I am a senior student in architecture department. I have always loved art and appreciated its ability to resonate with different parts of emotion since I am sensitive and artistic person who love and feel things. When I was young I was looking to Zaha Hadid buildings and ask myself how they can be designed and created. After that this course answered my question. Besides, This course has added another layer of thinking and curiosity to my curious self. It has provided to me that virtual creation is a transcendental type of art.

Project 1B: The Blank Facade Canvas

Project 2B: Parametric Facelft: Bloom Bank

In this project, we were required to develop an indepth inquiry into inspirations from nature as a driver for our designs. More specifically, we were required to observe the phenomenon of growth in nature as a source of inspiration. So, my choseen natural element was epidermal tussie system.

2

why trees: Nature’s shelter A place to meet and talk, to seek compromiseand settle disputes, to bridge diferences and foster unity. • Trees in neighborhoods lead to less crime. • Trees may make us more generous and trusting.

3

Characteristics of tree growth: Apical Growth A plant grows new tissue from an apical meristem. The apical meristem is a group of cells that retain the ability to continue divisions, forming new cells continuously as the plant grows. This PRIMARY growth is responsible for growth in height.

Root Cap

The root cap protects the growing tip in plants. It secretes mucilage to ease the movement of the root through soil, and may also be involved in communication with the soil microbiota. The purpose of the root cap is to enable downward growth of the root, with the root cap covering the sensitive tissue in the root.

Tissue Systems: Dermal Tissue System

Epidermis is a thin cell layer that covers and protects underlying cells. The outer periderm, or bark, is a thick layer of nonliving cork cells.

Vascular Tissue System: Composed of xylem and phloem. These tube-like structures transport water and nutrients throughout the plant.

Ground Tissue System Generates and stores plant nutrients.

Natural Inspirations: Epidermis The epidermis is a single layer of cells that covers the leaves, flowers, roots, and stems of plants. It forms a boundary between the plant and the external environment. The epidermis serves several functions and it modified according to habitat and need. Plants growing in deserts have a thick waxy chemical called cutin in epidermal cells to prevent loss to maximum extent. Functions It protects against water loss regulates gas exchange by leaving some spaces “pores-stomata” in it which are the spots where the epidremal cells form pits or openings and guarded guard cells secretes metabolic compounds especially in roots absorbs water and mineral nutrients.

6

Natural Inspirations: Cork: When the roots and stem grow older with time, their outermost tissue” the epidermis” is transformed into a specialized protective tissue called cork. Cork cells are dead and are withput intercellular spaces. The walls of cork cells are thichned by the deposition of suberin whic regulates gaseous exchange and water loss.

Functions

1- Cork protects the internal tissue and prevents water loss. 2- It provides insulation aganist heat and cold. 3- Lenticels present in the cork provide aeration to the inner tissues.

3) Modelling Iterations

FIRST TRIAL: it was taking the form of leaf that conveys the concept of adaptive.

THIRD TRIAL: SECOND TRIAL: I searched more and I found I tried here to apply the idea of the epidermal tissue systhe form being dynamic and acttems differ from one plant ing as a protectie shell to another and large ones have cracks and broken forms.

19 In this experimental project, the objective is to physically explore with different materials and fabrication techniques to devise a unit prototype for a building façade. You are encouraged to investigate several physical /digital techniques and material explorations that can support the process of experimentation with your ideas, including: ▪ Casting ▪ Fabric Forming

25 In this project, the objective is to explore and parametrically generate a prototype for a building façade skin that takes into consideration issues of environmental comfort, spatial relations and human aspects using a passive approach. You are required to develop a parametrically driven building skin for the building shown below (Blom Bank Egypt SAE - Main Branch, South Teseen Rd, New Cairo). The main façade of the building is in a South/Southwest orientation, and so you are required to devise an appropriate envelope that provides adequate shading and sun protection.
