From the Desk of the CEO A Girl Scout can do anything she puts her mind to. Over the past year, I have seen Girl Scouts get outside their comfort zones to accomplish incredible things. From overcoming challenges and facing fears on the ropes course at camp, to learning to code, to going above and beyond their cookie goals and finding new interests and passions, our Girl Scouts have amazed me!
As we enter the spring renewal season, I encourage you to think about all the ways your girl can grow with Girl Scouts next year. In Girl Scouts, she’ll form lifelong friendships, learn new skills, discover new interests, and embark on a lifetime path of leadership. Now, more than ever, our program is vital to the success of girls in school and community life. On behalf of everyone at Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, thank you for all that you do to help the girls in our community grow. The only way we are successful is with your support. Laney
As Laney prepares to bridge to the ranks of Girl Scout alumnae with her high school graduation this year, the doors to her life are just now opening. A Girl Scout Ambassador and member of the Miss Media program, Laney will be attending Boston University on a full-tuition scholarship from the Posse Foundation where she will be majoring in broadcast journalism. Over the years, Laney has represented Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta through speeches at various high-profile events and interviews on TV and radio. Outside of Girl Scouts, her impressive resumé includes being part of the Disney Dreamer’s Academy Class of 2019, member and Media Chair of the Harvard Debate Council Diversity Project, and 2019 high-school intern at the Essence Headquarters in New York City. “I take immense pride in being a part of a national organization that creates an extended family and sisterhood between young girls and powerful mentors in the exterior community in order to decrease the gap between how men and women are viewed in society.”

Selina
Selina joined Girl Scouts in high school after being exposed to the program through her robotics team. What started as a way to continue robotics turned into a life-changing experience, including being awarded the National Gold Award distinction for creating a program to spark middle school girls’ curiosity in STEM through engaging, hands-on activities in a supportive, all-girl learning environment. After graduating high school in 2018, Selina spent a gap year in Germany in a fully-immersive program before starting her freshman year as a Merit Scholar at the University of Notre Dame, where she is majoring in computer science and minoring in German. Selina continues to engage in her local STEM community by serving as a member on the Notre Dame First Year Engineering Leadership Council and on the Society of Women Engineers Tech Team. “Girl Scouts taught me to love and serve society and turned me from a shy girl into a Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker and Leader.”

Sarah
Sarah credits her Gold Award project from 2015, which focused on helping caregivers meaningfully communicate with dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, as the spark that got her into science and medicine! During her time at Stanford University, where she received her Bachelor of Science, Sarah’s advisor was so impressed with her Gold Award that he invited her to participate in neuroscience research opportunities within his lab. Sarah was also able to reference her Gold Award project on her medical school applications. Today, Sarah is beginning a fully funded MD-PhD at Washington University in St. Louis as part of their Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP). The Washington University MSTP is supported by the National Institutes of Health and only accepts 25 students each year. “Girl Scouts not only taught me leadership skills, but how to accomplish my goals, no matter how large! I learned there is nothing I can’t accomplish if I just break it down and work piece by piece.”

Gold Award Girl Scouts are the dreamers and the doers who take “make the world a better place” to the next level. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the mark of the truly remarkable—proof that not only can she make a difference, but that she already has. It is a key that can open doors to scholarships, preferred admission tracks for college, and amazing career opportunities. Each year, Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta awards more than $50,000 in scholarship money to Gold Award Girl Scouts. Thirtynine US colleges and universities offer scholarship awards to Gold Award Girl Scouts, ranging from $1,000 to $18,500 per year.
Skye W., H20 Life (Left and top photo) Troop 27595, Fulton County Skye started H20 Life, a program designed to address the lack of access and affordability of swimming and water safety. Her project also drew attention to drowning disparity in her community. H20 Life worked with African American youth in sixth and seventh grade, a group with the highest incidence of drowning according to the CDC. Skye obtained her swim instructor certification so she could serve as their primary instructor.

When Cadettes focus on an issue they care about, learn the facts, and take action to make a difference, they gain the confidence and skills that will catapult them to lifelong success. It all adds up to the Girl Scout Silver Award— the highest honor a Cadette can achieve.
When Juniors team up to make a difference in their community, they learn important leadership skills, discover new passions, and watch how seemingly small actions make a big difference. It all adds up to the Girl Scout Bronze Award— the highest honor a Junior can achieve.

Calm Down Kits to Help with Emotional Regulation Troop 15033, Rockdale County Troop 15033 noticed there were students in their classes who had a tendency to become angry quickly and had a hard time calming down. When this happened, it took away learning time from others. As a result, they created Calm Down Kits for teachers to give to classmates as a way to calm down peacefully and respectfully. STEAM for Kids Troop 12752, Fulton County STEAM for Kids was created to increase the number of kids exposed to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. The troop created a website with 25 fun STEAM activities for kids to do at home and promoted the program in their local elementary school.

in review The 2020 Membership year has been filled with memories and magic moments! Let’s take a moment to look back on the fun we’ve had. We can't wait for the day when we can all be together again!
Treats & Keeps Girl Scouts kicked off the year by becoming Treats & Keeps Bosses! They opened their own business and earned money for their troop activities by selling chocolates, nuts and magazines. Girl Scout Night at the Aquarium Girls got an inside look at the Georgia Aquarium at night! They spent the night enjoying exclusive access to the exhibits and getting a behind-the-scenes peek. Mountain Jubilee Girls spent quality time with their favorite guys in the great outdoors while enjoying a “festivalstyle” weekend at Camp Misty Mountain.
Super STEM Expo Girls explored the world of STEM and reached for the stars, literally, by meeting NASA Astronaut Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger. Serendipity Girls and their moms spent the weekend reconnecting at Camp Meriwether. The weekend was spent trying new things together like horseback riding, climbing the rock wall, canoeing and so much more! Day at the Barn Troops who participated in the Adopt a Horse program got the chance to visit their horse, do horse-themed crafts, and learn more about our equestrian program.
Girl Scout Cookie Program Girls successfully launched our brand-new cookie, Lemon-Ups®! They mastered goal-setting, decision-making, money management, people skills and business ethics as part of the largest girl-run business in the world. Girl Scout Day at the Capitol Girl Scouts from all over Georgia came together to meet their legislators and learn how to advocate for new bills and laws.

Did you know that Juliette Girl Scouts are registered girl members, in grades K-12, who are not affiliated with a troop? They participate in a way that fits their schedule, attending events and participating in activities that meet their needs and interests. What can a Juliette do? Everything Girl Scouts in a troop can do! As a Juliette you have the same opportunities as girls in traditional troops and are able to pick and choose the way you want to participate in Girl Scouts, both inperson and virtually. Renewing for another year of Girl Scouts is easy! Follow the steps below to renew your troop.

Go online to www.GirlScoutsATL.org On the main page, select MYGS/Sign In, then scroll down to select Member Profile. Click here to manage your troop members.
Step 1: Log In

Log in using your username and password. (Reset your password by selecting “Forgot Password”) Select the Troops tab at the top of the page. If you lead multiple troops, a drop-down menu will show all troops available to renew. Renew ONE troop at a time. Confirm that the drop-down menu in the upper right says NEXT YEAR

Your roster of members appears below. You can renew members in the troop. (Note: If you are unsure about a member or have a member not returning to the troop, select "Renew Later.") Hit continue. You can add members (girl or adult) and their registration type.

5 Before payment, you must agree to the Girl Scout Promise and Law! Select your Annual Donation Amount on behalf of the Troop. You can make a collective donation through the Payment option during the renewal process, and it is added to your total.
4 Adults have the option to choose a Lifetime Membership. Important! As an annual adult or lifetime member, it’s very important to renew your volunteer role as well. You can select multiple roles (coleader, treasurer, etc.) Don’t forget to select your volunteer role.

In order for a gift to be considered an individual gift, it must be $35 or more per household. Each girl in the household will receive a patch. After the donation page, add your payment details (billing info, credit cards, etc.)
