Culture of City The city of Manhattan, KS is home to many Kansas State University and Manhattan Christian College students. The median age of the manhattan residents is 24 years of age, 40% of the residents are married. The majority of married couples have children between six to seventeen years of age while 30% are under the age of six. Many of the patrons in the area are families of Fort Riley soldiers.

Client Background This is theater designed to accommodate the multiple generations in the city as well as the different groups of people. The prospective clients include: families, couples, groups of friends and single patrons. The theater will include different additions to accommodate the range of groups. These additions include: Burgerworks, a supervised play area, and a lounge bar area. The additions along will promote socialization.

Concept Statement

This project’s intention is to explore and revive the movie going experience by reprogramming them to fit the needs of today’s socially and technology driven society. This is changing everyone’s current perception of what a movie theater can offer. This theater will getting

connect the people of the community by

them more involved in movies showing at the theater, as well as, giving them a place to

socialize and interact.

Play Area Entrance

FUN PLACE Rules of the Play area: Guardians with a valid movie stub can pay $2 per hour per child to enjoy movie and dinner alone. The “ Fun Place� requires all children to be potty trained and has an age limit. During the weekdays the play area is not supervised and open to children to play while the family waits for their movie.

TRADITIONAL CONCESSION STAND Those who are not viewing a dine-in movie can get concession before entering the theater. Guest in dine-in theaters can get their popcorn and drink delivered to their seat, this will help keep the line from getting long.

LOBBY Viva Vision technology screens, similar to canopy in Las Vegas, acts as partitions to break up the lobby space. The screens are constantly changing advertisements and previews. To the right are lounge spaces to play touch screen games and read facts about the making of movies.

BURGER WORKS Customers can come in and get directly in line to order from the west entrance. Pedestrians order at the counter, receive their cup, then people can get their own soft drink to take to their seat where a waitress will bring their food. Guests will be able to order alcoholic beverages from their waitress or at the bar.
