Sabine FFA excels at Houston show

The Sabine FFA Chapter had a record setting year at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo which is the largest livestock show and competition in the nation. This year during the first round sophmore Ag Teacher Matt Byrd said “Houston is tough in fact it is the toughest show we compete in and to have students move above and beyond the average makes a statement. These young men and women spend a lot of time preparing for the show and to see the results makes an impact not only for student but for the families and school as well.” During the Ag Mechanics show this past weekend the Sabine FFA Chapter raised the bar once again, as 30 students left out of Liberty City headed for Houston not knowing what the results may be. They took six projects - a 26-foot lowboy gooseneck trailer, chicken coop, 14-foot utility trailer, 10-foot utility trailer, Livestock Crate, and a Welding Rig Trailer. On Sunday morning the final results were announced and Sabine ISD wound up with a record setting day. In the Livestock Equipment Class Caden Clifford, Collin Clifford, and Logan Tucker took home the overall 3rd place award out of 53 projects in that class. In the Lowboy Gooseneck Trailer Class seniors

Tyler Mustin, Logan Goley and Chance Lewis took home the overall 4th place award out of 30 trailers and in the Welding Rig Trailer Class Grant Stanberry, Justin Ray, Slate Wiseman, and Grant Key won 1st place with their custom welding trailer. “These are the years you dream of especially at that level. You’re against the best of the best at Houston going head to head with schools all over the state of Texas,” said Byrd. “Words cannot express the excitement and the energy going through this department right now. I love to see the students accomplish their goals and they now know that all the long hours and hard work and determination does pay off. We have a unique family here at Sabine ISD in fact the entire community gets behind these guys and supports them no matter if it is Academics, Athletics, Band, or whatever it may be we all work together and support each other and when the FFA comes back with a win from Houston you can rest assure these young men and women are recognized.” Spencer Franklin exhibited in the Market Barrow show and placed 10th overall in his class out of 67 head and landed in the sale which is a huge accomplishment considering only about the top 10-percent make sale out of 4,000 entries.

Peanut Butter needed at Manna House

FOR MANNA HOUSE

The need for food is year-round, so the Gladewater Mirror continues to be a drop-off point for the Gladewater Manna House. We believe no family should go hungry in this great country of ours. All that’s needed is for everyone to pick up 1 or 2 extra non-perishable items - like 16 oz. jar of peanut butter - the next time they are out shopping and drop the donation off at 211 N. Main St. We’ll do the rest!
