BIOGRAPHY I was born and raised in Bronx, New York. At the age of 26 I join the Marine Corps for four years. During my enlistment I was stationed overseas where I was fortunate enough to travel to multiple countries. My travels have helped me see the world in a different perspective. Having traveled I value the world in a macro aspect but also understand that I can help preserve the world by all the micro decisions I make in a day to day living. After my enlistment I came to California to continue my education. I attended MiraCosta Community College where I studied Architectural Design. I received a Liberals Arts Associate degree and then transferred to California Polytechnic University to study Landscape Architecture. I will receive my Bachelor degree in the Spring of 2019.

ME
PERSONAL As a college student, my ultimate goal and determination is to obtain a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture. I first started my college career in 2001 when I applied to New York City College of Technology (NYCCT). Unsure of what major I wanted to pursue I decided on Landscape Architecture, however, being young and not knowing the importance of obtaining a college degree not to mention balancing work and school I dropped out. I dropped out not because of my inability to balance work and school but also because of financial reasons/obligations. I therefore went to work full time as a carpenter where I specialized in custom wooded stairs. After working for eight years, the 2008 economy crises affected me financially. It was at that time that I needed to make another change and I decided to join the United State Marine Corps. In the early years of my enlistment I did not understand the significance of being a Marine or how to value the opportunities that were available. My perspective of the world change when I was deployed to Afghanistan in 2011-2012 when I saw a fellow Marine lose a leg due to an Improvise Explosive Device (IED). Although I did not sustain any injury, this event forever changed my life. I then decide to make yet another change and ended my military contract after four years. Once I was discharged I enrolled at a community college name MiraCosta College (MCC). Having been a previous Architecture student, I remember how interesting the architecture field was, so I decided to pursue it. After taking design classes at MCC I now know Landscape Architecture is something I’m passionate about and the major for me. I have recently received an Associate Degree at MCC and I am now a transfer student at California Polytechnic State University (CalPoly). Although, I am starting a new chapter in my life here at CalPoly, my experiences from the Marine Corps and MCC has not only helped me develop as a student but also as a person who enjoys helping others. These experiences and skills will help me and are a vital quality for me to obtain a Master in Landscape Architecture.
