ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO
COVER LETTER | WHO I AM
I’m writing to express my interest in working and doing development as architect in your group. I’m graduated in “Architecture – Building engineering” at Perugia University (Italy). During last 2 and half years I have worked for the architecture group Heliopolis 21 between Berlin and Pisa. My job experiences concern different field of action as business development, design coordinator, 3D modelling, sustainable design and interior design. I have strong knowledge about details design, document compilation and price computation. Today I am looking for a new experiences, and I have no problem to move in an other country. My experience have helped me to develop a vision of architecture as a “step by step” process, in which an initial idea becomes “architecture” day by day through an open, continuous dialogue between consultants and suppliers going through the test of the model in which the idea takes the shape of reality. Over the last years I have been following your design work and I hope to have the opportunity to improve my experience in your group. I hope that this document can illustrate my interests and skills thoroughly. I look forward to hearing from you. Best Regards, Giacomo Mari 2

The project concerns the design of the three floor of the new hospital area with first medical aid, sick rooms, operating rooms, intensive care, ambulances space, clinics, common spaces, workplace canteen, auditorium, storage and archive. Since that the spaces distribution was already planned, the main point was to draw a new look at the hospital built in the 70th years. We used the climatic analysis softwares to design a new facade creating a filter space between the external and the internal rooms. This space contributes keeping the temperature into the confort range with a gain in terms of cost of the heating and expecially for the air conditioning during the summer time. We used the expanded metal panels for the double skin in collaboration with ALUCOBOND, a leader company in the production of the aluminium panels for the external surfaces.

03 RENOVATION AND EXTENTION OF THE HOSTPITAL DISTRICT IN FOLLONICA RESTRICTED COMPETITION, FINAL DESIGN. THE DEAL CONCERNS THE NEW DISTRIBUTION OF THE INTERNAL SPACES OF THE NEW AREA AND THE DESIGN OF THE FACADES. WE AIM TO GIVE A STRONG IDENTITY AT THE BUILDING, LOOKING AT THE ENERGY SUSTAINABILITY, LESS OPERENTING COST AND HIGH EFFICENCY OBTAINED BY THE USING OF DOUBLE SKIN TO SHIELD THE DIRECT SOLAR RADIATION AND FOSTER THE NATURAL VENTILATION.

With the use of Ecotect and Vasari we analysed the climatic conditions to improve the building energetical efficency. The double skin shields the direct solar radiation on the building facade reducing the energy need for the air conditioning during the summer. The shape of the skin was designed accourding to the wind directions: Summer NW-SE: canalises the wind for natural ventilation; Winter SE-NW: blocks the cold winds and their effect on the facades.

04 CULTURE AND ART CENTER IN DALIAN WEST FOREST BADI CUP, INTERNATIONAL GREEN BUILDING DESIGN COMPETITION. THE PROPOSAL FOR A NEW MULTIFUNCTIONAL BUILDING INTO A SPECIAL GREEN AREA COMES FROM THE LOCAL NATURAL SHAPE. THE SPACES HAS BEEN SHAPED BY THE CONTOUR LINES. THE NEW BUILDING GROWS FROM THE GROUND, BECOMING A LANDMARK OF THE PARK WITH A GREAT VIEW FROM THE NEAR HIGH SPEED ROAD.
The area, located in the heart of chinese region of Dalian, is a beautiful green oasi at the foot of the mountains, where is already planned the new expansion of the big urban area of Dalian. The climate conditions are tipical from the monzone areas: humid summer and cold, dry and windy winter.
The building shape comes from this features, we want to block the cold winds through a design that canalizes the winds direction over the building, creating a protected central square between the indoor spaces. The roof windows help the natural ventilation keeping the spaces in the confortable climate range.

06 RESTYLING OF CANTINA NEGRAR OPEN COMPETITION. THE PROPOSAL REDEFINES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE WINERY AND THE FIELDS AROUND, FOCUSING ON TWO MAIN ASPECTS. THE FIRST ELEMENT IS THE SHAPE, WITH A LONGITUDINAL SKIN THAT COVERS THE OLD BUILDING AND THE NEW PART. THIS DESIGN DERIVES FROM THE SCHEME OF THE WINE TREES, AIMING AT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN BUILT AND UNBUILT. THE SECOND ELEMENT IS STRICTLY CONNECTED WITH THE FIRST AND AIMS TO THE EMISSION REDUCING: THE SHAPE HELPS THE NATURAL VENTILATION OF THE BUILDING, AND THE ENERGETIC STRATEGIES GUARANTEE A HIGH LEVEL OF WELLNESS IN THE INDOOR CLIMATE.
Keeping the existed building we limited the CO2 emission that come from the demolition and the use of a double skin aims to reduce the cost from the building use through the natural
ventilation during the summer and the heat reuse in the winter. The shape looks at the main feature of the local landscape: the vineyard lines and its leaves. PROMOTER: CANTINA VALPOLICELLA NEGRAR LACATION: VERONA, ITALY SIZE: 11.000 sqm

INTERIOR DESIGN | FORTE VILLAGE, SARDINIA, ITALY. DESIGN PROPOSAL FOR TWO SUITES | HELIOPOLIS 21 A.A. - OCTOBER 2014 The project draws upon at the artistic textile of the Sardinian traditional. The typical motifs and symbols are thought with a contemporary language using a typical materials: wood for the details and white marble of Orosei for coatings. The different finishes of marble define and differentiate the spaces (the marble is hammered, sanded and polished). The geometries of the tradition become abstract designs that enrich the bed and the couch with textile inserts, and the headboard of the bed and the bathroom walls with marble details. The italian furnishings of the best brand complete the entire design.
