ROOT MOISTURE GEL — I R R I G AT E M O R E E F F I C I E N T LY. I N C R E A S E R O O T M O I S T U R E W I T H L E S S W AT E R ! This gel is a granular, organic, superabsorbent horticultural hydrogel designed to increase the water holding capacity, drainage, and aeration of soils, sand, soilless, and synthetic growing media. Upon sufficient watering of the growing medium, which has received the proper rate of gel the special hydrogel granules transform themselves into small water-laden gel "chunks." From that point on, the gel chunks will act as "local water reservoirs." Over a period of time, the water from these reservoirs will be gradually released to the soil and plants as needed, or as the media changes its moisture equilibrium. The use of this gel can prevent root damage caused by lack of oxygen and carbon dioxide build up. Using root moisture gel improves the aeration and drainage of the growing media and helps produce healthier roots.
Transplanting Root Stock To protect the roots from drying, just dip your plant roots into a slurry of gel. The gel will cling to the roots and equip your plants with better survivability and emergence. For transplanting with this gel, all you need is a container to prepare the slurry and dip the roots.
Plug Planting Root moisture gel can be used effectively as an ingredient of the plug mix. Not only does it provide continuous moisture but it allows for easy filling of the plugs. The rates will vary according to the type of plugs, the amount of peat, and other ingredients used.

Black Kraft Paper - Planter’s Paper Mulch (Degrades in field) Many growers over the years have asked for an alternative to plastic mulch because of concerns about the environment and the labor requirement for field removal. It comprises most of the benefits of black plastic film and has other advantages. Although it does not have the stretchability of plastic, it will hug the soil and has strength for mechanical installation. It contains no harmful ingredients and leaves no harmful residues in the soil. However, the paper has a tendency to prematurely degrade along the edges where it is secured with a layer of soil. Due to expansion when wet and shrinkage when dry, the paper tends to tear along the edges at the soil line. Then the paper is subject to lifting by wind. Therefore, additional soil should be added periodically to the edges to secure the paper. When Planters Paper is used in limited quantities, the premature degradation can be reduced by the weighting the edges of paper with stones, bricks, etc. This method eliminates the soil along the edges. Olive Mulch Plastic (Embossed), Near Infrared Transmitting Olive is the latest development in plastic mulch technology. In a general sense, this new mulch is a “hybrid” between clear and black mulches. With clear mulch, all wavelengths of radiation (light) are transmitted through the mulch. The long wavelengths (infrared radiation) are converted to heat under the clear film and provide the greatest amount of soil warming of all mulches. However, photosynthetic active radiation (PAR) also is transmitted and is responsible for the vigorous weed growth under clear mulch. Because black mulch blocks PAR, weeds do not grow underneath. Soil warming occurs as the black mulch absorbs solar radiation, and then conducts the heat into the soil. Soil temperature under black is lower than under clear mulch. This is where Olive comes into the picture. By utilizing a carefully balanced blend of polyethylene with a specific light modifying pigment, Olive transmits near infrared radiation, and at the same time blocks PAR. Therefore, it simultaneously generates almost as much heat as clear mulch and suppresses weeds like black mulch. This is a win-win development for growers. BLACK/BLUE Mulch Plastic (Embossed) Plastic mulch is extruded from clear polyethylene resin into sheets of film of varying widths and lengths. In its natural state, plastic is clear, so carbon black is added to make it black. Generally, the thickness is 1.0 to 1.1 mil (1 mil = 1/1000 inch) although thinner materials are available in high density polyethylene. Because of the inherent physical properties of black plastic mulch, it modifies the micro-climate around plants, enhancing growth, yield, and quality of horticultural crops. Over many years of experimentation and use since the late 1950’s black plastic has proved to be a boost to agricultural productivity. Here are some of the advantages you can expect when using BLACK plastic: • Earlier and higher yields even though there will be variations from year to year. • Weed control. Because the mulch is black, light is not transmitted through the plastic and therefore weeds will not grow under the material. • Soil temperature increases 3° to 5°F under the mulch at soil depths of 2 to 6 inches. This is the area of greatest root growth early in the season. Warm roots grow faster and accelerate plant growth. • Evaporation of soil moisture is reduced. Plastic mulch is impervious to water. Red plastic mulch is a recent innovation in an effort to maximize reflected light on plant growth. From many studies on the effect of mulch color on plant growth, red has been found to enhance the growth and yield of several vegetable crops, including tomato. It is the color of the mulch that changes the intensity of certain wavelengths of light that in turn has an impact on plant growth and subsequent yields. Tomato yields have been as much as 20% higher with SRM-Red than with black plastic. Results, however, will vary from year to year. Red mulch reflects intensified red light to the developing plants which increases their photosynthetic capacity. There is more reflectivity early in the season when more of the mulch is exposed to light. SRM-Red a high quality, durable plastic that is 1.0 mil thick and lays well over flat or raised beds.
