Growing & Grooming Your Beard The best thing to do when growing your beard is to put away the razor and put your patience to the test.A beard is not actually measured in length, but in months ,so one of the most impressive traits you'll gain as a beardsman is patience.

Beard Growth Milestones: â—? a 1 month beard â—? 3 month beard â—? a yeard (year long beard) With each length you'll be presented with slightly different chalenges. We define them in 5 different beard stages.

3

Stage 1 : The Sexy Stubble

This is the “sexy” look or the 5 o’clock shadow stage. The rugged, stubble that most men can perfect easily. This is also the stage that is easiest to go back to the clean shaven look because you have not fully committed to growing an actual full-fledged beard. 4

Stage 2 :Â The Broke Musician

This is the stage where the itch sets in. Many men find this stage to be unbearable and shave off the beard before giving it a chance. The irritating itch does not last long. The beard itself is thicker than stubble but not quite a full beard. It looks like you just have not bothered to shave or put your best foot forward; someone who doesn’t care overly much about their appearance. 5

Stage 3 : The Homeless Man

During this phase, daily grooming of not just your hair but your beard as well is essential. Without proper grooming and attention to details, like food stuck in the beard, you will easily be mistaken for a homeless man. The itchiness has abated, but beware of the unruly, ungroomed beard, it can turn you into a societal outcast. 6

Stage 4 : The Trendy Beard

Many men strive for this stage of growing a beard. It is the stage where the beard is well maintained and properly groomed, the itchiness is completely gone and there is a sense of pride about the beard. During this stage, you begin to consider the type of beard you want to maintain. You have more confidence in your beard and in yourself.

7

Stage 5 : Â The Ultimate Beard

This is the beard growth stage where you feel superior because of how amazing your beard looks. Some consider the long, trailing beard to be the ultimate beard. Others view the full but trimmed close to the face to be the ultimate beard.Really, there is not one ultimate beard. It is the feeling that you get when you have grown your beard and feel like you have achieved the highest level of confidence that you can. 8

Essential Oils for Beards: Many men participate in No Shave November only to decide that when December 1st rolls around they will hold on to that beard they have worked so hard to grow. But now what? After 30 days the patchiness is (hopefully) nicely filled in but now that beard is starting to get a bit long and out of control. Beard oil can help transform a beard from unruly to ruggedly handsome!

Jojoba Oil!

Find the shape that suits You

Distinct face shapes call for different beard styles. These rules will help you achieve what we like to call “optimal beard.

15

When it comes to facial hair styles, here is the guiding principle to keep in mind: Your beard and your jaw should work in tandem to achieve a nicely graduated, oval shape. If you have a square or round jaw, you’ll want to grow your beard fuller on the bottom to elongate your face. If you have an oblong or rectangular face, you’ll want more hair on the sides while avoiding more length beneath the chin.

4 Easy Styles To Suit Your Beard COLOUR Clashing colours are always a no-go, but do you ever think about the colour of your beard against the colours of your outfit? Follow these pointers and you’ll be dressed to the nines with your beard in mind, in no time. 17

Brown Beard You brunettes are in luck; a brown or black beard, much like brown or black clothing, can match with virtually anything. There’s very little that’ll clash with your face-fur – the worst you can expect is that your outfit won’t be quite as kickass as it could be. So how do you avoid sub-optimal kick-assery? Simple – use the same principle you would when deciding which jacket to wear with what tee: simplicity.

18

Blonde Beard Ok, so the darker dudes are looking dapper in whites and lighter colours – so it follows that the paler fellas will want darker colours, right? Right! Personally, I can’t think of too many colours that wouldn’t work with a blonde beard, provided we’re keeping to the deeper, darker end of the colour spectrum.

17

Light Beard Green can work great with a red beard but green can also make you look like a reject from Santa’s Workshop. The best choice for this beard colour has got to be blue every time. Blondes and brunettes might have more versatility, but blue can do things to a ginger beard that’ll have every follicle in the vicinity shrivelled in envy.

17

On the opposite end of the spectrum – literally – you will pretty much always want to avoid red. This isn’t only a question of how well your clothing suits your beard; there’s a second factor at play here. See, quite often the colour of your beard is going to be a pretty good indicator of the colour of your complexion: darker beards tend to suggest a darker skin tone; blonde beards paler. Ginger beards and rosy cheeks, for better or worse, tend to go hand in hand. This means that wearing too much red means you run the risk of looking a little too tomato-ey to be stylish. This is why the contrast of blue clothing works well, but never fear, you aren’t relegated to cool tones alone. Browns, mustard, and maroon are all warmer options that’ll look great on the ginger gentleman. 21

Silver Beard Admittedly, this last one doesn’t seem likely to apply to most of you. Grey is in, and if you’ve got grey on your face, dye-job or otherwise, you’ve lucked out. Like clothing, a grey beard is pretty neutral. You can throw damn near anything at it and be confident it’ll stick. 22

How to Shape a Beard with a Beard Shaper All you need to do when shaping a beard is line it up with your facial hair in accordance with the style you’re trying to achieve and shave over the edge.

The tapered edge makes it easy for you to shave all the hair right up to the edge of the tool and the result is a crisp, clean beard cheek line or beard neckline. Beard sculpting has never been easier than it is with a beard shaper; it gives you styles and lines you can cut to perfectly, achieving perfect symmetry every time. Now, let’s explore some of the styles you can delver into easily with this nifty tool: 25

Curve Cut: Line up the curved edge of the tool right where you want it and shaving along the tapered edge. You’ll quickly get the feel for it and see that the tool leaves the facial hair under the too safely protected from the razor’s sharp edge, resulting in a clean curve cut, 26 perfectly place.

Step Cut: A step cut is a type of graduated haircut in which the hair takes a form of cascading steps. To create a step cut, you can choose how you want the layers to look and where you want them to fall. Start with the longest later you want, and trim your entire beard to that length using your beard shaping tool to achieve symmetrical edges. Next, go on to your subsequent layers and hold the amount of hair you would like to trim to the next shortest length and repeat the process of trimming it to the appropriate length, making sure both sides are even. Repeat this process until you have the number of layers you’d like for your own unique step cut!

Trim Sideburns Place it over the hair you would like to remain on your face. Then, you can either use a razor or stubble trimmers to shave or trim along the tapered edge. Run the comb n through your sideburns and then use trimmers to shorten the hair and tidy it up. 27

Neckline: Shaping your beard neckline is one of the most important parts of grooming your beard, as a messy neckline can really detract from your overall beard style – depending on what you are going for, that is. In some cases, a messy neckline is a way to go. To get a perfectly trimmed neckline using your beard shaping tool, simply press the tool to your neck, using the line shape that you think best for your neckline. Place the tool against your facial hair where you would like your neckline to begin, protecting the hair that you would like to keep. Next, use your razor to shave upwards, towards the tapered edge of the tool. Shave all the hair on your neck below the beard trimming tool, which you have marked as your neckline. The result will be a cleanly shaven neck that serves to complement your beard nicely.
