Güicho’s house Location: San Miguel de Allende, Gto. Status: Ongoing Type: Housing Project description: The house is located in San Miguel de Allende, a colonial town near Mexico City. The project explores the town tradition and typologies, to ensure a dialogue with its context. The within space is organised around a central patio to provide the interior with light and ventilation; the rooftops are designed as terraces. The structure is design with concrete, wood, and steel. It considers a single flexible space without partition walls, modulated to fit a variety of uses and to suit changing needs. The building will be painted experimenting with traditional mixture of lime and nopal cactus juice with colour pigments. Design as a retirement house for Güicho, an audio engineer and a pizza lover, the house has wide and illuminated spaces, a big kitchen, and a small studio in the third floor, just across the rooftop garden, to enjoy the amazing views while having a great pizza.

T81 Roof Terrace Location: Mexico City Status: Production Type: Structure Project description:

The terrace was design for an office rooftop. The assemblages for the structure are based on Japanese wood tradition, with an adaptation to the Mexican craftsmen technics. The demountable structure is unfold alongside a modular construction processes. To simplify the joints, wedges are places to interlock the framework in both sides, to avoid using screws and fasteners, and a heavy construction process. As a result you end up with modular structure, simple to assemble, and provides a clean shelter to enjoy the rooftop.

Apartment B507 Location: Mexico City Status: Completed Type: Restauration Project description: For this project I restore of an apartment located in Centro Urbano Tacubaya, a modern housing estate building from 1957. The project consisted mostly in recovering the apartments original state. Since there were not original plans or pictures, the task involved imagining how the interiors might have look in it initial form. As the coating layers that cover the original materials were removed, new textures and colour patrons that were unveiled, leaving a trace that remain as finishing. In some cases, the original configuration had been alternated leaving a permanently void. In these cases we implemented new finishes that match the originals and adapted some new furniture. The restroom mirror, the shower mosaic, the kitchen workspace, are part of these adaptations to fill those voids. I also was ask to designed a daybed for the living room, restore an old sofa, and search for restored furniture that matched the modern feeling of the place. The renewed space revels its “raw finishings” marked with all its past traces, exposing its history with new textures and details.

Room of the Present Location: Itinerant Status: Ongoing. Type: Housing, research, exhibition Colaboration with: Pablo Landa Rodolfo Samperio Project description:

The Room of the Present will be a flexible, economic, easy-to-build, single-family dwelling. Its design integrates resource, energy and waste management systems in which locally appropriate lowtech devices can be “plugged in. Work will involve collecting and adapting existing sustainable technologies, and promoting their popularization and massification.

Our work emerges from the Adaptation the Cultural Pavilion and exploration of the virtues of configurations with different shapes and sizes. The structure is designed for easy assembly and sturdiness.

The Cultural Pavilion for Migrants, built in Tijuana in 2015.

Exploration of possible formal variations to the initial structure.

The Cultural Pavilion for Migrants is now used as a shelter by stranded Haitian migrants in Tijuana.

Posible assemble of basic units into larger dwellings and groups.

Unfoldings and Assemnlages Mexican pavilion for the 2016 Venice Architecture Bienale Location: Venice, Italy Status: Completed Type: Exhibition Curator: Pablo Landa Design: Tuux Project description: The pavilion narrates the “deep history of social participation in Mexico.” The exhibit focus on work and experiences that can change, propagate and adapt, rather than closed systems or final products. It is built around a principal axis of historic manuals. The manuals, and the work connected to them, shifts the focus from architecture’s common perception of unique authors and stand-alone works. The exhibition pavilion itself is built using the same principles of assemblage and dissemination. Using a repeating system of large structural modules and a textured honeycomb structure — all of which are made stable with rigidly flexed plywood panels — the pavilion exhibits notions of adaptability and resilience. Every component of the pavilion can be disassembled, collapsed of folded for easy transportation and storage. Each module is divided in three pieces, reducing the transportation volume by over 80%. Two large walls hold each module, acting as storage spaces for all transit and packing materials, both for the pavilion and furniture, and all the exhibit boxes.
