COPIES OF THE ARTISTS’ MASTERPIECE

“Vizio Cobalto” is not only the name of GIOVANNI ANTICO GAGLIARDINI webpage but his official first painting’s title. He began painting at the age of 25, after a long time with just the pencil. He remember a phrase of Michelangelo from high school: - Copying means understanding. So he said: ok, I have to copy the masterpiece of the best artists ever. He always loved the power of Michelangelo’s tones and colors, and very influenced by the effect of the low lights in Caravaggio’s works. That’s why he started copying his paintings. The Deposition, was his first experience with the brushes, understanding the different solvents and how to mix them di with the oil colors. The second copy from Caravaggio was: the Narcissus and the third and last copy, Saint Jerome.

WORKS: “THE VICE”

- Why I decided Cobalt Vice.. I love to reproduce shameless scenes of everyday life. I don’t care about the apple on the table. The apple was once and it will be tomorrow the same. I want to show where we live. What is now our era. Fun nights, buzz, drugs, selfies, social networks, sex, perversion.. Why Vice? I don’t think it’s required to explain it. It is the emblem of what we like to do. What we love, in a confused health. Why Cobalt? Because instead of putting a brown/black background like Caravaggio, the paintings have always a base of cobalt blue, cobalt purple, black and because the subjects are located in this dimension as a liquid in which they drawn, I call it “night”.Giovanni Antico Gagliardini
