You Said It Re: The Australian Bushman (GC&M News December 16)
I would like to commend Jamie Hazleden on the success of his local business and his TV show on Off Road Touring. While Jamie may have a love of the outdoors and camping, and a desire to share the ‘spectacular beauty’ of our country with others, perhaps he could consider doing this in other ways than taking 4WD vehicles into National Parks! National Parks are for conservation and should be quiet and peaceful places for appreciation of natural beauty, flora and fauna. I fail to see how motorised vehicles of any kind could be respectful of the natural environment in National Parks. As a member of a regular bush walking group in both the Glasshouse Mountains National Parks and the state forests adjoining them, I am appalled at the ever increasing damage caused by 4WD vehicles and trail bikes. Locked gates are no barrier and no longer exist anywhere. Fire trails are in many cases untrafficable. The mountain views of this area are without comparisonacross this country. Together with the unique flora and fauna, the Glass House Mountains are important to the Eco Tourism industry of the Sunshine Coast. Sadly vehicular damage is ablight on our beautiful landscape and extremely damaging to our rare and endemic plant species. We need to ‘lock the gates’ again and hope regeneration may occur in perhaps 50 years! Take your tour group for a walk Jamie and you may find you enjoy that more! Gwen Malcolm Glass House Mountains

Really annoyed
While I understand that the owners of the Beerwah Marketplace are desperate to get tenants into their shops, I am not happy at all that Banjos, a large bakery café, will be going in outside Woolworths. This approach seems very unfair to the existing tenants.Clearly they are not concerned about protecting their interests and also that of the Beerwah township. I believe local residents should unite in our support of the many great small local businesses to help ensure their survival. Janine Rea Beerburrum DECEMBER 22 2015 |
