The Museum of Anthropology at Ghost Ranch displays ancient artifacts from Paleo Indian cultures, 10,000 years ago, through ancestral Puebloan times to present time pottery and weavings from local Pueblos.

Archaeology Tour
A walking/driving tour to archaeological sites on our 21,000 acre property including two rock-shelter sites. Not recommended for ages 5 and under. Wednesday 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. │ $25 $12.50 Children (ages 6-12)

Ghost Ranch
I always wanted to be an archaeologist!
Among the many feisty women who have called Ghost Ranch their home is Florence Hawley Ellis, one of the first women to receive a PhD in anthropology (from the University of Chicago, in 1934). Dr. Ellis and students’ made a discovery of a site north of Ghost Ranch that rocked the world of anthropology in 1971.
Head for the field where excavation continues in two rock-shelter sites, one dating back 8,500 years. If you don’t like the summer heat, learn to catalog artifacts in the museum laboratory. Evenings are spent in archeological discussion with guest speakers.
Museum Shop re-opens in June
Exhibits of the work of local artists and folk artists, often for sale, along with jewelry, weavings and pottery, make this gift shop truly unique.

School Groups
Bring your school group for a museum tour and a handson museum and folk art activity. Choose from Museum Super Sleuth, Rock Art, Sand Painting, Straw Inlay or Tin Work. Add a visit to an archaeology site and lunch and you have a field trip they will never forget.
