The Camp Experience CAMP LIFE
Campers and staff live in groups called units. Sleeping accommodations vary by camp. Girls are housed in groups of 4–12 campers and staff sleep in separate accommodations within the unit. At night, staff members are always within earshot if they are needed. A central shower house is available for girls to use. A cross between a cabin and a tent, yurts have bunk beds for 12 girls, a domed skylight, and screened windows and doors. Platform tents have four beds and are heavy canvas with wooden floors. Four-season cabins have bunk beds, sleep eight girls, and have electricity. Three-season cabins have two screened walls and sleep eight girls. All of our camps offer swimming, arts and crafts, hiking trails, team games, GPS, canoeing and kayaking, family-style meals in the dining hall, and a fitness course.
Camp Staff
The River Valleys camp staff is made up of enthusiastic, well-trained, fun, caring, experienced, and energetic individuals. Camp staff come from throughout the region, across the country, and even around the world. Staff complete a minimum of 60 hours pre-camp training. All camp staff are certified in first-aid and CPR and many staff have additional training/certification. All aquatic activities are supervised by certified lifeguards. River Valleys’ camps are accredited by the American Camp Association and follow recommended staff-to-camper ratios.
Meals
Nutritious, well-balanced meals are served family style in the dining hall. Girls may also have the opportunity to plan and cook a meal outdoors. Please contact us will any dietary restrictions or allergies at least one month before camp via camps@girlscoutsrv.org.
Cookie Credits
Put those Cookie Credits to good use—camp! Girls earn Cookie Credits when they sell Girl Scout Cookies. The more cookies sold, the more credits earned. As a WGIT, you’ll help trip directors and leaders prepare equipment and food for wilderness trips, and answer campers’ questions. Depending on the schedule, you may even accompany groups on trips. WGITs are recommended to have completed one fourth- or fifth-level trip in addition to having extensive leadership experience.
