EID Ultra Retract-O-Mati

Electronic Identification Allflex pioneered electronic livestock identification with the introduction of the first EID products in North America in 1993. Allflex ElD Tags provide superior performance by quickly and accurately identifying large volumes of animals at the speed of commerce in today’s livestock industry.

EID Tags Allflex manufactures both High Performance HDX (half-duplex) and FDX (fullduplex) tags that meet the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) established RFID (radio frequency identification) standards for livestock identification. These tags utilize the low frequency 134.2 kHz band which can be read through most materials in wet and dirty conditions and provide a well-defined read zone. HDX technology is considered the gold standard for livestock electronic identification and offers the greatest possible read distance. FDX technology offers standard performance at a lower initial cost. Allflex is proud to be the only company to offer both technologies. Allflex also manufactures official government program EID tags.“840” or “US Country” coded tags are becoming the preference of animal health officials and are designed to simplify the recording process with USDA. The Canadian Cattle Identification Agency (CCIA) uses Allflex EID tags for national identification and traceability.

EID-Visual Matched Sets

These tag sets provide a combination of an Allflex EID tag and a Maxi or Large visual tag with corresponding laser-ink printed numbering. The full EID number is printed in the neck area of the visual tag. Reverse side marking is also an option. All tag sets feature Tamperproof design and are available with HDX or FDX EID tags.

1 Wipe tag surface clean with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.

2 Mark tag indoors in a well ventilated area at room temperature. Keep the internal valve partially open by applying slight, constant pressure on the tip.

Write numbers a n d letters slowly for heavy i n k i n g a n d d u r a b l e marking. Insufficient ink will cause the markings to fade prematurely.

4 Mark at least two times, allowing for proper drying between markings for best results.

National Animal Identification System: AIN Tags The NAIS is a voluntary, cooperative Federal-State-Industry program, providing a standardized information system for Federal and State animal-health authorities to use in responding to animal-disease events in the United States.

Recommended EID Tag Placement Application site must be free of foreign debris prior to placement of tags on the animal. Review application instruction prior to tagging. IMPORTANT: Caution, â&#x20AC;&#x153;Free Air Spaceâ&#x20AC;? is critical for proper healing and retention. Inspect placement after tagging to ensure there is sufficient space between ear and EID tag.

FOR CATTLE 1. The EID tag should be placed in the middle of the ear between the two cartilage ribs close to the head. 2. The female portion of the tag should be on the inside of the ear with EID tag application. Note that this is a thicker part of the ear. Application may be more difficult than when applying a visual tag.

FOR SWINE 1. Place the EID tag in the middle or thicker part of the ear. 2. The male tag should be on the outside of the ear and the female (or EID tag) should be placed on the inside of the ear. Tag retention is improved when male tag lays flush against the back side of the ear. IMPORTANT: Tag application may vary based on breed type and ear size.

Managing EID Data The Allflex EID Tag is a crucial part of an electronic identification system. As such, the tag is simply the first of four elements needed for complete data collection and management. Data collection systems are varied and constantly evolving. They typically include:

Precision Instruments Correct usage and proper care can extend the life of your Allflex syringe and keep it in top working condition. After use or when switching medications, the cylinder and feed tube should be thoroughly cleaned. Maintain O-rings and

valves by periodically lubricating the syringe with a small amount of castor oil or vegetable oil. DO NOT USE mineral oil, silicone, glycerin or alcohol. Petroleum based products will reduce the life of the components.

TAG APPLICATION Application Instructions for Allflex Electronic Identification Ear Tags Apply Allflex Electronic ID Tags with the Red Universal Total Tagger. Use the red blunt pin and remove the black insert from the base of the jaws.

1. To load, depress spring clip and insert the female EID tag. Ensure that the raised portion of the tag, which encloses the transponder chip, is placed in the open portion of the jaws.

2. Slip the male tag completely onto the blunt applicator pin. Squeeze the jaws together lightly to ensure the male shaft is in line with the female.

3. Dip the jaws of the applicator holding the tag into an antiseptic or disinfectant solution.

FOR SWINE 1. Place the EID tag in the middle or thicker part of the ear 2. The male tag should be on the outside of the ear and the female (or EID tag) should be placed on the inside of the ear. TIPS FOR MARKING 1 Wipe tag surface clean to remove normal oily film. Recommended cleaner is isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.

2 Mark tag indoors in a well ventilated area at room temperature. When using the 2-in-1 Marking Pen, keep the internal valve partially open by applying slight, constant pressure on the tip. This allows the optimum amount of ink to flow through the fiber and etch the surface of the tag.

The Allflex 2-in-1 Marking Pen is specially formulated for use on Allflex Ear Tags

3 Write numbers and letters slowly for heavy inking and durable marking. Insufficient ink will cause the markings to fade prematurely. Ink mark should be solid and not streaked.

4 Mark at least two times, allowing for proper drying between markings for best results.

5 If possible, move marked tags to dry in a warm, sunny area as this enhances ink penetration. Allow mark to dry thoroughly before tagging animal to avoid smudging or disfiguring of mark.

Considerations When Selecting a Syringe When selecting a syringe, consider more than the species

• Products to be administered Some instrument components are adversely affected by medication carriers, pour-on formulations or solvents. Some vaccines and antibacterials are formulated with oil-based adjuvants that slow the injection and auto-fill speeds. • Number of animals to be treated If you are processing or dosing large numbers of animals, consider a syringe or drencher with the large capacity backpack reservoirs. With the Allflex auto-fill, you can treat large numbers of animals without interruption. • Hand size and strength of use Hand fatigue can be avoided by fitting the syringe to the individual who will be helping administer medications. SYRINGE FAQS PRIMING A SYRINGE Frequently Asked Questions Priming the syringe eliminates air from the system, assuring the proper dose is administered.

Position the dosage indicator to approximately half the capacity of the cylinder. Pump the handle until the medication is expelled from the needle or nozzle in an unbroken stream. To avoid loss of medication during priming, insert sterile needle or nozzle into the neck of the container.

SYRINGE CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

Proper care can extend the life of your Allflex syringe. After use, or when switching medications, the cylinder and feed tube should be thoroughly cleaned. Note: See Frequently Asked Questions for boiling technique.

Add 4-5 cc of detergent to one quart of hot water. Note: When using modified live virus vaccines, use caution selecting detergent. Avoid antibacterial/ disinfectant soap as it may harm the vaccine. Set the dosage system on maximum and briskly pump the hot detergent solution through the medication reservoir, feed tube and instrument. Rinse by pumping clean water through the reservoir, feed tube and instrument until water is expelled. Pump dry and remove the tubing. To maintain the O-rings and valves, periodically lubricate the syringe with a small amount of castor oil or vegetable oil. Note: Do not use mineral oil, silicone, WD40, glycerin or alcohol. Petroleum-based products harden the rubber rings and valves, reducing the life of the components.

Q Which models can be used as either a drencher or injection syringe? A Allflex models 10VM and 20VM convert from injection syringes to drenchers.

A drencher nozzle or needle holder is all that is required to make the conversion.

Q How do I sterilize my syringes? A Do NOT boil the 2EM, LD.3EM-BT, 2EM-BT, 5EM, 5EM-BT, nylon syringes or 70 and 200ml drenchers. You can sterilize the other syringes by boiling the syringe, feed tube and draw-off cap at least 20 minutes. Suspend the items in the boiling water to prevent damage if the water boils away.

Q Can I use alcohol to sterilize my syringes? A No. Alcohol damages the rings and valves in the syringe. Q What size of needles should I use with the Allflex syringes? A Needle size is determined by the species you are injecting and the

injection site. All standard livestock needles can be used with Allflex syringes. If you have questions about which size needle to use, consult your local veterinarian.

Q Can I repair the syringe myself? A Your Allflex dealer has repair and replacement parts available. Take special

care to lay parts out on a clean white cloth for visibility, and replace parts exactly in the order they were removed.

Recommended EID Tag Placement Application site must be free of foreign debris prior to placement of tags on the animal. Review application instruction prior to tagging. IMPORTANT: Caution, “Free Air Space” is critical for proper healing and retention. Inspect placement after tagging to ensure there is sufficient space between ear

and EID tag.

FOR CATTLE 1. The EID tag should be placed in the middle of the ear between the two cartilage ribs close to the head.

2. The female portion of the tag should be on the inside of the ear with EID tag application. Note that this is a thicker part of the ear. Application may be more difficult than when applying a visual tag.

FOR SHEEP 1. Place the EID tag in between the cartilage ribs of the ear, near the first quarter of the ear (closest to the head).

2. The female portion of the tag should be placed on the inside of the ear.

General Description The Universal Total Tagger Applicator is fully adaptable to apply the entire range of Allflex tags. With the replaceable clip in the jaws and the replaceable applicator pin, the applicator can be configured to apply visual and EID Tags. This applicator works well with all livestock tag applications with the deep jaws and the user-friendly comfort grip.

Construction

This rugged universal applicator is constructed of High Quality Die Cast Aluminum with removable/replaceable colored plastic inserts for application of Allflex Tags.

Performance Capabilities For application of Allflex EID tags, the white clip or the black clip needs to be removed. This allows the EID tag to fit properly in the jaws of the applicator. In addition, the Red blunt pin must be installed. For application of Allflex Global and Tamperproof tags, the Black Clip needs to be installed with the red blunt pin. Included with Universal Total Tagger. For application of Allflex Classic tags and some Insecticide tags, the White clip is used along with either the sharp or blunt pin depending on male tag design.
