Each program offers the opportunity to delve deeply into the current social, environmental, and ecological issues of a unique place while reflecting and engaging in dialog about our own actions at home. e program also includes engaging with the both the local community we visit and our community when we return through relevant service projects.

We Travel to Some Amazing Places! 1. Amazon Adventure: Peru 2. Machu Picchu & e Sacred Valley: Peru 3. Sustainable Tropics: Costa Rica 4. e Maya Yucatan: Mexico 5. African Discovery: Tanzania 6. Canyon Skies: U.S. Southwest 7. Arctic Exploration: Canada

We’ll explore the environmental and social circumstances of some of the most beautiful places on Earth as we focus on science, service, culture and leadership. is is no ordinary travel experience! We’ll get our hands dirty; we’ll overcome personal challenges; we’ll learn, grow and laugh along the way, and ultimately, we’ll walk away changed.

Organizational Values Hold true to our mission of inspiring responsible citizenship through travel. Never sacrifice educational quality for financial gain. Be honest, caring and compassionate in our work with students, educators, staff and partners. ink systemically and seek synergies. Contribute to the communities we visit through service, cross-cultural exchange, and financial and technical support. Empower volunteers to contribute thousands of hours annually to support our mission. Enable students of all abilities and backgrounds to experience travel. Live, work, and travel sustainably.

Welcome to the Summer Program Guidebook This book will help girls and their families pick a path to a summer of fun! Experience overnight camp at one of our beautiful properties, have a blast and make friends to last a lifetime. Choose a day camp experience where she’ll grow and learn while having a great time with new friends. Try one of our new family camps for fun and adventurous staff-led programming with those you’re closest to. Or, take your troop on your own camping adventure at one of the council’s properties. There’s no better place for girls to grow as leaders than at Girl Scouts. The options abound as this year we’ve included other summer programs in the Travel, Events, Series and Virtual pathways. Pathways are ways to enjoy the fun and leadership of Girl Scouting in addition to the traditional troop and camp models. Don’t let your Girl Scout experience simmer over the summer—pick a path to a new adventure!

How to use this guide We’ve tried to make this guide easy to use, but a little explanation can’t hurt. The book is divided into sections: Camp, Travel, Events, Series and Virtual. Each section corresponds to a Girl Scout Pathway—a way to participate in Girl Scouting whether you are in a troop or not. Within the Camp section you’ll find Day Camp and Overnight Camp opportunities for individual girls, as well as information explaining how to register for these camps through our online registration system called CampBrain. Also in the Camp section, you’ll see some exciting new Family and Troop Camp opportunities. These are camps that girls attend with their family members or Girl Scout volunteers, but the programming is provided by camp staff. These opportunities register through the Activity Finder on our website. Following the camp section, you’ll find other summer programming including Travel, Events, Series and Virtual opportunities. These register in the GSUSA registration system called eBiz. Throughout the spring and summer, new programs may be introduced. Stay up-to-date with our online activity finder at girlscoutsofcolorado.org/ activities and watch for details about programs and camps via e-newsletters, the GSCO blog, Facebook, Twitter and other Girl Scout correspondence.

Not a Girl Scout? Sign up today! Joining Girl Scouts connects you to an amazing network of girls close to home and around the world. Any girl in kindergarten through 12th grade is welcome. It’s easy to join, just go to girlscoutsofcolorado.org/parents/register. Your $12 annual membership fee will open the door to all kinds of amazing adventures.

Day Camp Day Camp is a great first camp experience, bringing all of the fun of camp during the day while spending the evenings in the comfort of home with your family. Girls register as individuals and can sign up with a buddy. Camps are multi-day programs held at convenient locations throughout the state. The camp day is from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for most sessions (most water camps are from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to weather). Most Day Camps for younger girls feature crafts, games, songs and other traditional Girl Scout skills, as well as science activities. Fifty percent of Day Camp activities are theme-based, but this will vary by session. Some camps are more art- and science-based and are held indoors. Please be sure to check the Day Camp page of our website for more information about increased camp capacities as well as finalization of any information marked “TBD.” Read the Camper Information Packet (placed on the GSCO blog page) carefully for specific information, including drop-off and pick-up locations, lunch information, gate passes (if applicable), directions, site instructions, lists and other important details for the session. Campers are placed in developmentally appropriate unit groups of 15 to 24 girls. Camp may be released early or canceled due to severe weather or other unsafe conditions.

Volunteer Day Camp wouldn’t be the same without dedicated volunteers. They help us make a difference in the lives of all the campers! A free week for one daughter, marketable job skills, professional contacts and an adventure of a lifetime are yours when you volunteer at a five-day Girl Scouts of Colorado volunteer Day Camp in your area this summer. You don’t have to be a troop leader, mom or even be currently involved in Girl Scouts to be a volunteer. Volunteer all five days at a program marked with a volunteer icon, and receive one daughter’s registration free. Additional daughters and Tagalongs (boys and children under the age of 5) can attend for an additional charge of $25 each. Men/fathers and other adults 18 and older are welcome and encouraged to volunteer as well. Interested in making a difference this summer as a Day Camp volunteer? Register your daughter as a volunteer child so we can contact you with further information. For information please contact: Kim Petau 303-607-4847 or kim.petau@gscolorado.org (Note: Kim will put you in contact with the appropriate person for the camp at which you are interested in volunteering. Overnight Camp Great adventures and fabulous leadership experiences await girls at overnight camp. The camp experience is about success, teamwork and choices. The programs vary with each group of girls based on the program emphasis and ideas from the girls themselves. Camping is an integral part of the Girl Scout leadership experience. This year, we’ve made some changes to our overnight camp program to use our resources wisely while still meeting the needs of girls. Girl Scouts of Colorado has beautiful camp properties around the state. Individual girl overnight camp sessions will be at Magic Sky Ranch, Meadow Mountain Ranch and Tomahawk Ranch. And other overnight opportunities are available at Lazy Acres and in Durango. Sky High Ranch will be available for troops and other groups to rent for their own camping adventures. Magic Sky Ranch, Sky High Ranch and Tomahawk Ranch are accredited by the American Camp Association and those camps as well as Meadow Mountain Ranch, are licensed by the Colorado Department of Health and Human Services. Girl Scouts of Colorado is a permittee of the Pike and San Isabel National Forests. Most hikes and backpack trips take place under a special-use permit from the USDA Forest Service. Girl Scouts is an equal opportunity provider.

Camp Trading Post Two of Girl Scouts of Colorado’s properties (Magic Sky Ranch and Tomahawk Ranch) feature trading posts with a variety of merchandise. Trading Posts are open only during check-in and check-out. Girls do not need to bring money to camp for their stay. There will be onestop shopping packets of camp necessities available to make things easier on the parent(s)/guardian(s), as well as all of the fun stuff the girls want to see. Pre-camp kits are available at the council shops and online.

Horse program qualifications and previous experience The riding programs at Girl Scouts of Colorado camps are designed so campers can progress from one level to the next, dependening on the program and location. Prerequisites are listed with each horse session. Campers are evaluated on their skill development at the end of a session, so the camper and Girl Scouts of Colorado camps know the camper’s skill level and can recommend where to go next. Beginner: No experience necessary.

Horse programs Campers in horse sessions are in general camps with a daily focus on horse-related activities. In addition to the horse activities, campers get to spend time enjoying other activities offered at camp. Campers in horse programs will spend at least 2 hours a day in horse-related activities. All activities are dependent upon the rider’s comfort level, ability, skill and the weather. There will be educational time learning about horses and horse care, practicing skills, familiarity with the barn and related equipment and tack, cleaning, as well as instruction in the arena and/or on a trail – dependent on the program.

Intermediate: Rider must have good control of a horse at a walk in an arena and on a trail. No trail riding experience necessary. Advanced: Rider must have good control of a horse at a walk and trot in an arena and on a trail, and handle a horse with minimal assistance; previous trail riding experience for an hour or more preferred. First Class: Rider must have good control of a horse at a walk, trot, and canter/lope in an arena, and be able to handle a horse with minimal or no assistance. Rider must also have participated in trail rides multiple times for longer than hour, in extreme rocky terrain. Blue jeans/long pants and riding boots (with a defined heel) are required for all programs with horseback riding. (Some riding boots are available at camp to borrow.) Riding helmets will be provided.

Troop and Family Camp

Girl Scouts of Colorado is offering exciting new family and troop camping sessions this season to give girls the chance to experience all things they love about Girl Scout camp with those they are closest to—members of their families or troops. Registration for troop and family camp will be through the Girl Scouts of Colorado website and will open on Feb. 12. You can search camps in the Activity Finder and click the Register Now button to get started. If you do not see a Register Now button, that means the session is not yet open for registration, it’s full or the registration deadline has passed. Discounts do not apply to family and troop camp sessions. Did you know Girl Scouts of Colorado properties, including Sky High Ranch, Lazy Acres, Meadow Mountain Ranch, Magic Sky Ranch, Tomahawk Ranch, Hamp Hut, Twisted Pine and others, now can be rented by Girl Scout groups and outside groups? Visit girlscoutsofcolorado.org/properties to get started planning your own camping adventure.

Troop Camping

Camp confirmation

Bond, discover and grow with your girls at Girl Scouts of Colorado properties. You get to camp with your girls while GSCO provides all the meals and programming.

An email will be sent immediately following your registration to verify your registration for Girl Scouts of Colorado troop camp. A confirmation email will be sent from inquiry@gscolorado.org with instructions on how to access your Confirmation Packet on the GSCO blog and how to submit health forms via CampDoc.

Each troop will need the appropriate number of trained volunteers to maintain Safety Activity Checkpoint ratios for your program level. Volunteers need a minimum of Leader Training and Overnights Training but do not need to be the troop’s leader or co-leader. The fees listed are per girl. Volunteers attending a session to meet Safety Activity Checkpoint ratios are free. Additional adults over the ratio pay full price if there is available space.

How to register: Registration for troop and family camping will open on Feb. 12. All girls and adults in a family or troop should be registered together through the Girl Scouts of Colorado website Activity Finder. To have a paper registration form mailed to you, please contact inquiry@gscolorado.org or call 855-726-4726 (GSCO).

Payment: Payment for troop and family camps will be processed through the website’s secure payment processor. At registration you will pay the deposit using a credit or debit card. After paying the deposit, you will be invoiced and you are welcome to pay the remainder online via credit or debit card or you can bring in cash or mail a check. If you are paying the deposit with cash, check, Cookie Credits or opportunity grant, please select mail order at checkout. The deposit must be received within 10 days.

As girls grow older and become more seasoned travelers, the scope of their travel broadens to include trips across the country or abroad on a girl-planned trip with sister Girl Scouts, or as an individual in a council or Girl Scouts of the USA-sponsored destination.
