The southern route to Mount Damavand’s summit is a popular choice among climbers each year because of its convenient access. To enhance safety and comfort during the ascent, having a shelter is essential along this route. However, the existing stone shelter at the third camp of Damavand encounters various challenges. In response, the new shelter design prioritizes the use of sustainable and lightweight materials while incorporating clean energy sources. This approach aims to minimize reliance on fossil fuels and address the issues faced by the current shelter.
Damavand Mountain Refuge 01
Problem Statement
The current mountain shelter at Mount Damavand’s third camp is confronted with significant challenges. These include a shortage of vital amenities like heating, ventilation, and potable water. Security concerns have arisen due to the absence of lockers, leading to potential theft risks. Furthermore, the existing waste disposal system contributes to environmental damage. It is imperative to tackle these issues to improve climber safety, satisfaction, and promote environmental sustainability.

Incorporated sustainable design features, including photovoltaic (PV) panels, to harness solar energy for electricity generation. These panels convert sunlight into electrical power. Excess energy can be stored in batteries for reliable power during low-sunlight periods.

Considering the site’s conditions, various criteria such as ease of installation, cost, and independence from electricity need to be taken into account for water purification design. Therefore, it seems that a gravity-fed water purification system would be the best option.

On the first floor of this complex, an emergency room, storage, restroom, and utility room are located. Additionally, due to the fewer winter ascents, a lounge has been designed on this floor. This allows the closure of the other two floors during the cold seasons to prevent energy loss.”
The second floor houses the dining hall and kitchen. Additionally, considering the crowding on Mount Damavand during the spring and summer seasons, there is a need for staff. For this reason, a rest area has been designated for them. Furthermore, energy converter generators are also located on this floor.”
The sleeping quarters are strategically placed on the highest floor to not only benefit from the naturally higher temperatures, but also to minimize disturbance from daily movements in the dining hall on lower floors. Furthermore, an emergency room on this floor is designed for easy transportation of injured individuals, taking advantage of the proximity to the helipad.

As more people migrate from the suburbs and neighboring towns to Tehran, the city’s residents are grappling with increased air and noise pollution. The surge in population has intensified the need for housing to accommodate the newcomers. In this design, we strive to alleviate these challenges by providing a sense of personal space through the incorporation of courtyards at the height of each apartment unit. This innovative approach allows each residential unit to enjoy its own small garden, enhancing the overall living experience.
Atieh Residental Town 02
The concerning surge in population density in Tehran is giving rise to alarming levels of air and noise pollution. The simultaneous increase in construction activity and deforestation is compounding the issue, resulting in a notable decline in urban green spaces. This intricate situation not only severs the residents’ connection with nature but also poses a pressing problem that demands urgent attention for the advancement of sustainable urban development
Effect of Pollution
Air and noise pollution in mega cities adversely affect residents’ mental and physical health by causing respiratory problems, cardiovascular issues, chronic diseases, stress, sleep disturbances, anxiety, and depression. Mitigating these environmental challenges is essential for enhancing the overall wellbeing of city dwellers.
Design Intent
Incorporating double-height balconies for residents
Reconnecting lost human-nature interaction
Planting trees strategically to reduce carbon dioxide impact Creating horizontal connectivity through skywalks in the design
Establishing a neighborhood center to foster community bonds
Creating a green belt to act as a barrier against external air and noise pollution
Introducing playground Guiding automobiles away from the site perimeter for pedestrian safety
Site Analysis
This design has been developed based on site analysis, ensuring that residents of the new neighborhood are situated away from the pollution caused by automobiles. Additionally, two access points for both pedestrians and vehicles have been strategically positioned along the quietest streets, optimizing the tranquility of the environment. Moreover, the proximity to a bus station has been integrated into the design to enhance the convenience and comfort of the residents.
The lack of green spaces around the site under consideration implies a higher concentration of carbon dioxide in this area. Therefore, the creation of green spaces is an integral part of this design.
Dadman Boulevard and Farahzadi Boulevard, as two main arteries, are among the busiest and most congested routes. Cooperation Street, being a secondary road, is less busy and quieter compared to the main thoroughfares.
Green space dispersion
The presence of two high schools and a hospital on the western and southern fronts of the site contributes to increased traffic and pollution density in this area.

The main idea behind the design of this complex is inspired by the stepped houses of Masouleh, located in northern Iran. These houses are designed in a way that the ceiling of each house functions as the floor for the upper house, resulting in each residence having its own exclusive courtyard. In other words, each house also possesses a small share of the sky. This design aims to establish a direct interaction among the residents within a building block. To achieve this goal, inspiration is drawn from the sabats (enclosed alleys) in some Iranian cities, which traditionally served as the central gathering place for neighborhood residents, fostering more intimate connections and relationships among the inhabitants of the complex.
Considering Iranian culture and the significant importance of privacy, the entry to each unit is designed hierarchically, and with the help of corridors, it distinguishes between private and semi-private spaces.

Sabat, a traditional Persian architectural element, refers to enclosed alleys or covered passages that historically served as communal gathering spaces, fostering social interaction among neighborhood residents.

The Sadaf Park is located in the northeast of Tehran, at the end of a dead-end alley in the Mobarakeh Abad neighborhood. In this project, a proposed design is presented to replace the current cultural center building. The existing structure is a simple construction. The aim of this design is to create a building that reflects the identity and culture of Iranians, drawing inspiration from the past for the future.

In ancient Iran, the cypress tree symbolized beauty, height, strength, and stability, particularly in Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh. It became an emblem of power, authenticity, courage, and resistance in Iranian culture, expressed in various art forms.Similarly, the “Chelipa” or “Gerdune Mehr” in Islamic art and architecture takes two forms. One represents the tree of life, human figures, and cardinal directions, symbolizing blessings and fertility. The other, a broken cross, signifies the rotational movement of the universe. Despite its prohibition in clothing, the Chelipa is extensively used in Iranian monuments, showcasing its enduring cultural significance.
