Recovery and redevelopment of the ex-industrial area A.L. Colombo From industrial production to production of ideas year place collaboration
2009/2010 Milano, Lambrate Giacomo Moretti, Michele Pelliconi,Matteo Viciani
Rewriting the interrupted history of the Lambrate area in Milan, whose identity is based on labour and heavy industries; today there is the need to reinterpret all the traces that factories have left on the landscape. The area has the opportunity of hosting and being faced with the regenerating forces of the new creative class. This leads to the creation of the “Officine delle Arti, a new residential area developed around the warehouse of the former A.L. Colombo factory. The latter will be completely restored and will host a theatre and an art school, aiming to integrate the nearby design school. The renovated area will become a new centre for the Lambrate area, which has struggled to look beyond the rust of its industrial past
Recovery and redevelopment of the ex-industrial area A.L. Colombo From industrial production to production of ideas Variations on the theme of the townhouse
University campus in Rovigo year place collaboration
2010/2011 Rovigo Matteo Viciani
A university campus, in the suburbs of Rovigo aims to integrate the university structures in town; a new area, car-free and surrounded by the flat north-eastern landscape. The campus hosts the student halls, organized in five courtyards, each of which is devoted to a different academic area in order to create identity (music, sports, arts, entertainment and cinema). The architecture of these spaces facilitates social integration and community life among students. The campus is further enriched by a library, a canteen, a theatre and sports facilities
A media centre in Valencia year place collaboration
2010/2011 Valencia Thibault Chevalier, GuenolĂŠ Vriat
The intervention is part of the idea of the city of Valencia regaining the sea and its surrounding as a space for the city. This involves the decommissioning and redevelopment of the buildings in the port area. The media centre is created on the banks of the ancient river Turia, which today is a linear park running from the city centre to the sea. A very controversial site delimited by highways surrounding the entire area. This leads to the choice of designing a monolithic building that creates an opposition between its borders and the boundaries imposed by the site. The media center is closed towards the outside, but the interior opens to a courtyard, source of light and area of mediation amidst the peace of the river and the chaos of the city
Rethinking Mallorca’s seafront International competition for stdents year place collaboration
2011/2012 Mallorca Matteo Viciani
Rethinking the relationship between built and nature in a seaside resort where the landscape has been neglected and offended by the construction of massive touristic facilities. Stepping back and working on the thin sand strip between the hotels and the beach, giving it back to nature and to the Mediterranean scrub. The current viability is preserved in plan but is transformed into a pedestrian area. The roundabouts become viewpoints towards the surrounding maritime landscape, while restaurants and bars are transferred inwards, in the unused spaces around the hotels. Only this way one can regain the surprise in approaching the sea. Feeling and hearing without being able to see. Sounds and scents. And then, finally, the sea
Designing waste International workshop FAF Ferrara & Polis Tirana year place collaboration
2012/2013 Bologna Sara Dughetti, Francesco Tonnarelli
A residential area lacking facilities and spaces for social life; a completely forgotten place. The remains of an infrastructure become the place needed to host the public facilities necessary to the dwellers of Borgo Panigale. A red line sprawls through the area and becomes the area in which playgrounds, structures and spaces for the new cultural centre are allocated. Restarting from what already exists can, through small interventions, give meaning to a living space that up to now has not been considered as such
Designing with wood 2nd prize in the competition Costruire con i sistemi in legno held by University of Ferrara and AHEC American Hardwood Export Council year place
2008/2009 Puglia
Executive design of a railway station, intermodal hub between train and bicycles. The tecnologically equipped ceiling guarantees lighting, ventilation and energetic autonomy, thanks to the installation of photovoltaic panels and of a micro wind turbine. The building is designed entirely using wood technologies
Designing with steel year place collaboration
2011/2012 Monzuno Matteo Viciani
Executive design of a multifunctional centre in the town of Monzuno. The medium sized building is equipped in order to accommodate with flexibility several functions according to the town needs. The building is designed entirely using steel technologies.
Design of a garden in a private house in Palermo year place collaboration
2011/2012 Addaura, Palerermo Clelia ZappalĂ
This is the only project that was not developped as part of a university course. Here I finally understood what is like working for an actual client. A series of platforms of wooden panels connect the terrace to the garden just below, creating a relaxing space shaded by the pergola of vines. The boundary wall is replaced by a gate which opens the view towards the pinetree forest

Genova, 3 Novembre 2010 Oggetto: stage Giacomo Quercia Il sottoscritto arch. 5+1AA srl Alfonso Femia Gianluca Peluffo

To whom it may concern, This is to certify that Giacomo Quercia, born on 25 of February 1989, has been employed as an intern at 5+1AA, working for 176 hours in total. The aim of the internship was to apply the knowledge and skills aquired during his university studies and to strenghten his abilities with new and more specific skills, like the usage of softwares for architectural design (Vectorworks). The internship consisted in a progressive introduction to planning and work method and also to the development of graphical design and models. Mr Quercia has been working with project groups in which he could actively contribute to the development of projects. In the meantime, he was given the opportunity to get confident with the studio organization both on the informal (structure, roles etc.) and on the formal side. Indeed, he has been given the Manuale Operativo, the Manuale della QualitĂ , which are reference points for the external relations of the studio, and the Manuale Procedure Disegni to learn the graphical elaboration of projects. The intern could work with several architects in our group and on the projects they were responsable for, demonstrating high level of professionalism, flexibility and independence. At the same time, he proved capable of team-working with strong dedication and reliability; he also showed strong commitment to his work and openness to new and unexpected situations.
