The majority of the world is now constantly depending on their smartphones and the mobile apps that come with them. In fact, a whopping 25 billion applications have been downloaded from the Apple Store in 2015 alone. Most of these apps are categorized under fun and entertainment, but the functionality of mobile apps are not only limited to this. Plenty of applications are now supporting various industries to aid in the proper organiza8

tion and management of these businesses. The oil and gas industry is no exception to these sectors. As a matter of fact, this industry’s investment in mobile apps and some other mobile technologies will spike to approximately $18.7 billion by 2020 as reported by an American energy research company. Here are a few reasons why investing in mobile technology is a wise move for the industry.

Reasons for Using Mobile Apps in the Oil and Gas Industry

Collecting Data

T

he world has transitioned into paperless transactions, but working in the oil and gas industry meant needing to write down every piece of information gathered in the field. Although this is usually done by geologists, field managers, derrick hands, and other personnel, human errors are always inevitable.

10

This is where mobile apps come into play. The accuracy of the data is essential in streamlining the business. With mobile applications to aid in the collection of data, productivity increases as personnel can spend more time in other important tasks rather than consuming the day taking down notes.

Gathering Real-time Information

Providing Location

Real-time information is one of the most critical data that keeps the oil and gas industry flowing. This includes mud viscosity and pump rate, to name a few. Having real-time information readily available for supervisors to review helps streamline processes, which then produces high-quality results.

With mobile apps and smartphones to pinpoint the exact location of people and resources, it will be easier for the upper management to assign tasks and organize the workforce with the best possible efficiency. Knowing the location of high-risk areas will also improve safety for their personnel

Mobile applications can gather large amounts of real-time data that can make or break the entire production process.

14

Easing Collaboration The oil and gas industry does not only revolve around a single person and decision. It is a collaboration of ideas from various points of the globe, especially for companies with different operations in other countries. Mobile apps bridge the gap between the executives on the other side of the state to the personnel working in the fields. It is imperative that the right information reaches the right person at the right time.

Improving DecisionMaking Aside from better collaboration between superiors and fieldworkers, mobile apps also deliver timely information, thus leading to better decisions and fewer confusions. The tasks are organized and prioritized accordingly, reducing employee mistakes and providing a higher return of investments.

ADNOC Holds Talks in Tokyo as it Seeks to Deepen and Expand Relationships with Japan’s Energy Sector

H

is Excellency Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and Group CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), met, today, with His Excellency Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, as part of a series of meetings, with government officials, business partners and customers, aimed at building on ADNOC’s long-standing energy relationship with Japan’s energy sector.

22

During the meeting, partnership and investment opportunities, created by ADNOC’s Upstream and Downstream growth plans were explored, as well as the potential for the long-term supply of hydrocarbon products to Japan. “For more than four decades, the UAE and Japan have enjoyed a deep rooted and successful strategic relationship, underpinned by long standing energy partnerships,” H.E. Dr Al

UAE, according to the Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro). Nearly one third of ADNOC’s crude oil goes to Japan, accounting for 25% of its total crude oil imports. Other exports include LNG, LPG, Naphtha and Sulphur. In addition, ADNOC has 6.29 million barrels of crude oil stored in the Kiire Oil Terminal Strategic Reserve, in southern Japan. In February, Japan’s INPEX Corporation (INPEX) was awarded a 10 percent interest in Abu Dhabi’s offshore Lower Zakum concession. At the same time the company’s 40 percent stakes in Abu Dhabi’s Satah and Umm Al Dalkh concession were extended for 25 years. JODCO Lower Zakum Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of INPEX, has been appointed the asset lead for the Lower Zakum concession. Jaber said. “ADNOC is keen to further strengthen the relationship, deepen partnerships and seize growth opportunities along the full oil and gas value chain. “As we accelerate our focus on the increasing energy needs of Asian economies, such as Japan, ADNOC is introducing new partnership and investment opportunities across our integrated Upstream and Downstream operations. At the same time, as a trusted and reliable supplier of energy, we wish to explore opportunities to increase market access and offer

a larger share of ADNOC’s portfolio of products to existing and new customers in Japan.” Later in his visit to Tokyo, H.E. Dr Al Jaber is scheduled to meet with the Chairman of Softbank Masayoshi Son; Toshiaki Kitamura, Chairman of INPEX/JODCO; Tatsuo Yasunaga, President and CEO, Mitsui and Hendrik Gordenker, Chairman of JERA.

INPEX is one of six Japanese companies working to develop Abu Dhabi’s hydrocarbon resources. Mitsui, has a 15 percent stake in ADNOC LNG and Cosmo Oil has a 64.2 percent stake in the Abu Dhabi Oil Company, along with JX Nippon (32.1 percent), Kansai Electric (1.9 percent) and Chubu Electric (1.9 percent).

4 big corporates co-invests in ‘Baania’, Thailand’s first big data proptech company

Krungsri Finnovate, a corporate venture capital (CVC) arm of Krungsri, joined hands with PTT Public Company Limited, AddVentures by SCG, and 500 TukTuks to co-invest in Baania (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Under this collaboration, Baania’s expertise in big data-based property technology will be leveraged for further enhancement of products and services including Krungsri’s mortgage loan business, and the retail business of PTT and SCG. 26

Ms. Anchana Vallipakorn, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Baania (Thailand) which is a technology company which develops the big data-driven marketplace and data analytics platform, said “the company has been entrusted as the investment destination by four corporates -- Krungsri Finnovate, PTT, AddVentures by SCG and an existing co-investor 500 TukTuks, a venture capital under the 500 Startups group from Silicon Valley which continues to

participate in this investment round to strengthen future business expansion.” After the company’s first fundraising in 2017, Baania has developed a real-estate database to serve consumer demand on house buying as well as business operators who need investment insights. The database covers property projects in 15 provinces including Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as provinces in the northern, northeastern and eastern regions. Equipped

ia.com for investment decision making, and understanding customer demand and their personality, as well as tastes, so that goods and services can be enhanced in accordance with their needs. Baania will eventually be their efficient communication channel”, Ms. Anchana added.

with information of over 13,622 projects, 2,265,214 houses, 27,291 house designs, and over 4 million users, Baania’s system is abundant with 700 million data points available for consumer behavior analysis. “In 2018, Baania aims at expanding our real-estate database to cover 26 provinces across the country by enlarging the storage space for southern and western regions, increasing user base to 7 million, and creating innovations such as Search by Lifestyle, a search engine for residences based on lifestyles;

Bestimate, a house appraisal system; and Baania Pulse: Deep Social Listening, developed for those in the property industry.” “Integrating the technology into the real-estate database will facilitate interested consumers with a comprehensive range of information covering all areas in Thailand, and minimize purchasing mistakes. Consumers can access to insightful information in ways never before possible. At the same time, real estate operators can make use of information provided via Baan-

Mr. Sam Tanskul, Managing Director of Krungsri Finnovate Co., Ltd, said “This collaboration marks one of the largest co-investments of leading corporates in Thailand, led by Krungsri Finnovate. Baania is solid with its strong competency, competitive advantages and unique expertise in the property industry. Krungsri was first impressed by Baania’s business potential upon mutual cooperation in the Krungsri RISE project. Krungsri has placed considerable emphasis on big data and data analytics technologies which are currently crucial and beneficial to business operations. Baania’s expertise on such technologies will enable Krungsri to get the most out of the information and innovations in order to develop loan products and services to match the needs of customers and land developers in the future.” Mr. Dusit Chairat, Corporate Venture Capital Fund Manager of AddVentures by SCG, said “Our direct investment in Baania this time lies in the three reasons: (i) Baania has a business model that can completely and perfectly serve

any searches for residences by using big data, AI, and machine learning technologies; (ii) Baania’s co-founders are knowledgeable and have in-depth experiences in the real estate industry, as well as a good understanding of Thai consumer behaviors, their pain points and journey; and (iii) Baania has a business model similar to that of some successful startups in other regions such as Zillow in the United States.” “The direct investment in 28

Baania can also extend SCG’s businesses, especially cement – building materials. The information gathered and stored by Baania will help SCG gain greater understanding on consumers then serve them better. Likewise, Baania has the growth opportunity accordant with our vision – You innovate, We scale”, Mr. Dusit said. Mr. Wittawat Svasti-Xuto, Senior Executive Vice President, Innovation and Digital, PTT Public Company Limited, said “We have em-

phasized on seeking investment opportunities in companies specialized in innovations and technologies for PTT Group’s service enhancement and new business initiation toward sustainable growth. PTT believes that Baania’s in-depth database regarding Thailand’s property market and its strength in leveraging big data and machine learning for data analysis would be great advantages for PTT’s strategic decision-making and business expansion in the energy and related industries, while driv-

ing the country toward a smart city. This investment, we hope, will bring about interenterprise knowledge sharing which promotes business initiatives that better serve consumers.” Mr. Ruangroj “Krating” Poonpol, Managing Partner of 500 TukTuks, said “500 TukTuks has been interested in proptech startups, especially the big data-driven business that helps create a variety of business extensions with its special unfair advantage. Baania is the first proptech firm we invested as early as

in the seed round last year. Its highly experienced founders and outstanding business potential will lead to a solid growth. With the new funding round from strategic investors and business partners, we believe that Baania will leap forward and become the market leader soon.”

With proven technological track record, LG Electronics to lead the smart energy industry with its total HVAC solution LG Electronics targets tropical regions such as Middle East & Africa (MEA) with its unique smart energy solutions that offer high efficiency

June 30, 2019 (Dubai, UAE) – As a leader in the HVAC industry, LG Electronics is strengthening its foothold as a pioneering provider of smart energy solutions in the Middle East & African (MEA) market. According to Mordor Intelligence, a global market research company, the energy management system market in the MEA region is expected to grow at an annual rate of 11.87% to reach USD 3.76 billion by 2021 . As such, continuous research and development of efficient energy management policy is undergoing in government and international organization-scale in the MEA region. In particular, members of the Gulf Cooperation Council are increasing investment in energy infrastructure by utilizing smart grid, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia have all announced energy policies up until 2030 to maximize energy efficiency. Africa is not an exception. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, energy demand in Africa is expected to increase 2 fold by 2030 , while United Nations Environment Program analyzed that in regions like Africa where 32

energy access is restricted, efficient energy management is significant in times where demand skyrockets. In tropical climates like the MEA, where temperature goes high as 50°C, the key to smart energy management is in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions. Representatively in Saudi Arabia, 70% of energy consumption is

used in cooling compared to 48% in Europe. To tackle such needs, LG Air Solution provides highly efficient HVAC solutions. LG’s representative line for its HVAC solution is the VRF system, MULTI V, is equipped with ever powerful and reliable LG’s ultimate inverter compressors, which are vital to the efficiency of a VRF. LG inverter technol-

ogy offers maximum efficiency in part load as well as full load conditions with a large range of frequency operation, and an enhanced compressor reliability. Numerous MULTI Vs are currently successfully under operation in diverse sites in the MEA region. One exemplary site is MEA’s first net zero energy city, the Sustainable City by Diamond Developers. Requiring a highly efficient HVAC solution, especially needing a part load operation and controlling and monitoring the AC units from a smartphone, all the challenges were met by LG and the City is now enjoying the best energy efficiency. LG also provides smart energy management with its BECON (Building Energy Control) Cloud Solution, an IoT-based platform. Through numerous sensors in the BECON Cloud, remote real-time monitoring, energy efficiency management, and energy saving is possible. Maintenance service teams are also set up in the MEA region with a strong basis in Dubai, UAE and several sites in the region have adapted BECON Cloud and are receiving remote maintenance service. Expanding into the smart energy business with its technologies in HVAC solution, LG’s capabilities have been demonstrated in Korea’s LG Science Park, a world class R&D complex with an area of around 175,207m2. Not only the most up-to-date HVAC system has been adapted, but the innovative energy solution for energy management and renewable energy facilities have been realized.

For instance, simulation for energy use based on information on weather, building facility data, operating history, etc. is held to predict energy demand with BECON solutions and manage energy supply and demand. Review and analysis of energy production, saving, and load is also undergone through renewable energy facilities for smart energy management. With these advanced technical capabilities realized in LG Science Park, LG will move on to globally expand its technological leadership in smart energy management.

Mr. James Lee, President of LG Electronics Middle East and Africa said, “Starting from 2020, the MEA region is welcoming key momenta with numerous international events and government-led construction projects that can lead to high demand in energy solutions. With LG’s smart energy solutions that can maximize energy efficiency, we will contribute to the changeover of MEA cities to become intelligent.”

Of course, these luxurious home décors fit perfectly in the traditional pre-Colonial mansions and have been well-thought-of even for the smallest trinkets that are made of either silver or gold. Anyone who’s anyone is definitely on the guest list!

razy Rich Asians, a 2018 film showcasing the luxe life (and love life) of crazy rich Asian people, particularly some Chinese families. Apparently, there is quite a handful of real-life “crazy rich” families in the Philippines as well. Despite its being a third-world country, one can never doubt the fact that it is home to dozens of known names in the society that are living the high life. Prominent names such as the Marcoses, Ayalas, Lopezes, Roxases, Tecsons, Tuasons, Yuchengcos, and Tans among others have graced the streets of Manila since the 1800s. They were definitely

50

the ‘it’ crowd and the epitome of elegance and luxury spending. From traveling abroad monthly to spending an easy 10 million for a child’s birthday party, these Filipino elites sure know how to celebrate their financial success. They need not boast of their hefty wealth since it is always evident in their myriad of extravagant properties, especially their homes, which are in fact taken care of by at least a dozen pack of househelps. Many of these homes were adorned with exquisite wood furniture (made exclusively by famous craftsmen) and a few fabulous classic paintings by the likes of Amorsolo and Hidalgo.

As expected, a very chic home deserves an equally premium air-conditioning unit materialized by TOSOT in their U-Crown Split Type Aircon. This wall mounted aircon is a combination of elegance with a hint of modern and innovative technology, perfect for luxurious ancestral houses and modern homes. Here are a few other reasons why Philippine elite families choose TOSOT U-Crown Split Type Aircon.

Unique Style and Design While many other split type aircon in the Philippines have the average-looking designs, TOSOT U-Crown wall mounted aircon is a definite stand out. Its slim U-shape integrated IDU design complements an equally elegant building interior and acts more of an aesthetic than a cooling unit. Another plus in its design is the 18dBA low noise which is practically negligible in

a mansion as big the elite families have. Thanks to this neat feature, this aircon can be installed in noise-sensitive areas such as the bedroom or library. Besides those mentioned features, TOSOT U-Crown Premium Series is also built with a wide air outlet with waterfall cooling, suitable for enjoying a relaxing lazy day during the summer.

R410A Eco-Friendly Refrigerant Modern air-conditioning units have already adopted the use of eco-friendly refrigerants in their models, and TOSOT is among those who have taken the earth-friendly route in aircon manufacturing. TOSOT U-Crown Premium Series is not an exception in this route as it features a very eco-friendly refrigerant called R410A. Homeowners can now cool themselves all day long all while preserving the beloved environment with this low-impact wall mount aircon.

Powerful Performance Fabricated with a full DC inverter that lengthens the life of the unit and lessens the total energy cost, TOSOT U-Crown Premium Series aircon is packed with powerful performance. Its two-stage compressor that operates from -30 to 54 degrees provides a more flexible option to the users. They can easily switch from freezing cold to burning hot in a matter of seconds, all with a push of a remote button. Its capacity outputs up to 18,000 BTU per hour and can cool large function rooms up to about 1000 square feet. It also features four different kinds of sleeping modes, adding to the user’s degree of freedom. 52

Maximum Efficiency Although elite families can obviously spend thousands of pesos for their electricity bills, a couple hundred pesos in savings can still do them good. With the aircon’s 1Hz Inverter technology that adds to the unit’s energy efficiency, even elite families can enjoy paying less for more. Its minimum input power is 15W to 0.2W standby power that will greatly save on energy consumption for the whole house. Pairing this with a full DC inverter and an eco-friendly

refrigerant, higher machine efficiency is a definite guarantee. To find out the best split type air conditioner for your condos, mansions or yachts, visit TOSOT showroom located at 2162 FB Harrison St., San Jose, Pasay City, Philippines or call +632-8330000 to book an appointment. Asphalt Maintenance Tips From a Colorado Springs Company

Tips on how to care for and maintain asphalt surfaces to ensure their longevity Asphalt has the durability to take on years of vehicle and foot traffic without any visible signs of damage. However, all asphalt surfaces must be repaved when its materials break down or suffer wear and tear. There’s no need to worry, however, as this article will give you tips on how to care for and maintain asphalt surfaces to ensure their longevity. 60

Seal Your Asphalt Sealing your asphalt driveways in the dry summer season will help increase its longevity. It is best to apply asphalt sealant at least once every two years to renew its protective layer and have it looking fresh again. According to an asphalt Colorado Springs company, sealants help maintain the durability and strength of the asphalt’s foundation, making it last longer for years to come.

Repair Cracks Regular preemptive inspections are vital in keeping your asphalt driveway in tip-top shape. Make sure to repair cracks ahead of time, before any extreme weather conditions begin. Although small cracks in your pavement may seem harmless, it can rapidly expand and cause serious issues when exposed to harsh elements and regular use. Water percolation can cause cracks to erode and weaken the substrate below its surface, which can also lead to crocodile cracking. Spotting cracks and repairing them at first sight can help you avoid expensive repair jobs in the future. It can also be in your best interest to hire a reliable concrete repair Colorado Springs company to inspect and repair damages on your asphalt driveway.

Shovel The Snow Removing snow from your driveway is an essential part of maintenance. As the snow builds up, it can lead to hazardous conditions when driving in or out of your property. For example, a snow-covered driveway or parking lot can be slippery for pedestrians and vehicles alike. Regularly removing snow can help the asphalt retain its integrity and help reduce the likelihood of incidents from happening on your property.

Clean It Up

Use Potassium Chloride

Closing Thoughts

A simple step such as cleaning and removing debris on your driveway can go a long way when it comes to asphalt damage prevention. You should regularly remove dirt, leaves, debris, and standing water from your driveway and parking lot. Although it’s best to keep your driveway clean at all times, this can be particularly important before winter begins, as snow can freeze and stick debris to the asphalt surface. Frozen debris on your driveway can be potentially harmful for you, your family, and to the asphalt surface.

Rock salt can be effective in neutralizing slippery conditions on asphalt surfaces; however, it can also harm the asphalt pavement. Rock salts are highly corrosive and can cause premature external damages on your asphalt driveway and parking lot. Avoid using rock salt as a deicing agent and use less-damaging alternatives, such as potassium chloride.

Proper maintenance can go a long way in ensuring the longevity of your asphalt pavement. Although these tips can be easy enough to do yourself, it can still be a daunting task. Save yourself from unnecessary trouble and look for a reliable and professional asphalt company.
