Taxonomy of 30 owls, A Parliment 2013
Georgia Jane Chipchase A Parliment
I based my taxonomy on a collection of owl item that I have accumulated over the years. The way in which I choose to reappropriate these Item was in the form of an owl character, which I named ‘Archimedes‘. I illustrated all of the 30 owl items in my taxonomy with Archimedes in relevant settings and added a typographic quote with a personal relevance to each item. This is the point at which the poster and stickers were generated. Although I found the first to design outcomes for Archimedes worked I felt there was more room to push my taxonomy ideas within the Archimedes collection. At this point I began to look at game cards which could hold the illustrative outcome and the taxonomy data. I found this idea really worked as a collection and helped me to explore a new design perspective as my taxonomy became more of product based around my taxonomy. From this point I plan to explore how my product can become more of a story game. This I think could be a really interesting outcome for this brief as it will illustrate not only the journey I have had in the collection of these items but will give others a chance to create and construct there own journeys with Archimedes. If you would like to have a closer look into my design process for ‘A Parliament’, you can follow these links below http://www.behance.net/gallery/A-Parliment/12725061 http://georgiajanechipchase.com
My work was based around a collection of 30 classic minis that I took at the biggest mini gathering in the world. I attended this event at the beginning of June and it spanned a whole weekend of driving, camping and socialising with other mini enthusiasts. After taking the photos, I worked through the project and realised how interested other people outside of the mini community were interested in the story of the event and why I went and where my love of minis came from. This gave me the idea to develop a booklet which presented all 30 photographs in their full glory as well as a page of background information and personal connection to the event to supply a narrative element to it. Aidan Cooke Bottle Cap Taxonomy
My project consisted of me collecting bottle caps and discussing the narrative behind them. The way in which I approached this was by deconstructing all of the different elements in the bottle caps, and presenting it in a magazine form. I found this to be a successful method of display as it split up all of the different components well, and allowed the audience to read each individual section and understand them thoroughly. For a full viewing experience please visit the following website and open the project named Taxonomy, thankyou. http://issuu.com/aidancooke
Name; Adam Cottam Focus; Vinyl Record Covers My collection of objects is a distinct gathering of different genres, styles and ages of music conformed into vinyl records. Some of th es e reco rds h ave been p a sse d d own to me f ro m my D ad an d they have set the foundations for the type of music I listen to and enjoy today. I chose to collect this set of items because they have influenced me so much in my life and are of some of my favourite singers and bands. To create a taxonomy of them and display them would have been boring, so, I decided to make them look completely different. I d e c i d e d t o m a k e t a x o n o m y o f s h a p e s a n d f i g u r e s c r e a t e d b y editing the original album covers. These would create interesting patterns and create something interesting to look at.

Frederick Coulton - French Wine Labels from 1979-2012 In the summer I went to visit my family in Provence, France. The house I stayed at has been in my family for over 300 years and sits directly in the middle of the Côtes du Rhône wine region of France. I’ve always been interested in the wine from that area and I wanted to collect some labels as memories from this part of the country. I vistied several vineyards and asked if I could have a few of their labels, old and new! I didn’t want to take labels from the bottle as I wanted to have these labels as if they were works of arts, or documents of wine from the past. I created a book that records my time in Provence. It includes photos of my visits to vineyards and all 30 wine labels in my collection. You can view the book on www.issuu.com/cardsharp
Lydia Czolacz - “Who Are You?” “Who Are You?” is a project that I decided to do starting in Summer 2013. The plan for this project was to be able to explore the way in which notes and letters written by other people are discarded in the streets across the UK. I collected anything with handwriting on ranging from appointment cards to even probation letters. I then analysed the person’s handwriting and came to a judgement of what type of person I think they are. I then created a document which I have displayed certain pages on the left. The full document can be found: issuu.com/lydiakrystynaczolacz.
Tom Davidson - Pórta Going through doors is a way of traveling, and travel is at the heart of this project. I began photographing doors over the Summer of 2013 when I was on holiday in Parga, North-western Greece. Taking the photos helped me to satisfy my curiosity with the unique culture surrounding the town, by coming across interesting looking doors and photographing them, it gave me a sense of fulfilment knowing I had captured a part of Greece. Back home in Manchester, I took photos of doors in some of the more desolate areas. I have always found it to be amazing, mysterious and disconcerting that a great city can find itself in such great distress, all the while surrounded by prosperity. This taxonomy of doors shows the contrast between two very different European places. I hope you enjoy looking at the photos and seeing for yourselves how something as simple as a door can narrate a great deal about a culture and it’s surroundings.
VINTAGE MAPS
旧地图
I collected my vintage maps when I went to the second hand market in Huddersfield. I wanted to create a body of design that could show you all the main features of the maps, such as the key, handwritten typography, and colour samples. Inspired by the Pantone colour booklets, I decided to make something similar, that encompassed all of the interesting features of the maps. I created thirty of these booklets, one for each of the maps I owned. I then decided I would name the collection of maps ‘The Macfarlane Collection’ because that is the name of the man who previously owned the majority of the maps. I am currently in the process of printing all thirty maps, and plan to photograph all the booklets hanging together on a wall. If you would like to see more details on the project, or any other projects I have completed, please visit my wordpress blog or my behance profile page on the addresses below. http://fiskdesign.wordpress. com/
Taxonomy
The ideology behind my project highlighted the ethical problems in the production of paper bus tickets and a suitability to develop a more ecological syst em in the form of a mobile application.
Rob Turner For my taxonomy project I collected 30 images of man hole covers. I am interested in the embossed shapes and patterns they all have. For my final piece I made a book comsisting of shapes that were extracted from the photos I collected. I used black and white to make the shapes visually sharper. I experimented with scale, repetition, and inversion to create interesting and alternative compositions.
