Floating Box House Elysium - Tanjung Bunga, Makassar, Indonesia 2014 // Built M+DA Studio // Architect Team Responsibilities: Produce facade design, particularly 3D m o d e l s , a nd a l s o re s p o n s i b l e for presentation materials.
Concepts The main idea behind this design is to create a house that looks like “rumah panggung”. As we know, “rumah panggung” is used as a main guidelines to build Buginese and Makasarese’s traditional house. Generally, this house was divided into two section vertically. The first one is the section that looks slight. Walls on first floor was pushed about 3-metres, so it gives space for terrace and chance to exposed the columns. The first floor also use big glasses as windows. The application of these exposed columns, big glasses and some perforated materials at the first floor creates a different look and gives float impression at the base of house. The second one is the section that looks more weighty. It consist of a smaller size of glasses and a massive box with less aperture. The box was design with less accent so people can see the box as the box itself.

Tropical House Tanjung Bunga, Makassar, Indonesia 2015 // Proposal M+DA Studio // Architect Team
Concepts The main concept and idea of this design is to create a modernlooking facade, which is not only visually pleasing, but also response to the tropical climate. In order to accommodates the tropical climate in Indonesia, particularly in Makassar, this house adapt the local design of traditional tropical house in South Sulawesi.
Responsibilities: Discuss the design concept, produce 2D drawings and 3D models, and a lso responsible for presentation materials.
Context and Tropical Features As a response for the tropical approach design, the shape of roof and facade are also adjusted to the Makassar tropical climate. Tanjung Bunga district, which is located near sea, has plenty of succulence air and wind, but a very high intensity of uncomfortable daylight. In order to overcome this conditions, the design was made to embrace and enhance the fresh air circulation to the room, by the usage of large windows. In other hand, the wide dangle roof was also elected to create maximum shadows and prevent direct contact of daylight to the room. Moreover, the facade design also maximizing timber material, which is to be expected to provide a homey, warm and calm ambience for the occupants.

Concepts Cultural Art Center Makassar is a center of art activity in South Sulawesi. It accommodates any kind of art, including traditional and contemporary art. The building is expected can reflects the local wisdom of South Sulawesi, especially Makassarese and Buginese’s. The inspiration for the design came from “Sulappa eppa” and macrocosm concept. “Sulappa eppa” concept, which is used for the basic form for building’s plan, is a four-side form which reflects four element in nature water, fire, ground and wind. It reflects about harmony in nature. The macrocosm concept is used for building’s main form. It represents the three main part of human body - the head, body and legs. In this design, the columns on base represents legs, the building represents body and the roof represents head.

Context and Sustainable Features Parking Area
The building was designed to respond to the sunlight, wind and water conditions. The building represents a departure from the norm of enclosed air-conditioned building which most can be found in Indonesia, especially Makassar. Having it semi open air, not only makes it more comfortable, but also reduces energy. The pattern on the facade is taken from “bombang pattern which can be found on South Sulawesi traditional sarong. The function of this pattern is not just for aesthetics, but also as secondary skin. So, the windy air and the light still can get into the room, but still giving privacy for user. The building mass also extends from the east to the west to minimize exposure to the sun.

Hotel Resort Makassar, Indonesia 2012 // Proposal Campus Project for TSPA 5 Subject
Concepts The inspiration for the design came from water, especially transverse wave what was created from a waterdrop. This kind of wave has a center and float radially. The transverse wave concepts will be developed for floor plan use, such as the using of radial pattern for the plans. To strengthen the water concept, facade of the building also adopt the form of a wave as secondary skin. It’s applied at the side of hotel’s corridor. The used of secondary skin is not just for aesthetics, but also to reduce energy. Secondary skin allows wind and sunlight get into corridor, so no need air-conditioner or lighting at corridor in day, as found at most hotel in Makassar.
