Conclusion

Following this report, GħSL established a number of recommendations based on a comparison of different legal systems mainly, Germany, France, UK, Denmark, and United States of America, with the aim of presenting them to Government, in view of the upcoming Bill. On a concluding note this white paper is in our view a positive step forward in the regularisation of party financing in our country. Whilst on the one hand we believe that some proposals require further detail and explanation, at the same time we acknowledge that the proposals are in the form of a white paper and may differ from the final bill.

Perhaps a final word may be reserved until after the government carries out its consultation meetings which may result in a clearer picture as to the final outcome of the Bill. However, until then, and even within this context of a white paper, we ask the avid reader to keep in mind our suggestions made in the collective spirit of ensuring the future prosperity of our democratic system of governance.
