CONNECTIONS November 2019

An award-winning newsletter for Orange Regional Medical Center employees, physicians and volunteers

From the President & CEO The holiday season is a time to give thanks and celebrate. At Orange Regional, we’ve been fortunate to celebrate many accomplishments and national recognitions this year. I am grateful for every member of our hospital family for the extraordinary things you do every day to provide our community with quality healthcare. As a result, I hear continuous praise through comments, emails, letters and social media from satisfied patients and their families. Our profession requires us to take care of others, but it’s important to also care for ourselves. Please embrace a healthy lifestyle by eating well, exercising frequently, getting enough

rest every day and spending time with friends and loved ones. The benefits of caring for yourself have a positive effect on people you come in contact with and ultimately help to provide an exceptional experience to patients and visitors. As a growing healthcare system, it’s important we stay focused and dedicated to improving the health of our community. Together we can continue to make a difference in the lives of our patients. Thank you for all you do! Sincerely,

Scott Batulis, President & CEO

Respiratory Therapist Dianne Pearce was awarded Orange Regional’s BEE Award for "Being Exceptional Everyday." Dianne is an employee who goes above and beyond to deliver exceptional care to our patients. Thank you, Diane, for all you do. Staff Memorial Reflection Garden A new reflection garden has taken shape at the northwest corner of the fitness trail. This garden will serve as a memorial for employees who have passed on. For several years, Director of Interior Design and Aesthetics, Nina Favata, has envisioned a place on campus where staff could go after losing a beloved colleague – a place where their name could be a permanent fixture of the environment, in a beautiful, natural setting. This year, there was an opportunity to make the vision become a reality. The completed garden will have two benches and a central reflection sculpture of polished granite, with an inspiring quote engraved on top. In time, the pathway will be lush with tall grasses, flowering bushes and mature trees. The area is intended to be peaceful and comforting, allowing for an atmosphere of privacy and quiet reflection. The garden will be unveiled in spring 2020. The pavers will be engraved with the names of staff members who pass beginning in 2020 and continue through years to come. For more information, contact Nina at nfavata@ghvhs.org.

2019 Making Strikes Against Breast Cancer Walk

At Orange Regional, employees, volunteers, patients and visitors demonstrate the capacity to serve and give back both inside and outside of the organization. Whether it’s by participating in a charity walk, volunteering within the community, sending assistance to those in need or by holding sales and contributing funds in support of a good cause, our Hospital family sure is generous. This year, Orange Regional registered 211 people for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, with 23 department teams participating. We’ve currently raised $43,331 including our sponsorship, Real Men Wear Pink and team contribution. Fundraising ends on December 31, 2019.

Orange Regional is seeking Magnet re-designation, and the Healthy Heart Program participates with numerous Worksite Wellness Programs, Community Health Centers and Employee Health Programs throughout Orange and Sullivan County.
