DECEMBER 14 2016
Hi Everyone
W
ell, we are definitely getting to the pointy end of 2016 where things start to slow down for the year – the kids are all on holidays and most of us are looking forward to having a break over Christmas! However we still have lots of things happening (and not just Christmas events) so, as usual, we have included plenty of great local stories in this edition. Last week Year 6 students finished their primary schooling which is clearly an exciting moment for them (and their parents) and not surprisingly the ‘School News’ this week focuses on graduations and awards ceremonies. The staff at the GC&M News are in countdown mode while we still have plenty to do as we go to print a day early this week – so if you have something to get in to the last edition of the year, please make sure you send it in by Thursday at 12.00noon. You will receive your last paper for the year a day early and then the first paper for next year is January 18. Regards,

Local News Cameron wins silver in Oceania Championships Cameron Taylor, owner and instructor at the San Training Centre at Beerwah, travelled to Fiji last weekend as part of the Australian National Taekwondo Team to compete in the Oceania Continental Championships. Cameron was accompanied by his dad and coach Norm as an Australian team coach. The Oceania Championships is a world-ranked event and is held every two years. Each of the Oceania region countries are permitted to enter up to three players in each of the four divisions for men and women. Cameron had to contest three fights in the men’s under 80kg division to make the final. Cameron had a relatively easy first round, beating Vanuatu 13-0 with a strong performance. He then had a nail-biting match in the second round against a skilful player from Tahiti. Scores were tied at 0-0 at the end of three rounds and the fight went to golden point, which Cameron won with a punch with 30 seconds left on the clock. In the final, Cameron fought strongly but lost to the number one ranked player from Victoria. “Scores were level through the first two rounds, however our tactics in the third round were not

effective against the strong and experienced player and the final score was 7-15,” said Cameron. The silver medal will boost Cameron's world ranking considerably – he should move to world number 60 and into the number three in Australia. This is an important step in his bid for selection at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Cameron and Norm also managed to enjoy two days holiday in Fiji that included some sightseeing, hiking, surfing and touring local villages. Merle was born in Maleny and her parents lived next door to her maternal grandparents whose house still stands on Maple Street today (Maleny Lodge Guest House). Merle and her family relocated to Buderim when she was very young, and her parents grew bananas and small crops. To get to school, Merle would walk along what was then the Palmwoods to Buderim tramline and the family consisted of her parents, two brothers and another sister. Sadly the eldest brother was fatally wounded on his way home from school one day when he was tragically hit by a car. Merle completed Year 8 at Mooloolah State School where she lived with her great uncle, Alf King, and his family on their farm, Kingsdale. Sitting for the scholarship exam, Merle passed and went on to Nambour Rural School which she attended by train from Mooloolah. One of her key memories of this time was when she waiting on the platform as the train approached and she looked down and saw a baby crawling on the train tracks! She jumped down and grabbed the baby and passed it up to someone and scrambled back onto the platform just as the train pulled in! She then boarded the train and went to school! Merle thinks that the baby may have belonged to the keepers of the shop located at the time right next to the train line. Another memory from her teenage years was being asked to play organ for a wedding at St Thomas’s Church when she was just 15, as the
LANDSBOROUGH
regular organist was away. Eileen King sat next to her for support and Merle didn’t know the bride (Olive Stevens) or groom (Viv James) – and she certainly never guessed that she would eventually marry the bride’s brother Roy Stevens! On leaving school Merle took up nursing and worked in Stanthorpe and Brisbane. At 21 she contracted polio during a widespread epidemic. She returned to Mooloolah to recuperate and worked at the bakery for Kath and Dick Williams, where she met Roy Stevens and went on to marry him on April 26, 1943. The couple had one child, Beris (Steveley) and ran first a dairy farm on Glenview Road, followed by farming pineapples and bananas. On retirement the couple sold the farm and moved to Hervey Bay. Missing Glenview, Merle and Roy moved back to the area and built a new house in Glenview. They only lived in their new home for 10 days when, after a long bushwalk with some friends, Roy suddenly suffered a stroke – passing away at 65. Merle then moved to Dicky Beach and over the years enjoyed coach tours around Australia and England, as well as reading, gardening and playing the organ. She particularly enjoyed visits from her two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In 2006 she was one of the first residents to move into Eden (now Glass House Views) where music and reading are still her favourite pastimes – along with visits from her family.

Young students beautify Beerburrum station
Queensland Rail has teamed up with students from Beerburrum State School to beautify their local train station, transforming the concrete elevator shafts with colourful geometric designs.
Artist Josephine Prestipino from Queensland Rail’s positive pARTnership program said the designs had been developed in digital workshops
Riley and his bird on platform 1
with 48 primary school students inspired by images of the region’s iconic Kabi Kabi namesake, the king parrot. “The name Beerburrum comes from the indigenous Kabi Kabi word identified with the king parrot, a beautiful, colourful bird native to this part of Australia which will be very familiar to locals,” said Ms Prestipino. “This was why, when we identified that the station would benefit from community engagement and locally significant visual arts, we chose to base designs on the king parrot. “During four workshops, students digitally manipulated photos of the region’s iconic birds into triangulated abstract images, as well as crafting 3D parrots. “The final images, which were originally designed by Year Two students Riley and Braith, were then transferred onto the two 21 square metre elevator shafts as a modern nod to Beerburrum’s local fauna, and a bright and colourful display for the local community. “I’m happy with the results, which enhance and compliment the station’s architecture and commuter environment.” Beerburrum State School Principal, Shirley Francis, said the students were elated to have been a part of the project. “Being a part of the design process was incredibly exciting for the students, who see king parrots in Parrot Park next to the school and in the local bushlands,” said Ms Francis.

An application has come to the Sunshine Coast Council to recommence and expand rock quarrying at a site in Beerburrum. The Burrum Quarry, situated roughly two kilometres from Beerburrum town centre, is located down an access road on the southern side of the Beerburrum-Woodford Road (Lot 589 on Plan FTY1876). The Barro Group, a family owned company with over 60 years of experience in supplying quality materials to the construction industry, holds the lease over the site and is looking to ramp up production from the old quarry. The 23.38 hectare site was formally recognised as a Key Resource Area (KRA) under the State Planning Policy (SPP) in 2013, to ensure that the resource is fully utilised and also to protect the resource from encroaching incompatible land uses. The proposed operation will initially involve the extension of the two existing quarry pits on the site, and establishing associated facilities including a site office, amenities building, weighbridge and a caretaker’s residence. The site has been proven to contain a significant volume of both trachyte and sandstone, both a valuable resource in the road and construction industries. The production is estimated to peak at 750,000 tonnes a year, providing employment for five on-site employees per shift An Environmental Assessment Report (EAR) and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) have been prepared for the operation, which outline the operational controls and measures that will be employed to ensure that potential environmental impacts are managed to the relevant standards. The quarry is planned to operate Monday to Friday, 6.00am to 6.00pm and Saturday 7.00am
to 1.00pm, with blasting limited to the hours of Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm. No blasting activities will occur Saturday, Sunday or public holidays. An average of fourteen truck movements a day (seven in and seven out) will occur, with the majority travelling through Beerburrum township. However, the application doesn’t consider this an issue as “…the township is accustomed to decades of heavy vehicle traffic travelling through the main street.” To offset this, the applicant is proposing to enter into a relationship with the school, as the school has done with Readymix and Bassett Barks. They acknowledge that intersections of the site access road and Beerburrum-Woodford Road, and that of Beerburrum-Woodford Road and Beerburrum Road will require significant upgrades and lane modifications. With the Beerburrum Road intersection, this will involve dedicated turning lanes. Consideration is also given to annual contributions to maintain the roads along the proposed haulage routes. To find out more or to make submissions for or against, go to www.pdonline.sunshinecoast.qld. gov.au and search for MCU16/0275.

Pine plantations not the place for heavily modified vehicles Pine plantations in South East Queensland are popular destinations for four wheel driving, but an alarming trend is emerging where vehicles used are so heavily modified they are no longer roadworthy. As summer begins, Crime Stoppers Queensland is reminding drivers to enjoy forests responsibly. Crime Stoppers CEO Trevor O’Hara said pine plantations in state forests in Queensland are public places where Queensland road rules still apply. “Drivers require a valid driver’s licence and motor vehicles must be registered and roadworthy,” he said. “If a four wheel drive is modified to the extent that it would not be legal in a suburban street or on the highway, then it’s not legal to drive it in pine plantations either.”

Fact Box: Is your vehicle roadworthy? Common modifications on registered vehicles that may be considered unroadworthy include: • Excessive lift • Over-sized tyres • Illegally mounted light bars. Mr O’Hara said Queensland Police and the Department of Transport and Main Roads regularly conduct joint operations in the Beerburrum plantation and issue infringements or notices to appear in court for operation of unregistered, conditionally registered and illegally modified vehicles.
It is also illegal to operate conditionally registered and unregistered vehicles that have been brought into pine plantations by trailer. This includes all tuff-trucks, home builds or allterrain vehicles that are not fully road registered. Regardless of type, all vehicles in pine plantations, including four wheel drives, must obey the road rules, stay on formed roads, drive to the conditions and remember they share the road network with logging trucks and other forest visitors including hikers, bike riders and horse riders.

Peachester local wins Queensland Council of Garden Clubs award Long term Peachester local Margaret Ferris was recently honoured for her extensive work in the floral art industry with an award from the Queensland Council of Garden Clubs (QCGC). Margaret and her husband Barry travelled to Brisbane to attend the biennial QCGC awards ceremony, which were held at the Mount Coottha Botanical Gardens on Thursday, December 1. Nominated by the Floral Art Society of Queensland, Margaret received her award for her outstanding contribution to the community. Margaret’s interest in floral art spans almost 70 years and was ignited as a young girl. Her mother would help make bouquets for special occasions and Margaret was involved with the Junior Red Cross which, during the war years, would organise flower shows. Margaret’s first floral art work was made when she was just eight years old for the Red Cross Flower Show, held at her primary school at Wamuran. “As a young girl we would help run the flower shows at the school. I still have my uniform from when I was in the Junior Red Cross!” says Margaret. In the early 1960s, following her marriage to Barry and the birth of their children, Margaret went along to an adult education floristry course that was held in Landsborough. Realising a passion and talent, she went on to teach floral art for many years as well as doing seasonal work for florists on the Coast. During this time
Margaret and Barry still managed their farm and raised their family on the Peachester Range. Celebrating 60 years of marriage this year, the couple still live in Peachester where their son now Margaret and husband manages the fourth Barry Ferris generation property. Since the 1970s, Margaret has been an original member of a number of different floral art clubs in the state including Caloundra, Caboolture and the Floral Art Society of Queensland. She is also a proudly longstanding member of the Peachester CWA. An accredited judge, Margaret has competed and judged in national and international competition and has represented Australia internationally in Floral Art demonstrations. “I love it! Once I became a judge I’ve been lucky enough to travel all over Australia and the world with floral art,” says Margaret. Over the following two years, Margaret will speak at floral art events as an ambassador representing the combined gardening clubs of Queensland and no doubt she will continue to demonstrate her work and skills in this industry for many years to come.

Ballet career takes off During the previous school holidays, Year 11 Beerwah High student Keely Lister auditioned for the Queensland Contemporary Youth Ballet (QCYB) in Brisbane and was successful in gaining a place in the Dance Company for the second year in a row. More than 80 dancers auditioned for the limited places in the company and Keely (along with another local, Teagan Potter) was lucky enough to secure a spot. Keely, 16, has been dancing since the age of four. Her love of dancing became evident from the age of eight years old when she started dancing at Suncoast City Performing Arts Centre (SCPAC) Caloundra. Since that age she has been competing at Eisteddfods and travelling all over South East Queensland competing. Already she has completed a Certificate IV in Elite Dance and Performance, has been a member of SCPAC's Ballet Elite Part Time Program for two years and is a member of the award-winning Beerwah High Dance Company. Amongst her achievements she has also attended the Australian Dance Festival in Sydney three times – competing as part of SCPAC for two festivals. Keely has been dedicated to her craft for many years. During the school term she attends early morning practice three times a week the for Beerwah High Dance Company rehearsals and then after school from Monday to Thursday she would attend dance classes at SCPAC (around 12 hours a week). On Sundays she has been attending QCYB Rehearsals in Brisbane. Thrilled to have been accepted again for 2017, Keely will travel to Brisbane every Sunday from January to June for rehearsals and workshops as well as normal dance classes. This schedule will also have to fit in with study, assignments, Beerwah High Dance Company rehearsals, and the usual demands of completing Year 12!

The bathroom is a generous size as well and I love how the light comes on as soon as you step in, no fumbling for light switches. I wanted a place that had a chef, not just cooks, and I am really impressed by the standard of the food. I have found there to be an interesting varied menu and the meal is always beautifully presented and nice and hot. Aged care can be very traumatic for both the resident and family but I have found Embracia Woodford to have met all my expectations and then some. I would thoroughly recommend this facility if you are looking for a special place for your loved one.”
Come in to see the Embracia difference – the comfort of home, with a little extra luxury and the quality care you need.

early Christmas present after earning Honours in the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing Ballet exam they sat in September. The girls were rightly thrilled with their accomplishment and Mrs Rebecca, principal and owner of Black Swan at Landsborough, said she couldn’t be any prouder of these two beautiful dancers. “Their hard work and persistence has absolutely paid off,” she said. Jasmine, age 11, said, “My dream is to be a teacher like Mrs Rebecca and I'd like to teach every type of dance.” Nailani, age 7, said, “I'd like to dance around the world and own a dance school." Jasmine and Nailani still have a number of exams to sit before achieving their dancing goals, but with their families, friends and peers behind them they look forward to a bright future.

More local staff wanted!
Locally owned and operated Landsborough business Transportable Shade Sheds has gone from strength to strength over the last 15 years, and they are now looking for more local staff to guarantee the success of their future-focussed business model. Over the last few years their production, range and sales outlook has seen exceptional growth and they are keen to attract more great sales and production staff to join their team. Both Gary Rosman, Production Manager, and Tyler Maclaren, Business Manager, are looking for additional skilled workers for their Landsborough site. The ideal candidates will have passion and enthusiasm and a willingness to be part of dedicated team which has local values combined with a big picture global outlook. “We have opportunities here on the Sunshine

Coast right now and big plans in Townsville and Perth,” Tyler said. “We want to grow faster here in Australia so we can look at taking the business over to the USA. “The one thing slowing us down is people – we need more great staff. The opportunities are endless if you work for us and it’s an exciting time in our company’s history.” As the company continues to expand and sell
Plan to expand Montville centre An application has been lodged with Sunshine Coast Council to develop a new retail and residential complex at the top of the town in Montville. Located at 116 Main Street, the current residential house site is earmarked for a possible 177 square metres of shopping floorspace, as well as nine units in the form of four one-bedroom units, three two-bedroom units and two three-bedroom units. Five of the proposed units are located above the commercial tenancies and car parking area. The Material Change of Use application states that the two-storey development "achieves an attractive, architecturally designed built form” which “incorporates a number of traditional building elements including, hip roof forms, corrugated iron roof sheeting, a feature arbour with decorative posts and a large feature window broken up with mullions. These building features will ensure that the development is consistent with, and reflects, the traditional townscape and architectural character of Montville." The retail footprint is split into three separate
tenancies, and provision will be made for 21 on-site car parking spaces. As the locality is designated in the town plan as a ‘Gateway/Entry Point’, the design includes Main Street verge planting, a three metre wide footpath covered by a feature arbour, and a vertical planting along the feature street-side arbour. New venture for Vianta Exciting news for Vianta with the confirmation that they will be opening an additional ‘Exotics’ retail store right next door to their current premises on Simpson Street. At this stage, plans are underway to be open in time for Christmas. The expansion follows the decision from the previous owner of the long running business ‘Patchwork’ to vacate the space – opening up a world of potential. Sensing a great business opportunity, Steve Moon from Vianta embraced the opportunity to extend his current business model with a long held dream to offer customers a greater range of unique, artisan and exotically inspired products. The new shop will provide a retail space to complement the popular dining and live music venue. Steve envisages that the shop will offer a full range of gifts and homewares, along with gourmet fudges, sales of award-winning loose leaf teas and their ‘Signature Roasters’ fresh coffee beans. For updates, keep an eye on the Vianta website or Facebook page. They are located at 70 Simpson Street, Beerwah.

Word is getting out across Australia As word gets out around the country about the opportunities available for small business owners through the Saver6.com network, interest from interstate locations is rapidly growing. In exciting news, Justin Heijn from Merredin W.A. is the first cab off the rank in Western Australia to become a Saver6. com small business owner and reseller of Transportable Shade products. Australia is vast country that generates ideal weather conditions well suited to utilise the ever increasing range of products available to customers. Justin already has extensive experience in shed installation – Business feature building and installing sheds and patios for over 13 years. A handyman by trade, who also does fencing and panel installation work; he saw an opportunity to concentrate his efforts in one area which would allow him to simplify his workload. “I became a reseller for a number of reasons – firstly because of the simplicity of the design … the shade sheds are really easy to install in a very short period of time. I also like that they are fully adaptable and also because they are transportable there is less red tape than with a permanent structure; and finally I’m impressed with the great range of different products on offer,” said Justin. Justin looks forward to the possibility of great sales potential in the previously untapped Western Australian market, not only for highly versatile shade sheds which come with a tough 10 year structural warranty, but also for the some of the newer products available. Responding to the market has seen Transportable Shade Sheds expand their lines to include more specialised products such as the fully compliant ‘Dangerous Goods Storage’ products, ‘Shade Trees’ and the popular ‘Shade Stables’. A more cost efficient skillion roof structure has also proved popular with customers wanting an adaptable reliable and sturdy shade option that can sell for under $1000. Recently the company has released a brand new range of retractable awnings that continues the quality range of shade covering options. “Given the products available and the climate here in Western Australia, I’m excited about the various sales opportunities. My wife and I spent a fair bit of time reading through all the paperwork and looking into the business options and I believe this will offer me a great opportunity to consolidate my time and really focus on this work which should prove to be very successful,” said Justin. By taking up the opportunity to become a Saver6.com small business owner, as well as selling a well supported Australian designed and manufactured product through the collaboration with Saver6.com, Justin also has additional access to online support, mentorship and marketing to assist grow his business. So as well as national support, he has access to a global network of innovation, ideas and business forward strategies. If you have family and friends living in W.A. looking for a Transportable Shade Shed or retractable awning please contact Justin on 0428 955 550. If you would like to find out more about opportunities in your area or are keen to be your own boss, or alternatively would like to look at business options that may work well with your current industry then contact the team at Transportable Shade Sheds on 1300 667 433 or Saver6.com on 1300 918 771.
Beerwah NHWQ: Good Neighbour Award
At the NHWQ meeting on December 5, there were two ‘Good Neighbour’ awards to be presented. The ‘Certificate for October’ was presented by the Area Co-ordinator, Ron Stocks, to Jeff Bodley and Rob Morris of Peachester. They were nominated by Coral Beutel, who wrote: “They are ready to help anyone who needs help. “They belong to the Peachester History Group and the Peachester District Horticultural Society They volunteer at the information centres at both Glass House and Montville. They are a great help to the Peachester Branch of Country Women’s Association, particularly when it comes to setting up the tables for market days and functions.” The recipients of the ‘Good Neighbour of the Year’ award were Doug and Gwen Kippen, who were nominated by Betty Muir and Iris Usher who wrote: “On behalf of many senior members of our community, we would like to say thank you to two special people: Doug and Gwen Kippen. “Between them they keep an eye on those of us who need a helping hand from time to time; be it a cooked meal delivered to the door (not forgetting the dog!), transport to appointments, lawn mowing, or handyman repairs, Gwen and Doug are there for us. “So, Doug and Gwen, thank you so much for your many kindnesses. You are both very special.”

Solar panels on the RSL
Member for Glass House Andrew Powell recently had the opportunity to congratulate the Glasshouse Country RSL who were successful through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund in gaining a grant for $12,500.00 to install solar panels on their roof. The panels are up and the sub-branch are already seeing the benefits of their investment.
The Glasshouse Country View Club
Contributed by Janet Kitchin The club had their Christmas party on December 7, which was the last function for the year. The club had a lovely buffet lunch at the sports club and had great entertainment from Diana Korgitta who played her music and sang along to our most popular songs – there was a secret Santa and lots of raffles and a good time was had by all. After the Christmas break we will be meeting for our outing on January 4 for morning tea at the Lookout Cafe and then our AGM will be held on January 18. We would like to wish a very happy Christmas and good wishes for the New Year to all our members. Any ladies who would like to join us or are interested in joining our club should contact either Lynda on 5494 7875 or Maree on 5494 6956 for more information. View Clubs support the Smith Family activities including the 'Learning for Life' program.
Please call Justin Heijn, a Saver6.com member and a Transportable Shade Shed specialist. He is available to help you get your Transportable Shade Shed on your property.

Students rewarded with bursaries
Peachester CWA
Contributed by Beverley Wild We would like to thank all who supported our recent Peachester Village Markets: stall holders, Peachester Fire Brigade members and patrons. Our next Village Markets will be held on February 25, 2017. Stall sites are $10.00 for one table and two tables for $15.00. Contact Joan on 5494 9521. Our upcoming combined Peachester - Beerwah International Day with luncheon will be held at Peachester Hall on March 28, 2017. Come, learn and taste the cuisine and interesting facets of Nepal. We held our Christmas luncheon at the Club Glass House and our raffle was drawn there with first prize to Aileen, second to Sharon and third to Margaret. A donation is being given to the Peachester School for the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen. At the school graduation evening, bursaries and certificates will be presented to two students. Thank you to all who attended the Peachester markets for making them the success they are, and a big thank you to the Rural Fire Brigade for providing delicious fare for patrons. Our thanks also to the menfolk for helping set up the stalls. A Merry Christmas to all and best wishes for the New Year.
Makenzie Hooke and Portia Quinn-Haynes were recipients of the Mooloolah Masonic Lodge’s annual bursaries at the Year 6 Awards Night held at Mooloolah State School on December 5. Makenzie and Portia were nominated by their teacher Chris Lowe as being the ‘Most Improved / Promising Students’. Derek Jacques presented them each with a cheque to go toward their high school education. School Principal Adam Poulus was also presented with a $200.00 cheque to purchase a camera to be used by next year’s Year 6 students. Although Mooloolah Masonic Lodge has met at the Caloundra Masonic Centre since 2000, it promotes its charitable activities throughout the region. This year, $9,976.00 has been donated in cash or kind.

By Bev Dooley I would like to say thank you this month – thank you to each and every volunteer who gives their time to the Glass House Visitor and Interpretive Centre throughout the year. Our centre is open seven days a week, closing only three days a year, and each and every day it is serviced by the amazing team of volunteers. With Christmas fast approaching my hope is that you all experience a happy and fun Christmas with those you love, and a very happy New Year, staying safe in this our storm season. Of course, for us it is one of our busiest times of year; schools have finished and summer visitors are heading to our Coast and Hinterland. This serves as a great reminder to exercise caution if you are out walking. Take plenty of water, hats and sunscreen, then get out and enjoy our beautiful area. If you need tips, come and see us. We can help. If you would like to volunteer, contact bev. dooley@visitsunshinecoast.com, or call in and see us and have a chat.
The Glass House Mountains Visitor and Interpretive Centre is located at Settler's Rotary Park, Reed Street, Glass House Mountains and is open seven days a week from 9.00am to 4.00pm

Pets &
Animals Never safe to leave pets in cars
RACQ has sent a strong warning to motorists not to leave their pets in cars. This year they have rescued 663 pets accidently locked inside vehicles – an average of two animals each day. RACQ’s Lauren Ritchie said there was never a safe time to leave an animal in a car, even if only for a few minutes. “Often pets get trapped in the car when owners make a quick trip to the shops, but the reality is temperatures don’t discriminate. In as little as seven minutes the car cabin can reach more than 40 degrees,” Ms Ritchie said. “RACQ testing shows window tinting, the colour of the car or winding the windows down has little effect on temperature.” Ms Ritchie said Saturday was the busiest day for animal rescues by RACQ, with 9.00am to 12.00noon the peak time for callouts.
Can we find a home for... Sasha is a female Staffy cross of only two years old. This girl has a fabulous nature and is good with car travel and just adores her out and about walks. This beautiful girl has lived in our refuge for over six months now, and it is time to find her a family of her own. Sasha is de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to go! We hope this gives her a chance of getting a home really soon, as she is a very deserving dog. Stitches is a very pretty female Domestic Shorthair Cat, of only 18 months old. This sweet girl is very good natured and friendly and is okay to be picked up. Stitches seems fine around another cat and should be a great addition to most cat loving homes! All vet work is done, and she is ready and waiting to meet her new family. Open: Tue - Sat 9am - 4pm Sundays 10am - 2pm 28 Sippy Creek Road, Tanawha

School News Year 6 Graduation

It was a wonderful evening filled with fun, beautiful food, music, photos, remembrance and awards. The Year 6 students entered the hall with their families dressed to impress and enjoy the evening. There were lots of fun and laughs as the children reminisced and listened to inspiration from guest speakers. The Kale Deasy and class performed one last Archer Hiser time together, dancing and singing to their audience. We would like to thank the businesses and organisations for their generous sponsorship and support of the students at Mooloolah State School. Year 6 students performing their graduation song
Year 6 students depart
Contributed by Kylie Merola Landsborough State School has honoured its departing Year 6 students with a special graduation ceremony, held in the school hall. The school acknowledged the accomplishments of each student and thanked them for their many and valued contributions. School captains delivered speeches reflecting on their primary school years and thanked school staff for supporting them and preparing them for the future. They spoke from their hearts, telling many amusing recollections from as early as their Prep year.
There was also a very entertaining visual presentation of the Year 6 students’ time at the school. Various awards were announced and guest speakers conveyed messages of congratulations and support. The ceremony concluded with the Year 6 students singing a song and then cutting their graduation cake. After the formalities were out the way, they headed to Kings Beach for lunch and a chance to celebrate together for the final time as a unified group. We have watched them grow into fine young people and wish them all the best at high school.

Thank you Twinnies
We all know or have heard about the Twinnies Pelican and Seabird Rescue in Landsborough. I have seen firsthand the work they do looking after our sick and injured pelicans and other wild birdlife which are so important to our planet. They travel many kilometres to carry out a rescue. Many of the problems are created by the human race which is deplorable to say the least. I know they work long hours and even when unwell they carry on. They are so dedicated and caring and an inspiration to us all, including, I’m sure, the other organisations they deal with. Don’t forget this is a charity which depends on our support. Twinnies, you are both truly amazing human beings. A big thank you. Good things never die. K. Parrish Beerwah
Reliability of scientific publications Thanks to several correspondents, you have recently published diverse opinions about the reliability of peer reviewed papers in scientific journals, showing that the most widely employed method of vetting reports on research is not perfect but generally does a good job. A really big issue concerning publication is the interaction between main-stream media and published science. A classic case where flawed science gained remarkable public support is the origin of the diet-heart hypothesis to explain an epidemic of heart disease in males in the 1950s. A scientist name Ancel Keys selected data from a small number of countries and presented an apparent link between the proportion of fat in the diet and death through heart disease. At the time President of the US Dwight Eisenhower had suffered a severe heart attack that generated enormous concern in the whole nation, eager to find a simple answer. Keys excluded data that did not fit the hypothesis but the media took no notice of scientists who tried to point that out. There were true results at the time to show that saturated fat could raise serum cholesterol, a factor in causing artery blocking, so a general health policy was adopted that low fat, and especially low saturated fat, were essential for a heart-healthy diet. Dr Keys went on to conduct an experiment designed to confirm that polyunsaturated fat was superior by controlling the diets of thousands
Send your letter to email: editorial@gcnews.com.au fax: 5438 7446 post: PO Box, 99, Beerwah, 4519
of participants in the Minnesota Cardiology Experiment between 1968 and 1973. No report was ever published by Keys after that work, but in 2016 the BMJ (a leading medical journal) carried a report by others (Keys had died several years ago), showing that those consuming the polyunsaturated diet were less healthy than the others. That would not have been the first time that a scientist failed to publish results that contradicted his precious theory, but for me it was an outrageous ethical failure, given the great influence of Keys’ original hypothesis on health policy. Keys was trapped by his high standing in the public media into concealing an embarrassing result that would have surely redirected health policy along a more realistic path. The point one of your correspondents made about retired scientists being less inclined to accept new ideas continues to ring true in relation to health policy. A massive trial was conducted in the US in the 1990s involving 48,000 women (traceable on the internet as the Women’s Health Initiative). Half had a considerably lower amount of fat in the diet than the others, yet, over ten years there was no difference in the incidence of stroke, heart disease and several different forms of cancer. But the older generation of health policy formulators has failed to respond to this result by in any way modifying the low fat message, while millions gain abhorrent extra weight on diets high in carbohydrates. Re – Neighbourhood Watch
A short note to thank all those who have delivered newsletters in the Lindeman Road, Carnarvon Road area in Beerwah. I will no longer be the zone coordinator for that area, but truly appreciate the help you have provided and trust this will continue. Merry Christmas to all and thanks again for your commitment. J.J Weeks Beerwah
– who built the new intersection not so long ago. Let’s hope it’s something which was outside of their control. Whatever the reason, the road failure and the weeks that it took to commence the repairs isn’t a good omen for an organisation which is fighting for its survival. The previous Campbell Newman government had a stated goal to close RoadTek down and outsource all of the road building and maintenance works. Having a local RoadTek operation giving local people full time jobs is important for our area. B. Greene Glass House

How long should you hold on to your first home for? When you want to maximise the value of your real estate, a little DIY can go a long way. You may choose to refinance your mortgage and use the money to renovate your home. However, some smaller DIY projects can help too – and the garden is a great place to start. Here’s are three ways experts say you can boost the value of your abode through some simple garden TLC. Let there be shade, Australians like to use the outdoors to host friends and families, but not everyone wants to sit out in the burning sun – and nor should they for many health reasons. An affordable and stylish way to bring a bit of solar balance is to add a shade sail in your garden. All you need is a piece 22

of canvas, three timber posts and a bit of elbow grease. What’s more, landscape designer Dave Limburg lists this as one of his ways homeowners can add thousands of dollars of equity onto a property, and for only around $500! The front garden says a lot about your home. For this reason, it should be the first port of call when sprucing up your property.CEO and real estate agent Mike Pero says it all comes down to first impressions. “Walk across the road and view your house with a fresh set of eyes – see what your first impression is,” he told Westpac NZ. By spending a bit of money on a new letterbox, or a few dollars on a nice
welcome mat, you could be improving your home’s value by more than you’d first think. For bonus points, and to leave a lasting impression on your home’s valuation, repainting the outside of your house while the sun is shining could be a great move. Decluttering your home and creating more space is not only good for you, but potential sellers are willing to pay a princely sum for your efforts. Westpac says that homes can improve their value by as much as AU$4,000 simply by being cleaner and neater – and the price to you is nothing but a weekend of rolling your sleeves up! Just don’t neglect the garden. Removing the weeds, clearing the deck, removing
that tree stump and adding to the greenery could be just what you need to add thousands to your home’s value. Remember, if you want to make some bigger renovations without ruining your savings, your mortgage can hold the key. Contact Teresa today for expert mortgage advice and service.

Artwork to admire
Year 5 students with Chaplain Linda and Barbara from St Vinnies
Learn the joy of giving
Contributed by Deb Ives For the fourth year running, students at Beerwah State School have brought into school donations of non-perishable foods and small gifts for the St Vincent de Paul Society to distribute over the Christmas Holidays. The initiative is run by the school’s Chaplain Linda.
“I am always overwhelmed at the generosity of our families and their heart for those struggling in our community,” she said. “We love that this event provides a wonderful opportunity for children to have the joy of giving, which is the true message of Christmas.” Thank you to all the families at Beerwah State School for their contributions.
Federal Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace decided to rely on the creative talents of our local primary school students in creating suitable artwork for his Electorate Christmas Card, with students being asked to draw their Christmas on the Sunshine Coast. The winner of the competition was Glenview State School Year 6 student Trelyse Allan. Not many artists can say that their artwork has been used in a card that would be sent to the Prime Minister and Governor General of Australia! No doubt Trelyse’s class will also be pleased with the win, as she was able to share her success with the rest of her class as the prize included a pizza lunch with the Federal Member.

Gift Guide Gift buying got you stumped?
If you are still looking for a gift for that hard to buy for person, what about a lovely calendar that shares the beauty of the surrounding area? For over a decade now the Rotary Club of the Glass House Mountains have been producing a calendar which showcases the extensive natural beauty of the dramatic Glass House Mountains. The images were chosen from the many spectacular entries in a photographic competition held earlier in the year, and the calendar is well priced at only $7.50 and makes for a great Christmas gift. They can be purchased from the Beerwah News Agency, Glasshouse News Agency, Glasshouse Post Office, Pasta D’ Vine, Matilda Fruit Barn, Glasshouse Tourist Information, and IGA Glasshouse. Best of all, you will be able to cross another gift off your Christmas list – and the funds raised will go to charitable causes.
Think Christmas ... Think Local Gifts for the whole family

Christmas will be upon us in no time, and many people tend to lose sight of their health and fitness goals and gain weight over the festive season. But this doesn’t have to be the case for you! Many people claim to not have time to workout during the holidays and this combined with excessive eating can lead to weight gain. However you can still workout and enjoy your holidays at the same time. Here are a few helpful tips: 1. Eat before heading out. Eat something light to avoid snacking at parties. 2. Watch your portion size. Do not skip meals – this leads to overeating later on. 3. Drink in moderation. Be careful with top ups – it’s easy to lose count of how much you’ve had. Try alternating your drinks – one alcoholic drink to one non alcoholic drink. 4. Prioritise your workouts. Try to do them early mornings, spend some outdoor time with your children and if you’re on holidays walking is a great way to discover your surroundings. 5. Ask for a gym membership as a Christmas present, that way you can stay fit all year round. It is all about being mindful and making the better choice this holiday season.

Out & About Twilight carols a delight The Maleny RSL had a full house on Friday, December 2, when the Maleny Singers held their Carols by Twilight. They performed an incredible range of traditional Christmas Carols and contemporary songs including a very inspiring performance by a couple of aging ‘cats’ with their 'meow song', and a lovely rendition of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s ‘Happy Christmas’.

Elected
Representatives Andrew Wallace Federal Member for Fisher
It is hard to believe the year is nearly over. Since my election in July, I have been doing my very best to meet as many people as possible across this vast electorate. During this time I have hosted several visits to the area by Federal Government Ministers to show them firsthand the things we need to make the Sunshine Coast an even better place to live and work. Items at the top of the list include the urgent widening to six lanes of the Bruce Highway between Caloundra and Caboolture, the upgrade of the North Coast Rail line between Beerburrum and Nambour, a special Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine at the newly established Mind and Neuroscience Thompson Institute, and medical training places at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. Recently I had the pleasure of catching up with the team from the Maleny Men's Shed after they were awarded a $4,954.00 grant through the Federal Government's National Shed Development Program. The money will go towards buying metal and wood working equipment including a table saw, jointer, bench saws and drill chucks to help further their work at the Maleny Historical Village. While many of you would be familiar with the contribution the Men's Shed makes to the Maleny Historical Society, it is also great way for local men to address health and wellbeing issues and help them become active and valued members of the community.

Jenny McKay
State Member for Glass House
Division 5 Councillor Sunshine Coast Council
Glass House impresses Leader of the Opposition
Recently I welcomed Tim Nicholls, Leader of the Opposition, to the Glass House Electorate where he joined me to get out and about listening to locals. After spending the morning in the southern end of the electorate, we met at the site of the proposed Maleny Indoor Aquatic Centre and new Drop ‘n Go at the Maleny State School. Committee members and I briefed Tim on the recent announcement of an in-principle agreement with the Education Department for some of the school land to be used for this long sought after project. It was pretty clear to him how passionate the community is to have a new indoor aquatic centre and he was pleased to see that the long campaigned for improved set down and pick up facilities for Maleny State School students will also be part of the project. Almost 50 locals attended a community afternoon tea in Montville and were able to speak with Tim and share their concerns for the region.
Pavement repairs to Reed Street intersection
By the time you read this, pavement repairs should have been conducted to the Reed Street and Steve Irwin Way intersection. I have been contacted by many of you regarding the bitumen slip and I would like to thank the Department of Transport and Main Roads for their prompt attention to this issue.
‘No Body, No Parole’ laws
Another valuable community organisation has just celebrated its 70th anniversary. Established in 1946, the Glasshouse Country RSL SubBranch continues to support veterans, ex-service personnel and their families. Community groups in the Fisher Electorate are eligible to enter a competition to win an Australian Flag. If you are a part of a local community group that would like an Australian flag, or needs to replace an old one, simply head to my website, enter your organisation's details and explain how it would benefit from having a large Australian flag. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a great festive season. My office will be closed between December 24 and January 8, however, you can continue to email me at andrew.wallace. mp@aph.gov.au and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Once again, thank you for your support and I look forward to working with you in 2017.

DECEMBER 14 2016
The LNP announced recently that a future LNP government will implement ‘No Body, No Parole’ laws in Queensland. This means that convicted killers who fail to tell authorities where they have dumped a body will be refused parole under a tough new LNP policy aimed at empowering victims not offenders. The news was welcomed by Bruce and Denise Morcombe who said it was a huge win for victims and their families. These changes will bring Queensland in-line with other states such as Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
Christmas message
Well it certainly has been another big year! I would like to take this opportunity, from my family to yours, to wish you a happy and peaceful Christmas, and a safe, relaxing and festive New Year. My office will be closed from Friday, December 16 and will re-open on Monday, January 9. Emails will be checked several times during that period, so if you do have an urgent matter to raise please send an email to glass.house@parliament.qld.gov.au Merry Christmas and best wishes.

The future of the Sunshine Coast is in great hands I have attended many awards nights, graduation ceremonies and events recognising the achievements of our local youth over the last few weeks. I would like to congratulate and acknowledge each and every student for the hard work they have put in this year. Their commitment to the school community to make it a better place is commendable. Wishing students and parents a happy and relaxing break.
Maleny Commerce celebrates 30 years
Congratulations to the Maleny Chamber of Commerce on celebrating 30 years working for business and with the local community. In the last year alone the chamber has been successful in promoting Hinterland tourism, gaining massive support for the buy-local campaigns and constructively working to deliver solutions to parking issues. As part of an amalgamated council, representing 20,000 people, it’s fantastic for my office to have such a passionate, vocal and professional organisation representing the Maleny business community.
Local artists make their mark with exhibition
Maleny Printmakers and Friends will be hosting an exhibition featuring 18 printmaking artists from the Sunshine Coast and beyond at the Maroochy Bushland Botanical Gardens, Arts and Ecology Centre, Palm Creek Road, Tanawha from January 6 to 15, 2017.
Grants support for local community
The Mooloolah Public Hall will have a new set of side exit steps and landing thanks to a $6,000 Community Grant, while the Blackall Range Woodcrafters Guild will receive $15,000 to complete their first phase of a new multidisciplinary art space at the Montville Sports and Recreation grounds. Congratulations to all the successful groups who received funding through the grants program in 2016.
Mooloolah Breakfast
A big thank-you to everyone who has attended and participated in these fantastic events throughout the year. I look forward to seeing everyone at the first breakfast next year in February 2017.
Mooloolah Recreation Reserve
I will be hosting a community meeting at 8.00am on Sunday, December 18 to hear residents’ views and receive feedback on the Mooloolah Recreation Reserve.
Glasshouse Country News turns 30
Congratulations must also go to the team at the Glasshouse Country News, for keeping the local community informed for 30 years. In an everchanging media landscape, local publications play an increasingly important role in delivering local news and information for Hinterland residents. I’d like to take this opportunity to recognise this great achievement and wish all your readers a very Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year.

A Christmas viewpoint
C
The Church is in the middle of the season of Advent. It is about the Coming of Jesus and the preparation of lives for that event. The key words are, ‘preparation’, ‘kingdom’, ‘expectation’ and ‘Jesus’. Many first century followers were expecting Jesus to come again for a second time and in a similar way. He would establish the Kingdom of God, they believed. This Second Coming would unsettle the way of life of the then world. It would be overturned and a new set of values, based on the old ones, would be established. His followers were to prepare for this, to watch for the signs of its arrival, to watch out for each other and themselves, and to look around to see Jesus’ presence in the world. Advent continues to be observed by many of us in the same way: looking around for God at work GCNEWS Add sept 12 2013.ai 1 10/02/2015 5:26:35 PM today, watching out for each other, and watching over the young, the aged, and the marginalized. The Presence of God can be found in the presents but not just there; in the giving and the sharing of food and goodwill, but not that alone; in the busyness of shopping and travelling and preparing special foods; in the sentimental retelling of the story of the Baby Jesus as well as the implications of the modern view of war and the resettling of refugees from war. In our midst as a community of many faiths, many cultural backgrounds, and varying experiences of love and hate, Jesus as the Reason for the Season of Christmas holds differing kinds of charm. Where our observance of Advent touches us lies hidden in our attitudes of self-centeredness and disregard of others opening up to generosity and openness by the sharing of our vision of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. Bless you.

Severe storms can strike at any time and cause major damage to property so it is important to be well prepared. Landlords or their agents are responsible for keeping the property in good order and in a safe condition. This generally includes trimming trees and clearing gutters.
Tenants need to ensure they secure outside furniture, children’s play equipment and toys or anything that could cause damage. Larger items that are potentially dangerous should be a particular focus.

Outdoor Christmas ideas for under $20.00 You don’t have to break the bank this Christmas – there is a great range of locally available gifts for the backyard and all for under $20.00 Gazebo – Yes, you can actually buy a gazebo for under $20.00 (just). It won’t be super strong and sturdy, but it is great for popping up over the wading pool, barbecue or banana lounge. Banana lounge – Costing about the same as a small bunch of bananas, you can pick up a great banana lounge. Take it to the beach, use it in the backyard, or when you get sent to the ‘naughty room’ for some quiet time. Picnic rug – These are really handy to have in the boot of the car, just in case. Being rubber-backed, they’re water-proof and don’t pick up prickles. They fold up and store away easily. 5L pressure sprayer – You can’t beat some weed killing gear for Christmas – every real man’s (or woman’s if you are one) dream gift. Outdoor citronella candle – Keeps the mossies away for hours and hours. They come in a small bucket – which is handy when the candle is finished. Folding camping chair – So handy for picnics and sporting games. They fold up into a bag for easy carrying. And they have a drink holder. BBQ cover – Protects your pride and joy from the harsh elements – and from marauding possums. Soft six-pack esky – If your loved-one goes to the cricket at the Gabba, you’ll be needing one of these. Garden spade and fork You can pick up both for under $20.00 in total. Not a bad pressie for the keen gardener. Tool bag – Don’t let the DIY in your household get caught without the right tool close at hand. A soft poly tool bag is just the trick. Stud finder – Just what every woman needs? Sorry ladies – it’s actually a handy gadget to find the bits of wood behind walls. Wind-up torch – Give it a wind and you’ve got 30 minutes of torch light for free!

Go Green Rainforest Nursery
Plant of the Week
Holly Leaved Fuschia
Graptophyllum ilicifolium After the good old Christmas tree the next plant we think of when our thoughts turn to Christmas is the Holly. Here in Australia we have an awesome plant whose foliage and flowers are second to none. The Holly Leaved Fuschia has stunning foliage and large clusters of deep red flowers. These flowers are full of nectar and are bird attracting. The Holly Leaved Fuschia is naturally found in small areas of lowland rainforest near Mackay. Here on the Sunshine Coast it makes a beautiful shrub two to three metres high and two metres wide. It does well in full sun to semi shade. Small potted specimens in decorated pots also make a great Christmas ornament or table centrepiece. Along with one of our wonderful native pines why not make our Aussie flora part of your Christmas this year? Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from us all here at Go Green Rainforest Nursery. Go Green Rainforest Nursery, 2620 Steve Irwin Way, Glenview is open Monday to Saturday 9.00am until 4.00pm. . Contributed by Sally Joyce There wasn’t a better place to be than the Beerwah Pool for most students from Peachester State School on a very hot day last Tuesday, December 6. The annual Swimming Carnival was well swum by all who attended. Prep, 1 and 2 classes had the opportunity to have novelty races and races across the pool. Across the other side of the pool things were more serious with some really fast swimming in 50m and 25m in all strokes, including some 25m swims by prep-aged kids. A parents and past student relay against current students was also hotly contested. The past
students’ ‘Dream Team’ won. The most impressive swim of the day was the 200m Individual Medley swum by Maddy S, Carys B, Georgia M, Kyla P, Sam A and Emma S. Well done. Age Champions (pictured) were Emma S, Sam A, Maddy S, Shayla J (Coochin House Captain), Jessie P, Noah S, Georgia M and (absent from the photo) Jay-D A. Coochin House took out the overall points score on 254 points leaving Stanley at 217. Congratulations to all swimmers and best wishes to those who qualified for the School Districts Carnival. This will be held in the first weeks of Term 1, 2017.

Contributed by Neil Lovett On Tuesday we enjoyed our monthly visit from the Blackall Range Care Group. Our guests had a special Christmas-themed morning tea, and some ventured onto the lawns for a game, with two newcomers to swinging the mallet quickly learning how to strike the ball effectively. Members’ play during this hot and stormy week has been restricted to practice sessions for Kath Smith, Frances Harper, Ted Gardner and Neil Lovett. Kath was in great form, and made several breaks of multiple hoops. For enquiries about playing on our lawns at the Maleny Showgrounds, joining the club or coaching ring Vince Carbery on 5494 2193 or Priscilla Vickers on 5494 3555.
Tamara is a discus champ
Tamara Taripo, who has just finished Year 6 at Glass House Mountains State School, went to the national athletics championships for School Sport Australia in Sydney held between November 24 and 29. She competed in the 10-12 years age group for the Track and Field championships and won first place in the 11-year-old division for discus. She made her winning throw on her last attempt, achieving a distance of 35.43 metres. She also competed in the shot put and came fifth with a distance of 11.62 metres. Top work Tamara, we look forward to watching your progress into the future!
Maleny Bowls Club
Contributed by Ian Hansen Tuesday, December 14: Members contested the Jackpot Pairs/Triples with the winners being Doug McGufficke and Sandra Kapatanic with two wins and the meagre margin of +3. The Jackpot wasn’t won, so will be pushing up towards $100.00 this week. Wednesday’s Twilight Challenge was the final for 2016 and the winning team was Mobile Kingdom. Congratulations on a great effort. The Wooden Spoon, a prize not to be treasured, went to Muskateers. Better luck next year. Other winning teams on Wednesday were: Handles, Mavericks, Krackerjacks, Cookies and Sunstone. The Touchers went to Jan Kirkham, Trevor Dunn and Miles Allen while the Lucky Draw winners were Pam McCarthy, Toni Walters and Dave Edwards. The Money Board winners were Don Ginns, Steve Ellet and Dave Edwards. This week there will be Social Bowls on Wednesday evening and this is the last for 2016. The Wednesday Bowls has been a great success and most beneficial to the Club. Many thanks to all the players for your support and to all the helpers who were involved in all the organisation. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Friday’s Scroungers winners were Doug McGufficke, Allan Cook and Tom Ukolo. This week will also be the last of Scroungers until the New Year. The only member present and able to claim his Sponsors’ Prize was Ian Porter who won the Maleny Dairies Prize. The Money Board winner was Scott Alexander. This week there is Jackpot Pairs/Triples on Tuesday afternoon as well as the last games of Wednesday evening and Friday afternoon.

Just for Laughs
It Costs No More To Hire A Proven Professional
Christmas gift delight It was Christmas morning at a church in Maleny and the Pastor was looking at the nativity scene outside when he noticed the baby Jesus was missing from the figures. Immediately the Pastor turned towards the church to call the police. However as he was about to do so, he saw little Sam with a Billy cart, and in the wagon was the figure of the little infant, Jesus.
The Pastor walked up to Sam and said, "Well, Sam, where did you get the little infant?" Sam replied, "I got him from the church." "And why did you take him?" With a sheepish smile, Sam said, "Well, about a week before Christmas I prayed to little Lord Jesus. I told him if he would bring me a billy cart for Christmas, I would give him a ride around the block in it."

ARIES 21 March - 20 April This full Moon offers you an opportunity to incorporate game changing views and all those will have an impact on decisions you have to make. The key to all this is to be open to updating your information. The weekend sees the Moon in Leo and so there is the simple matter of creative planning on schedules and logistics. Have fun doing what you want! TAURUS 21 April - 22 May It’s time to have finesse, more than usual, to make your interactions positive and harmonious. You see the good in others and help whenever you can prior to Christmas, however conflicting or complicated emotional barriers from others sometimes make it hard to break through. The weekend sees results after a hard day’s work. Happy surprise! GEMINI 22 May - 21 June This full Moon week calls for the coordination of your personal desires, plans and interests with other people. When it comes to money decisions, including shopping for gifts, nostalgia may arise and have a strong influence. Asking for an outside opinion helps. There is an extra charge of confidence and assertion in all your relationship dealings. CANCER 22 June - 22 July The full Moon in Gemini stimulates your network area and is a reminder that for you, during all this hectic activity at Christmas, you might rapidly wear yourself out. So there is a need for some time away from the stress of hustling an bustling. Recoup your mind, body and spirit with enough periods of rest. Big pizzazz in your shopping moods.
LEO 23 July - 22 August This week has a Gemini full Moon for you and with that fire and air energy being in your sign together with this full Moon, you will make progress through generous acts and probably give greatly to a communal cause. With the Moon in your sign for the weekend you are very sure of yourself and enjoy the feeling of being in charge creatively. VIRGO 23 August - 22 September The Gemini full Moon can provide a spotlight of attention on something professional in your life just before the holidays. It is also possible that it sets off a recent home affair about a sale, move, renovation or expansion. The activity and efforts to improve yourself can pay off in shining self-esteem. You exude confidence at a family or local gathering. LIBRA 23 September - 22 October This week offers you lots of fun, and if you are ready to strike out on an adventure, your holiday travel may include some sort of educational training. Look for all discussions around the situation this week to be lively and informative. Someone may come up with a surprising proposal that has bright potential. Security is uppermost in your mind. SCORPIO 23 October - 22 November The full Moon sees action in your financial sector. You will have something to do with assets that are shared with others. There may be a need to attend to taxes, perhaps even an inheritance. Double check all your insurance policies. With the holidays here now there is a lot to do with spending for Christmas gifts for loved ones and for a party.

Week beginning 30/11/2016 SAGITTARIUS 23 November - 22 December With a few planets moving through Sagittarius, but the full Moon being opposite in Gemini, it truly may be a week to do less talking and more listening. Compromise and conciliation go further than aggressive debating. If you have the ability please see that you arrange some decent Christmas lights around your home. It makes you feel more festive. CAPRICORN 23 December - 19 January With the full Moon this week you are motivated to your health and work routines. This week it is definitely necessary to pay attention to your diet. Not the greatest time to add loads of sugar into your diet! Take active steps to create a moderate work and health balance into your daily activities. Now comes a time of faith, kindness and forgiveness. AQUARIUS 20 January - 19 February There is a lot of power now in your chart to launch something and watch it take off. This is because the Sun is connected with Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. That will give heart, purpose and confidence to any ongoing personal projects. Make use of this full Moon power period. There is a pounding of positive strength of feelings in your heart. PISCES 20 February - 20 March Because the Gemini full Moon week is still classified as a super Moon it brings a big impact in your life on this closeness to earth timing. You may feel caught up in urgencies at home and work. You might go where your heart is as that is the strongest calling, rather than grind at work routines. The weekend sees you employ your best theatrical attributes now.
