Keep safe from fire this summer Last year the number of people killed by accidental fires in England during the summer months increased. Remember that you are at least four times more likely to die in fire in your home if there are no working smoke alarms. Test them today - before it is too late.

The outbreak of WW1 was at 23:00pm GMT on 4 th August. To commemorate this occasion there will be a Vigil service, authorised by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York, in St Mary’s at 22:00pm. The Royal Military Police, members of the Royal British Legion and Civic dignitaries will join us for the service. This will be followed by an Act of Remembrance at the war memorial in Friary Gardens at 23:00pm. Archbishop Welby said ” The centenary of the outbreak of the First World War raises a confusion of emotions and memories. I encourage you to use these resources (this service) to lift both the beauty and the agony of that sacrifice to God.” DATES FOR DIARY Friday 1st August Knit2gether 10.00am - 12.00 in The Restaurant, Greyfriars, Flints Terrace. Bring your own projects and enjoy coffee and a chat whilst making new friends. All will be made very welcome. Tuesday 29th July 2.00pm Greyfriars. The Mothers’ Union welcomes Henry Thompson who will be talking about children in Russia who have Downs Syndrome. All welcome Wednesday 30th July 7.00pm Hudswell Village Hall. PCC meeting, open to residents of Hudswell village.

Sunday 3rd August 3.00pm Strawberry Tea at Marrick Priory. We are keeping our fingers crossed for sunshine and a few strawberries for the end of the season. Do come to share them with us and the cakes and general fun on the zip wire and high ropes course. We would be pleased if you could park in Grinton field and mini buses will collect and bring you back at the end of the afternoon. We look forward to seeing you, whether it is for a cup of tea or something more adventurous. Friday 8th August 7.00pm St Mary’s Church.
