MULTI-FUNCTIONAL TOWER 8
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE / HOTEL SELVA DE MAR, BARCELONA
The tower is a landmark watching at the big scale but at same time it’s an element that fills in the hole in the urban texture by adding to the built front of the Diagonal and the corner between Selva de Mar axes, thus completing the block on its southern side. This tower, formally treated as a prism, twists and turns between pre-existent buildings with its volumetric swerves and defines clearly both its urban function and its purposes of Chamber of Commerce and Hotel. Detailed technical study on sustainability led to the development of two construction details for the sheath: a double façade looking South-East and South-West; a single façade looking North-East and North-West. Both guarantee direct and indirect ventilation.

DEPARTMENT STORE 16
STOCKHOLM
The challenge is to present different environments for various types of products in order to intrigue visitors, whilst trying to avoid an annoying effect of disorientation. Artists such as Mondrian and Malevic were a fundamental source of design inspiration. The project is articulated as different compositions of a set of units generating a variety of spaces with different qualities displayed from level to level. Staircases, escalators, lifts, changing rooms, and lavatories interact with the large central courtyard in order to guarantee visitors a chance to find their bearings inside the store; at the same time, it intrigues them by offering glimpses of the different floors. As the escalators are connected to the only large windows in the building, in the transition from one level to another there is a change of scene, a moment of pause and contact with the outside world before diving, with renewed surprise, into the universe of the store.

CHILDREN’S AREA SEMPIONE PARK, MILAN
22
A themed site for one-day workshops on horticultural topics for preschoolers; hence the need to separate the technical units from the learning area. Two functional bodies inspired to rational geometry, are oriented to the South-East and South- West in order to set a unified front towards the city and open up, on the opposite side, into a court that looks towards Sempione park. The differently sized workshop units have the shape of circular pavilions and are placed in the court related to the crops and activities of their surrounding area. The pavilions are linked together and to the main body by a glass corridor that fences an inner court, a privileged space for games, connected with the dining hall. Finally, the roof of the central body hosts a number of small “social” gardens available to anyone with a passion for organic farming.

GUADALQUIVIR SPORTS CENTRE 28
PLANNING THE RIVER SEVILLE
The project for a multi-purpose sports centre is ideally located on the west bank of the Guadalquivir river in Seville, in an area abandoned after the 1992 Expo but a strategic one, given its proximity to the bridge and to Calle Odiel and the city centre. One aim of the project was to create a filter between the city and the new river front. The building embraces the site, defining a square to the North, configured as a privileged access to an enhanced pedestrian path along the river. The sports centre is divided into two areas joined at basement level: the smallest to the West, contains the gym and the restaurant, which are in a special relationship with the park; the largest to the East, slopes gently, through a succession of terraces lightened by the water surfaces of its indoor and outdoor pools, toward the river, the real protagonist of the project.

HOME & WORK 34
BRIGHT INSIDE MILANO BOVISA
The brief consisted in planning a residential and work unit for a professional and his family in a courtyard of Milano Bovisa area. The client was a 45-year-old freelance dentist living with his wife and their two children, and unwilling to spend hours travelling to work. Hence came the idea of joining the public space of the practice to the private one of his home. The concept was to have a centrally planned structure of two floors around a small private court looking out to the original courtyard. This structure is contained inside a box made of reinforced concrete on the outside and glass on the inside, which creates different effects of light and depth.

RESIDENTIAL BUILDING COMPETITION 42
MILAN
A restricted competition for a luxury residential building in Milan. We face the ambitious project trying to combine sustainability and the commercial requests of the client. As a matter of fact the project define a sustainable intervention as it integrates respectfully in the urban contest even though it uses all the constructible area. It recalls the Milanese tradition of the curtain building with a green courtyard on the backside. The architectural language interprets in a modern key the materials of Milanese tradition: “Ceppo stone and Gres.

PRIVATE APARTMENT 44
RENOVATION ROME
The renovation project of this apartment revolves around the separation between social spaces and private ones. Hence the only two doors connecting to the bedroom’s area of the family are disguised in a big custom-made piece of furniture, “the box”, which begin the main protagonist of the project. The accurate choice of materials, the careful design of customized details and the use of innovative technologies make this house a real smart-living jewel.

RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX 46
101 APARTMENTS MILAN
The project involves the complete replacement of existing buildings and the construction of a new residential complex. It provides the creation of a new block, that identifies a new perimeter curtain. The new building complex, consisting of 11 stairwells, develops on the perimeter of the lot, determining a large central garden with tree plantings. The section of the building is particularly interesting, as the apartments that face the garden have a living area with a one and a half height. This solution produces an interesting game of the facade, with the alternation of different sizes openings.
