PROFILE 22’S OPTIMA SYSTEM SPECIFIED FOR COMMUNITY HUB IN LEEDS
Over 200 Optima windows and doors from Profile 22 were installed in an £11 million community hub in Leeds city centre.
Westerton Walk in Leeds city centre is an extra care housing development comprising of 63 one- and two-bedroom flats with care services, shared lounges and dining facilities. It has been built on a vacant Leeds City Council-owned site and has created a dynamic community hub. The project required 205 casement windows, residential doors, emergency doors, sliding doors and curtain walling. The system specified was Optima from Profile 22, the UK’s leading commercial window and door system. The contract to fabricate and install the windows and doors was awarded to Profile 22 Approved Contractor Kingfisher Windows, a leading manufacturer and supplier of windows, doors and conservatories for commercial and new build projects. Optima from Profile 22 is an award-winning fully integrated 70mm window and door system. The system comes with the widest range of ancillaries in the industry and a choice of colour options to support all property types. In this project, Anthracite Grey was used on external faces to provide an attractive appearance. Internally, a white finish was used to complement internal decoration. The system offers market-leading structural strength and security. When correctly specified, Optima casement windows are PAS24:2016 approved as standard. Secured by Design requirements can also be met where required. Such assurances were important for this project because deterring crime was a fundamental consideration.
Also important was thermal efficiency and Optima meets all requirements for thermal efficiency as standard. Thanks to its intelligent design as well as double and triple glazing options, thermal efficiency can be enhanced to meet a project’s specified standards, up to and including 0.8 W/m²K or A++. As an experienced contractor, Kingfisher Windows is used to working with new build developers on projects involving tight timescales on busy construction sites. The fabrication and installation process ran smoothly, despite the additional challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Jonny Reynolds of Kingfisher Windows commented: “We worked closely with all stakeholders and took extra precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved.”
Now complete, Westerton Walk will help to meet Leeds City Council’s ambition to provide up to 1,000 new extra care housing units by 2028. Jonny Reynolds said: “This was a great scheme to work on and the coloured frames we used have helped to create an attractive, distinctive development that is providing much-needed facilities and helping to regenerate Leeds city centre.” Tel: 0808 101 4143 – www.profile22.co.uk
HAFFNER LAUNCHES NEW MACHINE TO SUPPORT FABRICATORS WITH NEW PART F REGULATIONS
With the update to Part F ventilation regulations that is due to come into effect in June 2022, Haffner has launched its new MAC 145 Night Vent Router.
Dave Thomas, Chief Executive Officer at Haffner explains: “With the change to regulations as part of the Governments’ Future Home Standards, we have launched our new MAC 145 Night Vent Router to allow single or double routing on both PVC-U and aluminium profiles. This new innovative twin motor machine, will support fabricators routing profiles for trickle and night vents as they work to achieve the updated Part F ventilation requirements.” As you would expect from a Haffner machine, the innovation and technical excellence is evident at every level. The machine incorporates an intelligent barcode scanner which quickly reads and sets the machine for accurate single or double routing. The CNC machine is controlled by a Beckhoff PLC system and offers a 2.5 metre maximum routing capacity. The machine is capable of routing both sides in one automated operation to further improve manufacturing efficiencies and routing accuracy. Dave said: “The speed at which we have developed and bought the machine to market is nothing less than incredible and demonstrates the strength and capability of our design and manufacturing teams.” The machine will be one of a large selection of fabrication machinery on show at FIT 2022 from the Staffordshirebased business. Haffner, which recently increased its FIT stand space to a record 610sqm, will be showcasing a vast range of machines all designed to help fabricators at every level. It will also be the first ever fully seamless machinery stand in the UK because it will showcase the complete Graf Synergy range, as well as machinery from both Haffner and FOM ranges. Award-winning Haffner has been synonymous with quality fabrication machinery for many years and is the industry’s go-to machinery supplier. As a business that is ahead of the curve, the new MAC 145 Night Vent Router is yet another example of the company’s proactive approach to offering the machines that fabricators need.
Dave concludes: “As a business, we pride ourselves on offering the largest machinery range to help fabricators of all sizes and solve their day-to-day problems. The amendments to Part F have caught many fabricators by surprise but the new MAC 145 Night Vent Router is a machine that will help them to accurately deliver this new requirement as well as free up capacity on their existing machining centres.” Tel: 01785 222421 www.haffnermurat.com
ALL NEW COMPOUND CUT TWIN HEAD SAW FROM EMMEGI
Emmegi’s popular Compound Cut 9-axis twin head saw has been given a complete redesign and upgrade, with new electronics and advanced safety features added to put it firmly ahead of the competition.
It is now the only fully enclosed and soundproofed 9-axis compound saw available in the UK, with many of the design features familiar to users of Emmegi’s Precision range of twin head saws. The new Compound Cut has 600mm wide blades which move in two directions. On the horizontal axis, it can cut from 45° inwards to 22°30’ outwards and on the vertical axis it can cut from 0° to 45°. The movement of each blade is controlled via a combination of high precision gear motor and brushless motor with absolute encoder.
For fabricators of curtain walling, the size and scale of the saw and the blade feed on two axes means it can cut profiles up to 525mm high and 225mm wide, with optimal adjustment of both the blade stroke and exit speed. The 4+4+1 clamp set-up provides for maximum stability to deliver an extremely precise cut. If special cuts are required, users can opt for a system of patented clamp devices which allow for vertical clamping. There is also a roller conveyor on the middle head for standard loading and unloading and pneumatic supports for smooth operation. Controlled by Emmegi’s user-friendly Emmegisoft software which makes it easy to programme cutting lists, it comes with a 10in touchscreen interface with full colour display.
