CONCEPT NOTE OF

BOSTON PARTNERS PLC/KURIFTU RESORT AND SPA “….WHERE TRUE BEAUTY HAS NO MEASURE!”

I am an AFRICAN I owe my being to the hills and the valleys, the mountains and the glades, the rivers, the deserts, the trees, the owers, the seas and the ever-changing seasons that dene the face of our native land. Africa reafrms that she is continuing her rise from the ashes.whatever the setbacks of the moment, nothing can stop us now! Whatever the difculties, Africa shall be at peace! However improbable it may sound to the skeptics, Africa will prosper! Whoever we may be, whatever our immediate interest, however much we carry baggage from our past, however much we have been caught by the fashion of cynicism and loss of faith in the capacity of the people, let us err today and say - nothing can stop us now!

His Excellency

Mr. Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki

Our capital is the home for African Union (AU) and United Nations Economic With the rapidly growing Hospitality & Tourism industry, Africa is fast becoming the choice of destination for many travellers around the world.

Although the demand is increasing, building lasting and sustainable tourism in the continent will require a lot of effort and commitment from everyone concerned. The main task of sof Africa where you see diversity as keynote of beauty. In Addis everything is changing by the very minute. oston Partners is a Resort and Spa developer and operator headquartered on the fourth oor at Boston Partners Building located on the prestigious Africa Road in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Boston Partners PLC is a privately held company established in 2002 by its founder and CEO Mr. Tadiwos Getachew. Having built careers in hospitality and tourism industries for over 20 years in the USA and having owned businesses in the beauty industry, Mr. Tadiwos returned home in 2002 to bring his experience and expertise in the industry to his birth home, Ethiopia. He decided to open “Boston Day Spa” so named as a tribute to the city of Boston, which served him as a steppingstone to his achievements. Having seen the gap in resort and spa industry in his home country, he was inspired to venture into the promising but not yet tapped into resort and spa market of Ethiopia. Under the umbrella of Boston Partners PLC already established in 2002, he opened Kuriftu Resort and Spa Debre Zeit, a pioneer resort facility in Ethiopia. Various business establishments including Kuriftu Resort and Spa Lake Tana in Bahir Dar, Kuriftu Diplomat Restaurant, Kuriftu Lounge and Ethiopian-Holidays (a Tour and Travel Destination Management Company) were added in subsequent years. Many other projects including Kuriftu Resort and Spa Lake Hora, Kuriftu Resort and spa Burayu, Kuriftu Resort & Spa Gherealta are still under construction. In addition to building and managing unparalleled quality resorts and spas that provide rst class hospitality services, Boston Partners endeavors to become a leading Resort and Spa operator in the continent, hence expanding its ventures outside Ethiopia and the soon to be started Kuriftu Resort and Spa Djibouti.

uriftu is known for new ideas and concepts such as our upcoming property Kuriftu Africa Village Burayu. This is our gift to the Africa Union in commemoration of the patriots, nationalists & founding fathers who gave their blood, esh & soul to build the beautiful African continent we call our own today. The idea involves designing and completely furnishing the interior of the 54 remarkable presidential suites of the resort we built to represent each African country with the magnicent furniture, arts & artifacts typical of each country and to name each suite after the founding father or national icon of that particular African nation. For instance Ethiopian, Kenyan & South African suites may be furnished as illustrated below or better. Moreover at the gate of every room, their respective ag will be so that guests feel they are actually in their homeland. Kuriftu carries the motto “putting Ethiopia back on the map” and has been an important and true part of Ethiopian hospitality and tourism development. Now, its in the process of committing its assets to go a little further by giving Mama Africa a shining parcel.

“WHAT” ASPECT

“WHEN” ASPECT

As attempted to show above the signicance of this project is to give the African Diplomatic Capital Addis Ababa one more feature to welcome and receive her dignitaries in a more intimate & “home-away-from-home” environment. Moreover Kuriftu's Little Africa will enable us to showcase the beauty of entire Africa in one place thereby affording us enormous opportunity to promote African tourism through this unique platform that shows the glimpse of African beauty.

The resort is expected to be inaugurated in a spectacular red carpet ceremony in 2015 in the presence of The African Union Chairperson, higher ofcials of the African Union, Ethiopian Prime Minister, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) Oromia region president Ambassadors & members of the diplomatic community in Ethiopia & Africa. Since this necessitates the groundwork to start immediately, each nation will have approximately three months to make ready and showcase their suites.

LOGISTICAL” HOW” ASPECT

“WHERE” ASPECT

The Embassies of each nation will be contacted and briefed about the overall concept and its signicance in promoting their country and continent besides putting their nger print in this Neo-Pan Africanism era where Africa, with its unbelievably radical renaissance in every aspect, is no more connoted as “the dark continent” Each Embassy will be provided with the lay out of the suites, the detail of the furniture required including size and basic requirements. The creativity on the design cultural look of the suite will be entirely left to the country to do its BEST. In addition to the furniture & xtures, the overall interior design of each suite will be done by their own renowned professionals in a manner that will reect their culture and identity. The respective Embassies here in Addis Ababa are expected to handle the transportation and logistics all materials required. The resort lies on 50,000 square meters land located in Burayu, Ormiya Special Zone, on the western outskirt of Addis Ababa adjacent to Gefersa nano Kebele. Owing to its hill top location, the resort will give a 360° view of the Addis Ababa's entire expanse and beyond. In the northeastern, the resort is neighbored by an area covered by forest reserved as city's green park that exudes additional fresh aromatic breeze

The council of course will also incorporate different books in various category from around the globe which makes it truly international.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBLITY As part and parcel of Africa's renaissance and development, Kuriftu believes that it is neither only government's nor African Union's sole responsibility to build this continent, individuals and companies should also play the lion's share. One of the agendas of Kuriftu's Africa Village is to be the center of incubation for future leaders and ideas. In this regard we will select two young African every month from the monthly performing countries as an internship to educate

& instill them about the mission, vision and long term goal of this project so that they will be able to do the same in their respective country. By doing this we will make clear that Kuriftu Africa's village at Burayu is just the start, but should be viral and contagious all over Africa. Moreover certain percentage of the income will be devoted to actual trainings and development by inviting trainers from all over the world on leadership.

TO WRAP UP The Renaissance of Africa is Africans' own responsibility that we must accomplish with great determination and creativity by working together in spirit of collaboration, love & affection to our continent. We can do a lot better than what has been done in the world by putting our heads, hearts and resources together as we traditionally say in Ethiopia “dir biyabir anbessa yaser”. And certainly, we can liberate Ethiopia & Africa from the condition and despair of being described as “the poverty-stricken and disease-ridden continent”. The call for Africa's renaissance is not a call for a battle anymore; it is a call to work in collaboration and unity; and the hospitality industry can be one of the stepping-stones for this long journey. The alliance we propose between Boston Partners, African embassies & the Africa Union should not be measured merely in terms of investment for return, rather as a new way of thinking to promote Africa. We don't want this magnicent resort to be a place for sleeping, dinning and entertaining oneself Per Se; it must be another statue of Giza, Axum, Masai Mara, Robben Island…etc where people from all over the world and all walks of life come and visit.

Our struggle is not a marathon but more akin to a relay race where those who ran earlier pass on the baton to those who came later –
