Contact:

• The Netherlands is an exemplary place to study the Anthropocene, as it has repeatedly experimented with the difficult relationship between nature, culture and political dynamics on a planetary scale. Theoretical approaches to the topic was followed by a journey from Amsterdam via The Hague and Delft to Rotterdam. Through conversations with practitioners and activists on site, we had the opportunity to learn about approaches to dealing with the effects of climate breakdown and to understand the complexity and trade-offs involved in implementing such solutions. This leads to a more nuanced and critical understanding of contemporary crises

Vardzia Monastery complex, carved in a rock, XII-XIII Century Georgian picturesque monument. Vardzia fortress is arranged as storeys, on a level of 100 meters, number of storeys 3-13, it includes more than 600 storage facilities, refectories, shacks, pantries, backup storages, 25 wine cellars, with 185 wine-jars in total. Construction of the fortress was started by Giorgi III and finished by his daughter queen Tamar, who changed its original designation as a fortress and introduced it as a massive, fortified monastery. In 1551, Vardzia was sacked by Shah of Iran Tamaz I, Persians stole famous icon of Mary, golden and steel doors and many other treasures. In 1578, Vardzia was sacked again by Turks and many monks were killed, whoever survived were scattered in different directions and the monastery became uninhabited. After the Soviet rule was established in Georgia, at first, Vardzia was a tourist base and later, in 1983 museum was established. In 1989, by the blessing of Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia, Ilia II, the liturgy was revitalized again as well as Monastery life, later, in 1999.

inspirations the main reason why selected this building is landscape. It is quite similar to the vardzia site. there are green field with river and rocky mountain behind it.The site for the parking area and tourist facilities is situated across the river from the waterfall, along the curve of a trafficked road. The project simultaneously directs views towards the waterfall as well as provides a barrier toward sthe road. As the volumes gradually separate away from the wall, twisting and pointing towards the waterfall, they are reflecting at the same time the movement of the road as well as the static view of thewaterfall. Internally, this twist allows for the interior of the tourist information to be focused on a framed view of the waterfall itself through a large window. .The project aims to deliver not only a practical break from life on the road but also a dramatic experience of nature where architecture enables new ways of seeing the landscape.

architects reinvent ancient buildings by adding contrastingly modern materials and volumes to their existing layers of history. A fine example of such an architectural intervention that is in complete harmony with its host site, is this new visitors centre at Pombal Castle, a medieval fort originally built on the remains of a Roman outpost in Leiria, Portugal. With the outmost care and respect for the monument, Comoco architects have added a new volume to the already densely built and multi-layered historical site, to serve as a reception area and information centre for visitors.

digital cave vardzia digital cave gives another experience for visitors. it is like travell from 21 century to twelve centyry by the tecnologies of this era. . virtual tour which will show the lifestyle of that time, how people were living there in 11th century, clothes which they were wearing, what was they eating and drinking .There will not be guide. Visitors will be guests of the hologramqueen tamar. She will show and tell everything about vardzialike she is real host for them. The end of this show will be a devastating earthquake which literally ripped the place apart. The quake shattered the mountain slope and destroyed more than two-thirds of the city, exposing the hidden innards of the remainder. Of course everything will be digital but the feeling will be very near to the real.
