Early Life
Born between 1340-1344 Chaucer means maker of shoes or hose Born in London Son of a Wine Merchant and Deputy to the Kings Butler Little is known about his education but his works show that he could read French, Latin and Italian
Chaucer’s jobs
He was a soldier, an esquire of the Kings household, a member of the diplomatic missions, controlled customs and was a member of the parliament. He controlled customs of exporting leather, wool, sheep skins All the products came through the Port of London 1359-1360 Chaucer went with Edward the III’s army during the 100 year war.
Chaucer’s Wife
Little is known about Chaucer’s life between 1361-1366 but many believe this is when he met and married his wife, Philippa Roet. Philippa was the sister of John of Gaunt future wife. John of Gaunt is the 1st Duke of Lancaster.
Canterbury Tales
Known as greatest epic works of world literature Work was left unfinished when he died. . The novel follows 30 people who are on their way to the shrine of St. Thomas Becket Was a collection of stories in the fourteenth century. Some of the stories involved in the Canterbury Tales are: “House of Frame”, “Parliament of Fowls”, and “Troilus and Criseyde”.
