GFT is delighted to take part in the BFI’s national Thriller season, asking ‘who can you trust?’ with a nail-biting and suspense-filled season that promises to get your mind racing along with your pulse. Alongside classics from the genre, this season will feature a selection of titles from States of Danger & Deceit: European Political Thrillers in the 1970s, a touring season presented by HOME, Manchester. Supported by the BFI, awarding funds from The National Lottery. States of Danger and Deceit: European Political Thrillers in the 1970s The ideological turmoil that marked the late 1960s gave way in the 1970s to a more strident politics that involved stark contrasts between left and right, with both sides willing to act with violence for the changes they sought in society. Manchester’s HOME presents a selection of gripping titles from this moment, when European filmmakers turned to the format of the thriller to respond to the fractured politics of the time; exploring conspiracy theories, authoritarian regimes, and political violence.

Thursday 9 November (20.30) Re-released to celebrate its 30th anniversary, Predator is a genre-defining 80s classic. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Major Alan ‘Dutch’ Schaefer, the film follows a six-man team of elite soldiers who are tasked to rescue an official being held hostage by insurgents in the fictional country of Val Verde. However, the group soon become the target of a deadly extra-terrestrial warrior who slowly picks them off one-by-one for sport. Often copied but never bettered, with glorious action sequences and one-liners, Predator is still a must-see on the big screen.
