The Legend of Barney Thomson
Friday 30 October – Thursday 5 November GFT’s most popular film of the summer is back for your viewing pleasure. Director and star Robert Carlyle is joined by a brilliant cast including Ray Winstone, James Cosmo, Martin Compston, and Emma Thompson in an unforgettable performance as Barney’s bitterly callous mother. Carlyle is Barney, a middle-aged Bridgeton barber with no prospects and, crucially, no chat. When his smug boss (Stephen McCole) goes missing, the local police constable (Winstone) suspects a connection with a recent spate of ‘body parts murders’, and points the finger at the hapless Barney. Director Robert Carlyle Cast Robert Carlyle, Ray Winstone, Emma Thompson, UK/Canada 2015, 1h36m, 15

Moving away from a traditional, literal reflection of Thomas’ original work, the film explores some of the more visceral elements of the funny, filthy and magical dreamscape of the work, whilst staying faithful to Dylan Thomas’s original text. Director Kevin Allen Cast Rhys Ifans, Lisa Palfrey, Charlotte Church, UK 2014, 1h27m, subtitles, 15

Taxi Tehran
Friday 30 October – Thursday 5 November Virtuoso Iranian director Jafar Panahi (This Is Not a Film, The White Balloon) returns with his latest film from within a country that continuously attempts to suppress his voice. For this latest work, Panahi uses the device of a yellow taxi that drives through the streets of Tehran whilst the driver interviews various passengers. A simple premise, but one that reveals a startling amount – as Panahi’s camera is constantly on the move throughout the city, the driver, passenger and audience look outwards onto the streets and inwards at the nation’s troubled centre. Winner of the top award at Berlin Film Festival 2015. Specially commissioned programme notes will be available for this film. Director Jafar Panahi, Iran 2015, 1h22m, subtitles, CTBC

Outraged, she begins a rampage of revenge that takes her across the sun-scorched streets of downtown Los Angeles. Charlotte (Sophie Verbeeck) and Micha (Félix Moati) are young and in love. They’ve recently bought a house near Lille in which they intend to live happily ever after. So far so conventional. But all is not as it appears: they are both cheating on each other with the some woman, mutual friend Melodie (The New Girlfriend’s Anaïs Demoustier).

DOCUMENTARIES
The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution
Sunday 1 – Wednesday 4 November In the late 1960s, change was coming to America, whether the nation was ready for it or not. Focusing on the short and tumultuous existence of the titular organisation, documentarian Stanley Nelson bracingly brings the era to life, painting a portrait of a country united in name only – as cities burned, Vietnam exploded and fault lines became impossible to ignore. Often only referred to as a sidenote in the wider context of US history, the story of the Black Panthers is a formative chapter in the shaping of modern American culture, and here receives the full telling it deserves. Director Stanley Nelson, USA 2015, 1h56m, 15

Fresh Dressed is a fun and fascinating look at American hip-hop culture through the fashion that defined it, featuring in-depth interviews with luminaries such as Nas Jones, Pharrell Williams, Damon Dash and Kanye West, amongst many others.

Death of a Gentleman
Thursday 5 November (18.00) A full game of Test Cricket takes five days to play and is the purest form of the sport. However, it is in danger of being ousted in favour of its shorter, more financially viable cousin ‘Twenty20’. In this film, two fans join forces to try to save the sport they love; finding out how money has corrupted the sport of gentlemen along the way. This is a modern morality tale about a future where sport and money collide, and a final call that says if you care about something that is in danger, you need to do something about it. Introduced by Neil Clitheroe - a ‘slow’ fast bowler and even poorer batter. He discovered Death of a Gentleman on Test Match Special this summer and wanted to bring the film to cricket fans in Glasgow.

GFT Accessible Programme
GFT offers both Audio Description and captioning on selected titles and selected screenings. Audio Description is a service for partially sighted or blind people (AD headphones are available to collect from Box Office when you pick up your tickets prior to the film screening). Captioning is a service for deaf and hard of hearing audience members who rely on subtitling to enable them to follow the film’s dialogue.
Access Information GFT accepts the CEA Card. (www.ceacard.co.uk)
We can offer an infrared sound facility for the hearing-impaired (please ask at Box Office for a head set). There is disabled badge holders’ parking to the rear of the building in Cambridge Street. If you are a wheelchair user, please inform Box Office when booking. Guide dogs are welcome at GFT. Please contact our Manager (0141) 352 8603 or email dutymanager@glasgowfilm.org with your specific access enquiries.
A large print version of this brochure is available at Box Office. Due to circumstances beyond our control, occasionally we are unable to provide these accessible screenings. You are advised to check with Box Office.
