Our Mission Our mission is to provide a memorable experience to high school students who do not have the financial resources to attend their school prom. Giving The Glam gives support for these students to promote their confidence and improve self-esteem. We cover all expenses including clothing, accessories, transportation and photography.

About Us

Giving the Glam • Prom 2016
Giving the Glam is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization based in Massachusetts. It was established by Brazilian philanthropist and fashionista Maristela Rapo. Students are selected by Giving the Glam in coordination with Massachusetts student grant programs such as Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity (METCO) and the Boston Police Department - District B-3 Community Service Officers. Giving The Glam is a program that helps financially disadvantaged teens – both girls and boys – enjoy the high school prom experience. Each participant is provided with everything he/she will need to experience the prom in style. This includes clothes, accessories, hair styling, make-up, professional photo, video, hotel to get ready for the big day and a car service to the event. The goal is to create an experience of a lifetime for these young people who might otherwise be unable to attend a prom. We want our participants to feel special and confident on their prom night. As one student explained, “To get compliments... was not only nice to hear, but also empowering. It made me feel a new confidence in myself that I never knew I could have. That is exactly how I felt on my prom night and how I still feel today.”
What We Do In the months leading up to prom season, the Giving the Glam team works tirelessly with the selected students and their families to ensure that all the students’ prom needs are met. The students are given the opportunity to try on and choose from a wide variety of clothing and have trial sessions for hairstyle and makeup. On the day of the prom Giving the Glam aims to pamper and to give personalized attention regarding every aspect of the experience. Although Giving The Glam financially supports a complete prom experience, a more significant goal is to help these young people be part of a major rite of passage with the classmates. For young women we provide: Prom dresses and accessories Hair styling, makeup and manicure For young men we provide: Tuxedo rental and accessories Haircuts and styling services Also included for Giving The Glam participants: • Photos - We use professional photographers to help commemorate the event. • Videos - We use professional videographers to help make lasting memories. • Hotel - We rent a hotel meeting room to get our students ready for the big prom day. • Car service to the prom – We want our participants to arrive in style. Because each participant and prom experience is unique, the services that we provide can vary. Please contact us if you would like more information about our services and the program.

Founder Maristela Rapo is the founder of the style advice organization Fashion Moi Moi and the former owner of two fashion boutiques in the Boston area, Wolford Boutique and Giuseppe Zanotti. She is passionate about fashion and the idea that everyone deserves to look and feel their best, regardless of economic status. She was born and grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She cites her own humble beginnings as the inspiration for starting Giving the Glam. “I grew up with very little, so I really appreciated it whenever someone did something to make me feel special. Now it’s my turn to give back. Since the prom season of 2014, she has been doing just that. She initiated her Giving the Glam project by awarding one student a prom makeover in 2014. The experience was such a success that by the following year, the number of students receiving the full Giving the Glam treatment jumped to twenty. Accomplishments The Giving the Glam Prom 2016 program accomplished its goal to help fifty-two high school students from thirteen different schools in Massachusetts. The founder of the program Maristela Rapo invested her own resources and donated all the items to those young people so they could have the ultimate prom experience. Along with the help of her team each recipient received a full prom day experience such as formalwear, accessories, make-up, shoes, photos, and transportation for the most memorable day of their life.
