Living on A Whole New Level When the number of population escalates, the city is getting more and more congested by their citizen’s activities and their needs? But they become more individualistic And they stop paying attention to what’s around them To other people? To the environment? To their health and well being?
To their life?
becomes the most important facilities especially in a metropolitan city like Surabaya. Private vehicles become the most popular transportation for the people of Surabaya, it is officially reported that the ownership of private vehicles according to a survey increases from 1.000.042 in 2003 to 2.447.368 in 2007. Private vehicle promotes a faster, easier, and more comfortable movement to people.
The central city of Surabaya with a busy activities in day and night. Office buildings and other retail facilities occupied most activities here, creating a busy road and resulting polluted area
of the quantities of vehicles, various points of traffic jams in Surabaya are increasing in number, which affects people’s
accessibility and mobility that is detrimental to time efficiency, fuel efficiency and convenience. This condition has significantly affected the environment. According to the statistics, 5.5 million tons of carbon monoxide is released annually by transportation sector alone, making it the largest contributor of pollution, with industrial sector as the second largest.
The fact that the environment is in critical condition, caused by air pollution and noise from the transportation activity, has affected the environment’s ecosystem cycle. There are things that we are not paying enough attention to: it’s the missing of pollinators and birds. Their habitat and food source has been continuously displaced by urban infrastructures like buildings and roads, creating an unbalanced ecosystem in cityscape.

03/03 Living on the whole new level Considering human’s comfort: the areas for pedestrians are sheltered from the daylight
form of energy, instead of relying solely on the city’s electricity supply that still uses coal for the main resource, solar panels are installed on the roof of the shelters.
Considering pollinators & birds’ comfort: Insects like bees and butterflies love sunlight
A ramp is provided for each platform. This allows disabled people to use the platform as well. Exposed Structure allowing the wind to flow in an out of the platform effortlessly.

The roof of the shelter also functions as rainwater catchment system, to be collected and stored by an underground tank to be used as the source for watering the plants and trees.
Some of Hybrid +7.0 structure is made from recycled materials from the 3 old existing pedestrian footbridge.

Composting Bin. Organic waste from the vegetation (crops, fallen leaves) is collected to be used later as fertilizer for the plants and trees.
The elevated structure possess minimum intervention towards the existing site. The trees that lined the sidewalk below the platform then can still be maintained and not to be cut down.
