PROCESS

VIEW FROM SAYULA STREET Located in Sayula St. between Gonzalitos St. and Padua St., and almost in the corner of the neighborhood’s park, the project is a familiar house, with three bedrooms, a wide backyard and big common places. The structures are columns that modulate the rooms and permit to separate the facade. The relationship with the exterior space takes a fundamental roll, all the rooms have views to the backyard, and in the interior space all the floors are visually communicated thanks to voids in the floors.

STUDY MODEL The idea was to create a serie of open spaces that communicate all spaces inside the house and the exterior backyard.

MINISTERIOS DE AMOR FOSTER HOME

DESIGN STUDIO 3 / 2012 / MONTERREY, MEXICO

15

16

Located on the corner between Venustiano Carranza highway and Alejandro de Humboldt St. in Monterrey, Nuevo León. The project is looking to be a foster home for a non-governmental organization “Ministerios de amor” that is capable of having 60 children at once, with all the necessary services and recreation areas. The terrain has a size of 35.5 by 27.5 meters. The sight is predominantly defined by the Sierra Madre mountain range to the south and El Cerro de la Silla to the east. The design projects levels that free the view of the adjoining terrains; this set of levels manifest themselves through the use of terraces and green areas that separate rooms according to the ages of the children in the home. The library opens to two gardens from a third floor, one of them has a sizeable portion of trees and the remaining one is a lecture space. The floor also has two public terraces and a separate, private, terrace for the caretakers with a nice view of Monterrey’s Sierra Madre.

MUSEUM IN THE SKY

WORKSHOP REBUILD THE SITE'S MUSEUM / 2013 / OAXACA, MEXICO

25

24

PROCESS TEAM: Alejandra Cruz |Lidia Hernández

This project was designed in a workshop in Oaxaca de Juárez in the course of three days in July 2013. Its purpose is to redesign the museum of the archaeological zone of Monte Albán. The museum as it stands now is neglected and generally unperceived to most visitants of the site because the entrance of the archeological zone connects the site directly with the parking lot, this means that the museum is never travelled through and at most is only viewed from the front. Other problems are that the entrance to the site is hard to control and passing without paying is easy. The site is unique and has breathtaking views from the city, but these can only be viewed from the stairs because the museum occupies most of the viewing space. Seeing the places around and the city is impossible thanks to the parking lot. Current view from access, the museum covers over 70% of the panoramic view

The proposal involves the construction of the museum three meters under the access level, with the entrance to the museum being at this point zero and the roof being two meters over it. In this way the roof can be combined with the access platform creating a green space in which the public can get together for a variety of uses that don’t obstruct the surrounding view like before. A museum able to be admired from the parking lot, while from the archaeological site is perceived as a subtle green zone that becomes part of the landscape. Museum's roof, a public plaza

This setting also makes it necessary to traverse through the museum by its principal access and makes it possible to control the entrance to the archaeological zone, while dividing the construction in two separate halls, one for services (bathrooms, shop and offices) and another for the gallery and the restaurant.

The museum’s interior is a closed space with skylights that illuminate the permanent exhibitions of the museum.

FINALE EMILIA CENTRO DELLE ARTI E GLI SPORT

DESIGN STUDIO 5 / 2013 / MODENA, EMILIA-ROMAGNA, ITALY

FINALE EMILIA

PROCESS

STUDY MODELS

Located in the city of Finale Emilia (Modena) in the center of Italy, this projects looks to create a center for activities relating to art and sport inside the city. On May 29th, 2012 a great disaster befell the city. An earthquake which destroyed some buildings with great antiquity and historical symbolism while leaving others completely inhabitable. Finale Emilia has a population of 15,783 habitants and is inside one the most extensive farming plains of Italy. The project will develop in three phases: First a center for dance, exercise, bars and offices, between other functions, will be provided to the city. This building will be able to work as a shelter in the case of another natural disaster, this makes it necessary to have several containers (2.4 m by 3.0 m) that can be used as temporary structures which, if need be, can change their configuration and use. In the second phase we assume that the catastrophe has passed and the temporal structures are made permanent. In this phase the program needs to increase its reach by 1500 m2 while leaving the current containers intact as only four can be moved.

PROJECT EVOLUTION

The last phase looks to make a seamless connection between the now permanent new zone and the rest of the city by creating public, open spaces and parks that connect the project with its surroundings.

First phase of the project [access by the main entrance] The purpose was to leave the containers as they were, highlighting their temporality and creating towers of three containers that function as services modules (stairs+bathrooms) to take advantage of the limited space and create terraces.

THIRD FLOOR TERRACES AND PUBLIC SPACE In the first phase of the project is proposed create vertical towers of services (restrooms+stairs) this allows to create access to the roofs of the containers, creating terraces and expanding the original useful areas of the site. The project also tries to create a social area, a place of recreation in Finale Emilia, town that in this moment doesn’t have it, in this way is designed an open space without barriers, with flexible outdoor and indoor spaces.

41

ACCESS TO THE BASEMENT FLOOR The second phase of the project proposes a ramp that connects diverse parts of the program through a ground floor, this ground floor is located between the old containers, leave them intact to preserve their disposition. This new ground floor poses around 1000 m2 in construction with offices, restaurant, kitchen, and expand the current auditorium and gymnasium.

44

COPENHAGEN SOUND WAY

DESIGN STUDIO 6 / 2014 / COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

45

46

TEAM: Roberto De Franceschi | Filippo Gerosa EXPLODED ISOMETRIC

FINAL MODEL The project is located in Copenhagen, Denmark in one of the most important canals in the city thanks to its place next to a historical center and the touristic area. The side of the canal in which the project is located is more recent and comprehends a less populated area with great institutions like the “Royal Academy of Arts”, Denmark’s University of Architecture and the recently built Opera House. In summary it is a zone in constant economic development. The proposal looks to connect both zones of the city; for this purpose more than 40% of the land will be donated as a public space grouping all the tenants in a unique residential court, divided in two wings: one for apartments and the other for musical production. Each wing is divided further by two courtyards, one completely private with ample gardens only for residents and another which is public with a radio in the center that broadcasts the surrounding businesses. The great public courtyard next to the canal will be a flexible space meant, primarily, for musical concerts and scenic arts but in case this doesn’t happens it can be used for expositions, a marketplace or just like a park. The creation of two bridges that connect the space through the sides is another important point of the proposal because a connection between the PlayHouse and the Opera House is wanted. By doing this an area dedicated to art will be created and the plaza of the project will work as the principal connection. Maximum sound isolation is important, and therefore the construction needs to follow an oblique angle to the auditorium to stop sound waves and a frontage much more hermetic in front of the canal.

VIEW FROM THE STAGE Around 40% of the project has been thinking to be a public area, the front of the site is next to one of the most important canals in Copenhagen, and is proposed to be a park that can work as a stage in concerts or artistic performances on weekends; a market between the week, is just a big flexible public space. The front is wide open space that functions as a cultural connector between the Opera House and the PlayHouse, two of the main cultural places in the city; because of that also is designed two pedestrian bridges that link the platform on the sides.

52

53

54

VIEW FROM THE DEPARTMENTS The private gardens are designed to be seen from all the residences, the purpose is create different spaces for recreation, and to have a big independent area, just for the people that live in the complex. The gardens have a wide variety of plants and grasses, big green areas, that allows spaces for leisure, reading or playing.
