Since ancient times, humans have been fascinated by flying. Some clever people — such as Leonardo da Vinci, for example — studied the flight of birds and designed flying machines. But it was Otto Lilienthal who, in 1891, first managed to fly longer distances — several hundred meters in this case. Since then, progress has been made at a terrific pace.
