Dear Friends, With more people becoming anxious of being disconnected from the material world, from phones and computers, from the routine of home and work, Ghost Ranch becomes even more relevant and inspiring. Arthur Pack surely had this in mind when he donated the Ranch to become a place of retreat, and when he wrote, decades ago, of people’s “addictions to the automobile, the moving picture, the radio, and competitive sports organized on a grand scale.” Imagine what he would think of the focus of today’s world and the need for a place like Ghost Ranch! God did not create us to be in a constant state of work and structure and “addiction” to doing a multitude of tasks at one time. We were created to be creative, to be attuned to the natural world, to be. Take time to be in safe, sacred space. We’ll see you soon!

Creating Spaciousness: A New Year’s Retreat Sunday, December 29, 2013 to Thursday, January 1, 2014

Creating a New Year Every Day G13S1251 Jim Reale Consider living each day as if it has the crispness and excitement of the new year. Through the experience of subtle contemplative techniques that have their origins in yoga, a different way of being is able to emerge within each of us. These practices are designed for all abilities with careful, skillful, individual attention to remove that sense of dullness, overburdened and constriction we so often feel. Experience meditation in its many forms through simple movement, mindful breathing techniques, chant, silence and ritual threaded together. Take home short simple practices you can apply all year.

Creating Balance: The Gift of Ayurveda— The Science of Self Healing

Creating Possibilities: Listening for New Directions in Life G13S1253

G13S1252

Nina Ross

Barbara J. Stavola To create spaciousness in our body and our life we need to first create balance. This will lead to the relief of congestion, resulting in greater clarity and awareness. This wellness of being creates a union of body, mind and spirit. This union can evolve to a deeper realization of self which brings with it a state of truth, freedom and love. This is the purpose and the gift of Ayurvedic Medicine. In this retreat learn the simple, affordable and effective tools of self care. These tools are applied easily in your daily life through the medicine of your food and your lifestyle. These can radically change your life in a very gentle way from the inside out.

Traditionally, New Year’s is a time when we make an accounting of where we’ve been and where we want to go in the New Year. Through active imagination, journaling and artwork we will have the opportunity to listen within to the still small voices for guidance and possible new directions for our lives. As a group, we will have the opportunity to share our dreams each time we come together. We will find support in the group for reaching our goals, expanding our visions and feeling gratefully alive with new ideas. No prior art experience is necessary, just an openness to explore and experiment.

Ministry Week Monday to Friday, March 24–28, 2014

The harvest is plenty, but laborers are few…

Matt 9:37

You may choose to extend your stay at Ghost Ranch through the weekend and experience some continued R&R or a New Beginnings offering (pages 24-25).

The Power of Narrative in Clergy Leadership

Sabbath Keeping—Feeding Our Holy Hunger

G14S341 $300+ 4 nights

G14S342 $300 + 4 nights

Steve Graham & Keith Herron

Anita Amstutz

It’s hard to imagine being a steward of the faith story unless one is willing to be a steward of one’s own story. That’s the assumption of this provocative seminar designed to encourage ministers to mine their own experience as a way of clarifying and strengthening their role as leaders.

Sabbath keeping is extinct among most 21st-Century Christians, lay leaders and pastors. In an age where we are bombarded with information, Sabbath can feed our impoverished souls and teach us to lead from our Source instead of culture.

The seminar is designed to assist congregational leaders in leading out of problem-saturated stories into narratives of hope.

2nd Annual Earth Day Celebration/Symposium Friday to Sunday, April 4-6, 2014

The energy and engagement of last year’s theme on Water was so well received that it was determined to take it another step. There is really no place on our globe that can ignore this significant issue. Please join us as we dive into the deeper waters of our relationship to Water.

Steve Harris, Moderator Steve Harris describes his career as that of a “River Worker,” centered on the Rio Grande as it courses through the desert Southwest. He is a river outfitter and guide, a river and flood rescue instructor to various local, state, and federal agencies and a river conservationist activist.

A Gathering of Waters: Human Relationship with Water

Basia Irland, Weekend Ritualist & Speaker Basia Irland is an author, poet, sculptor, installation artist and activist who creates international water projects, many of which are featured in her book, “Water Library”, published in 2007 by University of New Mexico Press. Through her work, Irland offers a creative understanding of water while examining how communities of people, plants and animals rely on this vital element. Her work and presence is respected around the globe.

All life on our small planet is based on water. Modern Americans have long been able to simply take water for granted, but the era of complacency may be ending. Now, in the midst of dry times, the water conversation has become louder, more persistent and cacophonous. The Water Symposium will bring practical and ethical perspectives to the water conversation. The weekend will also involve important ritual and ceremony to engage our mind, body and spirit with this issue.

ABOUT GHOST RANCH Ghost Ranch is a place of magnificent natural beauty, comprising deep, multicolored canyons and bluffs, plains, grasslands and streams. Its rocks span 130 million years of ancient geological history, representing lakes, floodplains, and deserts. Its fossils illuminate the beginning of the Age of Dinosaurs in North America and provide a new paradigm in the world of paleontology. Its archaeological record predates adobe walls and kivas; its hearths and other sites date to 8,000 years ago. Its history includes Native Americans and Spanish, Mexican, French and Anglo immigrations, a rough and tumble ranching era, a dude ranch, visitors and residents such as Ansel Adams, Arthur Pack, Georgia O’Keeffe and Robert Oppenheimer and today is an education and retreat center operated by the Presbyterian Church (USA) which is welcoming to all. The landscape attracted first ancient people, for its resources, and later colonizers from other lands, including artists, adventurers and entrepreneurs who were attracted by the stunning beauty. Like O’Keeffe, they were at first oblivious to the geological and paleontological contexts of the sediments, and to the Spirit of the Creator, and were simply amazed by the stunning beauty. So many who come into contact with Ghost Ranch come to appreciate its myriad dimensions of beauty and spirituality.
