A Few Free Applications for the Wiimote Whiteboard Document Annotation: Jarnal is a free opensource application for notetaking and annotating documentx. Jarnal allows pdf files and images to be opened as a background that can then be written on or annotated. The original document can then be saved with the new notations. This is a great resource when examining / analyzing artwork, reading primary source documents, or walking through the solution of a math equation. Use this application in any situation where students will benefit from “seeing” how the teacher thinks, and how things are done. Students will then be able to refer back to that documented process later. Download: http://www.dklevine.com/general/software/tc1000/jarnal.htm
*** Webhosting for Jarnal annotated documents: 1. www.scribd.com – Allows for hosting of pdf documents with embed code for blogs. *** Image Presentation: 1. Cooliris – Turn your computer into a 3d gallery of images. Images can be previously saved or searched live from google, flickr or youtube. Scroll through images at lightening speed with the feel and appearance of scrolling through an ipod touch. www.cooliris.com Video of Application: http://blip.tv/file/2088827 2. Photosynth – Search for any image through photosynth & every image tagged with that particular term on the web will be “photosynthed” to turn hundreds of 2d images into one 3d representation. Take your students to locations around the world and let them explore multiple angles from these locations. www.photosynth.com Video of Application: http://blip.tv/file/2071076 TED Video: http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/blaise_aguera_y_arcas_demos_photosynth.html *** Interactive Polling: Poll Everywhere – Ask your students probing questions and have them respond live via text messaging. Enter a number of questions ahead of time and guide the discussion from the front of the room using the wiimote whiteboard. www.polleverywhere.com Video of this Application: http://blip.tv/file/2088827 *** Media & Mapping: This is mostly applicable to history classes, but could also work well in a science or math class. For a history class, download film clips for a topic and a map of the region being covered in the clips. Jump back and forth between the film clips and the map, making notations on the map that correspond to the material from the clip. This approach works well when teaching WWI & WWII. Video Clips: www.unitedstreaming.com or www.youtube.com (download using AnyVideoConverter) Download Map & open as a background in Jarnal to notate and resave with notations.
