To us there seems to be a strong theme of exploration in 2023. With his spectacular and globally reaching Coronation, King Charles has finally found himself in the top job and treading a nervous path into uncharted territory.

Space and deep-sea exploration continue at a pace with advanced commitments for sending humans to Mars in 2033 (believe it or not), which comes with slightly higher risk than donning a 2.25kg crown.

Then there is AI, possibly the buzz word of the year and it feels like ChatGPT is merely an amuse bouche for what is to come. While it might be a little frightening (consider the Head of AI at Google leaving his post for this very reason), it is this sort of invention that turns our world view on its head. It is how humankind propels itself forward.

How does this all relate to GI, we hear you cry? Good question. Well, take our own website - we recently upgraded the search function, which is powered by AI. Hopefully this will make your lives a tiny bit easier, saving just a millisecond here and there but you are busy people and time is money.

Furthermore, while we continue to travel to find inspiration to develop our own products, sifting through a seemingly endless supply of dubious nature and questionable appeal (but enjoying doing so, don’t get us wrong), sometimes you must step outside of your comfort zone and crash through known frontiers to cast your net further afield.

Never before have we ventured into Africa but this Autumn, we are beyond excited to introduce our new Ghanian supplier, whose village of weavers produces the most wonderfully made and colourful wickerware with oodles of heritage and love that shines through in every piece.

With any type of exploration comes risk but if you don’t try, you’ll never know, and we’ve fallen in love with the African charm and hope you will too.

Christmas

One thing that can be said about Christmas is that it’s colourful and sparkly – lots of reds and golds and sleigh-loads of glitter. But with colour comes joy and we bring this to you in spades, be it in gorgeous glass, funky fabric, exquisite enamelware, or humble paper: form and colour meet in perfect festive harmony.

Traditionalists need not worry as there are still reds, greens and golds aplenty and, for those of you with more delicate palates, rose, wine and mint await you on the following pages. With pears, honeycomb and berries also on the menu, we think you’d better prepare your tastebuds for a style feast.
