Furniture, ride-on mower trailer, clothes - lots more! Look out for the signs out front NOTICE: Fiona – you might notice that your garage sale notice is a little different than when you spoke with us. We had problems with our system which crashed and we lost the details – including the street address and your phone number to contact you back on. We remembered as much as we could and have placed the ad for free. On the morning, if you put a sign at the start of your road and out the front of your house, it should be OK as people will easily see where you are. Sorry about that – we did try to find you – even calling people we know from the area asking if they knew a Fiona.

Fun in the rain This year's Beerwah Charity Sports was a wet affair. While the horse section had to be cancelled, we waived the entry fee and urged people to come down to the grounds, enjoy the activities which could go ahead, and grab a bargain from the stalls. Thanks to all those good supporters who braved the weather and ensured that the sports day was not completely washed out. It was good to see so many people enjoying themselves, with our new feature the Strong Man and Woman Competition, being a huge success. A big thank you must go to the volunteer workers who cheerfully persevered in the rain to make the best of the wet conditions, and ensured that we still raised a substantial amount for CCQ. An example of the generous support from our local community was the cake stall, which raised over $900.00 from home baking, donated to support this worthy cause. Leading up to the day, the Committee was confident that with the interest shown in all areas we were on track for a record Charity Sports Day - if only the weather had been kind. However one can't be disappointed when we so badly needed the rain. Thanks again from the Committee to all volunteers, supporters, and to the business community for their generous support in sponsoring all sections of the program. Results of raffles and competitions will follow over the next couple of weeks, and the fund-raising outcome as soon as it is finalised.

Beerwah RSL Club I refer to the situation confronting the Beerwah RSL Club. I made comments in the letters pages at the time of the eviction and stand by those comments. Recent contributions, containing factual inaccuracies, overlook a number of important factors. One of these is the reasons why the Returned & Services League operates Clubs. Namely, to provide a social meeting place, but importantly to generate a cash flow to fund welfare services for returned and ex-service persons. To this end the Beerwah / Peachester RSL Sub-Branch conducts a welfare service, operated by volunteers, whose clients include aged and infirm WW2 veterans, unwell ex-service men and women and recently returned from Afghanistan former ADF members. This service provides pensions advocacy and general welfare services, the operating costs of which are not insignificant. If the Club were unable to continue, it would be extremely difficult or impossible to maintain this service. Another factor is a group for whom nobody speaks - the Club staff. Good people doing a great job running the Club very well. In the event of closure, they would all lose their jobs. The current Sub-Branch committee cannot alter the course of events, driven by personal agendas, which led to the decision to evict, but have to deal with the situation as it exists now. It would be a pity if despite their best efforts the Club were to close. Community support can keep it going but recriminations and finger pointing achieve nothing.
