Travel Information TRAVEL DAYS The first and last course dates are travel days and are considered arrival and departure days. • Check-in time is 3:00 p.m. on arrival day • Dinner is served from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 pm. If you don’t think you will arrive by 6:00 p.m., please consider eating dinner in Española or in Abiquiu • Check-out time is 10:00 a.m. on departure day

IF YOU FLY Allow at least two and a half hours driving time between Albuquerque and Ghost Ranch (not counting connections or waiting time). The nearest major airport is in Albuquerque, 65 miles south of Santa Fe. It is approximately an hour’s drive from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and an hour and a half between Santa Fe and Ghost Ranch.

Casa del Sol Located two miles from the main campus, Casa del Sol is a retreat house at Ghost Ranch dedicated to deeper spiritual contemplation. In 2014 many workshops which are conducive to small group work and contemplative space are being held at Casa del Sol. These workshops are designated with the sun symbol beside the title throughout the description pages.

Explore Service Opportunities

Service Corps participants give 25 hours of service per week to Ghost Ranch in exchange for lodging (dorm-style lodging or campground) and lunches. Help with construction, light maintenance, landscaping, other projects and service, including shuttle driving. You need to be receptive to working outdoors and able to do a moderate amount of physical activity (about 5 hours a day).

Registration is $95, which includes a Service Corps T-shirt. Meal Ticket price for breakfasts & dinners is $132 for the week.

The Family Center is a safe, comfortable place for children under the age of three to play and rest. Child care is not provided. Spontaneous co-ops of parent and grandparents are often organized.

While adults spend mornings and evenings immersed in a workshop of their choice, youth spend mornings and evenings experiencing all kinds of new things under the guidance of our trained staff. is retired from positions in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in the World Council of Churches. She was one of the originators of the Reimagining Conference held in Minneapolis in 1993, which stirred wide controversy about women’s theology.

Janet Parker is Pastor for Parish Life at Rock Spring Congregational United Church of Christ in Arlington, Va. Her work in Christian Ethics includes indigenous worldviews and struggles for sustainability, sovereignty and land. Currently she provides leadership for people of faith fighting mountaintop removal mining and climate change.

Lindsey Schneider

is a two spirit, mixed race descendant of the Pembina band of Turtle Mountain Chippewa (Anishinaabe) Indians and of Scandanavian settlers. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest instilled in her a fierce love of the land and respect for its original peoples. After receiving a B. A. in Religious Studies at Willamette University, she spent a year with the Lutheran Volunteer Corps working on environmental justice issues at the Pesticide Action Network. She is now a Ph. D. candidate in Ethnic Studies.

Nicole Salimbene

is a visual artist, working with unconventional materials to explore themes of sustainability, spirituality and archetypal poetics. She leads workshops in environmental and contemplative art making practices in affiliation with American University, Clark University, the Lama Foundation and a variety of community and professional organizations.

Beata Tsosie-Peña

Beata Tsosie-Peña, B.A. from Española, NM, is an active community organizer, advocate and educator, as well as a local dancer, poet and artist. Beata currently facilitates Environmental Health and Justice Focus groups for Tewa Women United and instructs poetry and writing workshops for teen groups in the Española and Santa Fe school districts.

Then we design alphabets with those new marks to write texts in various ways we can experiment with. Ghost Ranch offers rustic, lodging accommodations reflective of its origins as a working ranch. Our rooms are basic, no frills, but clean and comfortable all with magnificent views. All units provide breathtaking vistas of colorful sandstone cliffs, cottonwoods and distant mountains. Rooms do not have air conditioning but most have fans. Sleeping rooms are free from phones, televisions, internet and alarm clocks. Cell phone service is very limited and Wi-fi access is available only at certain spots around the Ranch. All lodging options are within walking distance of classroom buildings, the Dining Hall, Library and other structures via non-paved roads. Expect loose gravel and uneven terrain. Rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to those with accessibility requirements. In all lodging options, if you do not register with a companion, a roommate may be assigned to you during busy periods on the Ranch. We observe the honor system at Ghost Ranch—while our guest rooms with private and semi-private bathrooms are newly equipped with key-pad locks—rooms in our communal lodging facilities do not have locks.

Lodging Types Rooms with Private Bath

Comfortably appointed with neutral hues and a Southwest theme, each room has 2 beds (a queen + twin, or double + twin) and a dresser, nightstand, lamp, chair, closet and its own bathroom with shower. Some sleep up to 3 people. A limited number is available. On the mesa level, common rooms in each building have soft furniture, tables and chairs and a fireplace, perfect for group gathering. The newest units on the main level are spacious ADA accessible units close to the Dining Hall.

Rooms with Semi-Private Bath

These spacious, comfortably appointed rooms sit in the historical sections of Ghost Ranch, most are close to the Dining Hall and Library, with a few behind Corral Block. These older units each have a bedroom with 2 beds (a double + twin, or 2 twin beds), a dresser, a nightstand with a lamp, a chair and a closet. Every room shares a bath with an adjoining room; the bath is located between the two rooms. In a few select units, two rooms also share a sitting area. Some rooms sleeps up to 3 people. A limited number is available.

Private Bath Semi-Private Bath & Hermitages

Casa del Sol hosts Ghost Ranch courses that are spiritual in nature, and its rooms are set aside for participants in classes with a “CDS” in the course number. This charming, historic hacienda was built in the 1930’s. Anchored under the Puerto de Cielo rock formation two miles from the main Ranch campus, it has a spacious courtyard looking out on the desert and Pedernal, Ghost Ranch’s landmark mountain. It has a fireplace, kitchen and simple living space surrounded by inspiring landscapes. Six bedrooms share three bathrooms; a seventh room has its own private bath. Most rooms have doors that open onto the courtyard. There are three hermitages that can be used for short or extended stays. The Hermitages are self-contained with their own bathroom, small refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot. They are ideal for people seeking Sabbatical time/retreat time.

Lodging Types Rooms with Communal Bath

Dorm rooms with a communal bath down the hall or in another building reflect the history and dude ranch culture of Ghost Ranch past. Multiple bunk beds and very simple furnishings, keep them among Ghost Ranchâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s most affordable options. Mesa units, very rustic, have 1 bedroom with 2 beds (2 sets of bunks, or a twin + bunk bed) and a dresser, chair, shelf, mirror and reading lamp. Many rooms have a sink. Shared bath with a sink and a toilet are located in each building, down the breezeway. Showers are located in nearby buildings. These units sleep up to 3 people. Some buildings have a central lounge area with large screen windows that have stunning views. A few rooms on the main level sleep up to seven or eight people and are perfect for groups. Some rooms have a closet, dresser, chair and desk; others have closets and sofas. Large communal bathrooms and showers are located outside, a few steps down a breezeway or covered porch. Staff House has smaller rooms but has comfortable interior communal spaces, open fields for play and stargazing and is close to the Dining Hall. Corral Block has larger rooms, an open field for play and stargazing, and is close to the museums, Lower Pavilion meeting space, and the Welcome Center. It is a 5 to 10 minute walk to the Dining Hall.

Campground with Communal Bath

Open from mid-May until early October Ghost Ranchâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s most affordable lodging option, the camping sites are nestled in a canyon surrounded by red rocks. The Campground has facilities for tent camping, with or without electricity. Most sites have a table and a fire ring and only a very limited number have shade. Campfires are permitted only when weather conditions allow. The communal bath house is equipped with an ice machine, shared refrigerator, showers, sinks and coin-operated laundry. There is a 10-20 minute walk to the Dining Hall and meeting rooms. No pets are allowed in the campground (except for approved assistance animals). Full hookup sites include water and a dump station at the site, and 30- and/ or 50-amp electric hookups. There are only a small number of full hookup sites, available on a first come, first served basis.

Lodging & Meal Rates All visits include access to 3 hiking trails, two museums, 24-hour Library, Labyrinth, Karesansui Garden, and immersion in a landscape that has inspired thousands. Rates are based on double occupancy. The first and second person sharing a room will each be charged the fee listed for your lodging choice which includes meals for those two people. The third and subsequent person sharing that same room pay only for meals.* Adults (ages 13 and older, including non-course guests pay the meal fee listed for the workshop number of nights. Youth (ages 4 through 12) pay half the listed meals fee. No charge for children 3 and under. Single occupancy may be available for an additional $50 per night.

More About Your Stay Registration Fees & Payment

The appropriate fee is listed below the course name. The registration fee does not include lodging and meals. A 50% deposit of total fees (workshop, lodging and meals, shuttle) is due when you register. If you are unable to pay the deposit, please contact the Registrar’s Office to make arrangements. Payment may be made by check payable to Ghost Ranch or Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card.

Travel Dates & Check-in

The first and last dates listed are considered travel days unless otherwise noted. Check-in begins at 3:00 p.m. on the first date listed for your workshop with dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Ghost Ranch orientation unless otherwise noted. Check-out time is 10:00 a.m. on the last date listed for your workshop Most workshops have morning (9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.) and evening (7:00-8:30 p.m.) sessions, with afternoons free. Weekend/shorter workshop offerings may have a more intense schedule. Some workshops may offer optional afternoon studio time or an occasional field trip. These are noted in the workshop description.

Childcare

Other than summer weeks from June 16 to August 10, when youth can enroll in Youth Activities (for Children 3 years to 9th Grade), childcare is not provided and children must be under the care of an adult 18 or older. The Family Center provides space, toys, books and some art supplies for use by the caregiver.

Meals

We have a Farm to Table program using our own seasonal farm produce whenever possible. Menus highlight vegetarian entrees. A salad bar is featured at lunch and dinner each day. Meals are served cafeteria style, with choice of indoor or outdoor dining. Please contact our registrar’s office to discuss special needs.

More About Your Stay Cancellation Policy

Written notification must be received no later than 45 days prior to the start date of your course in order to receive a refund, minus a $100 processing charge. No refunds will be processed after that time. We reserve the right to announce a change in leadership or cancel any program 30 days prior to the first day of the course. In that unlikely event, you may transfer to another course without charge or we will refund the full course payment. Many participants have found it helpful to purchase travel insurance.

Transfer Policy

If you decide to transfer from one course to another, there will be a $25 fee per transfer, per person.

Transportation

Shuttle Service from Santa Fe Sage Inn to Ghost Ranch for Workshop Participantsâ&#x20AC;&#x201C;only for arrival and departure days of 5, 6 and 12 night workshops only. Reservations are required. See more details at GhostRanch.org.

Arriving Early or Staying After

If you are coming earlier or staying later than your course dates, you must make extended stay reservations by calling either 505.685.1001 or 505.685.1002. Stays before or after your class will be charged at the regular overnight lodging fee which is different from the nightly charge for lodging when you are enrolled in a workshop. When you are staying for multiple weeks of classes in a row, the bridge night (Sunday) is included at no additional charge.

Staying Off-site

Participants staying off-site pay workshop registration fee plus $50 per day for meals and use of our facilities.

Financial Assistance

Ghost Ranch is blessed with kind individuals who contribute funds so that financial assistance is available toward a portion of your workshop registration fee only. Scholarships are given (but not limited) to clergy, first-time visitors and our neighbors in Northern New Mexico. You may download a scholarship form from our website.

Helpful Info Health: Ghost Ranch is committed to accommodating all individuals who wish

to participate in its programs and be part of our community. Located in the high desert at an altitude of 6,500 feet, Ghost Ranch is very remote from medical facilities. The nearest hospital is 35 miles away and the Ranch provides only basic first aid services. The Abiquiu Clinic is 15 miles away but has limited hours and services. There is a 5-15 minute walk from most rooms to the Dining Hall, Library, Museums and meeting rooms. We strongly urge people with health challenges to consult with their physician before registering. Remember to bring a sufficient supply of medications for your time here.

Weather: The high desert altitude (6,500 feet) can produce extremely variable

weather. Summer temperatures range from 50° to 95°, with afternoon thunderstorms possible. Fall to winter temperatures can range from lows of zero or below at night to highs of 70° at midday; be prepared for rain and/or snow.

What to Bring: To make your stay more comfortable you may want to pack the following: comfortable, casual clothes you can layer • sturdy walking shoes, rain gear • hat • flashlight • sun block • toiletries • alarm clock • hair dryer • bathrobe • cash for purchases in shops on the Ranch. There is no on-site ATM machine.

Computers & Telecommunications: We offer free Wi-fi access in select locations on the Ranch. A terminal with internet access in the Trading Post Café is available 24-hours. Due to Ghost Ranch’s remote location, cell phones may not work. Some phones are available for guest use to make long-distance calls with your credit card. Some wireless hot spots (for cell phones, tablets and laptops) may be found at various places on the Ranch. Persons with Special Needs: Children and adults with disabilities are wel-
