Still time to become a street party sponsor
With a little over four weeks to the 2019 Street Party on Friday, October 18, from 4-9pm, the organisers from Celebrate Glasshouse Country Inc are making sure everything is in place and ready to go. Celebrate Glasshouse Country president Judy Tomlinson thanked the generous sponsors of the party, saying they already had most of the funds to bring it together. “However, we are still hoping for some extra sponsors so all entertainment and infrastructure can be paid for,” Judy said. “Thanks in particular to Cr Rick Baberowski, sponsors will be highlighted throughout the party on two big screens in Simpson Street and the Beerwah Marketplace. “The screens will show live action on stage, a roving videographer will be filming activities all through the party precinct and the sponsors will have their logos and photos shown so everyone knows who made it possible to provide such a great event. “Thanks to Beerwah Hotel and Beerwah Marketplace and Shopping Village for being major gold sponsors again, along with the Iolar community recycling team. “Glasshouse Country Chamber of Commerce and Bassett Barks funds are paying for tables, chairs and other infrastructure.

“As always, Glasshouse Country & Maleny News gets our message out to the community with their very generous support. “Ray White Beerwah is stepping up to supply our volunteers with T-shirts and caps, and Unitywater is joining us this year with their water-on-tap van so everyone can refill their water bottles free of charge. “Beerwah Print is helping with our printed flyers, All in One Fitness, Vianta Espresso & Wine Bar and Mrs Browns Espresso Bar & Café are helping by paying for some of our entertainers. “By supporting the street party, these sponsors make it possible to provide the entertainment and rides to you free of charge. “Please return the support by eating out, shopping and buying locally,” Judy said. Maleny launches 18-hole member drive with three-year deal Maleny Golf Club is offering a special three-year membership option to new members as it prepares to bring the final six holes of the award-winning Sunshine Coast hinterland course into play in early 2020. Maleny Golf Club, which opened in 2015, is known for its welcoming country hospitality and still has significant growth capacity to accommodate new male, female and junior members interested in playing socially or competitively. There is currently no nomination fee. Anyone taking up the $2,244 offer will enjoy full gold membership from the day they sign up until October 31 2022 and avoid anticipated annual fee increases in the meantime. The 2019/2020 full gold membership fee will be $748. President Dr Max Whitten said the offer represented both good value for money and an opportunity for members and newcomers to help the club fund mowing and maintenance fleet additions to service the expanded 18-hole course. “We will be bringing the last six of our 18 holes into play early in the new year and have committed to purchasing and leasing additional equipment so we can continue to deliver our high standard of course presentation,” Dr Whitten said. The current 12-hole, par-46 course incorporates an environmentally low-impact design by golf architect Graham Papworth that preserves and integrates existing wetlands and native flora. The completed 18-hole course will be comprised of two par 5s, ten par 4s and six par 3s, presenting a par 68 layout featuring unique revetted greenside bunkering, Tifdwarf Bermudagrass greens and kikuyu fairways within a peaceful, scenic hinterland setting.

Crystal Waters Music Club is back and is excited to start their season with a soirée under the stars on Saturday, September 28 with performances by English singer songwriter Emily Maguire and multitalented Terence Boyd Thallon. Emily is a multi-instrumentalist and composer with five albums and three books to her name. You are likely to have heard her beautiful voice on ABC radio. A seasoned performer, Emily has, among her many accomplishments, performed to a packed out Albert Hall and toured alongside the great Don McLean. Now back in Australia working on her sixth studio album with husband, producer and bass guitarist, Christian Dunham, she has been performing at intimate venues across the country. Performing at Crystal Waters alongside Christian, Emily has reunited with her original Australian drummer Shane Nesic. Guests will also enjoy the many talents of sculptor, painter, poet and songwriter Terence Boyd Thallon who, with the trace of an Irish accent, will be singing the most wonderful stories in a voice that is both strong, silky and smooth. Terence’s performances are fabulously entertaining, referencing the great poets of the past as well as beat and punk eras. The soirée will be held on the deck and under the stars at Crystal Waters Permaculture Village, 65 Kilcoy Lane, Conondale. All are welcome to come and enjoy an evening of stunning music and perfect atmosphere, with fire blazing, gourmet food available and a bar. Doors open at 6pm and entry is $15 per person.
