On the cover

This week’s cover positively beams with the faces of Denise and Bruce Morcombe nominated for the Queensland’s Australian of the Year Awards. Photo supplied courtesy of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

HI Everyone

This edition is replete with stories of commemorations, celebrations, reminiscences and nominations. From the Beersheba Day service in Woombye to the Sunshine Coast Day for Daniel in the Walk for Daniel from Woombye to Palmwoods to the nomination of Bruce and Denise as Queensland’s Australians of the Year. Nominees seem to rule in our readership with a Palmwoods teacher having been shortlisted in the national teaching awards and other nominees represented at the coast’s own Multicultural Excellence Awards (story in our following edition). We have also witnessed a large community convergence with the Big Pineapple opening to the public in its early stage of redevelopment through its festive Saturday outdoor and indoor markets. There’s certainly something big in the Big Pineapple Corp Pty Ltd plans to make our largest icon a beacon for agri-tourism.

Need a mascot created?

Jono Hooper, creator of the Dog and Selwyn too! cartoon series seen in SV News is looking for opportunities to expand his creative abilities and serve businesses with his work, whilst studying for a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Environmental Science) at USC. Jono has been drawing cartoons for several years now, and was recently asked to draw a mascot for an entrant in a Camp Quality car rally which really wet his appetite for similar work including graphic design. Stimulated by this work, Jono purchased an Adobe suite featuring several of the graphic design programs available and is looking for an opportunity for part-time work in this field. Designing websites is another area in which Jono is looking to develop and expand on current abilities after creating one for his cartoons and others for family and friends. Although drawing mascots is an ability Jono has, he is continuing to develop skills in both graphic and website design and is enthusiastic to learn what he needs to meet the specific requirements of those looking for someone keen and creative to design something for themselves or their business. Please contact him at jono@dogandselwyntoo.com if you are interested.

Woombye $10,000 Bowls carnival getting ready to roll

When you’ve got a good idea, sometimes it pays to just roll with it. That was the thought that came to Woombye Men’s Fours $10,000 bowls carnival organiser, Ian Hatch in 2005. The Woombye Men’s Fours $10,000 carnival sees 24 teams of four take each other on in a round robin tournament over three days, and it has become a firm fixture in November and a highlight of the bowls calendar on the coast, not only for its attractive prize money, but for the quality of play lawn bowls enthusiasts have come to enjoy and expect. “I just wanted to spark the interest of bowlers across the coast and put Woombye Bowls Club on the map and I knew prize money like that was unheard of on the Sunshine Coast,” Ian said. “We had our fair share of critics saying a club our size couldn’t pull it off, and here we are about to host the tournament for another year. It’s become a great success.” Ian is also chairman of the Woombye Bowls Club and is proud of the club’s 65 year history. “We opened in 1947 and have about 75 members now and everyone works hard throughout the year to continue being a strong and valued part of the Woombye community. There’s a lot of support for each other in our town and we needed that when the idea of putting together the tournament came to me. “To host a tournament of this quality, you need a great green keeper, club volunteers and sponsors. We’re proud to have all that, and to have sponsorship again this year.” One of the tournament sponsors is the Woombye Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank. “They’ve donated $1,000 this year and we’re delighted to have them on board again. Sally Baker and her team have been marvellous and this is one of many ways we continue to work with each other, so we’re very grateful,” Ian said. The Woombye Men’s Fours $10,000 bowls carnival takes place from November 11-13, contact Woombye Bowls Club on 5442 1480.

Deserved nominees for Queensland Australian of the Year

by Sandra Conte

The Day for Daniel has passed, with nearly 2000 participants taking part in the Sunshine Coast Walk for Daniel from Woombye to Palmwoods. This poignant commemoration, in a sea of red shirts, will continue to be central to the community’s calendar. While there is the mixture of both relief and grief that the sheer hard work the Morcombe family, the Foundation, Police and volunteers have undertaken has been fruitful towards laying Daniel to rest, we use this opportunity to salute these devoted parents, Denise and Bruce

Sue Soddington of Grangers Shoex

Morcombe, who are more than deserved of the nomination for Queensland’s Australian of the Year Award. Words are sometimes not enough so we bring you photos that show their support for the day when Nambour shop owners painted the town red out of respect and support for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and its unfailing work in its education program and awareness raising about child safety.

through the gates each year of the tourist icon - which reflects a large component of the Australian population”. The excitement and energy was palpable at Saturday’s event and if the sunny faced growers, stallholders and market goers are anything to judge by, the renewed lease of life at the tourist icon promotes nothing but promise in the produce. Not only has the Big Pineapple structure itself had a makeover, complete with the greenest pineapple top seen in a long time, the clean-up of its interior has been undertaken sensitively so as not to detract from the integrity of the displays. As the granddaughter of a Hunchy pineapple farmer, all I can say is thanks a million to the modest millionaires who have joined forces to restore the sense of place and promote a vision embedded in family values and agri- tourism. General manager Paul Ziebarth has handled the Market-goer Jennifer Casey preparations for the day with aplomb and a big and joint owner of the Big gong also goes to market manager Helen Langlois for the hard work to ensure such a professional Pineapple Brad Rankin outcome on the first day. So remember, get on down to the Big Pineapple next Saturday between 6.30 and 12.00 noon, where you will find the best local produce and a healthy convergence point for all people. You can introduce your children to a parfait, reminisce over great coffee ‘from them thar hills’ of Montville, and stock up on a variety of locally produced food fare. You might also purchase a slice of the history of the pineapple plantation with the book on sale, authored by local Kerry Local author Kerry Brown with Brown.

The Big Pineapple Markets kicked off their first day as a hive of activity with 1000 people through the gates at 8.00am and a total of 2088 by 9.30am, as reported by Big Pineapple Corp Pty Ltd joint owner Brad Rankin. With a flair for statistics, Brad explains. “In past decades one million people were passing

OUT & About

Sunfest success

Contributed by Tammy Donlen, Principal’s personal assistant

What a night! Suncoast Christian College’s annual fundraiser, Sunfest, went off without a hitch recently with the college community working together to create a fantastic family night out. The rain held off for what was a perfect, balmy night allowing families to enjoy the entertainment, rides, and stalls on offer. The quality of entertainment was exceptional with the Best Original Song competition judges, media personality Jamie Dunn and Mark Higgins from Shake It Up Music, having a difficult time choosing winners for the different age categories. Meanwhile the food court was bustling as people deliberated over the many mouthwatering choices. The fireworks grand finale was a fitting end to a great night enjoyed by all.

80th Birthday gala a hit!

Local business says thanks

Contributed by Di O’Brien

Palmwood’s Bowls Club’s 80th birthday gala day went off with a bang on Saturday. Lots of people had fun on the green, enjoyed the music, dancing, face painting and wonderful display of classic cars – our thanks to everyone. Special thanks to Donna (Don’s Bistro) and her team who fed us all. Many wanted to know when we would be doing it all again, so watch this space and we will let you know! The winner of the Monster Raffle was ticket #0160 M. Roy congratulations and thanks to everyone who supported the raffle. Thanks also to all the Palmwoods members and bowlers who helped make the day such a great success. However it would be remiss of me not to single out our Lady president Del Casey who worked tirelessly and relentlessly to get the show on the road ( must also acknowledge her very tolerant husband – thanks Norm) and Phil Gins our Operations Manager for chasing up the generous sponsorship from the Craig Stephens representing the XXXX Group. My personal thanks to Sunshine Valley News for their great coverage of our special day.

The owners of Brady’s Fruit Market, Colin and Sandra, would like to let their loyal customers know how much they appreciate their on-going support and once again this year they have a fabulous competition in place that will do just that. Customers who shop in-store between Thursday, November 10 and Saturday, December 10 will be able to fill in an entry form and place it in the draw to win one of three great prizes. Third prize is product to the value of $100.00, second prize is product to the value of $200.00 and first prize is product to the value of $1000.00. And if you are one of the lucky winners, you have a whole year to spend your prize. Palmwoods Community Branch - Community Grants at Work Recently Palmwoods Community Branch of Heritage Building Society gave away over $160,000 to local groups/organisations. Over the next few editions we will be showcasing what that cash means to each and every one of these groups and their members.

Palmwoods Cricket Club - $10,000 Palmwoods Cricket Club asked for funds to purchase some new mowers to assist with Ground and Wicket maintenance. Specifically they required a wide cut mower to reduce the time taken to mow the field at the Sportsground. David Robertson from the Cricket Club said “with the old mower it took up to 4 hours to mow the field each week. With this new one we have it knocked over in under 3 hours. Plus we purchased a new Wicket mower and this provides us with a much improved surface for playing on. The funds we received from Heritage Palmwoods have been a great benefit to all Cricket Club members and I would encourage all our members to get in and support Heritage at Palmwoods because they really are making a huge contribution to our community.”

Eudlo State School P&C - $10,000 Eudlo State School P&C asked for funds to replace and improve some of their musical equipment. Specifically new Violins and other stringed instruments. They have now purchased this and already had a couple of performances using their new equipment. Principal Ian Webb said “The children are over the moon with the new equipment. We have a large music program at Eudlo and this funding from the Palmwoods community Branch of Heritage Building Society has proven to be the shot in the arm our music classes needed. When we found out we were approved we couldn’t believe that a business from our community could be so generous. We now have equipment that is brand new and the children are champing at the bit to use it. We can’t thank Heritage at Palmwoods enough for their generous support and we suggest all Eudlo families get in and utilise the Heritage Branch at Palmwoods because the more we use them, the more money they will have to give back.

Men’s Shed - On your bike In the lead-up to the festive season, some members of the Sunshine Valley Men’s Shed have recently got on their bikes … literally. Thanks to a generous donation by Bike Riders of Maroochydore, the men now have 21 secondhand bicycles (kids’ and adults’), which they hope to have refurbished in time for Christmas. Thanks also to the Woombye & Districts Branch of the Bendigo Bank for their donation that will be used for parts. The best of the bikes will be given away as prizes in a children’s competition – open to all children in the Sunshine Valley News area. To be eligible, children should not already own a bike, and should write in, explaining in 30 words or less why they would like to win one. Entries should be addressed to the Sunshine Valley Men’s Shed, PO Box 190, Woombye, Q 4559, and all entries must be received by Friday, December 2. The name and contact details of a parent or guardian should be included with each entry. Details of the presentation of bikes to the winners will be included in the following edition of SV News published on December 9. So, if you would like to win a bike, get writing … and start pedalling!

Adopt-A-Family

Palmwoods teacher named in Awards

Christmas comes early at Heritage Community Branch Palmwoods with the Palmwoods Community Branch of Heritage Building Society once again participating in the Adopt-A- Family campaign this Christmas. This program, run by The Salvation Army, provides much needed groceries and gifts to less fortunate families at Christmas time. This is the sixth year Heritage staff, members and the wider community of Palmwoods have assisted local families through the auspices of this charity. Last year’s family sent a letter of thanks which read: To Todd and Team and the wonderful Palmwoods Community, THANK YOU – You have given us Joy and hope in times of hardship and thanks to your generous Christmas Spirit we had tears of joy and thanks instead of despair. Branch Manager Todd English said the letter of thanks highlighed what this program is all about. “Locals helping locals in times of need, and that is what the Palmwoods Community Branch is about also. This is a great initiative of the Salvation Army and my team and I are eager to support it once again,” Todd said. “Our Christmas tree is already up in the Branch with our donation bins underneath it. We encourage all members of the community, not just Heritage members, to drop in and put something in the bins, it can be as simple as a can of baked beans, it all helps.” To kick things off, the directors of the Palmwoods Community Branch have donated $250.00 of groceries and gifts to this worthy cause. For further information contact Todd, Sophia, Rachelle, David or Kara at the branch on 5457 3344.

Palmwoods State School teacher, Tania Schaller, was recently shortlisted as one of 568 finalists from across Australia in the NEiTA (National Excellence in Teaching Awards) chosen from the 1401 Australian nominations Tania received this year. With the theme ‘Teachers Count’, the NEiTA 2011 ASG Inspirational Teaching Awards called for nominations from Australian communities for inspirational teachers and leaders. “Being nominated was very surprising but also a little bit exciting,” Tania said. “It was nice to know that members of the school community took the time to complete the nomination process, especially considering how little spare time many people have today. Being shortlisted was a big surprise.” “There are so many people in the teaching profession who go above and beyond anything that is expected of them, and who contribute so many things in so many ways. It was just humbling to realise that there are people in our community who acknowledge and appreciate the work teachers do in schools today and value our contribution to their children’s lives,” she said. “I see my nomination and shortlisting as recognition for the great work that my wonderful colleagues at Palmwoods State School are doing on a daily basis”. While Tania was not a recipient of the final awards, she is a strong advocate for developing community relationships/partnerships within the school environment. The students and staff at Palmwoods are proud of Ms Schaller making it through to the finals as their champion teacher representative.

Letters to the Editor

Time running out for public submissions

I would like to draw your attention to a development application over land at 521 Chevallum Road Chevallum (the Turf Farm) situated less than 300 metres away from Chevallum State School and immediately next to the Chevallum strawberry fields. The application from what I understand, if approved, will have a significant impact on the school and surrounding properties. The council has called for public submissions to be made with respect to the application before November 18, 2011. My understanding of the situation is as follows: Another application was originally made by a developer to Council but the Council refused the application. The developer then fought that decision in the Land and Environment Court (LEC) and won approval to construct a 58 Lot industrial development on the land which is situated next to the Strawberry fields at Chevallum. (This development will feed large trucks and B-doubles onto Chevallum Rd just east of the school). The Council’s intent for the land was essentially for business and industry (light industry) uses but what these developers obtained from the LEC it seems was essentially an approval for core (heavy industry) uses as well. As a general rule this type of category may include things like cement plants, chemical works, acid manufacturing, explosive manufacturing and storage, battery smelters, and the list goes on. Under the LEC approval each business seeking to build on the developed land would have to make an Impact Assessable Application to Council. This type of application gives the community the right to make submissions to the Council at the time of application as to the appropriateness or otherwise of the proposed development on that land by that business. Each business seeking to use that land would also need to address all of the environmental issues and justify how their type of industry would not have a detrimental impact on those sensitive environs. The application currently before Council is requesting that the planning scheme be rewritten by Council so that each application made by such groups be Code Assessable (thus preventing the school and the community from having their say as the appropriateness or otherwise of the intended development of that land in the future) and also reducing their requirement to demonstrate how their type of industry would not have a detrimental impact on the environment. This is my layman’s understanding of the situation. I feel this application is totally inappropriate and not in keeping with Councils intent for the area and certainly not in keeping with the preservation of the local environment which we have come to appreciate and enjoy. It also concerns me that it is situated so close to the Chevallum Strawberry fields. If the developers were to get this application approved I fear that the school and community would lose the opportunity to have open discussion and input into whether future industrial developments on that land were reasonable and appropriate for the area and our local community. Community awareness of these matters helps to foster open discussion which I feel can bring about positive and responsible change. We have limited time remaining however to raise this awareness and engender discussion. People can contact Tim Mumford from Council to make submissions if they wish to have their say. Alan Wheeler, Chevallum

If you’re taking your beloved pet to the vet for a check-up, or away with you on your family holiday, you need to make sure they’re secured properly in your vehicle. Pets must not be unrestrained in either the front or back seats of any vehicle. A special pet harness can be attached to your vehicle’s seatbelt that allows pets to sit or lie on the seat. Harnesses can be purchased from the RSPCA or pet stores and are available in a variety of

sizes. Smaller pets can also be transported in pet carriers. Pets can also be put in the back of a station wagon with a cargo barrier that complies with Australian standards. Dogs should not ride unrestrained in the back of trucks or trailers. They should be tethered to a short chain attached to a central anchor point with a swivel on the floor behind the cabin. The other end of the chain should be attached to the dog’s collar by a swivel point to prevent tangling. If you have an animal on your lap while driving, you’re not only risking their safety and yours, but you also risk an A$233.00 fine. So make sure your best friend is properly secured and can safely enjoy their journey with you.

Fleecing the competition A Sunshine Coast Alpaca breeder took two national fleece championships at the recent Nnational Australian Alpaca show in Sydney. Our local alpaca wool grower/breeder astounded the larger southern studs by winning two of the six awarded age champion huacaya fleeces. A total of 272 of the best alpaca fleeces in Australia were before the judges along with over 600 animals for the National Show at Sydney Olympic Park in October 2011. These ultra-fine winning fleeces from Sunline Alpacas, of Palmwoods, were in the junior and the intermediate sections for fleeces from animals between six to 12 months and 12

to18 months. Sunline Alpacas stud manager Jeff Willis who skirted and classed these fleeces, declared it a big win for Queensland breeders who too often play second fiddle to the big money studs. “It is a shot in the arm for all the work that has gone into our breeding program to see the youngsters now mixing it in top company. We have also managed to reduced our herd average by almost two micron over the last six years.” Alpaca wool is similar to merino but has a softer, more luxurious feel and lustre to it. The ‘Fibre of the Gods’ is a name that came to Australia in 1989 with these animals from the alti-plano region of South America. The demand for fine quality alpaca wool garments is growing steadily and there are now in excess of 150 alpaca breeders in Qld and northern NSW. Further info on alpacas is available on http://qld.alpaca.asn.

Botanical names of plants are used to help avoid confusion created by several plants using the same common name, but occasionally the classification of a plant can lead to more confusion for the home gardener than common names. A great example of this is a plant most of us know as the Paper or Everlasting Daisy. The genus has had four names since it was first described in 1803 with many species drifting in and out of the club as studies intensified. Starting as Helichrysum bracteatum, in 1991 it was reclassified as Bracteantha bracteata, a name under which it is still marketed today. However, one year before that classification, Russian botanist Nikolai Tzvelev had assigned it the name Xerochrysum bracteatum which is currently the plant’s official botanic name. Fortunately this confusion has no impact on the plants growth or popularity with cultivars receiving awards around the world. The strawflower is a member of the Asteraceae or daisy family and can be found growing naturally in most regions of Australia except the tropics. It is best known for the stunning flowers which retain their colour even when removed from the plant and dried. The flower head is surrounded by layers of stiff paper like bracts which are a modified leaf, not a petal. It can be treated as either an annual or perennial depending on the region it is grown. Modern varieties are often more compact than their wild or seeded cousins. This is a particularly drought tolerant plant making it useful to the gardener who does not water their garden. Plant out in full sun into well drained, slightly acidic soil. Dead-head throughout the flowering season to ensure bushiness and more blooms. If grown as a perennial, prune back old woody growth early in winter.

Caloundra South development

This has been a big issue over the past six months or so and it is something that will affect the whole of the Sunshine Coast, not just Caloundra. In addition to being very concerned as to how the Pumicestone Passage will be protected, I am worried that the Government refuses to build the necessary infrastructure to compliment the development, namely the rail duplication, CAMCOS and the upgrade of the Bruce Highway between Caloundra and the Sunshine Motorway. The Government also needs to fast track the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in the same way they have fast tracked this development. Without the hospital, our already stretched health services will break with the increase in population.

Make your business ‘Eco-Efficient’

Businesses and community groups that are looking to improve their environmental performance and profitability should consider joining an ecoBiz Cluster. This program is an introduction to the financial benefits of eco-efficiency and is a gateway to ongoing sustainable business practices. For example, a Climatesmart business representative may still be able to help interested groups to apply for the Community Solar Grant program that closes on November 30, 2011.

Student Christmas art compeition

You might recall last year that I held a friendly art competition where I invited local school students to submit an entry to feature in my 2010 electorate Christmas card. This year we are doing things a little differently with the winning entries being displayed in a special Christmas edition of my eNewsletter. The eNewsletter will be sent to people on my contact list in mid December so if you would like to get a copy make sure you register by filling in your details in the ‘Keep Informed’ section of my website www.andrewpowell.com.au. 12

Chevallum State School

I would like to retract an early statement made in the column regarding Chevallum State School. I have since been informed that Chevallum State School is not a demonstration school for the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation. It would appear that Bulimba State School is the only demonstration school in Queensland.

Palmwoods School Road, Palmwoods – pedestrian crossing Council has received requests to improve the safety of school pedestrians along Palmwoods School Road. It was identified that an additional formalised pedestrian crossing is required including disability compliant ramps. As such, council will undertake work to construct a flagged pedestrian crossing opposite the primary school on Palmwoods School Road, Palmwoods. To ensure the crossing meets current standards, it is necessary to remove six parking bays on the northern side of the street for visibility purposes and restrict car parking on the southern side between Old Orchid Drive and 6 Palmwoods School Road shown through the use of yellow lines. The work is programmed to commence the week beginning November 7, and completion anticipated within one week (weather permitting). During construction, property access may be affected for short durations. Council officers will contact residents, where relevant, to discuss timing for access or parking if work is likely to block entrances. Your patience during construction is appreciated. Traffic management measures will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

Palmwoods Bowls Club Contributed by Di O’Brien

Sorry folks, last issue’s report is still somewhere in cyberspace, so apologies from me. So will start with some past results. The Red Bridge pairs saw Graham Goody and myself win the restaurant vouchers from our very generous sponsors Red Bridge Motor Inn on the Nambour Connection Road at Woombye, they support us so if you are looking for a good meal close to home give them a call. Phil Rochow and Brian Tindall were the runners up. The nominated 2 Bowl Triples game winners were Jan Goody, Dorothy and Harry Clewett while last Friday’s nominated pairs went to Rick Paris and Jan Goody with a 2 +36 with Max McLaren and Claudia Cartwright with a +13. The last prawn pairs game was won by Percy Kay and Dominic Sheridan and the inaugural Peter Carter Pairs on Sunday, October 30 went to Rob Collins and Jeffrey Mitchell aka “Mullet” – great job boys! The handicap singles has seen some great matches with Kerry Clapham charging toward the pointy end of the competition (go girl power) but unfortunately there are some early round games still to be played and this is holding up the competition. Our championship games director Geoff Brown will be taking a serious look this week at the matches still to be played, so please get on the green and get them done. AER Pairs got off to a shaky start with a couple of

teams having to pull out, but we were eventually represented by Lynn and Rick Paris at the regional finals played at Bribie Island where the eventual winners were Pine Rivers who went on the national finals. Jan Goody, Marguerite Elliot, Norma Main and Sylvia Hollins had the Palmwoods flag flying high in Gympie a couple of weeks ago taking out the Gympie two day fiesta. With only two teams winning their five games it was a great effort. Well done girls! And congratulations to Geoff Brown who has now added a national title to his name as a member of the successful Queensland “Over 60s” team or aka 2011 Australian Senior Sides championship played at the Warilla Bowls Club in NSW. As if that wasn’t enough he was also named Man of the Series! Well done Geoff we are proud to claim you as a member of the Palmwoods Bowls Club. The night pennants competition has been underway for a couple of weeks now with mixed results. Out first game against Mooloolaba was played at ‘The Beach’ where we lost 3-2 with only our mixed pairs and triples combinations getting up. This week was against Caloundra at home where we won 4-1, with our fours going down in a tough fight. Next week we are back to The Beach against The Beach so good luck to all our teams. So if you happened to miss our open day, don’t let that stop you – give us a call and we would be delighted to welcome you to the ‘Other Licensed Venue in Town’ and the addictive sport of lawn bowls. Or you can just come down this Sunday November 13 at 10.00am for some free coaching and a game. See you there. Membership Draw: Still hasn’t gone off …. Now $800+ Upcoming Events: Friday, November 11, Jackpot Triples, Club Select Saturday, November 12, Prawn Pairs, 9.30am start, mufti Friday, November 18, Red Bridge Pairs, Club Select Weekend November 19/20, Pennant Zone final Friday November 25, nominated 2 bowl triples November 19/20 for SEQ at Coolum Beach.

Woombye Bowls Club Contributed by Dennis Nevin

The Woombye annual $10000.00 Invitation Mens Fours bowls competition commences this Friday November 11 with two games on Friday, three on Saturday and two on Sunday. This event could not be held without the support of the many sponsors who will be recognised over the weekend. The players vying for the top prize money include world champion Kelvin Kerkow who will be playing for a local team. Michael Brown and other state representatives will be at Woombye for anyone who wishes to watch top bowls. The public is welcome to come down anytime to watch the bowls and to enjoy the club amenities. The ‘Woombye Legends’ hosted another successful morning of bowls on Sunday with the green full of experienced and new bowlers taking to the greens. The idea behind this concept is to encourage new bowlers into the club in a game where it is not all about winning but playing and enjoying with the result basically a raffle draw at the end. The winners were S.Littelow, Keith Marrett, Ian Hatch and Col Johns. With runners up being Heinz, M.Littlelow,Alan Hill and Michael Byrne. The games director has some mixed competition on the board that must be dealt with so all those involved should make an endeavour to get their games out of the way. Nominations are called for super challenge which commences about January 11, 2012 so players interested should write their names on the board. Di’s Bistro is a big hit on Friday nights with great prices and many specials. Players can also participate in the Friday night bowls and the great raffles. The message is get down and support your local Bowls Club.

TAURUS [April 21 - May 21] This full Moon week is an effective agent in bringing new awareness you’re your personal self worth. There is a huge emotional rapport with others as the emphasis is in the 7th house of your chart. So new people with radical ideas transforms your point of view. Highly emotional. GEMINI [May 22 - June 21] The full Moon in the sign of Taurus continues your desire for inner peace, but matters concerning overseas visitors to your home need practical attention to avoid getting into a mad panic. Bring a quiet spiritual approach to an edgy family scene. Lots of mental stimulus. CANCER (June 22 - July 22] This full Moon points to emotional situations in connection with a friend or loved one. Let people know your feelings. Do so in a clear non critical way, to avoid giving the wrong impression. Demonstrate your executive ability. Make careful investments after talks with advisors. LEO [July 23 - August 22] This full Moon week brings a challenge of being organized into your professional responsibilities. With Mars moving into Virgo there is the need to work hard on practical matters. Stability to your life returns under the security driven full Moon and into your money/career zone. VIRGO (August 23 – September 22) The full Moon is normally a highly emotional time for most people but particularly this week with the addition of the master number date 11/11/11, you will note that there are strong memories of past situations which only come up at this time. A need to find new friendships.

LIBRA [September 23 - October 22] The emotional numbers that carry the 11th hour of the 11th week this month remind you to conserve your time and energy, properly, in material concerns. A dependable, calming partner wants to lay out a practical plan with you, with long term potential. A good cash bonus. SCORPIO [October 23- November 22] With the emphasis of the full Moon in Taurus this week you should have success through leadership resulting from a new personal contact and changes to new products. Display optimism and courage as these are dependable anchors for you. It’s OK to tell others what you want. SAGITTARIUS [November 23 - December 22] This full Moon being in the sign of Taurus, feels as if you should make special visits to contact those in hospital or invalids that you could assist. This is an emotional week but you achieve the greatest success by patching up old misunderstanding, clearing away life’s debris. CAPRICORN [December 23 - January 19] This full Moon in your compatible sign of Taurus brings secure comfort to your house of pleasure, love and fun. Your own inner child brings joy to all children around you. As Mars enters the physical skills of Virgo you feel that you must enjoy playing childish games. AQUARIUS [January 20 - February 19] This week the security driven Taurus full Moon brings the fact that home is the best and most comfortable place to be. This is a nice personal counter point to all the time demanded by others in their professional fields. Mars entering methodical Virgo reviews finances. PISCES [February 20 - March 20] This Taurus full Moon week is in your zone of communications so local activities will provide you with practical information. You may be very psychic on 11/11/11, a special day. Partners may push you to get more done, or do things more precisely. Implement beneficial ideas.

Teething problems…. A Pastor goes to the dentist for a set of false teeth. The first Sunday after he gets his new teeth, he talks for only eight minutes. The second Sunday, he talks for only 10 minutes. The following Sunday, he talks for two hours and 48 minutes. The congregation had to mob him to get him down from the pulpit and they asked him what happened. The Pastor explained the first Sunday his gums hurt so bad he couldn't talk for more than eight minutes. The second Sunday his gums hurt too much to talk for more than 10 minutes. But, the third Sunday, he put his wife's teeth in by mistake and he couldn't shut up... Submitted by Hugh Jones, Beerwah
