Hi Everyone
W
ell anyone that knows me, will be aware that when it comes to prize draws, I am not what you would describe as lucky! In the past, even when I have a lucky draw ticket and everyone receives a prize, my ticket has been the 112th drawn out of 112, which not surprisingly means that there isn’t too much choice left on the prize table. I have learnt to accept that this is my lot in life and have no bitterness to the hand that I have been dealt, however last week, this worked in my favour. This year we had agreed to be one of the sponsors for the Maleny Show and we were invited to the evening where they announce which sponsors ‘win’ the naming rights of the different pavilions / arenas etc. Having never been to this event before, I wasn’t aware that they run a reverse draw, yep you guessed it, the winner is the last man standing – well the last ticket in the box – so of course – it was GCNews!! So when you head to the show this year keep a look out for the ‘GCNews Entertainment Arena’ yep finally being lucky last was just great! Regards,

Local pineapple and ginger farmers would be heartened by the findings of a Senate committee looking at the importation of overseas produce. The recently released report on the effect on Australian farmers of importing fresh pineapple from Malaysia; fresh ginger from Fiji; and potatoes from New Zealand found that previous Import Risk Analyses (IRA’s) were based on flawed information. Leading agricultural representative group Growcom’s Chief Advocate Rachel Mackenzie, has called on Federal Minister for Agriculture Barnaby Joyce to overturn the IRA’s, saying the Minister must pay heed to the committee’s recommendations. “These are based on scientific analyses of the very real threats to domestic production from identified pests, including bacterial fruit collapse and heart rot in pineapples,” said Ms Mackenzie. “The findings of the committee are unequivocal that the federal Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF Biosecurity) has been lax in protecting Australia’s biosecurity. “Growcom has strongly advocated for years that the scientific data should be given careful consideration but DAFF dismissed this as

This year on Anzac Day, Glenview local Lee Dominick, secretary of the 5th Light Horse Regiment Maleny Troop and her tacked up but rider-less horse Ben, will lead the parade at Maleny.
Jacquiline-Lee brings Benny to visit Bob last Christmas
The stirrups will be reversed, with a pair of boots tied the wrong way onto the stirrups, the act signifying that the deceased rider is riding in spirit one more time and is looking back over the troop. The significance of the action will be even more moving this year for Lee as she will be thinking of one of Ben’s former owners, Bob Allen, who sadly past away earlier this year. Mr Allen, who suffered from dementia, lived at Blue Care Erowal Aged Care Facility in Maleny, and the special relationship between himself and the horse he called ‘Benny’ came to light when the 5th Light Horse Regiment Maleny Troop made a visit to the nursing home on Remembrance Day 2012. Erowal Aged Care Facility Service Manager Jane Suller said what residents, staff and guests witnessed brought a tear to the eyes of many. “On the visit Benny began to play up so much that riders dismounted in an attempt to calm him, when Bob moved forward to lay down the poppies on the memorial, the former rider and his horse were reunited and Benny became serene and quiet. “Then Mr Allen, a former 5th Light Horse Regiment Maleny Troop Quartermaster, suddenly started speaking to Benny about their old times, which was an emotional and moving moment as Mr Allen rarely spoke.” Seeing Benny once again had triggered so many memories and Bob began reminiscing about their various adventures, during the five years he rode and took care of Benny. Until the end of the service, Benny stayed quietly by his side. Benny became a regular visitor to the Blue Care Erowal Aged Care Facility with the 5th Light Horse Regiment Maleny Troop and was always
led to Mr Allen in the Memory Support Unit. Lee said Quartermasters often develop a close relationship with the horses taking on the tasks of maintaining equipment, such as horse saddles, while they also have to schedule vet appointments for the horses. “After Mr Allen was diagnosed with dementia, Benny changed owners several times until our family decided to purchase him. We began bringing Benny along to Blue Care Erowal for special occasions, such as Christmas or Anzac Day. “The last time Mr Allen saw Benny was just before Christmas and it was remarkable once again to see Mr Allen speaking and laughing. And when my daughter Jacquiline-Lee told him not to worry that she would look after Benny forever, he looked so relieved and started to cry. “The really special thing about this whole story is that Ben does not like other horses much and he can also be a bit naughty with very able bodied horse people, but is very gentle with vulnerable people. “A few weeks ago, it took four adults to put an autistic girl on Ben's back, and he did not move a muscle, I do not even think he took a breath,” Lee recounted. Whether it be the proud tradition of the bond between a Lighthorse and a soldier during wartime, or the connection between animal and owner, there is something truly unique in the trust and respect that can exist.
Do you suffer from Sciatica, Pins and Needles, or Burning Pain? Do you experience pain or tingling running down your leg? Or pins and needles in your hands or feet? Do your arms or legs ‘fall asleep’ or feel numb? If so, you may be suffering from Spinal Subluxation - the term chiropractors use to describe misaligned vertebra irritating your nerves. So how is your spine responsible for pain and tingling in your arm or leg? It’s really quite simple. Your nervous system is made up of your brain, spinal cord, and nerves (see image). This extensive network allows your brain to communicate with every organ, cell and tissue in your body. But once your spinal health deteriorates to the point of irritating your nervous system, you lose your potential for normal feeling and function – and a symptom develops. Sciatica is a symptom...not a cause of leg pain. 4

By Lea Parkes
It’s just a fancy word to describe nerve pain down your leg. The more important question is what is causing the sciatica? There are several causes of radiating nerve pain. Some of the most common are intervertebral disc injuries, tight muscles, and spinal subluxation. Finding the cause of your symptom will then lead you to the appropriate therapy. If stretching and massage haven’t worked, the cause is not likely to be muscular. For ruptured discs, surgery is often the best option. And you guessed it, chiropractic is the best option when
Business feature
the cause is spinal subluxation. Two separate studies have shown that as little as 10 to 45 millimetres of mercury pressure (the weight of a coin on your hand) placed on the nerve was enough to change the nerve impulses by 40-60%. So even ‘minor’ subluxations can have a dramatic effect on the way you feel and function. The purpose of the chiropractic adjustment is to restore normal function to the spine, and reduce any nerve irritation caused by the misalignment. Chiropractors are the only health professionals whose sole focus is on detecting and correcting vertebral subluxation. If you would like to find out if Spinal Subluxation is the cause of your symptoms, call Adjust to Life Chiropractic on 5494 0499. 6/21 Peachester Road, Beerwah. www.adjusttolife.com.au www.gcnews.com.au

Real Estate Tip
My work experience was spent at Glasshouse Country News. I have loved every single minute of the time I have spent working there! It was quite ‘full-on’ compared to what I was expecting. However I liked being busy, there was always something to do. I had the privilege to work amongst the friendly staff for the week; they have walked me through each stage that the newspaper has to go through to be published and delivered to the people of the hinterland on a weekly basis. Throughout the week I had the opportunity to go out and see how other pupils from GCCC were going with their work experience.
By Work experience student Lachlan Mccuaig First I went to see Joshua Newman at Top Gun Panel and Paint. Joshua said that it wasn’t what he was expecting, it was better. “It has been great so far, I really enjoy the hands on work,” Joshua said. He also said that he had experienced what the paint side of the job had to offer, and he preferred doing panelling. Then I went to Beerwah Active Physio to see how Elizabeth Gregory was going. She said that she would like to get into sports physiotherapy, but unfortunately she wasn’t able to do this during work experience week, because of privacy laws. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my week at the centre. It has been a real eye opener to see how it all really works,” Elizabeth said. On behalf of all Year 10 GCCC students, I would like to thank all the local businesses around the area who took a student for the experience. It was greatly appreciated.
Implications of residential and non-residential property
The definition of ‘residential property’ is based on its use or function rather than its permitted uses. The type of property will impact directly on the statutory cooling-off period as well as commissions payable and any limitations on sole or exclusive agency which apply to ‘residential property’.

It is important for parents of young children and teens to be aware of their child’s phone and social media usage. There are a number of ways that parents can help ensure their child’s safety online. Be aware of what social media sites your child is accessing and ensure that you have access to them to allow you to monitor them, this could be as simple as being a Facebook ‘friend’. Make sure your child can tell you the name of their contacts and that they understand they should not accept requests from people they don’t know. Decide what an appropriate level of data and phone usage is for your child and monitor their usage levels. Most importantly talk to your children about all these things and make sure that they know they can talk to you if there is anything that makes them feel uncomfortable online. The other unfortunate reality of our online world is the issue of cyber-bullying. During the school holiday period this can be particularly distressing. Rather than the break from school being an opportunity to get away from the offenders, the victim may find that the situation is worse as the offender may have more time on their hands. Security monitoring of your home and business Many people are now installing CCTV systems in their homes and businesses. With the ‘digital age’ these devices are becoming more affordable. They not only act as a deterrent to criminals but in the event you fall victim to a burglary, they provide valuable evidence to police in identifying offenders and ultimately securing a conviction through the Courts. Another useful device is the ‘in-car’ digital camera. These are inexpensive and provide Police with high quality critical information relevant to dangerous acts committed on our roads. Offenders have been identified and convicted using this information. All information provided to Police will be investigated. I would encourage people to consider these options. With most people enjoying the holiday period I would ask that every one considers safety both at home and on our roads and please reinforce this message with your children and loved ones. Stay safe.

Better mobile coverage opportunity The federal government’s $100 million program to boost mobile coverage in regional and rural Australia is now underway. While the program won’t be able to help everyone, this fresh investment is a welcome step, according to the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN). “On offer is $80 million toward building new mobile towers in areas with poor coverage, with a $20 million component for blackspots in areas prone to natural disasters or subject to seasonal demand,” explained ACCAN CEO Teresa Corbin. “It’s expected that the telcos will match the government’s funding for a total of $200 million.” To push the case for the Glasshouse Country region, federal Member for Fisher, Mal Brough organised a community forum at the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club last Wednesday. Attending the meeting – apart from over 120 keenly interested locals – was Paul Fletcher, Federal Member for Bradfield and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications (Malcolm Turbull). Mr Fletcher was invited by Mr Brough to address the forum and to hear firsthand from affected locals about our mobile phone coverage and ADSL issues. “When the program was announced, one of the first people to call me was Mal Brough, saying ‘you’ve got to come and talk to the people of the Glasshouse community’. So here I am,” laughed Mr Fletcher.
Paul Fletcher explains the funding program as Mal Brough looks on “Our aim is to target the money towards the areas of greatest need. “We’ll also be seeking to identify and maximise any opportunities for co-contributions to pay for the delivery into communities,” he said. According to ACCAN, the co-contributions from local and state governments and other third parties could be in the form of money contributions, access to services and land, or streamlined planning permissions. ACCAN also suggests that, to ensure success, the area needs to demonstrate that everyone is on board so that the providers feel confident that the position of a new tower, for example, is going to be accepted and welcomed by locals. By the response to the forum meeting, it seems like our local communities will be embracing anything that can help.
By Greg Brown People from across the whole of the Fisher electorate told Mr Fletcher in no uncertain terms about the abysmal level of mobile reception the region receives. Stories abounded about issues such as lost business due to no reception in offices; tourists not staying overnight as there is no mobile phone coverage to contact relatives; health carers and health care workers concerned at being out of contact; emergency services not having communications during times of extreme need; real estate buyers looking elsewhere due to no mobile reception; people having no means of contacting help during times of severe weather or natural disaster … and the list of examples went on. An attentive Mr Fletcher took all the issues raised with great gravity. “We want the areas of highest need to be given priority for assistance,” he concluded. The Department of Communications wants to hear from communities to help identify areas in need. If you have an area you’d like included on the list of areas in need, locations can be reported via mobilecoverage@communications.gov.au or through the Department hotline 1800 113 486.

Countdown for Maleny Show The 2014 Maleny Agricultural Show Program is out and this year it’s all about celebrating small farmers! The front page of the 77th show’s schedule of events features some local ‘small farmers’ who were delighted to be starring on the cover for 2014. Peachester local, and show volunteer Kylie Wild,
took a photo of the Wild kids checking out the cattle yards, and when the show committee saw it, they thought it was just the thing for the front page. Kylie then got busy taking the same kid’s photos enjoying the schedule and getting some of their entries ready for this year’s show. The kids featured in each photo are Brooke, Rylee, Tyler, Liam and Ruby. It’s going to be a jam packed two days on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31 with plenty to see and do for the whole family! The 2014 Maleny Show Dance will also be held at the showground pavilion on Saturday, May 17, where Miss Showgirl, Show Princess, Rural Ambassador and Charity Person for 2014 will be announced. Tickets are: adults $15.00, high school students $5.00 and families $35.00 (includes under 15s). GCNews will be keeping you up-to-date with all the activities that are planned, and you can also check it all out at their website www.malenyshowsociety.org.au

Passage of Time: Stories of the Pumicestone Passage Catchment “This is the start of a new chapter in the collaborative catchment management for the Pumicestone, with the very recent endorsement by both local councils of a new collective plan developed by many over the last two years,” she said. Be prepared to go on a journey from the Aboriginal Dreamtime, through old fishing and oyster days, the soldier settlement and early forestry, the conservation fights and the glory of agricultural production at its peak. Thanks to the Sunshine Coast library, a large archive of historical photos and maps will be on display. Do you, your family or your organisation have a story you would like to share? It may be told in narrative, photos or song. It may be of farming, forestry, of conservation or fishing, or any other glimpse into how the land and the waterways were managed and the people behind it. It may be just a small story that paints a vivid picture in time. There is a story in all of us. Come and share yours! Booking is essential. You can call Susie Chapman on 5459 4788 or email SChapman@ seqcatchments.com.au

We’ve been telling stories since the beginning of man. Stories connect us through time to each other. They tap into existing knowledge and create bridges to carry it. They connect us to our landscape. The Pumicestone Passage is an extraordinary place, rich in beauty, productive soils, waterways…and history ripe for the telling. On May 2, all people of the Pumicestone catchment are warmly invited to share insightful stories of how their catchment has been managed, from Aboriginal times through to the present, at a free event at the Beerwah Community Hall. To launch what is shaping up to be a very memorable day, Minister for Environment and Heritage protection Andrew Powell will be sharing a story of his own connection to this special place. Local Councillors too will be there with their own tales. This gathering is made possible through funds from the Queensland Government Department of Environment and Heritage Protection, being delivered by SEQ Catchments with a dedicated team of Traditional Custodians, agricultural and conservation historians and local government. Susie Chapman of SEQ Catchments said that by the telling of these stories from moments or chapters in this colourful history, the Pumicestone catchment community will be able to acknowledge and learn from what has happened and why.

There are many people in our community who suffer from coeliac disease or who need to follow a gluten free diet. And for them and their families it can be a challenge to find great gluten free products and eating out and finding a ‘grab-and-go’ food option is nearly impossible. The family who own Beefy’s Pies knows from firsthand experience. Their 12-year-old son Michael was diagnosed as coeliac nine years ago, which means they have experienced just how difficult and disappointing it can be. Beefy’s owner and dad Mark said most times they tried something gluten free it tasted terrible, especially pastries, he said. So for a long time we had wanted to be able to share the experience of eating a pie with Michael, as well as filling a gap in the market. During the latter part of 2013, with so many new gluten free flours now available, it was the right time to perfect their own gluten free pie. After much experimenting and tweaking, they are excited to announce that they’ve adapted their award winning recipe into a delicious Gluten Free meat pie, which is endorsed by Coeliac Australia. But don’t just take their word for it – head in the Beefy’s and try one yourself – you’re sure to be impressed.
More accolades for Daisy's Place
Daisy's Place is the state winner of the prestigious title of Australian Pear Month Restaurant of the Year 2014 for Queensland, beating tough competition from around the state. The local Glenview restaurant won the title for its innovative pear creation of Crispy Pork Belly with Shitake Mushroom Salsa and Pear and Soy Emulsion. Chris Webster, executive chef at Daisy’s Place, explains: “We celebrated pears by adapting a dish from our existing menu and incorporating the fruit in as many elements as possible. Matching the shitake mushroom with pears was a risk but turned out to be a delicious and crowd-pleasing combination.” “We are a kitchen full of young chefs and really wanted to showcase our talents through this competition. “Winning the title of Australian Pear Month Restaurant of the Year 2014 for Queensland came as a surprise but we are glad to have impressed our customers,” said Chris.

Community News Good Neighbour Award
The winner of the February ‘Good Neighbour Award’, Robyn Scott, was unable to attend the February meeting, so the certificate was presented by the Area Co-ordinator, Ron Stocks, at the Beerwah NHWQ meeting on April 7. Robyn was nominated by Trina Haylock, the Lifestyle Co-ordinator at Embracia who wrote: ‘Robyn has been volunteering at Embracia for two years. We call her our quiet achiever. Robyn is very good at getting the job done, no matter what it is. Robyn helps with craft on Tuesdays and the café every Wednesday. Robyn is also versatile. She spends time in one-to-one visits with residents and is very efficient at keeping everything neat and tidy. Robyn is one of a kind and we couldn’t do without her.’

Preservation of Landsborough Hall is moving along If the grant that the Landsborough School of Arts Memorial Hall committee has recently applied for is successful they will be looking for local builders interested in tendering the stage one of their hall preservation plans. The committee obtained a cost estimate for stage one and it is in the vicinity of $100,000.00. If the grant is approved, a substantial amount of the hall’s present funds will be needed to complete the work. The result of the application will not be known until mid-June, however if the grant application is successful, the committee would like to start work as soon as possible after approval. The first stage is to re-locate the downstairs room to the front of the building, thereby allowing access to some of the foundations
which were put down 90 years ago across a stream. The foundations have been subsiding and substantial rectification work is required. The stage one plans prepared by engineers EBIS will provide for piers down to between 2.4 and 3 metres underneath the new downstairs area. This will make the hall above more stable. It will also reduce the number of posts required in that area. The existing downstairs room (the old supper room) is to then be demolished. If you are a local builder interested in tendering for the work please contact the hall Booking Officer Linda Morse on the hall number 5439 9399 or by email at lindamorse@fitches. com to obtain a copy of the plans for stage one. An electronic copy of the plans is also available.
Last September Teghan from TDC attended the Australian Dance Festival in Sydney. At the festival she attended many workshops, one of which was given by Patrick Kuo, who you may recognise from this year’s season of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. Teghan describes him as animated with a super high and playful energy which everyone can see on the show! "His workshop was by far one of the most memorable!" she says fondly. Teghan had the pleasure of meeting him after the workshop and wishes him all the best on sytycd! This year Teghan is hoping to draw in some more boys to recruit into her boys club classes (pictured) held on a Thursday afternoon from 5.00pm to 5.50pm. The classes draw inspiration from her encounters with all of the dancers and choreographers she has met and worked with. If you wish to enquire about classes at Teghan's Dance Club contact her on 0487 442 254 or 5494 9192 or teghansdanceclub@gmail.com Also find them on Facebook!
Climate change sceptic in charge of review All politicians know, if they want a report prepared to coerce the voters, (you and me) then they appoint the committee that already has an opinion biased towards the result they want. The Federal Government is short of cash, so the Renewable Energy Target (RET) agreed to in legislation by a previous administration, is about to be terminated to save money. The RET provides the funds to enable the Government to subsidise the purchase of solar systems. So, in the coming 5 months, we can expect to see the Federal Government announce that the RET will be watered down or scrapped. Interestingly, only 15 months ago, by a previous administration, the Climate Change Authority prepared a report on almost the same subject and it reported that the scheme should NOT be abandoned. The money our governments waste on reports to support the action they INTEND to take could be much better spent in areas of need. But with REAL TIME CHARGING already making inroads into your electricity bill as Energex go from house to house to fit SMART METERS, (SMART for ORIGIN, AGL & CLICK, but DUMB for the consumer). You will soon be paying PEAK RATES at breakfast and dinner time, because SMART METERS actually record the power use on a minute by minute basis. If you haven’t yet purchased a solar system, you will be forced into it soon as you need to take out an overdraft to pay for your electricity bill.

Busy Needles Maleny helps premmy babies Contributed by Dorothea Ekert Busy Needles Maleny recently welcomed Eileen Cooke and Natasha Kemp, as representatives of PIPA. (Pre-term Infants Parents Association). Our tables were full of tiny garments and rugs which our members have worked on for a few months. Wonderful effort girls and thank you to you for all the dedication which produces such a lovely array of garments for donation. PIPA is a group who have all experienced the trauma of premmy babies and now visit and help current parents with that same trauma. Because we help with garments and rugs they are able to be donated to hospitals who give sets to individual parents for their tiny babies. Masons give to community On Saturday, March 22, Neale Flethcher installed Bob O’Conor as master of Landsborough Masonic Lodge. The 48 attending Masons were later accompanied by their wives for a dinner in the hall, together with two charity recipients who were able to attend. Ann Husband from Morris House accepted a cheque for a fax/phone and Cathy Condon from BADYACC accepted a cheque for a barbecue. Both were much needed equipment for these charitable organisations.
During the year, Landsborough Masonic Lodge raises money to be distributed to local charities. One of these is a sausage sizzle (twice a month on the second and fourth Saturday) at Beerwah Recycling Centre. This event has been well patronised by the local community. Big Morning tea a big success Contributed by Coral Beutel On Wednesday, April 9 Peachester CWA held their cancer morning tea, what a wonderful morning! The hall looked stunning with Margaret Ferris’s beautiful floral arrangements and the delightful crockery display. The members really excelled themselves with the luscious morning tea, selling what was left over. Guest speaker Victoria Dawson, a cancer survivor and ambassador for the Cancer Council, was a very informative speaker. The guests were entertained by the melodious voices of the singing Belle’s Choir, and some poems recited by Coral. We sincerely thank all those generous people who donated raffle prizes, those who bought tickets and the people who attended. I would like to thank my members and those people who helped in any way. Mobile phone coverage concerns voiced
Happy camping in Glass House
On April 9 I hosted the Mobile Phone Blackspot Community Forum at the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club. Over 120 Hinterland residents attended the forum and had the opportunity to voice their concerns to the Hon. Paul Fletcher MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications. Overall, the forum was a success. Attendees were updated on the Federal Government’s Mobile Coverage Programme and Mr Fletcher encouraged residents to email their specific concerns to mobilecoverage@ communications.gov.au to ensure that their location is included in the Government database of areas with poor or no mobile phone coverage.
I am pleased to announce that Glass House residents will be able to enjoy a new range of quality options on their camping trips with the launch of new guidelines. The Queensland Camping Options Toolkit has been released following a successful series of community consultation workshops around the state last year. This kit gives the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay Regional Councils the confidence to assess their current approach to camping and engage stakeholders to grow the local economy through attracting more drive tourists to Glass House. The Camping Options Toolkit is a key outcome of the Newman Government’s Queensland Drive Tourism Strategy, which aims to encourage more travellers to take a driving holiday in Glass House. The Toolkit and further information on the drive tourism strategy are available at www.dtesb.qld.gov.au/tourism/ queensland-drive-tourism-strategy
Free trade agreements signed In a major boost for our region and the country, negotiations have concluded on an historic Economic Partnership Agreement with Japan, our second biggest trading partner. The breakthrough follows the successful conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement with Korea. Forum to discuss vocational education The Coalition Government is committed to improving our vocational education and training (VET) sector to better meet the needs of students and industry to create a highly capable and skilled workforce. To help achieve this, I am planning to host a Vocational Education Forum on April 30 in Caloundra. The forum will be attended by a member of the VET Reform Taskforce who will be passing on any feedback received to the Federal Minister for Industry. If you have any feedback on the VET sector that we can include in the forum please contact my office on 5444 4888.
Last month I had the pleasure of hosting Minister for Education, Training and Employment, Hon John-Paul Langbroek MP, at a forum with principals of Glass House primary and secondary schools. The forum was held at Woodford State School and the discussion covered a range of topics including school autonomy and early childhood learning. Following the forum Minister Langbroek and I sat down with Woodford State School principal Ronnie Hill to discuss the feasibility of offering Senior Education for the students at Woodford State School.
I had the pleasure of opening a new exhibit at the Landsborough Museum on March 31. The exhibit features a storyboard that reflects on the earliest indigenous people in the area and is a great addition to their fantastic collection of artefacts, memorabilia, documents and photographs. The volunteers at the Landsborough Museum do a wonderful job and I encourage you all to take some time out, visit the museum and reflect on the history and stories of our region.

Remembering our veterans this ANZAC day
More than 300 Sunshine Coast families have taken the opportunity to buy their first home with the help of the Queensland Government’s $15,000 Great Start Grant. The program announced in the 2012-13 Budget had now paid out 338 grants on the Sunshine Coast. The Great Start Grants are kick-starting the construction industry by encouraging new entrants into the housing market. Building approvals on the Sunshine Coast have increased by an impressive 57.0 per cent in the 12 months to February 2014. The Great Start Grant is available to first home buyers, purchasing or building a new house, townhouse or unit valued at up to $750,000. If you like more information about the grant visit https://greatstartgrant.osr.qld.gov.au/.

Education Minister attends round table with Glass House principals
We have all thought about the sacrifices that our ancestors made for us and our country, but have we considered what the RSL means for these men and women? I would often think that an RSL Sub Branch was just a club. How wrong could I have been? It is not just a building with four walls, it’s a place for veterans to go and meet with old friends. A place for mates to reflect on the incredible sacrifices they, and those who didn’t come home, made during the war. It’s a place for people to support one another and continue the support and welfare of our brave veterans. I was recently reminded of the dedicated service the Beerwah-Peachester RSL Sub Branch provides for our ex-service men and women at a morning tea I held for invited members of the Sub Branch and Women’s Auxiliary. When speaking with branch President Gavin Smith it’s clear how dedicated the members are. Just last year the Women’s Auxiliary raised more than $10,000 for the branch through raffles and other fundraising to continue support services for veterans such as maintaining the drop-in centre and raising awareness of pensions available. Other members make a point of visiting veterans when they are in hospital or nursing homes. The work these volunteers do is nothing short of amazing. One of the biggest events in our national calendar is ANZAC Day, a time when people pause and reflect on the anniversary of the landing of Gallipoli. Celebrations of the ANZAC centenary will occur between 2014-2018 and what more fitting way to start then showing our support at this year’s ANZAC Day services. I’m sure you’ll agree it is important to continue this tradition with our younger generations by attending and showing our respect to our veterans. Lest we forget. Marj Wilcock and Fay Bahr of the Ladies Auxiliary make a cuppa for Mark McArdle, MP and SubBranch President, Gavin Smith

Reply to Steve Dickson – motorsports park impacts
Do you Minister Steve Dickson believe that the five threatened frogs – Wallum sedge frog (federally vulnerable), Green-thighed frog, Wallum froglet, Tusked frog, and Giant Barred Frog (federally endangered), koala’s and their habitat, 300 year old habitat trees, Sub-tropical Lowland Rainforest (federally listed as critically endangered), Wallum wetlands (of-concern) are not worth saving? If the government is really committed to ‘protecting, preserving and managing our protected areas’, then this would not have been earmarked as the site to put in a motor cross facility. What other sites have you looked at? And on what grounds have these sites been knocked back? Where is the community consultation? Why has this project gone to tender before any community consultation? The immediate neighbours on Old Caloundra Road, bordering this proposed motor cross facility are still waiting to be consulted by yourself, and you have already put it out to tender. This is unacceptable behaviour and not what we would think the government should be doing to its constituents. What environmental assessments have been done to determine the impacts of this proposal and are they available to the public? We have not been able to find any. There are alternative sites that are further away from residential areas and are not nearly as environmentally sensitive – such as pine plantation immediately south of the proposed location; pine plantation north of Roys Road on the western side of the Bruce Highway; pine plantation east of the Bruce Highway in Beerburrum East State Forest, north or south of Moby Vic’s; and at Traveston where there is plenty of government owned land that is cleared grazing land. If you can change the tenure of a state forest (that was designated to become National Park) to a recreation park with the stroke of a pen then you can also revoke a portion of the plantation lease. With this proposal the local residents and environment will be the losers while one fortunate business will receive millions in public funds to establish their private venture on public land. This facility will not stop riders from accessing National Parks or forestry tracks unless you police it 24/7. At a time when the sale of public assets is required to fund new infrastructure – how is a new motor sports facility considered a priority for the expenditure of scarce public funds? Wouldn’t hospitals or schools be a higher priority? We need some answers Minister Dickson. Mooloolah River Waterwatch & Landcare Inc.

Caloundra South and Halls Creek
I am amazed that these sites are even being considered for housing and other development. The area is in a large flood plain. Photographs of this area during recent major flooding should be examined again. The environmental damage could also be a disaster. The additional problem to consider is global warming which is raising the sea level. This development has the potential to be the largest legal class action ever, when the next major flooding occurs after development. The politicians should consult the appropriate climate scientists before any money is wasted. I am always suspicious of the motives of politicians who support developers, particularly in the case of controversial development much of which has already been rejected by SCC. R.J. Malcolm Glass House Mountains
Pollie pay rise farce
The decision last week by an ‘independent tribunal’ to award all State politicians a hefty pay rise is one which nearly all right minded people would find very difficult to swallow – especially considering the recent dire predictions about the state of the Queensland budget and how there’s no money to pay for anything – unless of course we sell off our profit-making public assets. So – the Premier gets an extra $70,000 (a 21% pay rise to a total of about $380,000) and our two local members – Andrew Powell and Mark McArdle – will get an extra $80,000 (or a 34% pay rise to a total of about $310,000). According to the Premier, this just brings them back into parity with others. But at least one good thing should come of it. Now that the balance has been restored and a fair and equitable pay rate and associated allowances has been established for our politicians by the independent tribunal, there would seem to be no need for the tribunal to exist anymore. It can be disbanded with a morning tea and a ‘thank you’ card. Immediately, there’s a budget saving for the Government. The future pay rises for politicians could then just be linked to those of other public servants. That way, their $300,000 salaries would be kept up with the cost of living, just like they expect to happen with public servants on $50,000. It would be nice to see our two local (and now much better paid) state members support this concept and do something positive. B. Green Glenview
Re: Totally puzzled GCNews April 9
Since September 2013 Tony Abbot has had a group of scientists working on a new chemical compound. Boom sprayers have been fitted to the Prime Minister’s jet and the compound is being systematically spread over the whole Australian mainland. The compound has the effect of causing Labor supporters to vote Liberal. Tasmania has been left out of the program because there are not enough Labor supporters left down there to warrant the expense. Actually Marilyn, contrails from jet aircraft can and do persist for significant amounts of time, depending on atmospheric conditions. They may in fact last for many hours. Disappointing and insulting
As stories of contaminants in imported and farmed seafood from China and Southeast Asia are raised, consumers naturally become concerned as to where their seafood originates from. So I have taken to asking restaurant staff what the source of the seafood is that I am considering ordering when dining out. Most often staff take the time and trouble to find out for me. So it was disappointing and insulting to be told at a popular pub in the area when asking about the source of the snapper dish on the chef’s menu to be told that “It comes from the water,” with the cashier and chef both having a good laugh at their intended witticism. Note to restaurant and services staff: it is okay (and probably encouraged) that you have fun while enjoying your job, but it is also okay (and expected) that you serve your customers without ridiculing them. After all, without them, you haven’t got the job you currently have. Name supplied Glass House Mountains
Our rail duplication pipe dream
I have to agree with a previous letter from Brad Boustead on the negative action from our State politicians regarding any upgrade to, one would say, the worst rail service in Australia. Our rail issue is treated like a rugby ball – pass it back to someone else! How they expect to improve the service by making it more expensive is beyond me. The West Australian government bit the bullet years ago and developed a high-speed, efficient and affordable rail service north and south of Perth, and the result is that everybody – including the Government – is in a win-win situation. Everything here is at a standstill, including the freight service. One would think with the entire Sunshine Coast represented by the current Government, we would expect some action. Unfortunately, our positive hopes and dreams are exactly that – simply a pipe dream. Colin Batch Beerwah
Black spot meeting
Congratulations to Mal Brough and his team for organising Wednesday's well-attended mobile phone black spot meeting. After listening for over an hour to a wide range of serious mobile phone problems, I felt the solution does not lie with 4 and 3G phones, nor with the addition of more phone towers (the hopeless new tower in Glass House is a case in point). The government should revert to the excellent CDMA system used between 1998 and 2008. I used CDMA successfully all over Australia; it certainly worked well in this area. The $100 million promised by the government to fix nation-wide mobile phone problems is insufficient to build enough towers for the current system - the money should be spent re-introducing CDMA. (We now have a new collective noun - a disgruntlement of mobile phone users!) Roger Bonhomme Glass House Mountains

Your adrenals are located just above the kidneys which are part of the endocrine system. Adrenal fatigue can happen at any age, and whether you’re male or female. This is a condition that can go unnoticed for quite some time and can result in tiredness, un-refreshing sleep even though you’ve slept eight hours, craving sugars, headaches, dizziness, red flushed look, skin feels dry, excessive thirst, stomach upsets, feeling heated, hot flushes, or instant sweating for no reason. The main cause for adrenal fatigue is Stress, Stress and then more Stress. This can be from the type of work you do, money worries, excessive perspiring due to your profession, alcohol, relationship issues, caring for others, constantly pushing yourself to finish something,

Signage starts near the Visitors Information Centre at Glass House Mountains and you’ll find a pottery studio close by, at 3 Littles Road on the eastern side of Steve Irwin Way. After seeing Elma’s amazing ceramic creations, cross back over Steve Irwin Way and follow the ‘Art on Show’ signs to Coonowrin Road or Ruwa Drive. To make your visit more interesting and convenient, some artists share studios so you may meet two or three artists at the one place. They are all enthusiastic and willing to demonstrate their skills, so feel free to ask as many questions as you like. The range of art forms caters for a diverse audience and we’re sure you won’t be disappointed. You’ll be able to see painting in all mediums; printmaking; photography; ceramics, sculpture; jewellery; wood carving and felt-making. Information about all the studios is available at each studio you visit to assist you to plan your day. Ask for your copy of the map to guide you during your rambles. When you require a break for coffee or lunch, we can recommend some great cafes that have generously sponsored the Glasshouse Country Arts Trail brochure. During the year, other Open Studio days will be advertised on the blogsite http://glasshousecountryartstrail.com/ and in local media.
WW1 Digger – John Fraser
John Fraser was a 26-year-old country boy from Yandina who sailed on the Euripides with his unit of fresh recruits from Sydney in October 1917, heading for the Great War in Europe. A grandson of William and Mary Grigor, who established Bankfoot House, John served with the 52nd and 49th Battalions and died in the Battle of Amiens in France on August 12, 1918. Exhausted after the battle, he fell asleep in his trench and was hit by a German mortar shell. Ten years earlier at the age of 16, he had kept a diary of activities on the family farm at Cooloolabin via Yandina. The diary is a laconic, first-hand account of country life from 1907 to 1908 and makes fascinating reading. ‘Father and I hung the dairy door and put the plates, rafters and battens up for the cow bails,’ he wrote on October 8, 1907. ‘Willie (his brother) and Mother cut bananas. Mother pulled pines (pineapples) and worked in the house.’ On November 1, 1907, ‘Father and Willie came home with the cattle. I milked cows and went to Yandina with the cream,’ he wrote. ‘Mother worked in the house and gathered manure. Willie dug arrowroot.’ The entry for November 6, 1907 reads, ‘Father went to Yandina with the cart. Mother and I milked cows. I mended the fence up at the sugar cane, skinned a possum and got a few stag horns. Mother washed clothes. Willie brushed and gathered moss. Cloudy and windy.’ ‘Father cut limbs out of orange trees and burnt them and milked cows,’ on January 31, 1908. ‘Mother milked cows and washed clothes. Willie milked cows twice and dug and snigged arrowroot. I went to Yandina with the cream. Father and I sowed four acres with paspalum grass seed.’ John Fraser is buried in France in the Cote 80 French National Cemetery at Etinehem, but his diary lives on. Descendents of his family preserved his diary over the years and now the Friends of Bankfoot House are in the process of transcribing this unique and precious document. If you are interested in learning more about Bankfoot House and its occupants, please contact the Friends of Bankfoot House on 5493 0197 on a Wednesday or email friends@bankfoothouse.org. Visitor Information Centre Update By Bev Dooley A Day in the life of a Volunteer
Our Centre has volunteers from all walks of life and each has their own reasons for wanting to be a part of the team. The one thing they all have in common is their passion for the region and providing the local knowledge, to make a visit to the area more enjoyable. For this month’s column, I would like you to meet one of our volunteers – Yvonne Fullerton 1. How long have you lived in Glasshouse Mountains? Almost 17 years. 2. Why did you first volunteer? I had recently retired after 31 years in the same employment and I was missing the interaction with people. I thought with my knowledge and passion for the Glasshouse area, the Tourist Information Centre would be the ideal place for volunteering. 3. What do you enjoy most about the Centre? Meeting so many wonderful and interesting people from all corners of the globe and enjoying the connection with other volunteers. 4. What is the most unusual query you have received? I was once asked by some recent arrivals from the UK where they could pick fresh mushrooms? They couldn’t get used to the fact we had no meadows here – guess they didn’t stay for long! I have also been asked, on more than one occasion, when the Glass House Mountains were due to erupt again. I assured the visitors they had nothing to worry about as the mountains were actually remnants of volcanic activity that occurred approximately 25 million years ago and that they could continue to enjoy their holiday on the Sunshine Coast! 5. What would you say is the most frequently asked question? I think that would be ‘where can we get the best view of the mountains?’ 6. What kind of things do you find yourself doing on an average day? There are never any average days here at the Centre; however during the few quiet times there are always things to do. Some of those include checking the stands are full with brochures, familiarising myself with any new brochures coming into the Centre and formulating the visitor statistics, which are certainly on the increase. 7. How do you feel about the operational changes that have occurred over the last six months? I admit I was a little apprehensive at first about the change, as were many of the other volunteers, and of course the locals. With only a small band of volunteers remaining, we were determined that the Centre would remain open. Now the with support of SCDL and our Ambassador Co-ordinator, Bev Dooley, we have 40+ very eager volunteers and I feel it is working as well as it ever has. We are certainly ‘onwards and upwards’.
The Glass House Mountains Visitor Information centre is located at Settler's Rotary Park, Reed Street, Glass House Mountains and is open seven days a week from 9.00am to 4.00pm

Singapore Skyline The skyline of Singapore is a wonderful mix of various styles of architecture. There is the tall three legged hotel with a ‘surf board’ connecting them at the top, then the low buildings of the Marina Bay Shopping Centre full of up-market, expensive items to tempt the discerning purchaser, followed by the art gallery inspired by the lotus flower. On the far left are the tall, no-nonsense skyscrapers of the business sector. This is 21st century Singapore. This photograph was taken with a Samsung ST500 on Auto Mode. The camera chose to use a shutter speed of 1/140 sec with F-Stop of f/9 and an ISO rating of 80.

Environment Mooloolah River Waterwatch & Landcare Inc. We care our environment Avid gardener andabout owner of Professional Weeds Solution Japanese students in Mooloolah
Mooloolah Recreation Grounds are beginning to develop into a nice area for the Mooloolah Community to hang out, walk, have a picnic or play cricket. Mooloolah River Waterwatch and a group of Japanese students visiting Caloundra Christian College came out to help us plant an area along a small waterway. Last years’ group, who were from the same school, sent a request to take photos of the trees they planted last year. These trees are now two metres high and I am sure they will be surprised and pleased to see their efforts are paying off. Some of the trees we planted will attract birds, butterflies and become bush tucker, as well as supporting the waterway. We planted three large Richmond Birdwing Butterfly vines which makes a total of around 15 Birdwing vines on the site.
Glasshouse Mountains Advancement Network Is it ok to feed the birds?
With developments constantly encroaching on native habitats, our wildlife more frequently seek out alternative food sources. So, is it okay to provide food in bird feeders? Some agencies discourage this, alleging that birds become dependent on easy handouts, that there can be adverse effects on health, and that feeding encourages the larger parrots, which soon displace smaller honeyeaters and insect eaters. Others argue that most birds retain their own feeding patterns. However, there are some recommendations: feed irregularly, don’t give too much food, and provide different kinds of food at various times. Use only high quality commercial mixed bird seed, and never feed birds bread. Bird feeders should be hung away from fences or furniture and out of reach of cats. If you are really clever, a feeder can be hung in front of a window and you can enjoy the view of birds feeding. Better still, grow Australian native plants so our feathered friends can forage naturally, including pollen, seed, fruit and nectar-producing native plants, and a patch of unmown grasses that can set seed for native finches, which are especially vulnerable, as their seed grasses are often the first plants to go in housing developments and lifestyle blocks. Ask your local native nursery for advice on species native to your area. Protect old trees for nesting sites, or add nest boxes, include water baths or ponds and ground cover, such as leaf litter, rocks, or fallen logs for lizards and insects. Do you have an hour or two a month to spare? Would you like to learn more about the flora and fauna in your area, and meet new friends? For more information on GMAN activities and nursery sales please call Cliff (5438 7118) or Gwen (5493 0029). www.gman-inc.com.au
Wildlife corridors and endangered flora and fauna
Wildlife corridors are essential for the survival of our fauna on the coast. Fragmentation of wildlife habitats is occurring all over the coast. As development blooms, state and federal governments are putting these habitats at risk and / or wiping them out entirely. Hot on the government agenda is the motorsports precinct proposed by Minister Steve Dickson, who has said in GCNews that he will not change his mind about the proposed location. The Beerwah State Forest was earmarked to be handed over to National Parks for safekeeping due to the conservation values and with this in mind one would think that there are other locations on the coast with no conservation values that would suit this type of sport. Again, the environment and our native fauna does not get the support it needs to survive on the coast.

Go Green Rainforest Nursery Plant of the Week North Queensland Tree Waratah
Alloxylon flammeum
This is probably the most spectacular of all of Australia’s wonderful rainforest trees. Through spring and summer, the tree is covered in large brilliant red flower heads. The flowers are stunning and can be seen from a long distance against the lush green foliage of the tree. It naturally occurs around the Atherton Tableland in North Queensland. This stunning ornamental tree is easy to grow in SE QLD as long as you give it full sun and most importantly, a free draining position. It grows quite fast and reaches approximately 8 to 10m in height. If you would like more information on this tree or any other native plants drop in and see Simon or Melissa at Go Green Rainforest Nursery, 2620 Steve Irwin Way, Glenview. Phone 5494 5980. No pain intended!
Kids have great imaginations. As a nine-yearold boy at the Brighton State School I had a part in a play titled ‘Heaping Coals of Fire’. The imagery fascinated me. It was about a boy who was a bully. In the play Biblical verses were used from Solomon chapter 25. The vision was of heaping red hot coals on the bully’s head. That’s a very satisfactory way of teaching him a lesson, I thought. Kindness to your enemy will stir his conscience and he will be sorry for his actions! I spoke about this text last Saturday at Landsborough, and the Apostle Paul’s use of it in Romans 12:20. Interestingly Baptist theologian Dr Ray Robbins while on a study tour in the middle-east heard a Bedouin use the expression, “heaping coals of fire on his head.” On asking the meaning, the Bedouin explained it had nothing to do with pricking someone’s conscience. It was more about just kindness to your enemy. Before matches were invented fires were started by flint or friction. In the desert, if you had a guest stay overnight, you gave him a small pot of live coals from your fire as he left next morning. During the hot sunny day the pot was carried above his head; a far cooler arrangement. That night he had some coals to start his own fire to cook or GLASSHOUSE COUNTRY

to keep himself warm. So ‘heaping coals of fire’ was an expression of generosity for the comfort of someone else. No pain intended! Interestingly both Jesus and Paul emphasise gentleness and grace in our relationships with family, friends, community and even our ‘enemies’. This weekend the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and the Saviour is prominent. This celebrated event is momentous in its implications. Salvation is a free gift from God through the death of His Son. The gift is not given to burn, but to provide the most awesome present to each of us; ‘Coals of fire’ in the real sense. Big Year for San Taekwondo Contributed by Cameron Taylor Already 2014 has already been a huge year for the San Taekwondo Club. Instructor at Beerwah, Cameron Taylor, represented Australia at the US open in Las Vegas in February, fighting against athletes from 65 other countries including world and Olympic champions. Cameron’s coach and father Norm Taylor said, “although he didn’t win many fights, Cameron fought exceptionally well and had a great experience. It is a great follow-up to last year when he was the Queensland Taekwondo team captain.” Leo Macdonald joined Cameron at the state titles last weekend. Leo won a silver medal and is showing some great skills as he approaches the open black belt division. Cameron won his 4th State title gold in a row. Leo and Cameron will both now compete for Queensland at the nationals in July. Blue belt students Liam Riley, Aaron Lerch and Siena Cameron also joined the team at a competition in Brisbane hosted by Taekwondo Queensland recently. The San team of five came home with three gold, one silver and a bronze medal. Cameron has also been awarded an elite athlete scholarship at the University of the Sunshine Coast because of his achievements in taekwondo. Our first eight week challenge saw three mums 34 |

On average they each lost 23cm’s and noticed some great improvements in their strength, fitness and flexibility. “It’s been great to see so Liam in action many people benefit from taekwondo training and everyone’s hard work is paying off,” said Cameron. “Our students showed a very high standard at our recent belt promotion tests.” “Personally, I’m training hard, for some important international events coming up and good results will help me with selections to other high level events including the Olympics,” he said. Contributed by Jenny Kelly We had glorious weather for Thursday’s Single Stableford which was played off the White Tees. The course plays a lot longer from way back there, but that didn’t stop 77 girls from coming out to have a hit. With such a good field, we were able to play in three Divisions for trophies kindly donated by Ruth Bowie, Gail Murphy and the Club. The winner of Division 1 was Hope Hannah with 31 points, followed by Fay Barry on 30 points. Winner of Division 2 and best score of the day went to Debs Rutherford with a great score of 36 points from runner up Sharon Phillips who came in with 29 points. Division 3 winner was Helen Faithful with 30 points, followed by Ruth Parish on 29 points. Nearest to the Pins went to Cathy Stone on 2 and 16, Sonia Kenway on 5 and Alison Behncken on the 18th. The fairways have been cored and limed, so the drop of rain over the weekend will bring them up a treat. Hopefully we’ll be nice and dry for next week’s game. Until then, stay safe and good golfing.

Junior’s news Our Junior teams have just finished their summer competition. Out of five teams representing our club three of them made the finals. Megastars came in 4th and lost the first semi. Magic were unlucky in the preliminary final losing by one game as they were the minor premiers, and the Muppets who ended up second played the grand final on March 29 defeating the Nambour Pirates. The Muppets are doing well becoming the premiers for the last two seasons. Congratulations to Jack, Elizabeth and Phoebe for your success for our club and a great effort – well done! Our Junior players are looking great in their new purple and white club shirts as they stand out
among other junior teams on the coast. Adult news The autumn Monday night competition is well under way. We were able to enter four teams of which Division 1 – the Mungrals and Division 3 – the Mystics are doing well. Our Division 2 – the Mantarays and Division 4 teams are trying very hard with some new players. With our new club shirts our club is getting some recognition as a great club to be a member of. The only major thing on our agenda is to hopefully be successful with receiving a grant from Jupiters in the next couple of weeks to replace the lights and poles. So we all have our fingers crossed for this to happen and then our courts will be a great asset to the community.

Just for Laughs Good Lord! Sam was the owner of a worldwide branch of stores and a multi-millionaire. When his daughter Sandy got engaged to a very religious young man he called the future groom into his office. “So tell me,” said Sam, sitting the young man down. “What are your plans for the future?” “Well,” said the groom, “I plan on studying holy works all of my life.” “And how exactly do you plan on supporting my daughter if you are studying all
Your Stars
Week beginning 16/04/14
with Edgar J. Winter - www.astroclairvoyant.com ARIES March 21 – April 20 This may become one of your most outstanding weeks, since there is a full Moon Eclipse Tuesday, in your opposite sign of Libra. If you are in the position to be in the open at sunset, on April 15 you will see the full Moon together with Mars and the star Spica. Could be a brilliant week for you with the luck of Jupiter. TAURUS April 21 – May 21 Perhaps this full Moon week, in the sign of Libra, means you might have to re-craft your future. This Eclipse week brings you startling revelations. Venus and Jupiter draw you attractive partners that could evolve into a secure commitment. Mars is close to planet Earth and can bring you dangerous provocation. Keep cool. GEMINI May 22 – June 21 Eclipses, such as the one this week, being in the sign of Libra, will ensure that you will want to hang out with progressive friends and explore exciting new pleasures. This Full Moon Eclipse is favourable to your signs and that could give you the opportunity to endear yourself to someone. Some news brings revelations. CANCER June 22 – July 22 You are one of the four cardinal signs of the zodiac that this week is triggered by a volatile new Moon in Libra. Some may be under confrontational opposition from others but don’t push others around or let them provoke you. The karmic past my scream out to adjust yourself to changes in business or personal affairs.
LEO July 23 – August 22 This full Moon will be an important influence with regard to your education or intellectual rapport with others. Therefore, interactions with relations, family and neighbours become more active. The best time under a full Moon eclipse to let go of an outdated belief. Viewpoints are challenged under divulged information. VIRGO August 23 – September 22 This is the week extraordinaire where you move from a Virgo Moon into a Libra Moon under an Eclipse pattern that is extremely rare. Under the clash of planets you may feel anxious about many things, either from finance, or other’s personal life changes. A tax or estate matter may need to have a slight adjustment. LIBRA September 23 – October 22 The Libra Full Moon Eclipse is in your court. Find your courageous self to make or accept life altering changes. Cooperation with partners must be given top priority and if totally unsatisfactory it may mean leaving behind a dissatisfactory union. Someone may blurt out a secret or suspicious information. SCORPIO October 23 – November 22 If you feel bound by a schedule, or feel yourself in a deep trench this is the week that you may find you are the one shouting for ‘freedom, liberty and equality’. This is because of the Full Moon eclipse in Libra, and Mercury and Mars bringing out toxic feelings that need new stress relieving outlets now.
SAGITTARIUS November 23 – December 22 This whole week, under the auspicious of a full Moon Eclipse in Libra your star sign brings changes in the lives or status of friends. It may mark the end of one friendship and the start of new individual or group associations. You are in a favourable cycle for all things financial or domestic. Escape the rut! CAPRICORN December 23 – January 19 Mars is a planet under this week with a full Moon eclipse giving you an angry repressed colleague. Rebellious people everywhere are standing up for themselves and you can be the standard bearer for change, liberation and transformation. Choose cooperation and conciliation not conflict or confrontation. AQUARIUS January 20 – February 19 This could be one of your most amazing weeks for the year under a full Moon Eclipse. The planets align to give you fast thinking, a revolutionary idea, a sudden lightening flash, a new start points the way to freedom and equality. This is no time to hold onto the past or the old ways of doing things. Cry for change! PISCES February 20 – March 20 The Full Moon Eclipse strikes your personal assets, finance sector and shared resources. This means that both you and your partner pitch in to solve any monetary crisis or a plan needed for long term impact. You can pursue new inventive or exciting ways to make money. Don’t let anyone crash or burn your savings.

day?” questioned Sam. “I am sure The Lord will provide,” answered the young man. “And what about your kids? How do you plan on supporting them?” “The Lord will provide,” answered the young man again. “How did it go?” asked Sam’s wife after they finished talking. “It went great,” Sam replied. “I had just met the young fellow and already he thinks I’m the Lord!” Submitted by Shane, Glass House
