Hi Everyone

T

his week we are pleased to be able to include stories from some of the locals that will be travelling to Gallipoli for ANZAC Day. It has been really interesting for me to hear their different stories. To be a part of this historic day, they had to enter ballots to be chosen, organise multiple flights, travel for around 30 hours to get there, get themselves on an official tour, then sit up in a stand, or on the ground, all night at an outdoor vigil in temperatures as low as zero degrees, all this before the service has actually gotten underway. For those of us who won’t be travelling to Gallipoli there are plenty of marches and services happening locally (as usual). We have included brief descriptions of what is happening on page 8 and in next week’s edition we will have more complete details. Regards,

Local Glasshouse resident Tricia Back is getting fired up to prepare for this year’s Great Endeavour Car Rally fundraiser. Tricia along with her team mates Debbie Turner and Ros Smith, will be entering their all girl team under the moniker ‘Deja Moo’ and driving a white Mitsubishi Outlander decorated in black cow print patches. The ladies will also be wearing cow onesies and other cow themed costumes during the trip. Now in its 26th year, the rally leaves from Redcliffe to Rockhampton (via the Whitsundays) on July 17 and raises funds for the Endeavour foundation which supports people with a disability. If any local businesses would like to sponsor the team they can have their logo on the car for six months (contact details are at the end of this article). This is Tricia’s fifth rally having previously driven with the ‘Antique Angels with Attitude’. This year she has joined forces with new team mates Debbie and Ros who have a number of rallies under their belts. All the ladies agree that the friendships they have made through these events will be long lasting, and all past and present participants are considered as ‘rallytives’ as they do become like family. “I really enjoy the opportunity to see many parts of the country I wouldn’t normally see if not for

'Dejo moo' team Ros, Debbie and Tricia the rally, while at the same time being able to raise ‘dust for dollars’ for this very deserving charity,” says Tricia. Fundraising has already started with the next local fundraiser to be a High Tea planned for Saturday, May 16 at the Glass House Mountains Neighbourhood Centre from 2.30pm - 4.30pm. Tickets are $40.00 a head, with all proceeds going to Endeavour. Tricia and the team are encouraging ladies to wear their favourite hat or fascinator and the girls have also put the call out to local businesses for any additional donations for raffle prizes. If you would like to book a ticket to the High Tea, or would like to donate prizes for the raffle, please contact Tricia at charligirl948@ hotmail.com or 0424 669 960.

Locals heading to Gallipoli Recently GC&M News put the call out to locals who were travelling to Gallipoli for ANZAC Day. So far we have been able to catch up with six locals who are making the journey and we are looking forward to hearing their stories of what the experience was like on their return. Colleen and Dennis Hare of Glass House Mountains will be travelling to Turkey for an extended tour, however the highlight will be attending the dawn service at Gallipoli, for the 100th Anniversary of ANZAC, where they’ll be part of a crowd of 10,500 people. Dennis and Colleen have both served in the defence forces and both applied for tickets in the ballot process. Dennis was fortunate to receive one of only 400 double passes reserved for veterans who served in the Australian Defence Force, which meant that they both could attend the service. Dennis is a second generation soldier from the Vietnam War, his father served during World War 2 and their son served in Afghanistan with the SAS in the Army. Following his trip, Denis will be doing a presentation titled ‘In the footsteps of our Signal Engineers’ at the Caloundra Library on May 14 at 2.00pm. The event will be free, however bookings are essential. Phone the Library on 5475 8989 to book your spot. Donald and Margaret Veness of Glass House Mountains will also be making the journey. Donald's grandfather Victor George Veness

arrived at Gallipoli on the first day of the war, and was in the last battalion to leave, having spent the last two years of the war in a Prison Camp in Germany. After returning to Australia, Victor made his home in North Queensland as a tobacco farmer, where he lived into his 80s. Fortunately for Donald, his father had written a book about his own life, which included stories about his grandfather, including a letter he wrote home to his mother in 1915 from Dardanelles. Keith Murray, from Glass House Mountains Eco Lodge on Barrs Road, will also be at Gallipoli as a volunteer, having been selected by Conservation Volunteers Australia. As a volunteer, Keith will assist in the many facets of the Gallipoli experience, including assisting VIP's, helping people find their way from their buses to the actual site, as well as being on hand for the ‘all night’ vigil, that leads into the morning of April 25. Keith said it means a lot to him. His grandfather Sgt Keith Murray fought for our country in WW1, landing at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915. He was wounded three times over the next 14 weeks and then repatriated back to Australia via England where he convalesced for several months. “My father, James Murray fought in Milne Bay and Guadalcanal in WW2 and my son Ryan REMEMBER – IMPORTANT – T Murray currently serves with the SAS, having (we willTimor do it for you) BU undertaken tours of dutyEnergex in Afghanistan, expenditure, doesn’t need to take p and Solomon Islands, so our family has a proud military history,” said Keith. For Keith it is a time of ‘remembrance’ not only of his grandfather, but also the many thousands who lost their lives so selflessly at this time in Gallipoli. Keith will take along his grandfather's prayer book and say a prayer from it while he is there. The Glasshouse Country RSL Sub Branch has funded Keith to lay a wrealth on behalf of the Sub Branch and the township of Glass House Mountains. Beerwah local Glen Hyde knew that both his grandfathers had served their country in the

second world war, one in the English Army and one in the Australian Army, and while he doesn’t know a great deal about their military service, he has always thought that one day he would go to Gallipoli for the dawn service. When the announcement about the ANZAC Centenary ballot process was made, Glen’s wife decided to complete a nomination for him. When she advised Glen, he didn’t hold out much hope of being successful, knowing the vast numbers of people that would be participating in it. While not successful in the first round of the ballot, he was advised last September that he along with 38, 000 were in the second ballot. Within a few days he was told that he was being offered a double pass and he had 14 days to provide proof that he would be able to attend (basically he had to book and pay for flights that would ensure he was able to attend the service in Turkey). Glen’s wife decided not to go on the trip and Glen will meet his sister Allison, who lives in New York, in London and they will do the trip together. Growing up, they both were members of a Brass Band, (along with their dad Bill). Glen played from age nine until he was 20, so the siblings are no strangers to ANZAC Day services. With Glen’s birthday being on April 24, this year’s birthday will be one to remember, as he will spend it at an open air vigil at the Anzac Commemorative Site. Glen explained that with the one-hour Dawn Service commencing at 5.30am people will be arriving at the site from the afternoon before, until about 3.00am in preparation for the service.

Let’s take a minute to reflect Sometimes life gets so busy you forget to stop and smell the roses and give thanks for this beautiful country we live in. Well this month is the perfect reminder of that. For some it’s the change in weather, for others it’s the time they will spend with their children and grandchildren over the holidays. For me, most importantly we remember the centenary of our Anzac’s and all the service men and women who have fought bravely for the freedom and peace in our country. It is a wonderful tribute to our great nation and I for one am extremely proud and thankful of the sacrifices they have all made and continue to do so. So this month, I will stop, I will say a prayer and have many minutes of silence in honour of them all. Our office will be collecting all month for the Young Diggers so if you are passing by and have some spare change pop it in one of our collection tins as your way of saying thanks. This Anzac Day you will find me at the Beerwah dawn service, so please come stand shoulder to shoulder with me and we will take a minute to reflect together. Lest we forget. Tamara can be contacted on 0435 849 580 or by email on Tamara@laurieevans.com.au

They have been advised that the weather at that time of year can be from 0 – 30 degrees, and they are only able to take a ‘day pack’ sized backpack. While it was clear that Glen was really looking forward to the experience, he did slip into the conversation that as a mad Liverpool supporter, he had managed to link the trip in with seven days in the UK, and is going to see Liverpool play live. We will talk to Keith, Glen, Dennis and Colleen and Donald and Margaret on their return, and will write a story and share some of their photos on their experience at this historic event.

Safety improvements for Steve Irwin Way

Monarch Realty

New wide centre line treatments are being installed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) on sections of Steve Irwin Way to improve safety for motorists. Construction works have started at Landsborough from Forestry Road to the Mooloolah Connection Road at Glenview, and at Beerburrum from the Bruce Highway turn-off to Nursery Road, with completion by June 2015, weather permitting. These sections of Steve Irwin Way were chosen because of high rates of cross centre line crashes. The works will improve safety by separating through traffic along these two-way roads and reducing the potential for cross centre line crashes at these locations. Lane widths will be reduced to achieve a one metre separation between opposing traffic lanes. Similar treatments have been delivered at other locations around the state and these have demonstrated real safety benefits in terms of reducing fatigue-related head-on and single vehicle off-road crashes. Standard road rules for dividing lanes will still apply; the lines will just be marked one metre apart. Signs will be installed at locations along the road to reinforce to motorists the overtaking rules that apply to the different markings. Where two unbroken continuous lines are marked preventing overtaking, the lines will be supplemented with audio tactile treatments to combat the effects of fatigue.

This lowset villa features a lounge, well equipped kitchen, dining area, air conditioning, 2 spacious bedrooms, separate laundry, private garden and shed plus single carport. Twin Cedars Village is a gated community located between Glass House Mountains and Beerburrum, with excellent facilities, in-ground pool, spa, gym, hall and craft room, BBQ area, gardens and water features, a couple of minutes to train station to Brisbane and 20 minutes drive to beaches.

On sections of road with lower traffic volumes, works will be undertaken during daylight hours on weekdays. On higher volume sections, works will take place at night from Sunday to Thursday between 7.00pm and 5.00am. For the safety of roadworkers and motorists, changed traffic conditions will be in place, including lane closures and reduced speed limits. These road works are in addition to the Reed Street, Glass House Mountains intersection improvement which will also begin this year.

Training for world Ironman titles By Lea Parkes Last year Beerwah Ironman Damien Collins competed in his first Kona World Champion event in Hawaii where he took out third place in his age division. Now, following his recent success in the Melbourne Ironman Asia Pacific Championships, he has once again qualified for this year’s ‘World Title’ in October. The Melbourne event was a 3.9km swim (56 minutes), 180km bike ride (4.38 hours, with a 4 min penalty), along with a 42.2k run (3.07 hours). In total his time was 8.46.16 hours where he won the 25 - 29 age group by over 20 minutes, (he needed to place in the top four to qualify). In the lead up to Melbourne, Damien was doing between 28 - 35 hours training each week. You may have seen him running between Beerwah and Glenview along Steve Irwin Way with his dedicated dad Brad Collins. Brad, from First National Real Estate Beerwah, following him on the bike, had the job of being his ‘water boy’. Another Beerwah local that Damien would like to acknowledge is Erik Dodwell who he describes as his rock solid bike training partner. Damien said Erik was there at his door, rain, hail or shine every single day, and he’ll be there ready to do it all over again. At this year’s event in Hawaii, Damien is aiming to win an age group world title and be the first age grouper across the line at the World Champs, which he doesn’t say lightly. “Kona is a beast of a race, it doesn’t matter how

Damien is planning to step up his training in the lead up to Hawaii, so expect to see more of his dad on a bike, following his son, as he runs up Steve Irwin way!

ANZAC Day Local schedule

Locals dig deep for Thomas Last May, GC&M News brought you the story of how local Beerwah boy Thomas Robins wasn’t letting Cerebral Palsy get in his way of competing in the Santarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathalon. Recently members of the local community rallied and decided to help parents Rumalie and Shane Robins renovate their bathroom, so Thomas could be more self-sufficient. Rumalie explained that as Thomas is getting older he has been gaining basic movements which help him get around and become more independent. Their old bathroom layout was no longer suitable for Thomas’s needs. So they had a professional occupational therapist and builder assess the bathroom, and working with Maroochy Home Assist, have undertaken a bathroom renovation to totally assist Thomas now and into the future. Like most families facing everyday costs of living, and fixed financial obligations, they were not in a position to cover the total cost of the work required. Rumalie said they were fortunate to have some very kind locals organise a fund-raising raffle to make the bathroom renovations possible. “Many local and nearby businesses chipped in with prizes for a monster raffle, the proceeds of which went to pay for the completion of the bathroom renovations for Thomas,” she said. “This bathroom renovation will definitely be tremendous for him and his independence.” “We wish to thank everybody for their kind donations and support. Our community is just so caring and generous, it’s breathtaking to think people are so kind-hearted. “Please support the generous businesses that have helped with raffle donations,” said Rumalie.

New facilities for College Federal Member for Fisher, Mal Brough MP recently visited new facilities at Glasshouse Christian College. The College now has use of three primary general learning areas, two withdrawal rooms, three store rooms, a staff room, amenities and a covered area, in a project totalling approximately $3.85 million. Mr Brough said that the Australian Government provided funding as part of the Capital Grants Program. “I was pleased to visit the new facilities at Glasshouse Christian College which are part of a $475,000 funding investment from the Federal Government,” Mr Brough said. “I am very impressed by the design and how the layout will assist teachers to get the best out of their students,” Mr Brough said. The State Government also contributed $590,000 towards the new facilities. Glasshouse Christian College Principal Mike Curtis said that excitement about the new facility has been increasing since the foundation was first laid. “The young primary students loved watching the construction process during their breaks,” Mr Curtis said. “The new facility will house our three Year 1 classes and the staff and students can’t wait to move in,” he added. As part of the school’s upgrades they have also received a subsidy of $90,495 under the Queensland Government’s External infrastructure Subsidy Scheme. The Member for Caloundra said the upgrade consists of the widening of Roberts Road for earthworks, roadworks, new drainage, line marking and signage, footpaths, landscaping and professional fees. “This program significantly eases the costs to the College associated with this project. This Subsidy Scheme is available to all eligible non-state schools,” he said.

Anglican Centenary

Exhibition at Vianta

Contributed by Helen Page Sunday, March 15 was a special day for the Glasshouse Country Anglican community, as they marked the 100 year milestone since the opening of St James Church of England in March 1915. Many old friends who have been members of the Anglican congregation over the years returned for the celebration at the Mary MacKillop Centre; and it was wonderful to welcome visitors from other local churches. Thanks also to the Singing Belles for their musical contribution to the service. All involved gave thanks for the hard work and dedication of past generations who have fostered and supported the churches in our district. A special centenary cake was cut by Isabella (pictured), one of the youngest members of the present congregation, as a gesture of faith in the future.

This month the work of Robyn Shaw and Leigh Camilleri is being exhibited at Vianta. Robyn is a local artist who has farmed and raised her family in Glass House Mountains. You may have seen Leigh and Robyn sitting together sketching around Beerwah and Glass House. Although their work is very different, the pieces nicely complement each other. Leigh's evocative seascape of Rarotonga Bay and her impressions of masks at the market are pleasantly offset by the dynamic expressiveness of her abstractions constructed around the theme of ‘On Closer Inspection’. Robyn's more figurative works explore relationships - spatial and personal - between different aspects of the self, or between the person and the surrounding environment. The exhibition is on show until May 3 at Vianta Arts 70 Simpson Street Beerwah. For information about hanging a show at Vianta contact Michele at reddoorart@bigpond.com.au.

Swap pre-loved clothes Bring a bag of your once-loved clothes and jump into a swap fest at the Glasshouse Mountains Neighbourhood Centre. It’s a great way to clear out old gear and revamp your wardrobe. Bring pre-loved clothes, shoes and accessories in wearable condition in both adults’ and kids’ sizes. Everything will go out on tables, then you can rummage away! There will be free child minding. On Saturday, May 2, from 2.00pm - 4.00pm at the Glasshouse Mountains Neighbourhood Centre, Ryans Road, Glass House. Admission by gold coin donation. All welcome. For more information contact Helen on 0410 057 315.

Contributed by Paul Tarbuck (Maleny P&C) The Maleny State High School Parents’ and Citizens’ Association is inviting artists to participate in a community Art Sale. The proceeds from the sale will benefit the students at Maleny High School by enhancing school facilities and resources. The exhibition and sale will take place on June 6 – 7 at the Maleny High School Activities Centre. Artists are encouraged to contribute to the Grand Art Sale by offering one or more art works on consignment to be placed on sale at this event. Works can be in the wide genres of painting, sculpture, woodwork, glasswork, photography or other appropriate media. The P&C is eager to welcome visitors to this event and is seeking registrations of art works for sale. There are bound to be opportunities to sell and purchase items of high quality.

Readers photos

Ted Prickett from Peachester shared his recent pic of Wanda the Wallaby. Last year she had a boy called Willie. This year we are hoping for a girl, which we will call Willomena.

The school P&C will benefit through the charging of a non-refundable registration fee and a commission on items sold. There will also be food and drink for sale and a gold coin admission charge. The high school P&C sees this as a way to give exposure and potential sales opportunities for arts and crafts exponents while embarking on an inaugural fundraising event for the school which hopefully will be sustained and developed in the future. So don’t delay, if you would like to register one or more art pieces, and make sure you note the date in your diary or calendar. It’s not far off and the school would like to see as many people as possible attend and participate. Registration information will be placed at various outlets, at the high school office and through the website link https://malenyshs.eq.edu.au/ calendarandnews/news/pages/grandartsale.aspx

Menshed assisting the older community Recently the Menshed received a request from Embracia in Glasshouse Country and Friends of Eden, the volunteer support group who raise funds to support the residents of Embracia. The Friends have purchased a portable ‘Brain Trainer’ which is shared between the residents. A need was identified for a portable desk / trolley with storage compartments and a non-slip top. Fred Carr, the president of the Friends, contacted GCMS to see if the men could build the required unit. The men had a chat about the project, and pondered over the supplied sketch, as they often do with a cuppa in hand. Frank Dredge offered to take on the project. The week before Easter the men delivered the unit to Embracia in Glasshouse Country Beerwah facility. If you are a Glasshouse Country local bloke who would like to meet some fantastic blokes, come along to the shed at 352 Peachester Read on any Wednesdays morning from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

Limes – goodness me! It looks like an early start to the citrus season up here on the Range and to start it all off, there will be local limes a plenty, on offer at this Saturday’s Growers’ Market.

However, it was after completing an 11 day silent meditation retreat in 2011, that Leanda’s desire to become a certified Yoga teacher came to fruition. Her passion for learning the ancient art of Yoga instruction saw her follow her heart and journey to the birth place of Yoga … India. Drawn to Yoga Vidya Gurukul in the township of Trimbak Nasik, Leanda lived in the Ashram whilst completing her training and qualified as a Yoga teacher with international accreditation. The greatest gift was not realised until returning to Australia, that her intuition had not only drawn her to train in the country of ancient Yoga, but to the exact birth town Tryambakeshwar (Nasik). It is reported that Lord Shiva in his incarnate of Goraksha Nath initiated Yogi’s into the Nath tradition more commonly known today as Hatha Yoga (reference: ‘Babaji The Lightning Standing Still’ by Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath). You can pray or chant your way to Heaven but how do you get Peace on Earth? Meditation Teacher * Physic Card Reader * Divine Source Enhancement Therapist Prana Yoga Teacher * Vision Guide * Kriya Yogi Craig believes peace is always from within, and after studying with a Buddhist monk in 2006, Craig chose to sell his hotel-motel business and study the masters of Buddhism and Yogic traditions. The teachings of ancient Yoga and meditation techniques drew him to India. After his 2011 trip he was initiated as a Kriya Yogi – practitioner of breathe Yoga as taught by the master Paramahansa Yogananda. The ability to calm the mind opened the doorway for Craig to facilitate physic card readings, and guide clients in their quest to for fill their goals, utilising their numerology and astrology. At times it is beneficial for the client to release old patterns, like addiction and depression, via the Divine Source Enhancement Therapy. Craig’s personal experience in these conditions sees his complete empathy and compassion for those that are trying to release their habits or as they are called in Yogic tradition, Sanskara’s. Craig’s clients often benefit from the use of crystals for their own healing, or as a tool to develop their own personal intuition. All crystals in-store at The Healthy Guru are personally hand selected by Craig, sourced from suppliers of international crystals. Craig stated the focus at this time is very much on the sacred geometry shape of the crystals i.e. pyramids, double terminators, conductors and pendulums are of great benefit for those that wish to connect.

A normal meeting

Contributed by Judith Mason At our March meeting 30 members and guests sat down to an enjoyable lunch at the Beerwah Hideaway. Having paid for our lunch, bought our raffle tickets, and reviewed the sales table, we then had our usual round of chatter and catch up. All too soon it was time for our meeting conducted by President Gwen Simcoe, and with that over, lunch was served. With March being the month of International Women’s Day, we asked our guest speaker, Lea Parkes, to give us an insight into running a successful newspaper. Lea talked about the team of mainly part-time women and one man (Lea’s husband Brownie) and how dedicated they all were to bringing the paper to the community each week. She also talked about the changes, having recently expanded her paper; it now includes more news from Maleny and is titled ‘Glasshouse Country & Maleny News’. Margaret drew the Lucky door and won it herself! Yvonne and Virginia won the raffles.

School News Helping Vanuatu

‘Rise, and Shine’

By Sandy Johnson Glasshouse Christian College students have been moved by the plight of the Vanuatu people after the devastation of Cyclone Pam and wanted to do something to help. So the student leaders put their heads together and asked the Hospitality Department to help out. On Wednesday, March 25, students held a bake (cookies) and shake (milkshakes) sale which was sold out within a very short time. But this wasn’t all they planned. The following Wednesday, April 1, primary students dressed up in a tropical theme or as someone that could help in the wake of a cyclone. Students love any excuse to dress up, but this cause really motivated them to do it in style. There were hula girls, builders, police, army, doctors and nurses and even cleaners and business people. The ‘fine’ for being out of uniform was a gold coin donation which will go to the victims of cyclone Pam. Funds raised from this event totalled $886.15. Glasshouse Christian College Uniform Shop was able to donate five big boxes of new colourful T-shirts to the children of Vanuatu.

Three local high school students, Ashleigh Clare of Beerwah State High School, Nichola Bates of Glasshouse Christian College, and Evie Barnes of Maleny State High School joined other high achieving Year 11 students from across Sunshine Coast during a special VIP tour of the University of the Sunshine Coast recently.

Ashleigh

Nichola

Evie

The tour provided the recipients of USC’s inaugural ‘Rise, and Shine Awards’ with several treats, including a lesson in Quidditch – the game made famous by JK Rowling’s Harry Potter book series – from members of USC’s fledgling Quidditch team. The ‘Rise, and Shine Awards’ were presented late last year to 15 Year 10 duxes and high academic achievers who have registered to participate in USC’s award-winning Headstart program during 2015. These awards cover the cost of one course of Headstart – an innovative program that allows Year 11 and 12 students to study universitylevel subjects while earning credits towards both a Queensland Certificate of Education and a USC degree.

The Prep students proudly displayed their colourful creations at the Easter Bonnet Parade

Easter Bonnet Parade

Contributed by Kylie Merola Landsborough State School celebrated the end of term in style with its annual Easter bonnet parade and Easter concert. There were plenty of bunnies, eggs and feathers on show as students were given the chance to express their creativity. Children were full of excitement as they displayed their colourful creations in front of their family, friends and fellow students. About 180 children from Prep to Year 3 participated in the parade, donning the hats created during class. There were also songs performed by each class including My Choc'late Rabbit, Easter Hip Hop, If you love the Easter Bunny and the Chicken Dance. The Easter Bunny even made a surprise visit to hand out Easter Eggs to all of the children. Principal Kristy Walton said the Easter Bonnet Parade is a school tradition at Landsborough State School. “It is definitely one of the junior school's favourite activities of the year. It is always wonderful to see so many supportive parents come along to admire the creations and join in the fun!"

Andrew Prescott

President: Glasshouse Country Chamber of Commerce

Thanks to all those that attended our last very successful Network Meeting held at the Beerwah RSL. Welcome to the new members, we look forward to your participation and being able to assist you with your businesses. ‘Free Range Camping’ recently held two very informative sessions presenting details of their latest product and how it can assist small business in our community. All of the Chamber members that attended indicated they will be taking Rob and Glen up on their offer of free registration on their web based service to promote registered businesses and our community. If you would like an opportunity to do the same, and I strongly recommend you do, Rob can be contacted on 0404 344 625 or go to their website www. freerangecamping.com.au and register. Rob and Glen are great to deal with, and are focused on supporting small business in our community. In fact, Beerwah is the test pilot for their product, and it would be great to see as many businesses as possible get behind them and support their offering and the Beerwah community at large. Two weeks ago I attended the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) meeting. One of the things that was discussed was the need for local Chambers and the CCIQ to lobby local members to put pressure on the apparent lack of urgency in relation to the roll out of NBN. This affects many businesses and households and as a Chamber we can make our voices heard. The more Chamber members we have, the greater that voice will be. Thank you to Glass House Country & Maleny News and Beerwah RSL for their continued support of the Chamber and its members. For more information about what the Chamber is doing currently, and what it has planned for the near future, please come along to our next meeting. Meeting dates and venues can be found at our website www. glasshousemountains.com.au

Glass House Mountains Figure Transformation Coach, Bianca Aiono Robertson was really pleased to be advised that her ‘Love Your Body Lean’ Re-School program was selected as a finalist for the People’s Choice Category for ‘Best Weight Management Program of the Year’ as part of the Global Weight Management Congress. Bianca said the winner is decided in number of votes. “I’m up against Michelle Bridges and a number of other big fish, so it's quite intimidating really, but to be selected as a finalist is great,” she said. To support Bianca just go to www.globalweightmanagement.org and go to ‘Industry Awards’ and ‘Vote Now’ to select Love Your Body Lean as the People's Choice Best Weight Management Program of the Year. To find out more about Bianca’s program check out her website www.bionicafitwarrior.com Embracia has recently opened a 75 bed residential aged care home in the charming and historic township of Woodford. Embracia owners Peter and Dawn MacKenzie encourage everyone to view ageing and moving into aged care as a continuation of a life worth living and where people continue to learn, grow and remain in charge of their destiny. The home will cater for low-level through to high-level care needs of residents and will have a dedicated household for residents living with dementia or memory loss. The experienced manager of the home, Christine Hawkes, has been appointed from another well-respected Embracia home in nearby Beerwah and shares that “it’s the quality of our care and our attention to personalising it, that sets us apart.” Embracia residents have the freedom to live as they choose; if a resident wants to get up at a different time every morning, or visit an art gallery for an afternoon, or have friends to meet at our cafe, we are here to support them to do that,” she said. At Embracia in Woodford, residents will be able to enjoy the comfort of their own room with private ensuite, built in wardrobe, heating system, ceiling fan and phone point, flat screen TV, as well as a nurse call system. Living - Crafts The craft of paper tole

By Sonia Clark Noreen Bice is a paper tole craft artist who lives in Maleny. Paper tole is also known as threedimensional decoupage and involves creating three-dimensional pictures from flat images. This handcraft is created by a process of cutting, arranging and assembling a layered number of prints of the same picture to create a threedimensional version. Once completed, the works are often framed and displayed as wall art. Using skills of precision, patience and perspective, paper tole is a craft that originated in Europe over 200 years ago. Noreen has been creating paper tole art for over 25 years. She has always enjoyed craft work and previously managed a handicraft stall with her daughter for many years at the old Buderim Ginger factory. They sold general craft items, paintings and decoupage work. She discovered the craft of paper tole upon visiting a craft fair in Melbourne in the early 1990’s where she came across an artist who had brought the craft over from Canada. Noreen

May Fair in Maleny

became interested in exploring paper tole and developed her skills to the level of being able to travel around Australia holding classes which were especially popular in regional towns. Generally the process uses four to eight prints of the same picture which are then carefully cut out individually using a specialised craft knife. The cut out prints are then glued one on top of each other to create the final artwork. If you would like to find out more about the craft of paper tole please contact Noreen on 5499 9898.

Dine In

Great eats and treats in Maleny! with Lea Parkes

Cafe de Fudge Last weekend, we headed to Cafe de Fudge, next door to the Big Barrel Winery on the road to Maleny for brunch. We caught up with husband and wife team, Mick and Julie Ryan, who recently celebrated their first year at the cafe. Mick said they have loved every minute of it so far! After working at their convenience store in Nambour for seven years, seven months and seven days, for seven days a week, they now are going with the flow of the more relaxed Maleny environment. “What’s not to like,” says Julie, “the locals and visitors are friendly, customers really enjoy making time to relax and catch up with friends

and family – they are a pleasure to serve.” Offering a great range of lunch and snack options, we shared a devonshire tea which included a cherry and ginger scone, but you can also choose plain or date scones. We also enjoyed a tasty beef filo pastry with salad, which hit the spot. But it was difficult to make a choice, as they have a great selection of savoury items in the cabinet to choose from.

For the coffee lovers, they use local Glass House Mountains Coffee. Mick also has his own baby he has been perfecting from their fudge range. His latest offer, hot chilli fudge, has a definite kick! “It’s only for the brave,” laughs Mick, “chilli lovers think it’s great – try it if you dare!” Call in for free taste testing, and stay for lunch.

Things To Do Everything must go

Golf for fun and fundraising

A touching comedy set in a changing country town in the Huon Valley in Tasmania, the play is written and performed by Rachel Leary. Nancy Browne who has lived in the same house, the same valley all her life, has to move and is having a garage sale where everything must go. The valley has changed - city people, ‘treechangers’, have moved in bringing with them new ideas and new ways. Now, the farm has been sold. A developer has bought it and is going to create a suburb on it, ‘Perfect Ponds’. The wider world has encroached and Nancy has to make sense of it. Absurd, deadpan, charming and disarming, Nancy Browne’s world is unique. This eccentric view of the world speaks to the changes that are occurring in towns all across Australia. The play is being hosted by the Maleny Arts Council on Sunday, April 26, 5.30pm at the Maleny Community Centre Hall - followed by complimentary early evening drinks on the deck with Rachel. Tickets are $22.00 for members and $25.00 for non-members and bookings can be made in person at Maleny Visitor Information Centre (no credit card facilities) or book on-line via www.malenyartscouncil.com For more information phone John Marsden on 5494 2584.

Glenview Tennis Club will host a Golf Day as a fundraiser at the Beerwah Golf Club on Sunday, May 3, at 12.30pm for a 1.00pm start. If you can get a team of four players together that would be great or if you would like to be placed into a team all you need to do is register with Kelly on 0422 903 801. After the nine holes of golf there will be a barbeque back at the tennis club, Mooloolah Connection Road, Glenview. The cost for the golf and barbecue is $40.00 per player.

Wood Expo almost here It is that time once again, when the Maleny Showground comes alive with all things wood, when Burang Landcare brings together some of the Sunshine Coast’s most talented woodworkers and artists for this year’s Maleny Wood Expo. Along with the amazing displays and demonstrations, there is an impressive range of activities on the program for the weekend of May 2 and 3 from 9.00am – 5.00pm each day. Maleny’s Donald Powell, a multi-award-winning wood sculptor, will hold a two-day Hand Held Carving Workshop. Don teaches extensively, he is a virtuoso carver, his work ranges from miniature to life size and is characterised by realism and exceptional attention to detail. Another Maleny favourite, Richard Knight, will run a full day workshop in which participants will construct a milking stool using traditional mortise and tenon joints and simple hand tools. Steveo of Wooden Surfboards Shapes, will teach skateboarders and budding wood artists how to build their own, unique skateboard deck, from sustainably harvested timber. Local blues duo Eb’n’Flo (aka Fleur Shelton and Paul Thorley) will take you on a musical journey through the blues, as they teach students young and old to build a Diddleybow (single-stringed instrument) from recycled materials and found objects. Local sculpture and installation artist, Kris Martin will hold several two-hour ‘Weaving with Cat’s Claw – a Weed of National Significance’ workshops over the weekend. For bookings, or for more information on the Maleny Wood Expo’s 2015 exciting Workshop program, visit www.malenywoodexpo.com

In the February flood, five cows were washed down from grazing farms at the top of the Mooloolah River catchment (the owners are yet to be identified). One of these cows landed at Hell Hole at Mooloolah on the river bank and caused quite a stink amongst the community living there. One of our local residents and heroes Brian quickly erected a fence to stop any pollution going into the river. This task took him three days and I would like to thank Brian for his dedication in helping the Mooloolah River and the residents of Hell Hole. Jan Kesby Mooloolah River Landcare and Waterwatch

Thank you

Since moving to Glasshouse Country more than 18 months ago I know will never live anywhere else but this beautiful place. My Catholic Church has welcomed me with open arms, and I feel that I have finally found a place to belong. I have taken on the role of deputy area co-ordinator for Beerwah Neighbourhood Watch. I have only been in that position for a little while but everyone has made me feel very welcome. I just want to say thank you for everyone who has made me feel welcome from shop owners to the cafes. One café in particular is Pasta d’Vine, they’ve made me feel so much at home, with such friendly staff and owners Sue and Oskar. I eat there quite a lot, because of the beautiful food, and the really kind people. Julianne Dickinson Beerwah

Re: Disdain for Communities

On April 1 – maybe an April Fool’s Day joke – NBN announced its next visit to Maleny for a Community Information Session. This continues with the NBN’s ‘divide and conquer’ mentality and shows absolute disdain for our communities: • It is to be an ‘information meeting’ and not a ‘consultation meeting’ • Not a general meeting – ‘one on one’ information only • Implied refusal to discuss other areas • A company the size of NBN Co with no capacity to facilitate an open question session • Requiring Peachester people to come to Maleny to hear about a scheme in their area • Only part of their proposal for the area to be covered • Gloating about the number of local communities that have been overrun by the NBN juggernaut Be upset and demand real consultation for a towerless NBN for Maleny hinterlands. There will be an alternate information kiosk and presentation sessions run at the same time to enable people to understand the issues and how to lodge objections to upcoming Development Applications. Jim Straker Maleny

Thank you

I want to say a big thank you to the lovely lady who found my phone outside Beerwah Woolworths on Sunday afternoon and handed it into the service desk. This was after she had made an effort to call some of the people in my contacts list in an effort to let me know it had been found. Had she not gone to this effort I may not have even realised it was missing until after the store closed as it was not until my sister called me at home to say it had been found that I 26

realised I didn't have it. I would like especially to thank her for her honesty as it could have been an expensive mistake for me had it been someone less honest who had found it, not to mention the inconvenience required to replace it. Whoever you may be thank you very much and best wishes. I hope someday that if you find yourself in a similar situation that someone is kind enough to do the same for you. It was much appreciated. Re: Mountains returning to volcanos

It is with great interest that I read your article on page 6 of GC&M News of April 1 about the possibility of the Glass House Mountains becoming volcanoes again. Given that the last eruption of any of these mountains was considered to be 26 - 27 million years ago, what potential we have for tourism going forward. Just think of all the opportunities we have to draw people to this area waiting to have front row access to these future eruptions. This should be a local economic boom for all our small businesses. Until of course, we all get swept away by magma flows. I, for one, will be spending much time wearing my bike helmet, walking the trails around our beautiful mountains, taking ground temperatures and looking for any signs of gaseous evidence. I will be sure to keep you posted. Maude, President, Sub Branch GHM, EVWSA (Extinct Volcano Watch Society of Australia)

Not rocket science

Unfortunately just recently a very well-known long-time resident of Sahara Road, Glass House Mountains passed away. Being unable to attend this man’s funeral I sent a sympathy card to the family at Sahara Road, but didn’t know the number of the residence. Silly me thought as there would have been numerous other cards, it would be delivered. Yesterday the card in question arrived back to me with a big finger sticker saying ‘Insufficient address’. I was not very happy. I approached our local Post Office owners who were just as frustrated as me. It was explained to me that the ‘Posties’ are under contract to Australia Post and therefore the Post Office owners are not allowed to chastise these employees at all. There is a phone number that the complainant has to ring with their grievance. I cannot come to terms with the fact that a person delivering mail five days a week does not know the names of the people on their mail route, or if there is extra mail (card size) that something is or has happened in that household. Not rocket science in my book. Are we as employees not capable of showing some initiative or are we not allowed to in case we invade a privacy act or some other law that the majority of us do not know about? I am going to hand deliver my mail to this family now and hope they understand the lateness of it. In fact any local mail in future might be better

hand delivered. Then if it is important at least you know it is where it should be. I feel sorry for the Post Office owners as they probably get a lot of abuse that is being wrongly directed. Diane Clancy Glass House Mountains

Re: NBN towers

Advertisements in local papers last week (GC&M News, April 1) from NBN Co told locals they are back with Microwave Wireless Towers to provide what they call high-speed broadband. NBN has held two local meetings in Maleny which they called ‘community consultation’. They didn't amount to much as there was nothing about where towers would be placed and choices. And we rural dwellers learnt that Maleny township itself would get broadband up to four times faster than anything delivered by a tower in the hinterland. NBN promised last year ‘to bring proposals forward for discussion prior to any lodging of Development Applications’. So we get three wireless towers colocated at Montville, Wilkes Knob and Witta, and one new construction at Peachester. The proposed new tower at Peachester is likely to be in the Storrs Road vicinity. This tower will be a weight around the neck of any landholder who has decided to take a contract with NBN Co because of the extraordinary binding 20 year contracts they give one to sign. You can't even sell your land without an NBN Co okay. NBN didn't consult the community of Peachester. They did not hold public meetings in the town. And now they're holding a meeting in Maleny, 30 minutes by car from Peachester and they call it ‘consultation’. The meeting is at 4.00pm when people are still at work and children have just come home from school. What sort of consultation is that after the tower location has already been decided? It’s sheer arrogance on the part of NBN. And the co-location (meaning attached to an existing Teleco tower) of Maleny towers indicates no council Development Application is needed if the extension to that tower is less than five metres. Our citizens will have no say at all with any NBN towers in our districts. Richard Giles Conondale

War on Weeds - time to take action

Council is calling on the community to take up the fight against weeds. Residents are encouraged to come along to a local community nature conservation project taking place through May at numerous locations regionwide including Beerwah, Woombye and Montville and participate in the War on Weeds program by swapping a bag of weeds from your garden for three native replacement plants. The program aims to raise awareness about the problems that seemingly innocent runaway garden plants cause to natural areas on the sunshine coast and how the community can help prevent this with just a little consideration. Open gardens in Montville Get Up & Grow with Jade King

Perfect potatoes

April has got to be the best month to plant just about everything you will need for winter and early spring. In the subtropics, these cooler autumn to winter months are the best growing times, and the least challenging. We are in the midst of harvesting our fresh young ginger and bountiful turmeric and will be doing so over the coming months. It is rewarding to be getting such a great harvest after six months of nurturing it … especially over summer with weeds growing rapid and rampant. In between this, we will be planting up, particularly potatoes. Potatoes! There is simply nothing better than a fresh potato that you have grown yourself, and they seriously can be grown anywhere. As long as you have a spot that receives about six to eight hours of sun a day, you can grow potatoes. Planting in haybales is a great way to grow potatoes in small areas. Haybale Potatoes This has the potential to yield more than 40 fresh potatoes for very little work or room. Turning the straw bale on its side so that the baling twine encompasses the sides, you start by saturating along the middle of the bale over a couple of days. This is followed by a couple of days sprinkling blood and bone along the center and watering it in lightly. After about eight to 10 days your haybale will have composted nicely in the centre. Now you just make fist size holes, about 15 cm deep and plant in your seed potato, covering back over with hay. Sprinkle some dynamic lifter over the top and water. The bale will need to be kept moist with daily watering and liquid feeds of fish emulsion fortnightly. A sprinkle of dynamic lifter again when the plants are getting quite leafy, will see it through its peak production period too. A few weeks after the potato plant flowers, you can start to bandicoot out some ‘new’ potatoes. Once the foliage starts to die back, then you can begin your potato harvest in earnest. I’m planning my haybale potatoes in around my young orchard trees so that any nutrients that leach from the bales feeds my trees and once finished, the hay will be great compost and mulch. I hope everyone gets a chance to taste some fresh spuds this year. Until next time in Get Up and Grow!

Jade likes her family to be able to live as self sufficiently as possible from her garden and she loves to share her knowledge with others.

Gympie Garden Expo On Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, the Gympie Garden Expo once again promises to shine. There will be fascinating plant displays, one of the state’s largest collection of orchids, informative talks, the ever popular plant clinic, local garden competitions and market stalls, offering plants, orchids and a myriad of garden accessories to compliment the home gardener. Jerry Coleby-Williams of Gardening Australia fame is inviting people to join him at the Gympie Garden Expo this year. On May 2 Jerry will be discussing organic basics, home orchards and his incredibly popular Q&A session where you can bring along plants, bugs or diseases for identification and doctoring. As well as Jerry, there will be a host of guest speakers, displays and workshops for your gardening delight. Gates are open from 8.00am - 4.00pm on Saturday and 8.00am - 3.00pm on Sunday. Admission is $5.00 each day with children and parking free.

If you fancy having a poke around someone else’s gardens then you will want to check out the three Montville Gardens open Anzac Weekend April 25 and 26. They will be open 10.00am – 4.30pm with entry into each of the gardens being $8.00. ‘Montville Macadamery’, surrounding the 1926 former home of noted Queensland novelist Eleanor Dark is a stunning and generous garden of mature semi-tropical plantings, shady poincianas, frangipanis and palms. Go Green Rainforest Nursery

Plant of the Week

Small Leaved Tamarind

Diploglottis campbellii In the wild this is an extremely rare plant, found only in a few small pockets in the far north east of NSW and Mudgeeraba on the Gold Coast. In a garden situation, it makes a handsome small tree with lush foliage and showy fruits. It grows between 5m to 8m tall and is ideal as a street tree, in a rainforest plot, or as bush tucker planting. The fruit makes an excellent jam or sauce but we quite like it straight off the tree. The yellow fruits split to reveal the red juicy aril. A fantastic tree for gardens of all sizes.

them each school holidays, for how we would spend our time together. I would sit with them the first day of the holidays and plan, not just talk but write it all down. We would plan a day at home, a day outing (even if it was to the park or a train ride into the city); then a rest day; this was the day they got to do their thing while I worked in the home (doing all the things parents need to do to maintain harmony and provision (cooking, cleaning etc.) This worked for me, and I dare say it has worked for my kids; as I now see them planning activities in the holidays that have them saying; there is not enough time in the holidays to do all we want with the kids. Their hope is that they can create more time enjoying the time with their children. Back to school comes around too quick…

I made a vow to my kids when my first child was just a tiny two year old; to make every moment with her and any other children I may have special and set in a positive memory. This was not an idle vow, I believe any vow or promise is not to be made lightly. As my children grew, I made meticulous plans with

Sport Cross Country Capers

Contributed by Andrea Balcombe P&C The enthusiasm for the Peachester Primary School Cross Country run was not dampened by the threatening clouds overhead the last Thursday morning before the holidays. Many parents and friends turned out to cheer on the children who had been in training for weeks leading up to the big event. Stanley versed Coochin and Coochin were determined to break Stanley's two year winning streak. The Seniors lead the way, competing over six laps of the school. The 10-year-olds ran two kilometres while the 11 and 12-year-olds had to complete three long, gruelling kilometres. Excited Preppies lined up next to run their 500m race, each supported and championed on by a volunteer senior student. All the children competed in their age categories and first, second and third girls and boys from each age group were awarded a ribbon. Coochin were finally triumphant, gaining 111 points to Stanley's 102. Finally Coochin has had a Cross Country win!

Contributed by Jodie Diefenbach On Thursday, April 9, the Maleny Bushrangers Junior Rugby Union club welcomed and hosted 22 school boys from Washington State with their three coaches. The Chuckanut Bay Rugby Union club visited Australia on their Southern Hemisphere Tour playing teams in Brisbane, Toowoomba and Maleny. On Friday the visitors went to Australia Zoo to meet our local wildlife. They were all quite excited to see koalas and kangaroos. Then on Friday night, the Maleny Bushrangers hosted their first international game of rugby where their under 17’s played the Chuckanut Bay School Boys team. It was a terrific atmosphere and both teams did extremely well. Maleny started to dominate in the first half, however the visitors fought back in the second half. Final score – Maleny (38) Chuckanut Bay (35). The game was followed by a Maleny Apex barbecue dinner and live music from local musician ‘Barnsey’. Jake Christianson and Cooper Gillingham were awarded ‘Man of the Match’ by the visitors. On Saturday the Chuckanut Rugby team went to Maroochydore for a surfing lesson and sightseeing in Mooloolaba. Even though the weather was not that great, they managed to enjoy themselves. Sunday was time to say our farewells. It was a wonderful experience for all involved and the Maleny Bushrangers will have certainly made long term friendships with all the Chuckanut Bay Rugby team. Hopefully one day the favour can be returned and our players can experience an international tour in Washington State! www.gcnews.com.au

Top effort from local boxers Our young local boxers have again shown that the region is a hot-spot for possible future champions, after competing at the Queensland State Trials in late March. The Acacia Ridge contest was a selection tournament for the State teams to compete at the National Championships on the Gold Coast in a couple of weeks (April 27 – May 2). Athletes from the Beerwah’s Hinterland Boxing Club and Landsborough’s Handful Boxing Club competed, with all four young boxers doing us proud. Stephen Pitt, from Hinterland Boxing Club was over the moon that three from three of his boxers have made the Queensland team. “Dana Coolwell boxed well in the final of the 46 kg division against a highly fancied opponent. Dana looked strong in his weight division

boxing to a convincing win and a place in the Queensland team,” he said. “Taylen Pitt moved up to the 75kg division and booked a spot on the team for the Nationals next month. In his challenge bout Taylen boxed well in spurts, and will be better for the outing, after going down in a close decision.” Tiarna Collins boxed in the Elite Female 60kg division and also gained selection to box at the Nationals. “She stepped up against a very experienced and classy opponent and did not look out of place,” Stephen said of the up-and-comer. “This was only Tiarna's sixth fight of her career and she boxed beyond her experience, going down in a unanimous decision. “Tiarna never gave up and will be a genuine threat as she becomes more experienced. “This is a great achievement for our relatively new club and again a reflection on how hard our athletes work,” said Stephen. Stephen’s skill as a trainer has also been recognised and he has been selected as a Queensland boxing coach. Brett W. Smith from Handful Boxing Club was equally proud of his young protégé, 15-year-old Jake Molloy. “Jake had a great victory at State trials,” praised Brett. “He beat a 2014 Australian champion to win his spot on the Queensland team at Nationals next month in the 52kg division.

BEE GEES Jake Molloy with his Queensland title

The Hinterland Boxing Club team – Tiarna Collins, Dana Coolwell, Stephen Pitt and Taylen Pitt “This was a great performance and I can tell you that I’m a very proud coach. “This is a big year, as they have the Junior / Youth World Games in Russia in September, and winning this selection is the first step towards Russia,” said Brett.

Just for Laughs

It Costs No More To Hire A Proven Professional

Born a Lutheran Each Friday night after work, Ole would fire up his barbecue on the shore of Arthurs Lake and cook a venison steak. All of Ole's neighbours were Catholic, and since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on a Friday. The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks wafted over the neighbourhood and was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest. The Priest came to visit Ole, and suggested that he become a Catholic. After several classes and much study, Ole attended Mass, and as the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said, "you were born a

Lutheran and raised a Lutheran but now you are a Catholic." Ole's neighbours were relieved, until Friday night arrived and the wonderful aroma of grilled venison filled the neighbourhood. The Priest was called immediately by the neighbours and he rushed over to Ole's place clutching a rosary and prepared to scold him, he stopped and watched in amazement. There stood Ole, clutching a small bottle of holy water which he carefully sprinkled over the grilling meat and chanted, "you vuz born a deer, you vuz raised a deer, but now you is a rainbow trout." There may be perhaps a separations or feeling of isolation. New starts are strongly suggested to obtain more fun out of life or children. CAPRICORN December 23 – January 19 With the Sun entering Taurus for a month, from next Monday, April 20, this will add a deeper sense of parenting, recreation, romance and pleasurable pursuits. The new Moon on Saturday makes your home a centre piece for family and talks about fresh starts for all members. AQUARIUS January 20 – February 19 This new Moon on April 18 focuses your attention on any interstate travel that is necessary or worthwhile. Some new ideas and options can come up for your consideration. There may be more gardening or house repairs to be made, or more activities around the home at this time. PISCES February 20 – March 20 This new Moon will see the end of the Aries month on Saturday and the beginning of the Taurean birthdays on Monday. With the Sun in Taurus, after the new Moon on the weekend, you will be much more communicative and busy with paper work, emails and phone calls.

LEO July 23 – August 22 This is the weekend coming which moves your ambitions into an assertive career push. The planets of Mars, Venus, Mercury and the Sun are all acting constructively for you. Focus your attention on educational matters and if you don’t travel at this time, plan for an exciting trip. VIRGO August 23 – September 22 Most Virgos after 7.42pm on Monday, April 20 will find that for 30 days, as the Sun moves through the sign of Taurus, at least two out of three wishes will come true. The new Moon on Saturday says it’s your chance to make a new start. Time for you to plant the new seeds to grow profusely. LIBRA September 23 – October 22 You can acquire keen insights from this weekend, especially aided by the new Moon in Aries. There will be, of course, matters of money, power and control as the Sun sign moves into Taurus. This Saturday’s new Moon in Aries is a powerful symbol to breathe life into new relationships. SCORPIO October 23 – November 22 There is a healthy new Moon this weekend that makes you think about setting up a new work or health routine. Something that will keep pace with all the current changes. Key relationships are important to maintain even if you are in a contrary mood. Don’t push others around.

Week beginning 15/04/2015 ARIES March 21 – April 20 This weekend the new Moon will focus your attention on all your personal objectives, giving the green light for starting up some new ventures. Choose your goal and then take the initiative to go after it. New Moon periods are always perfect for laying down new seeds for later harvest. TAURUS April 21 – May 21 If you have wanted something to happen you are about to get a big push this weekend with the new Moon servicing your repressed needs and impulsively, or with anger, it is best to release any toxins in a healthy way to make for a fresh start. Friends are there when needed. GEMINI May 22 – June 21 With the new Moon on the weekend, in the last degrees of Aries, this will see you putting a positive accent on new friendships and group activities. If possible this is a very important time to make a fresh start in your life. Reach out and gather other people’s support and companionship. CANCER June 22 – July 22 The Sun’s entrance into the sign of Taurus over this weekend is just after the new Moon in Aries in the last degree of that sign. Therefore this motivates you to act on your feelings and socialise with a purpose, perhaps looking to help the farmers in drought stricken areas now.
