PANJUNAN CIREBON TOURIST AREA

MASTERPLAN

AN URBAN ACUPUNCTURE IN THE AREA TO REVITALIZE CULTURE, SOCIAL, AND ECONOMIC ASPECTS.

LEGENDA KEYPLAN

PANJUNAN AREA IS A REGION IN CIREBON THAT WAS INITIALLY FORMED BY THE ARAB ETHNIC GROUP THAT SETTLED IN CIREBON. AS A RESULT, THERE ARE ARAB AND MUSLIM CULTURAL HERITAGES EMBEDDED IN THE AREA. THIS CAN BE OBSERVED THROUGH ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES THAT WERE ONCE CLOSELY ASSOCIATED WITH POTTERY BUSINESSES, AS WELL AS HISTORICAL REMAINS LIKE THE RED PANJUNAN MOSQUE AND THE TOMB OF PRINCE PEKARUNGAN.

THIS PLAN AIMS TO PRESERVE THIS CULTURAL HERITAGE BY REVITALIZING THE AREA SOCIO-ECONOMICALLY, THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT AND REVITALIZATION OF COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES IN THE REGION WITH A FOCUS ON SUPPORTING PEDESTRIAN ACTIVITIES.

THE REVITALIZATION OF THIS AREA IS APPROACHED USING AN URBAN ACUPUNCTURE APPROACH, INCORPORATING THREE CONCEPTS IN THE STREET SPACE: PEDESTRIAN-ORIENTED, SHELTERING, AND ACTIVE FRONTAGE.

RESEARCH + SIMULATION

LEGIBILITY OF CSW INTERSECTION SPATIAL

ARANGEMENT

THE INFLUENCE OF VISIBILITY SPECTRUM DUE TO URBAN INFILL-SUPERIMPOSED BUILDINGS ABOVE THE INTERSECTION SPACE.

PHOTO REFERENCE: @RAKANAREN

“SIMPANG CSW” IS AN INTERSECTION CONNECTING THE ROADS OF PANGLIMA POLIM, SISINGAMANGARAJA, TRINOJOYO, AND KYAI MAJA.

A TYPICAL INTERSECTION IS A ROAD SPACE FOR CHANGING ORIENTATION, AND THE BUILDINGS SURROUNDING THE INTERSECTION SERVE AS LANDMARKS AND POINTS OF REFERENCE FOR DIRECTIONS.

THE TRANSFORMED INTERSECTION INTO AN INTERCHANGE PROVIDES A NEW PHYSICAL-SPATIAL ARRANGEMENT, EVIDENT FROM NEW STREET BOUNDARIES AND VISUAL LIMITS.

THIS RESEARCH WAS CONDUCTED TO EXAMINE THE CLARITY (KEVIN LYNCH) OF THE INTERSECTION’S SPATIAL ARRANGEMENT THROUGH SPACE SYNTAX-BASED CITY SPACE VISIBILITY SIMULATION.

THE RESULT OF THE VISIBILITY GRAPH ANALYSIS SIMULATION PRODUCES QUANTITATIVE CALCULATIONS BASED ON COLOR, INDICATING THE NARROWING OF THE VISUAL SPECTRUM FOR INTERSECTION USERS AT EACH LEVEL.

IN THE FIELD, THIS SIMULATION PROVES THE ROLE OF CSW INTERCHANGE IN RELATION TO THE LEGIBILITY OF THE INTERSECTION’S SPATIAL ARRANGEMENT.

THE SIMULATION RESULTS SHOW THAT THE READABILITY OF THE ELEMENTS FORMING THE INTERSECTION AT LEVEL 1 IS LACKING, RESULTING IN A LESS UNDERSTANDABLE SPATIAL ARRANGEMENT OF THE INTERSECTION.

THE RESULTS OF THE STEPDEPTH SIMULATION INDICATES A NARROWING OF THE VISUAL SPECTRUM WHEN THE SIMULATION IS CONDUCTED AT SPECIFIC POINTS WITHIN THE INTERSECTION SPACE.

THIS SIMULATION IS PERFORMED AT THE CENTRAL POINT OF THE INTERSECTION, WHICH IS THE MAIN ORIENTATION TRANSITION AREA.

AS A RESULT OF THE NARROWING VISUAL SPECTRUM, THE BUILDINGS THAT SERVE AS BOUNDARIES WITHIN THE INTERSECTION ARE NO LONGER VISIBLE.

THIS LACK OF VISIBILITY LEADS TO DISORIENTATION FOR INTERSECTION USERS.

THE DISORIENTATION IS CAUSED BY A VISUAL DISCONNECTION BETWEEN LEVEL 1 AND THE UPPER LEVELS, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE LANDMARKS TO DETERMINE DIRECTION.

THE FIRST SOLUTION COULD INVOLVE INTERVENTIONS IN THE STREET SPACE AT LEVEL 1, WHERE THE ROADS ARE GIVEN DIFFERENT COLORS CORRESPONDING TO THEIR NAMES TO INDICATE ORIENTATION AND DIRECTION. THIS CAN MAKE IT EASIER FOR DRIVERS TO NAVIGATE TOWARD THEIR DESIRED ROAD BASED ON THE COLOR-CODED STREETS. POSSIBLE

THE SECOND SOLUTION COULD INVOLVE CREATING A GATE AREA AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE STREET SPACE AT THE INTERSECTION. THIS WILL CLEARLY DEFINE THE ROAD THAT IS BEING ENTERED AND EMPHASIZE THE NEW FUNCTION OF THE ROAD AS AN ENTRANCE GATE TO THE AREA, WITH THE PRESENCE OF TRANSIT BUILDINGS.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION 1.

THE THIRD SOLUTION COULD INVOLVE DECORATIVE STREET LAMPS. THESE STREET LAMPS ARE DESIGNED AS PEDESTRIAN STREET LIGHTS WITH DECORATIVE ORNAMENTS OR COLORS THAT REPRESENT SPECIFIC ROAD SEGMENTS. ROAD USERS CAN NAVIGATE TO THEIR DESIRED ROAD BY READING THE COLORS OF THESE DECORATIVE STREET LAMPS, WHICH SERVE AS MARKERS.

EAT ME TRAILS

(2nd PLACE HACKATHON 2023 COMPETITION)

AN URBAN PROGRAM ENVISIONED FOR LOCAL STREET FOOD BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT AS A COUNTER ACTION FOR CULTURAL GENTRIFICATION.

‘EAT ME TRAILS’ IS AN URBAN PROGRAM VISIONED FOR ESTABLISHING FUN AND ATTRACTIVE CULINARY FOOD TRAILS WHERE THE DESIGNATED PATH WILL BE COLORFULLY REDESIGNED AS THE WAYPOINT GUIDANCES FOR WHERE TO FIND THE TRADITIONAL FOOD. AR TECHNOLOGY, GAMIFICATION, COMMUNITY BUILDING INTEGRATED THROUGH MOBILE APPLICATION HELP US ERS ENGAGE WITH THE EAT ME TRAILS.

THE CONCEPT OF ‘EAT ME TRAILS’ IS EXPRESSED WITH THE HOPE OF INTRODUCING WHILST ALSO PRESERVING LOCAL CULTURE, AS WELL AS WITH THE ASPIRATION TO IMPROVE THE URBAN SPACE TO BE COME MORE INTERACTIVE AND RESILIENT AGAINST GENTRIFICATION.

THIS CONCEPT COMBINES THE UTILIZATION OF AUG MENTED REALITY TECHNOLOGY WITH AN URBAN ACUPUNCTURE APPROACH IN THE CITY AREA.

FOR THE SAMPLE OF CONCEPT IMPLEMENTATION, TWO AREAS ARE CHOSEN, ONE IN INDONESIA, KAMPUNG SATE NOLOGATEN, AND ONE IN THAILAND, SAMYAN BANDTHADTHONG. BOTH WERE CHOSEN BECAUSE THEY HAVE CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE TRANSLATED THROUGH THEIR TRADITIONAL FOODS.

THESE TWO AREAS ALSO HAVE DIFFERENT URBAN CHARCTERISTICS. THEREFORE, IN ORDER TO CREATE AN INTERACTIVE URBAN SPACE, BOTH WERE SELECTED TO IMPLEMENT URBAN ACU PUNCTURE IN TWO DISTINCT URBAN AREAS.
