Hi Everyone

W

ell it isn’t often that we get quite such an internationally recognised celebrity on our front cover, and no ‘Arnie’ didn’t actually make an appearance in Glasshouse Country but when a local has a brush with fame like this one – it definitely needs more than a mention on Facebook! We always encourage readers to send in their stories, photos and suggestions, as we love being able to share them with the rest of our readers, so we definitely couldn’t go past this one. This week we are also putting the call out to anyone locally who will be travelling to Gallipoli for ANZAC Day – we know of a few Glasshouse Country locals who have been successful in their bid to be part of this historically significant event. We would love to hear your stories. If you would be happy to be included in an article please email me at editorial@ gcnews.com.au with your contact details. Happy Easter and don’t forget we have a week off and the next paper is April 15. Regards,

Beerwah's very own local real estate agent Aaron Peckitt from First National Real Estate Beerwah was fortunate enough recently to rub shoulders with Arnold Schwarzenegger at a real estate conference. Mr Schwarzenegger was the headline speaker at the Queensland Real Estate Summit 2015. He spoke alongside many brilliant speakers including the Altman Brothers from the popular reality TV show Million Dollar Listing Los Angles. Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke about the challenges that he has faced throughout his life from being ‘Mr Universe’, a Hollywood movie star, and most recently governor of California. He credits his success, by following six life rules 1. Trust yourself 2. Break some rules 3. Don't be afraid to fail 4. Ignore the naysayers 5. Work like hell 6. Give something back Aaron said what was interesting to learn about Arnold Schwarzenegger was he made his very first million from flipping houses from the money that he made from his Mr Universe competitions. He also mentioned that he will be back in Australia in the next two months promoting the

Brisbane Art Prize By Sonia Clark

Submissions are currently being taken for entry in the Brisbane Art Prize which is part of the Life Art Worldwide Arts Expo to be held at the Lightspace venue in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley from September 23 - 27. Entries close on April 30. The Brisbane Art Prize is an acquisitive $10,000 prize awarded to one of approximately 60 preselected artworks. The event is the brainchild of local visual artist Cathy Condon and furthers her vision to elevate the arts and the related industries by showcasing art of an exemplary standard within a contemporary marketplace. Cathy, who co-owns the Life Art Worldwide Art Gallery at Beerwah Marketplace, is passionate about promoting the arts as well as providing a viable outlet for artists to be represented in galleries. Seeing a gap in artist representation, Cathy is keen to open up opportunities for artists, as well as making art more accessible for the public. Having been invited to exhibit her own work in Biennale in Tuscany and London, and following on from an extended period in Europe focussing on developing her own creative interests, Cathy realised that art could be exhibited on a much greater scale. As a result of meeting a number of international artists, Cathy was keen to advance this vision and directed the International Arts Expo that was held on the Sunshine Coast in 2013 featuring both local and international artists.

This year Cathy will be taking the same concept of showcasing the best of local and international artists to Brisbane as part of the Life Art Worldwide Arts Expo. Art works for the Brisbane Art Prize must be 2D only (painting, drawing, photography, assemblages) with an overall framed size work measuring 40 x 40cm. Artworks will be preselected based on technical proficiency, artistic innovation and adherence to the exhibition concept. For more information or to submit an entry (up to four works can be submitted, $45.00 per entry) see www.lifeartworldwide.com or drop into the Life Art Worldwide Gallery, Shop 22 Beerwah Marketplace.

Where to now ... Mark McArdle Following on from last week, GC&M News asked Mark McArdle, Member for Caloundra what his views and visions were for the coming Parliamentary term. I know I have asked before, but I will ask again, what do you want the Hinterland to be? First of all, a vision for the Hinterland to be a prominent tourism destination? Before and during the election campaign $250,000 was pledged to restore the Mooloolah Memorial Oval. Despite the change in Government it is a commitment I intend to fight for on behalf of the Mooloolah community. I have had a significant support from people wanting this project to proceed. The plans are all there and ready to go. This is something I believe in after seeing Mr Jim Armstrong’s beautiful map, memorabilia and photos of the memorial oval. This project will give Mooloolah a greater sense of community. As much as the restoration of the Mooloolah Memorial Oval is of high importance, the railway duplication from Beerburrum to Landsborough is an important project for the future of the Sunshine Coast and its economy. The upgrade will improve travel times, capacity and service reliability between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. With an additional 150 weekly services, the Hinterland will be easier to access. The Caloundra Road Interchange / Bruce Highway upgrade is yet another issue for the

www.gcnews.com.au

Mark McArdle, with Mooloolah Memorial Oval artwork plan architect Jim Armstrong, Ben Haycroft from Loggers Cricket, Kris Minns of Tradesure and Steven Hocking of Loggers Cricket Hinterland. The upgrade currently proposed will have adverse effects on, the Beerwah Forest, Aussie World and surrounding businesses. I have held several meetings with Aussie World business owners who will suffer and they’re very concerned for their businesses as a result of the changes. I recently met with Sunshine Coast Koala Rescue team to discuss a plan of action to protect the koalas that reside in this area. Though we need our roads upgraded, there is still a price to pay for businesses, visitors to the Hinterland and the effects it will have on the Beerwah Forest.

Local events update Two new developments changing the event scene in Glasshouse Country have occurred in recent weeks. Celebrate Beerwah president and event coordinator Judy Tomlinson said the committee feels so strongly about the Beerwah Celebration, and the potential of the region, that it’s decided to become an Incorporated Association. This will allow the group more autonomy to stage its own events and to manage its own funds. “Celebrate Beerwah is about celebrating and promoting Beerwah and Glasshouse Country. Our region is unique and deserves a dynamic group to support its potential through the right events,” she said. The Glasshouse Country Festival, the 10 day event comprised of small events celebrating the whole of Glasshouse Country will take a break, giving organisers the opportunity to refresh the event. The Hinterland Development Community Association (HDCA) will be discussing the future of the Glasshouse Country Festival with key stakeholders over the coming months. Community members who are interested in volunteering for the 2015 Beerwah Celebration, or who are interested in getting involved in the organising committee, should contact Judy on 0408 445 988 email info@ celebratebeerwah.org A meeting to call for Celebrate Beerwah’s incorporation is scheduled for Thursday, April 16 at 1.00pm at the Beerwah CWA hall in Simpson Street.

Local mountains may become volcanoes again As a result of recent findings, a research geologist from the respected Lithic Australian Volcanology Association is warning that there are signs the Glass House Mountains are returning to their prehistoric volcanic condition. A team of Lithgow University scientists, headed by Emeritus Professor Tony Caldera, have been studying the mountains and say that there are signs one or more of the mountains may be coming back to life. “By all scientific accounts, these mountains were extinct volcanoes, but our findings may show otherwise,” said Professor Caldera. “It started when a bushwalker reported to authorities that the ground seemed to be hot when they walked around some of the mountains. “Using a ground penetrating thermopropensometer, we can establish that there may be magma – or molten rock – not far below,” he said. Airborne chemical sensing equipment has also been used to detect any pre-eruption gas emissions, and Professor Caldera says that some noxious gases have been noted. “We picked up readings of hydrogen sulphide – or rotten egg gas – which were above what we’d expect. “This could be an indicator of some venting of volcanic material,” the Professor explained. However, some locals are not so sure. Beerburrum custard apple farmer Mr Lenny Stromboli is sceptical.

“I heard that bushwalker also reported seeing a yowie on the same day,” he said. But Professor Caldera stresses that we should be prepared for any eventuality. “Having an erupting volcano next door to major towns could cause some disruptions,” he said. “You could expect widespread molten lava flows, fountains of exploding magma, and poisonous gas clouds. “It’s a fascinating development for the international volcanological community … although, probably a little more worrying for local residents.” The Professor is working with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to see what can be done. Local Park Ranger Stacey Thomson is keen to reassure locals. “We’re keeping all the trails open but we’re asking that all walkers wear some form of head protection, such as a motorbike helmet … just to protect themselves if a falling bit of magma comes their way.” GC&M News will bring you more up-to-date news on the situation as it develops … unless our office is covered by molten lava in the meantime ….. (Happy April Fool’s Day).

Like many locals, Anthony believed he was being charged too much for the energy he used. He was being billed for 35kW hours a day for which he could not account. So, the team at All Energy HQ fitted a special meter to Anthony’s circuit board. Anthony was then able to submit graphical proof to his energy company that he was being OVERCHARGED. Guess what? His energy company admitted they were ‘aware of an issue’, and back dated a refund for SEVERAL MONTHS, and ensured future bills actually corresponded with what Anthony used. How thoughtful of them. How much refund would Anthony have received if he could not PROVE his actual bill was not valid? How many local residents are in the same position as Anthony, getting overcharged month after month and nothing is being done to rectify the situation? If you are in a similar position, phone All Energy HQ at Glass House - 5438 7200

“Origin, AGL and Energy Australia … getting away with screwing households on their electricity bills …” – Dr John Hewson, AM The renewable energy industry – brow beaten after years of intense lobbying from the big 3 dirty power companies [Origin, AGL and Energy Australia] and a vicious offensive from the Coalition – caved and reluctantly accepted a huge cut to the Renewable Energy Target (RET). They did this to save their industry, which is under attack. As a former leader of the Liberal Party I've seen first hand the undue influence big corporations can have over politicians and public policy. It's time to shift the balance away from the big energy companies and their dirty and expensive power habits to Australian consumers who want cheaper and cleaner power. And, unlike renewable energy backed companies, they've been getting away with screwing households on their electricity bills by hitting customers with almost obscene profit margins as energy retailers too. The dirty energy companies might want to protect their huge investments in coal, gas and coal seam gas, but we can -- right now -- stop them in their tracks. (extract from an open letter from Dr John Hewson, AM, 26 March 2015) So, let’s hit them where it hurts and install a solar system, then follow up with a battery and give them the flick entirely. Phone All Energy HQ today on 5438 7200 to find out how you can fight back. www.gcnews.com.au

Far from this land By Lea Parkes

As part of the year-long Centenary of ANZAC commemorations, the Landsborough Museum will be featuring a special exhibition that focuses on four soldiers, one staff nurse, and their service in the First World War. Having received a $25,000 grant as part of RSL funding and combined with a $5,000 grant they received from Sunshine Coast Council, the Museum has been researching and working on creating a high quality exhibition to be completed for the opening on Sunday, April 19. The family of Landsborough resident and museum volunteer Gwen Davis, have kept a large number historic items from the time Henry (Harry) Gabriel Hapgood, of Maleny spent in the Middle East from March 1917 – June 1919. Harry was a Private in the 11th Light Horse Regiment, and left Maleny at the age of 24. He travelled to Egypt and recorded his time away through many photographs and letters home to his family. Harry was one of the fortunate ones, he returned home to Australia late in 1919 and lived until he was 81 years old. Neice Gwen Davis said we are really proud to have our family history included as part of the exhibition. “It will also be a great opportunity for Uncle Harry’s grandchildren to travel from interstate and be a part of the launch” she said. The other three soldiers chosen as part of the exhibition were soldiers that had their ‘dead man’s penny’ in the Landsborough Museum collection.

These are small round plaques approximately 12cm in diameter and cast in bronze, they were given to the next-of-kin of all British and Empire service personnel who were killed as a result of the war. The term ‘dead man’s penny’ is the popular term that was ‘coined’ because of the similarity in appearance to the smaller penny coin. One of the ones that feature in the collection belonged to the next of kin of William Murphy of Maleny. William was killed on July 29, 1916 in France at the beginning of the Battle of Poziers, the first major battle the 26th Battalion fought on the Western Front. He was 27 years of age, and had never married. Initially he was reported as wounded and missing in action, however sadly this was quickly changed to killed in action. James Donald Maddock of Mooloolah, at age 35 had enlisted in the army only 10 months before he was killed, having only served just over one month of action. He died and was buried on the same day at the Trois Arbres Cemetery, in France. The third soldier to be included is Percy George Edwards of Albury in New South Wales. Not being a local to the area, there is more of a mystery as to how the medallion ended up at the Museum. However research has established a link that Percy’s mother had worked for the Tytherleigh family of Landsborough so it is assumed that is how it made its way to Landsborough. Constance (Connie) Emma Lindsay, a Staff Nurse with the Australian Nursing Service who was

Gwen admires the medallion presented to her Uncle by the Maleny Rifle Society before he left for war, which has since been made into a brooch as a keepsake from Buderim Mountain, is also featured in the exhibition. Connie worked at the 60th General Hospital, where she was stationed for the majority of her time in Salonkia in Greece, working in a tent hospital with a nursing staff of 90 and over 1,500 patients. The exhibition incorporates the individual’s journey from before the war, their travel to the war, as well as their own experience during the war.

Landsborough State School's P&C Association recently held its annual coin race to help raise funds for the school. Students gathered Australian coins of any denomination, bringing them into school and depositing them into their class container. After three weeks, all of the containers were then taken to the Commonwealth Bank in Beerwah. There, bank staff Hayley and Sarah, with the assistance of the coin counting machine, tallied each of the containers. An overall total of $826.55 was collected. The class who collected the most 'loose change' was Mrs Faulkner's Prep class who gathered $256.65. This class was treated to a class party prize to celebrate their efforts. P&C President, Jo Brooks, said, the children were very enthusiastic about this fundraiser and the collection jars quickly began to fill up. “It was amazing to see how easily loose change can add up. We are very proud of their efforts," she said. The P&C will spend this money to purchase items which will directly benefit the students.

Wishes for Wes Update By Sonia Clark Things are looking up for local Glenview man Wes Stephen as support from the local community continues to help assist the Stephen family. The family have been overwhelmed with gratitude from the kindness offered by the local community, both from friends and people that know the family - to complete strangers that have empathised with their unfortunate situation. Many people are aware that Wes was involved in a dreadful head on collision in early March along Frizzo Road, Palmview that had left him unable to continue supporting his young family through his property maintenance business. A ‘Wishes for Wes’ raffle night has now been confirmed for Saturday, May 2, starting at 5.00pm at Glenview Gardens with some generous prizes on offer. Tickets can be bought at outlets including Aussie World Fuel, Mooloolah Meats, Mooloolah Chemist and Little Munchkins, Kenny's, Mooloolah Mechanical, Glenview Gardens or email the organisers directly via the Facebook page or at wishesforwes@hotmail.com for more details. Glenview State School recently had a special free dress day to help raise funds with $414.00 deposited into the ‘Wishes for Wes’ account, and offers of help as well as donations of food and vouchers have continued to be gratefully received. For those that would like to make a monetary donation a dedicated ‘Wishes for Wes’ account has been established; BSB: 064 406 Account Number: 107 274 84. Given that his injuries mean that returning to property maintenance is unlikely, Wes is planning to refocus his future energy into helping people invest in Sunshine Coast house and land packages with a return to his previously established residential property investment business - SEQ Property Planners as a way forward. For more details or updates see Facebook.com/wishesforwes

Thank you Beerwah IGA The Beerwah High Chaplaincy Service is one of the 10 local Community Chest Recipients of Beerwah IGA. Last year the current chaplain Mike Turner was really pleased to attend the cheque presentation ceremony and to receive a cheque for $1,000 from the IGA. The program has been operating for 21 years thanks to the wonderful support of the Glasshouse Country Community. Mike has been working five days a week at the school since 2007 – supporting students, families and school staff and also running loads of activities that build resilience and self-confidence in kids, plus camps and community initiatives such as the ‘Dads Day Out’ events, and a great mentoring program. Thanks to Beerwah Supa IGA Community Chest and the store’s customers for their support that assists us in funding the program. By choosing to shop at Beerwah IGA you are already contributing to the funds raised by purchasing identified community chest items that will be shared between the 10 groups. You can assist individual groups further by registering them on your ‘MyIGA’ Card loyalty program. Cards are available in store and are activated when you go through the register. So if you would like to support the good work of our local recipients call in and pick up a card and go online to register it. www.gcnews.com.au

We have been out and about the Sunshine Coast with environmental education, saving the Steve Irwin Way Forest, helping landowners with their council grants, eradicating weeds and planting river corridors. We recently did a two day field trip with Immanuel Lutheran College Year 12 students. This incorporated water quality monitoring along the Mooloolah and South Mooloolah Rivers, Macro-invertebrate classification to identify water conditions, and a canoe trip from Sippy Creek to Kawana.

Assessing water quality with education

The large flood we had in February had rain events over three days of up to 500mms and could have been partly responsible for the low oxygen level at South Mooloolah. This could be due to the washing of nutrients from the landscape and gutters such as animal faeces, and septic tank overflows, poisons, and other types of pollution. I have never seen South Mooloolah River with an oxygen level this low. Further investigations by council or EPA should be done to make sure the water in South Mooloolah river is safe for Mooloolah kids to play in.

We care about our environment

Water quality was not all good. South Mooloolah River at the town bridge had an oxygen reading of 1% - which is very low, whereas in Mooloolah River at Hell’s Hole the oxygen reading was 8.10%. The macro invertebrate count at Hell Hole indicated that the water quality was good and provided a moderately healthy environment for many aquatic macroinvertebrates. The macro-invertebrate count at South Mooloolah came up poor and indicated a poor environment for aquatic macro-invertebrates. Turbidity levels were higher than normal but not out of range.

Glasshouse Mountains Advancement Network Aussies caring for Aussies We are lucky to have a number of local organisations dedicated to the care of sick or injured native wildlife. A huge number ofvolunteers countrywide devote their lives to rescuing, raising or nursing animals, with the ultimate aim of releasing them back into their natural environment. Rehabilitators must have appropriate training, adequate time, suitable facilities and be prepared to meet all the costs incurred, such as for food, housing and some veterinary expenses. Foraging for fresh native foliage is often required; many birds require native blossoms daily, while Koalas and Possums require native foliage. GMAN has recently planted more than 500 trees specifically to provide foliage for Koalas cared for by local group Koala Action Inc. There are basic rules to be adopted if you find an injured native animal or bird. Do not give anything to eat or drink as this can cause further injury or death. Place all animals in a suitable container. Keep them warm, quiet, in a dark location, and away from children, domestic animals and noise. Call your nearest wildlife rescue organisation or vet, and follow their instructions carefully. If you find a Kangaroo, Wallaby, Possum, Glider or Koala that has been injured, make sure you check the pouch – joeys have been known to survive in the mother’s pouch for several days following her death. Do not remove the joey from the mother’s teat as irreparable damage can be done to the joey’s mouth if removed from the teat incorrectly. Bruce Highway upgrades

Last week in Parliament I spoke about upgrades to the Bruce Highway between the Mooloolaba and Caloundra interchanges and requested that the new Labor State Government reassure the Sunshine Coast community that the money committed by the LNP Government in 2013 will continue to flow to these essential upgrades. I also used the opportunity to again raise my views on connecting the new Bells Creek interchange with the Caloundra community and in turn, reassess the requirement for such a large upgrade of the Caloundra interchange. To watch my speech visit my YouTube page https://www.youtube.com/user/MalBroughMP I will continue to keep the community updated.

Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club

As many of you would be aware the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club has fallen on hard times. To raise awareness of the ‘Save our Club’ campaign I took the opportunity to make a statement in Parliament about this icon of the Hinterland. I have very fond memories of the club. My family and I have spent many hours over the years there playing touch footy or watching our children so I understand the significant role the club plays in Sunshine Coast sport. The club committee, new and old, along with Lea at Glasshouse Country News and the community as a whole need to be commended for their work to date in raising money. A special mention must go to Leisa Thistlewaite of Hinterland Accounting Services who has worked tirelessly for the club in recent years and has been a driving force for the ‘Save our Club’ campaign. I encourage anyone who has ever had a connection to the club to consider contacting Leisa at Hinterland Accounting Services on 5439 0188 and to donate to the campaign.

Opening of the 55th Parliament

Last week saw me spend the week in Brisbane where I took part in the official opening of the 55th session of Queensland Parliament. Whilst being my third opening of a new Parliamentary session, I still get the school boy nerves and buzz of excitement at the journey that lies ahead. As your state representative, I am here to advocate the needs and desires of the Glass House people through the debate in the parliamentary chamber. I am able to ask Questions on Notice and give speeches through which I can address what matters to our community and fight to get better outcomes for Glass House. The best way to keep across any news from Parliament is by regularly visiting my website – www.andrewpowell.com.au.

Out and About in Glass House

You hear me go on about small business all the time and, as both the local member and a resident of our great community, I strive to support all our local businesses throughout Glass House whenever I can. In my travels recently I have attended most Chamber of Commerce events and have thoroughly enjoyed catching up with business operators and hearing of their daily challenges and successes. I recently attended the Glasshouse Chamber of Commerce networking dinner where I met new members of the executive including new President Andrew Prescott. I am encouraged by the direction this group are heading in and was so impressed to see how passionate they are about making business work in the Glass House community. Remember, wherever you can ‘Buy Local’ – your little bit will help the local economy and support local employment. While out and about last week I attended the 10th annual Dance for Daniel, held in honour of Daniel Morcombe and also had the chance to participate alongside Chappy Mike, Pastor Brendan and Greg in the ‘SuperDad’s’ lawn bowls team. This unreal day was all about raising money for the Beerwah High School Chappy program. It was such an awesome day out – thanks to the organisers and those that supported this great event.

Domestic Violence

Every day I read of cases of domestic violence and I am saddened to hear that on average, across Australia, one woman is killed by her partner each week. Many women suffer domestic violence, as do some males and sadly, children. Psychological impacts can affect a person for life. What some people don’t realise is that you do not have to be the subject of physical violence, to be a victim of domestic violence. Children who have witnessed violence of this nature can become victims or perpetrators, yet most would suffer psychologically. Statistics from Not Now Not Ever: Putting an end to Domestic and Family Violence in Queensland show that one in 19 men and one in six women are affected by domestic violence. It is estimated over one million children are affected each year as 90% of the time a child is present when a violent incident takes place in the home. Children can suffer serious negative impacts in many aspects of their lives, including health, emotional wellbeing, the ability to learn, and the ability to develop positive relationships with others. Long-term impacts on children include depression, anxiety, trauma symptoms and increased aggression. The report states ‘The underlying effects on children can be that, their ability to understand emotional interaction can be affected and impede on the child’s ability to develop trust and a sense of security and can be highly sensitive to displays of anger, exhibiting aggressive or violent behaviours.’ Domestic violence has no place in our society and is doing enormous damage to our communities and ourselves. It is incredibly sad that domestic violence is one of the highest frequently occurring crimes in Australia. If you or someone you know is experiencing or being subject to domestic violence please contact the Lifeline hotline on 13 11 14, your local police station or dial 000 in emergency situations.

What’s happening at KinderMarlee On Saturday, March 21, KinderMarlee hosted an exhibition of children’s work exploring the theme of ‘Identity’. The works included self-portraits, timber sculptures, photo samples of block work and shadow play. As well as displays of art contributed by children of all ages, there were many interactive experiences to participate in. Recently the service welcomed Professor Deborah Harcourt, a strong advocate for children's rights and the quality of early learning environments with a particular focus on the Reggio Emilia principles. KinderMarlee will be working with Deborah regularly over the coming year to refine innovative practice. The centre is committed to deconstructing common practices in respect for children’s capabilities and to ensure an authentic childhood and has a high focus on autonomy and self-regulation, and developing thinking individuals. KinderMarlee promotes that children belong in a natural community grouping and are not segregated by age. This way a child is able to choose educators and friends to spend time with. Activities are offered across all ages providing a broader range of experiences for children to choose from. KinderMarlee is also looking forward to being a host service on a professional bus tour in May for other services and educators to learn about its methodology.

Hinterland Seafood If you have headed down Peachester Road in Beerwah in the last few weeks you will have noticed the new landscaping work at Turner Park. We caught up with Todd from Hinterland Seafood recently and he said how pleased he was with the result of the work. He reckons the new look is great, it matches the rest of the town now, and looks neat, tidy and more professional. “It is a lot easier for people to see the business now and also provides better access to the outdoor dining area,” Todd said. And if you haven’t seen the improvements, you should check them out if you are heading down to Beerwah, to pick up your fresh local seafood for Easter! Remember to place your order a day ahead of when you need it; Hinterland Seafood will be open from 11.00pm - 8.00am on Good Friday. www.gcnews.com.au

With Anzac day coming up, you may have been thinking about the best way to preserve either your own, or a family member's historic war medals. Husband and wife team, Rod and Jo Eccles who own Frame D’Art, also run a medal mounting service through their Trophies Won business. As professional medal mounters, Rod and Jo have the expertise to ensure your medals are mounted to the highest possible standard, and they can also provide replica medals and badges. Framed medals can also be left open to allow the medals to be taken out and worn. Different mounts are available such as swing and court mounts, and they also specialise in ribbon bars and miniatures. Considerable care is taken to ensure the longevity of these memorable items with, for example, medals being stitched down as opposed to being glued. All medals are professionally cleaned and polished before mounting and all groups of medals have an even drop measuring 9.5cm. School News Say no to bullying

By Sandy Johnson Friday, March 20 was the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. During the week leading up to this day, Glasshouse Country Christian College emphasised the anti-bullying message across the whole school from Prep to Year 12. In the classroom, teachers educated students about what bullying is and encouraged a zero tolerance for any form of bullying. Bullying has also been a major topic at assemblies, and devotional and pastoral care times. Students were reminded about the GCCC Care and Concern program which is a way to report bullying completely anonymously. To highlight the message in a visual way all the staff at Glasshouse Country Christian College dressed up in orange which is the colour of the anti-bullying message. Principal Mike Curtis said in his newsletter address, “I am pleased that we have minimal problems with bullying but we must remain proactive and vigilant to continue to provide a safe and caring environment for our students.”

Shaved and waxed for a Cure

by Olivier Hamill – Student Council Secretary Recently Beerwah State High School held a fund raiser for ‘Shave For a Cure’. Six brave young men, a male teacher and the student council made a huge contribution towards the day. Jye Hillhouse, Joshua Lameratz and Jake Grubner waxed their legs for charity, while Lance McAnalen, Aiden Young, Dom De Hamer and Mr Bateman shaved their heads and raised $20.00 each. Student council ran an ice cream store, where students were able to purchase an ice cream cone for 50 cents. Half of the student council’s profit from the day went to the charity. The fundraiser made $240.00 with many shaved heads, waxed legs and ice cream covered smiles.

You Said It Re: NBN Towers

With the next meeting for Maleny in late April, we are approaching a very important milestone in our community. The residents, tourists and visitors who come to the hinterland expect to experience a beautiful pristine environment which is complemented by good coffee and accommodation. Other businesses, such as wedding venues have also developed, utilising our rural scenic atmosphere. This environment we enjoy does not have to disappear under an NBN forest of communication towers placed within our community. NBN broadband can be provided to the outer community via cable now or satellite in the near future. The town area will be provided with NBN broadband without towers, why should the rest of the Maleny community be subjected to the impost of towers placed within their home locations where they live 24/7? We will have to live with the consequences of a so-called cheaper alternative long after our current politicians and NBN company executives move on. Businesses should consider that if Maleny loses its uniqueness then business can also lose their customers. I implore you to consider all the implications for our community as once these towers are sited near our homes, there will be no turning back. Berkley Foote Maleny

Re: Dob in a kerbside

I was gobstruck to see the member for Glass House Andrew Powell putting his all behind ‘dobbing in’ a kerbside! Ok in principal – except for the utter hypocrisy of the recent visual pollution of his election campaign! Not only was his grinning face plastered ad nauseum all over our pretty countryside (not only singularly but in some cases six of them together), and big banners too. I saw no other candidate pollute to this extent. Worst of all – our ‘then’ Qld Minister for the Environment actually had his signs bolted on with roofing bolts, halfway up the trunks of mature trees which is illegal. We do need safety around our roads, we need weed control, environment protection, care and maintenance of our green places, but maybe you should consider how important this is to local voters before the next election. Susan Richardson Peachester

Heart-warming response

As co-patrons of the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club, we would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude and thanks to everyone in the community and further afield who have so generously supported the club through our crisis. It is indeed very heart-warming to know that the community spirit is alive and well in our little corner of the world. Words are inadequate to express our thanks to each and every one of you, so let it be sufficed for us to say a very humble ‘thank you’. We trust that you will enjoy a safe and happy time in the forthcoming holidays. Ken Fullerton and Gweneth Brooks Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club

Re: Free Range Camping

Thanks to Glasshouse Country & Maleny News for the article about the new Free Range Camping website, which is generating a lot of interest in our Glasshouse Country region. The Glasshouse Country Chamber of Commerce is excited to help launch this new website on April 9, as we can see the many benefits for our region. While the web site is primarily set up to inform travellers, the information will also be valuable to new and existing residents in our area. Just imagine a site which lists all our businesses, big and small, whether they are tied to the tourism market or not! The site can list all our community clubs and services, including churches, CWA markets and meetings, historical groups, Mensheds and community centres. Of course, by having so many of our businesses and community assets listed for the whole of Australia and the world to see, who wouldn’t want to come here for a visit? Please join us for our information sessions, as listed in this edition of the paper. We hope to ‘saturate’ this web site with all our businesses and community groups listed. If you would like to ask further questions before attending the one hour session, feel free to catch up with me at the Beerwah CWA Easter Saturday Craft Markets. I will set up a table to answer questions about the web site, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Beerwah Celebration Street Party. The markets run from 3.00pm to 8.00pm. I will be there until about 6.00pm. Please come and have a chat. I can register your name for the information sessions if you are interested. With so many activities being planned for our region, it will be great to share the information with everyone. Judy Tomlinson Glasshouse Country Chamber of Commerce

NBN again

There appears to be a lot of concern about the looming NBN in the Hinterland. I worked in the industry for over 20 years, retiring a few years ago. Much has been said about existing fibre optic cables and why they cannot be used. These cables do exist and are primarily for the network backbone. They connect all telephone exchanges, mobile phone towers, microwave links etc.

They are designed for high speed, high capacity, long distance communication. To replace existing copper cables with fibre optic is not a simple task. The underground conduits they are installed in may already be full to capacity. To replace them would entail either a completely new installation of the underground infrastructure or removal and replacement of the existing copper cables. Even with the $45 billion that the government have allocated, it would still be an overwhelming project. Properties close to exchanges would not be too difficult. The further away and more remote, the less viable it becomes. Towers are the most feasible option for these situations. There has been a lot of scaremongering concerning microwave transmissions. Having worked around them, I certainly have no desire to stand directly in front of them. However the strength of the signal drops off rapidly and within a few hundred metres is no stronger than the signal from your mobile phone. It is also directional and radiates out horizontally. Standing directly beneath a tower there is very little signal strength. I agree that aesthetically they are confronting and I am sure they could easily be disguised to blend in with the environment. Even painting them green or brown would be an improvement. I question why people are demanding such high speed connection? All buildings in the CBDs of major cities and towns already have fibre connections and have done for many years. It would appear that commerce and industry are already catered for. The majority of the rest of us just want to download movies and play games. It hardly justifies the huge expense. Derek Browning Glass House Mountains

Country style

A bushie from way out in woop woop country was desperately shy and self-conscious, and went up to the lingerie counter of a city store and asked for a brassiere to take home for his wife. “Certainly sir,” said the salesgirl briskly. “What size?” “S-six and s-seven – eighths,” stammered the red-faced soil-stirrer. “I’m afraid we’ve no such fitting – never heard of it, sir.” “W-well, ya see, miss,” the bushie explained, “that’s the size of me hat, and it fits just bonzer….” Norm Glass House Mountains

Tax update

With Hinterland Accounting Services

Time for Tax Planning Do you know how much profit you have made? Do you know if you’re going to have a tax bill? June is fast approaching! Now is the time for tax planning. We can review your affairs and put some strategies in place to help manage your tax and create wealth for the future. It’s important not to leave tax planning until it’s too late. If any of the following apply, you may wish to contact us to determine whether tax planning strategies are suitable for your circumstances: • Increase in income • Decrease in deductions • Sold investments or considering selling shares or investment property • Selling business • Nearing retirement age • Simply want to manage your tax effectively A few suggestions so you can minimise your tax liability are: • Pay all expenses before June 30, 2015 and bring forward / prepay future costs now. • Defer issuing invoices until after June 30, 2015. • Delay collecting outstanding income until next financial year. • Capital Gains Tax is based on the signing date of the contact and not the settlement date, so consider deferring signing until after June 30.

• Investment property expenses can be paid for before June 30 i.e. prepay interest on loan, get those repairs done now, etc. • Medicare Levy Surcharge – don’t pay unnecessary tax; ensure you have the correct amount of coverage for your income level. At Hinterland Accounting Services, we are of the belief that a pro-active approach to tax planning can make a significant impact on your tax liabilities and assist in your longer term wealth creation. Cashing in on the ATO Co-Contributions Rules (2014 / 15) The federal government is giving away tax-free money to anyone who makes a non-concessional (after tax) contribution to their super fund who earns less than $49,488. If you earn more than $34,488 your cocontribution reduces until it cuts out at $49,488. Therefore if you contribute $1,000, the ATO tops up to a maximum contribution of $500 if you meet the contribution rules. Time limits for Family Assistance payments Centrelink Clients who have claimed or want to claim family assistance payments for the 2014 financial year must have lodged their 2014 Income tax return or advised Centrelink they do not need to lodge by June 30, 2015.

Hinterland Accounting's soon to be new premises in Turner Street, Beerwah Notice of Data Matching Program The ATO is acquiring details of entities that receive contractor payments from other businesses. Data may also be collected from other businesses associated with the primary businesses. The data items that will be obtained are: • ABN and names of both parties involved • Address and phone details of the contractor • Dates of payments to the contractors • Amounts paid (incl. details of whether the payment included GST) The purpose of this data matching program is to ensure that taxpayers are correctly meeting their taxation obligations in relation to contractor payments / income. The ATO are currently sending out notices where undeclared income on a tax return is different to the Taxable Payment Report sent to the ATO by the employer. This will have a following on effect for Centrelink and Child Supports Payments. To book an appointment, call the girls at Hinterland Accounting on 5439 0188.

This have a talk with your mortgage provider Your individual position can change at the drop of a hat. Whether you change jobs or decide to extend your family, you might find that the mortgage you first chose all those years ago may no longer fit your needs. However, you also need to think carefully before making the shift to another home loan. Here are some common scenarios when home loan refinancing might be a solution for you. Renovations Renovating your home is one the most common reasons for refinancing. In fact, a Roy Morgan Research survey released last year showed that more and more Australians are taking a keen interest in home decorating and design - almost 6.8 million households admitted to keeping up with the latest trends in July 2014. work on your home, it might make sense to refinance your mortgage to make space for a construction loan. Significant construction work, like extending your home or adding a pool, might require you to free up additional cash from your existing home loan. Refinancing can help in this regard. Shifting to a construction loan can actually save you money in the long term, as you only pay interest on the money you need during the building process.

It can often be difficult to juggle debt in your monthly budget, but refinancing can present an opportunity to roll the multiple debts into your home loan. This can potentially save you hundreds of dollars in interest repayments, as you are combining a number of high interest debts under a lower rate loan umbrella. Whatever your reasons for home loan refinancing, do your research and get advice before you switch.

TMD is a chronic pain condition that affects the jaw joint, and its associated structures (such as the neck and chewing muscles). It affects more women than men at a rate of 4:1. Sufferers of TMD are more likely than people without pain to have suffered trauma, grind and clench their teeth, suffer from other forms of chronic pain disorder (such as migraine, tension headache, irritable bowel, fibromyalgia), and have nonpainful TMJ symptoms such as jaw noise and limitation of mandibular opening. The most common forms of TMJ pain are arthralgia (or pain in the joint itself) and myofascial pain (muscle pain). Pain that is coming from the joint may be related to a disc displacement disorder (from a bad trauma to the head area) or a click or intermittent locking. It can also be related to degenerative, psoriatic or rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune or congenital disorders. Myofascial pain or muscle pain is something that about 70% of the population experiences. It can be localised to the head and neck region or can be more widespread. In general the management of myofascial pain involves stress management, regular exercise, good posture and body mechanics, healthy diet, and adequate restorative sleep. Living - Music Music Today

with Dr Michael Whiticker

Doing their bit behind the scenes A friend recently asked me to play her old upright piano. I was happy to oblige as I knew how much she enjoyed music. My short performance, beginning with a blues and ending with an improvisation based loosely on a set of chords was all right by my standards, but she was over the moon, excited to have her piano played “so wonderfully”. I had a chuckle to myself but it turned into a big grin some weeks later when she told me how it had inspired her to start practicing again. That has stayed with me, as over the last few days, I have been trading thoughts with local musician and teacher Jon Brown. We have been discussing the establishment of an organisation called JamNet Sunshine Coast – ‘a network of people committed to creating musical opportunity’. The main aim of the organisation is to ‘create a greater awareness of what’s happening in open access music events around the coast, and to provide opportunities to 'cross-fertilise' and share with others who have the same passion and commitment...’ Jon is driving the whole thing and enlisting the involvement of local movers and shakers from the musical world. From my point of view you can’t do enough to awaken the musician or artist in each of us. Many tell me how much music and the arts has given them, how fulfilling and therapeutic and of immeasurable value it is, not just for themselves, but for family and friends who share their lives. I met Jon three years ago as he started attending the open-mic events that I run four times a month in the Glasshouse area. www.glasshousemusos. com.au. He is the sort of musician you love to have walk in the door – a generous individual who as well as being an excellent lead and backing singer, plays guitar, bass and keyboards with style. I know little of his work at the Glasshouse Country Christian College, but I’m sure he is a wonderful asset to their staff. He moves quietly in the music scene, and probably keeps a low profile in his professional life, going about business at the highest level he can muster, inspiring others to go that little bit further. I dedicate this Music Today column to Jon, and to others like him who make such a big difference albeit behind the scenes without fanfare or fuss but who make things happen that benefit us all.

Michael teaches music students from his home studio and runs the Glasshouse Muso’s Club. If you would like to find out more contact him on M: 0419 026 895 or E: mwhitick@bigpond.net.au

Evening in Concert with three Legends An ‘Evening in Concert with three Legends’ Chad Morgan, Shane Howard and Neil Murray, will take place at the Maleny Community Centre on Friday, April 10 at 7.30pm. This very special one-off event is the culmination of a project instigated by Maleny artist / musician Peter Hudson. In 2013 when Peter heard Chad sing a song about his European and Aboriginal grandparents titled - ‘The Ballad of Bill and Eva’ he was so taken by the song he contacted Chad and arranged for it to be recorded in Connondale, with later collaboration from Shane and Neil. Chad Morgan, the Sheik from Scrubby Creek is the last country music legend standing. He has out-sung, out-drunk and outlived his famous contemporaries. He is now 82 and still a consummate performer with a great sense of humour, as his recently released DVD says ‘Not Dead Yet’. Shane Howard’s hit song ‘Solid Rock’ from his band Goanna, is the iconic Australian song that lit the fuse 30 years ago for his music. Neil Murray is a founding member of The Warumpi Band, with hit songs such as ‘My Island Home’, ‘Blackfella Whitefella’. Support act is Maleny’s Noel Gardner with his songs that touch the social conscience and are stepped in the natural elements of our landscape. Tickets are limited, a licensed bar will operate on the night. Tickets are $30.00 / $27.00 (conc.) and are available at Maleny Visitor Information Centre. Great eats and treats to find locally!

The Lookout Cafe The drive up to The Lookout Cafe was picturesque and provided a lovely introduction to the serene yet majestic view of the Glass House Mountains. Once again, I was reminded of just how lucky we are to have such a stunning landscape practically in our backyard, and when you arrive, the whole layout of the cafe lends itself well to fully appreciating the amazing backdrop. Although Lea and Brownie are regular diners, it’s been a while since I’ve been there and the renovations that were completed just after Easter last year, looks great. The Cafe has a bright and airy feel with seating for about 40 people, complemented by artwork on the walls and a small selection of giftware and soaps. It is a great place to bring visitors, especially as

the actual Glass House Mountains lookout is just further up the road. You could enjoy some local sightseeing followed by either breakfast, lunch or morning or afternoon tea. Lea ordered the ‘Big Burger ‘which had a 100% mince pattie with the works and a side of chips ($16.00) while I went for the Nachos with guacamole and sour cream ($12.00) athough I was tempted by the sweet caramelised onion tart layered with camembert. Of course I had a coffee, and Lea had a refreshing looking ice coffee. We also ordered the sweet potato wedges ($10.50) that were really tasty to take back to Brownie in the office. The menu has something for everyone with plenty to choose from, such as all day breakfasts, light meals and snacks, and a variety of lunch options

The Lookout Cafe

such as lasagne, quiche of the day, sandwiches and burgers. The cafe features a daily specials board as well as a cabinet filled with yummy looking homemade sweet treats ($6.50). Although Lea and I were totally full after our lunch, we did cast an eye over the sweets cabinet, and were impressed with the excellent cheesecake selection (Malteser cheesecake yum!). There was also muffins, gluten free options, and homemade apple pie on offer. Open 9.00am - 3.00pm weekdays and 9.00am - 4.00pm weekends. Open all throughout the Easter break.

We are open over the Easter weekend Usual trading hours

Thelie Hobbs - Suncoast Church Hinterland Easter and Christmas are two of my favourite times of the year. While Christmas brings peace, Easter brings hope! It doesn’t matter what is going on in my life around this time of year. I always feel a fresh sense of hope. I’m not talking about an ‘I – hope - so’, kind of hope. I’m talking about an ‘I – know -so’, kind of hope. Sometimes life is difficult and it doesn’t always turn out the way we had planned, and sometimes situations and circumstances can change our attitude from hopeful to hopeless. I can’t think of a more heartbreaking word in the English language than hopeless. You may be reading this today and you might be going through a really hard time where stress is overwhelming your life and making you feel like there is no hope - but there is hope for you again! Jesus came to bring hope to the hopeless and He is able and willing to fill your life with fresh hope and purpose!

1st & 3rd Sun. 10:30am Peachester UC Worship

If you honestly say, ‘Jesus is Lord’ and if you believe with all your heart that God raised Him from death, you will be saved.’ (Romans 10:9). Saved from what? Saved from living this life without hope and more importantly, saved from an eternity without any hope. Despite all that is going on in your world, your situation is never hopeless when you trust in Jesus. So to you dear reader, who took the time to read this article today, that is the message of Easter I hope to leave with you...there is always HOPE!

In the Garden Down & Dirty with Brownie April is a great month for the garden … it’s beginning to cool down, you can plant your winter veggies, the insect pests slow down … meaning that you can get a lot achieved before the days start to shorten too much. Spending time in your garden this Easter is a great way to relax and recharge your soul.

Jobs for the yard in April

• Plant sweet peas, snow peas, sugar snap peas, climbing peas and bush peas. Maybe try asparagus peas. Plant as either seed or seedlings into soil that has had some dolomite added. • Start to reduce the frequency you mow the lawn and start raising the blade height to allow the grass to keep a reasonable amount of leaf during the cooler months. • Fertilise your roses, especially if you haven’t done it for a few years. • It’s time to dig up, divide and replant your hippeastrum and lilium bulbs. • Bougainvillea cuttings can be taken now and struck in a good propagation mix. • Clean up the last of the summer vegetable crops. Use all the prunings, weeds and the remains of summer vegetables that have finished, to start a compost heap. • Plant new pawpaw trees, apply some boron to existing plants at a rate of 20 grams per tree and spray them with a copper spray if black spot is seen. • Carefully cut off side shoots of bromeliads to create new plants. Plant these in the garden or in pots using a well-drained potting mix. Vegetables Plant beetroot, broccoli, radish, cabbage, leafy lettuce, carrot, celery, cauliflower, asian greens, garlic, leeks, spring onion, potatoes, sweet potato, turnip, kohl rabi, capsicum, chilli, silver beet, beans and tomato. Flowers Plant alyssum, petunia, marigold, carnation, sweet pea, gaillardia, everlasting daisy, livingstone daisy, sunflower, verbena, pansy, viola, primula, snapdragon, nemesia, iceland poppy, dianthus, cleome and salvia.

RSL Spirit of Anzac Grevillea launched

A special plant has been propagated especially for the Centenary of Anzac. Senator Ronaldson said the ‘RSL Spirit of Anzac Grevillia’ was a distinctly Australian plant that would provide a sense of ‘home’ at international memorial events. “The hardy, attractive shrub will be a floral tribute to the first major military action by Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli 100 years ago,” Senator Ronaldson said. “The grevillea was cultivated by Perth’s Botanic Gardens and Parks Authorities, with the vibrant red colours serving as a reminder of the harsh realities of war and the bloodshed on the battlefields. “Planting this grevillea at commemorative sites and cemeteries within Australia and overseas will provide an intrinsically Australian element to the final resting place of those who sacrificed all for their country,” Senator Ronaldson said. The selection of the RSL Spirit of Anzac grevillea is particularly significant as it is the only plant that has approval to include ‘Anzac’ in its title.

ANZAC Memorial Garden

Contributed by Ali Marks The children of Landsborough Community Kindergarten are very appreciative of the generosity of Bunnings at Caloundra and the Beerwah RSL in supporting them in their efforts to create an ANZAC memorial garden. We would like to thank Howard from Bunnings Caloundra for the donation of rosemary shrubs and potting mix which has allowed the children to complete our special garden. Thanks also to Beerwah Peachester Sub-branch for their generous donation, our ANZAC plaque. We would like to extend our thanks for their support in helping us to create our Landsborough Community Kindergarten ANZAC Memorial Garden.

Royal Palms open to the public

Combining their twin passions – gardening and ceramic art – Len and Enid Wilkinson have created a lush space full of vibrant plants, providing the perfect backdrop to display Len’s large, bold pots and Enid’s smaller sculptures. They will be opening their garden over the weekend of April 11 and 12 at 192 Mons Road, Buderim from 10.00am – 4.30pm for viewing. Named for the impressive avenue of Cuban Royal palms at the entrance, this stunning garden is arranged on various terraces around the house, with a wide variety of subtropical foliage plants, such as bromeliads, heliconias, cordylines and crotons, displayed en masse. Beneath a remnant rainforest canopy, lawn terraces hold wide borders of plants that provide year-round colour and interest. From the stairs leading down to the lower terrace, the gorgeous tapestry of ground covers and manicured shrubs on the slope below, is revealed. Light refreshments will be available and plants will be for sale. Some of Len and Enid’s ceramic pieces will also be for sale. Cost to enter is $10.00 and under 18s free.

Sport Will it be a hat trick for Stanley? Contributed by Andrea Balcombe P&C Peachester Primary prides itself on its sporting achievements and keen focus has been given to ball sports and athletics this term. The seniors have had the opportunity to be guided by Mr Stephen Hammill, grandfather of student Ryan, in developing softball skills. The oval has seen some serious action in the development of the students’ eye hand coordination and batting skills, with additional help provided by PE teacher Mr John McKie. As the term comes to a close, training and preparation is going towards cross-country competition, which will be held Tuesday, March 31. The starter’s gun will be fired at 9.00am, an encouraging and supportive crowd of parents and friends are expected, cheering on the enthusiastic budding athletes as they circumnavigate the

school’s cross-country running course. The Preps will start with a 500m run and as the grades rise, so does the expectation, with the seniors competing over six laps of the school. Students have been training for eight weeks in preparation for the big event. Sporting house teams Stanley and Coochin are fighting for cross country supremacy, with Stanley out in front for the past two years!

Local strongman places third

Beerburrum strongman Tim O'Shea, placed third in the top division of the Qld Strongman Series in Brisbane on Sunday. The event was huge, with an amazing 46 athletes across five divisions, and with six athletes joining Tim in the top division. Tim had to farmers? carry 130kg in each hand, overhead press a 60kg monster dumbbell and 120kg axle multiple times, lift heavy deadlifts for reps, load a medley of kegs and sandbags, and lift a 141kg atlas stone five times to achieve his third place finish.

Tim said it was an absolute thrill to place third in a really strong field. “I'm really excited to see what the rest of the strongman series brings,” he said.

White belts stand out at grading San Taekwondo’s grading last week showed the skills of our local up-and-coming champions. Overseen by 4th Dan head instructors Norm Taylor and Cheryl Thorpe, 18 students graded with about half being new white belts attempting their first promotion. Although not all students passed, the standard was very high overall. Grading is designed to test skill, fitness and the respect, concentration and discipline developed through classes. Students perform a series of technical drills, kicking skills, sparring and higher levels must break timber. Norm said it’s another exciting year for San. “Several students are on track to achieve their black belts after years of hard work,” he said. The standout students were the white belts,

Just for Laughs

It Costs No More To Hire A Proven Professional

No bull A couple go to an agricultural show way out in the countryside on a fine Sunday afternoon and are watching the auctioning off of bulls. The guy selling the bulls announces the first bull to be auctioned off. "A fine specimen, this bull reproduced 57 times last year." The wife nudges her husband in the ribs and comments, “see! That was more than once a week!" The second bull is to be sold. "Another fine specimen, this wonder reproduced 120 times last year." Again the wife bugs her husband, "hey, that's more

than twice a week. What do you say to that?" Her husband is getting really annoyed with this comparison. The third bull is up for sale, "and this extraordinary specimen reproduced 365 times last year!" The wife slaps her husband on the arm and yells, "that's once a day, every day of the year! How about you?" The husband was pretty irritated by now and yells back, "sure, once a day! Great! But, you ask the auctioneer if they were all with the same cow!" Real Estate News

Fantastic Results by the Laurie Evans Team

What an exciting and busy few weeks we have had at Laurie Evans Real Estate! Our sales team has been selling properties left, right and centre and in very short periods of time, a few of which have sold before they have even hit the internet. In addition to this, they have been achieving sales prices which have set new records for some areas and all very close to listing price. This means our clients have been exceptionally happy with both prices and sales timeframes, which in turn makes us incredibly happy real estate professionals. As always our turnover for rentals has also been very quick and we are now on the hunt for both sales and rental listings because our results show that in both areas a property that is priced right in the market will move. If you are considering selling or renting, please give our professional, helpful and attentive staff at Laurie Evans Real Estate a call and you too could have sold or rented your property in the blink of an eye.
