Sometimes, when you get the things you want, you are surprised to learn how hard it is to have them.

But every now and then, instead of being a martyr, you feel pangs of gratitude: for a partner who is painting your new home, for an orange cat sleeping in a circle by the window, for enough time to rest, for a yoga class on a hot, dark evening, windows open, lights turned low, lying with legs up the wall, silence, and a little boy who is awake and kicking.
