JUNE 1 2016
Hi Everyone
W
ow, what a great Maleny Show it was this year – we arrived early on Friday, always best when we are trying to get lots of great social pics, before the little ones start to get tired! Fortunately with such great weather there were plenty of families about, everyone was in good spirits and the kids seemed to be having loads of fun, (particularly in the petting zoo area). While the animals, including goats, guinea pigs, and real pigs seemed to be happy with the food, some of those baby chickens and ducks must have gone home a little traumatised from all that gentle handling. At one stage – I think it was when a class of students from Montville State School (no public holiday for them) were coming in the gate, I did see a cute little piggie (Babe style) try and slip through the legs of those entering the enclosure, and try and make a run for it. It is great to see that the show is still going strong having presented their 79th annual show this year – and it is great to see that the Show Society bring new and different events and entertainment so that many members of our local community can enjoy such a great event. Regards,

Local News Putting themselves to the test By Lea Parkes
MF Martial Arts recently held their grading day at the Beerwah State School Hall. Ladies from Maleny, Landsborough, Beerwah and Glass House took the opportunity to test themselves both physically and mentally. The ladies only program was introduced to the schedule of classes last year and it has been great to see the ladies take to these classes with enthusiasm and indomitable spirit. Students who are doing the Ladies Only Kickboxing program range in age from early teens to mid-forties and they all have different reasons and motivation for why they come to class. Reasons include weight loss, strength, selfesteem, socialising, self-defence and confidence. While gradings are not compulsory, many choose to grade as it is a great way to measure their individual progression and improvements. The ladies find these gradings both challenging and rewarding in their own way. Gradings are a great tool to help set and accomplish new goals.

Have your say on Conondale Sport and Recreation Reserve Residents and the sport and recreation community are invited to have their say as Sunshine Coast Council develops the Conondale Memorial Sport and Recreation Reserve Master Plan. Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said the Plan will consider sport, recreation and community pursuits within the Conondale locality and wider region. “The Plan will investigate usage and determine the most appropriate type of sport, recreation and community uses at the Reserve over the next 15 years,” Cr McKay said. “We want to ensure the master planning is practical and considers the expectations and capacity of council and stakeholders. Sport and leisure consultants, Otium Planning Group, have been engaged to assist council in undertaking this study. Cr McKay said there are several ways those interested in the study can engage directly with the consultants to ensure the community have ample opportunity to express their views throughout the project. “This will include individual meetings, letter box drops, newspaper advertisements, dedicated email address or phone available to all community members,” Cr McKay said. “It is important to note council has not made a commitment to fund all recommendations from the Master Plan. Its implementation will require external funding assistance.

Council is however of the view that this site has enormous potential so it is important that we plan in an orderly and consultative manner. “As recently appointed trustee of the site by the State Government, it’s vital to have a wellresearched plan in place to ensure council is aware of the needs of stakeholders and the community and is able to take advantage of funding opportunities as they arise. “This is an important project for the people of Condondale and the entire Sunshine Coast region and we look forward to hearing from residents.” Community feedback will continue throughout the master planning process and will close when the Plan is endorsed by Council. The community can share their views on the project by contacting the consultants Otium Planning by emailing conondalereserve@ otiumplanning.com.au or phoning 3040 0754. Submissions close 5.00pm Friday, June 17. Visit council’s website for more information.

Significant father / son moment Glasshouse Country Contributed by Kyra Quinn
Beerwah Bulldogs Rugby League Football Club celebrated a fantastic milestone over the weekend when Graham Green, a long standing Senior Men’s player, played alongside his son, U18’s Shiden Green in his Open Men’s debut. Graham started playing for the Beerwah Bulldogs 15 years ago and has been in their line up, and an influential part of their Men’s team, over this time. Graham always turns up to play and play hard for his beloved Bulldogs. He is an important face and presence around the club, along with his lovely wife and six children. The oldest of the six children, Shiden Green, has been watching on from the sidelines since he was three-years-old. Shiden grew to have a love for the game (and even more so the Doggies) and at eight years of age he had his first game. From that very first game, the dream of Graham and Shiden playing side by side one day had begun. While Graham has attempted to retire more times that we care to mention, the overriding desire to play beside his son kept him going, and last Saturday it happened. The event happened in true ‘Green’ style, on debut, Shiden scored a try and drew first place for the games players player, an honour that all players hold in high esteem. What a magnificent start for the younger Green, and a true honour for the eldest. Congratulations to all the Green family on an amazing and heartwarming achievement. It is our honour and pleasure to have you a part of our Bulldogs Family. (Image by KT Jean Photography)
Chaplaincy Golf Classic Contributed by Mike Turner On Friday, June 17, the local state school chaplaincies are hosting a golf day at the Beerwah Golf Club. The ‘Glasshouse Country Chaplaincy Golf Classic’ will hit off at 12.00noon with lunch and registration taking place from 11.00am. For chaplains Nikki, Linda, Donna and Mike, this event is the major fundraiser for the year. All profits go to the chaplaincy services at Beerburrum, Beerwah, Glass House Mountains and Landsborough State Schools and Beerwah State High School. Chaplains are an important part of school support teams; they work alongside guidance officers, school nurses and Indigenous workers to provide support to students. They support kids who are dealing with issues such as anxiety, depression, bullying, grief, anger, domestic violence, relationship problems and low self-esteem. They assist teaching staff with the educational goals of students; provide mentoring programs, camps and loads of other activities, that help build confidence and resilience in young people. Chaplains have a unique role in that they are also there as a support to families and staff members. Thank you to all those businesses who have already come on board with this event as hole sponsors and who are bringing teams to play. This event is a lot of fun and is a great opportunity for work colleagues to spend some time together out of the office and at the same time supporting a worthy cause. If you would like to enter a team please contact Andrew Pearce on 0410 616 982 or andrew@ blissfulbellies.com.au for further information. Chappies Linda, Nikki, Donna and Mike

Top Show
The 79th Annual Maleny Show has been declared a success, with Show Society President Ivan Hankinson saying it was the best show ever, with the biggest number of show goers through the gates. "Thanks to all of the wonderful dedicated volunteers, event and display participants, stall holders, as well lots of visitors through the gate for making this year the best on record," Ivan said. This year the Show Society ran the ‘Shopping Spree’ competition for the second time where $3,000.00 worth of local shopping vouchers were given away as prizes and this was really popular, particularly with the locals. Congratulations to the winners who had to be present at the time of the draw, at 5.00pm each day. Congratulations to Friday winners, $500.00 went to Paulette Berney of Beerwah and $1,000.00 went to Katherine Thompson of Beerwah. Saturday’s winners were $500.00 to M Steffens from Mitchelton in Brisbane and $1,000.00 to Beverley Heading, Maleny. Also it was great to see Maleny Commerce really got behind the ‘Window Dressing’ competition which motivated many new entrants this year. The involvement of so many local businesses was great for building
up the excitement in the weeks' leading up to the show. Congratulation to the winners who were: Window display: 1st – Rosetta Books (champion ribbon and $50.00) – holistic approach to their storewide recycling – very informative (a close second to MA&C but their votes got them in the lead), 2nd – Maleny Co-op (white ribbon and $25.00) – interesting use of reclaimed metal in their display, good community support and 3rd – Chic & Sassy (red ribbon and $25.00 – really creative approach to fashion with recycling the last edition of the Range News and completing it with copies of the Glasshouse Country & Maleny News as well and paper doilies. Inside shop display: 1st – Maleny Town & Country (champion ribbon and $50.00) – bountiful in repurposed items (I got some wonderful tips on reusing things), 2nd – Maleny Medical Centre (white ribbon and $25.00) – unique scarecrow and pot woman out on the front bench, 3rd – Maleny Diner (red ribbon and $25.00) – a great farm table top with recycled materials. Following the show, the Show Society President Ivan Hankinson hosted a lunch for 90 of the volunteers who backed up on the Sunday for the pull down and pack up (pictured) Ivan reckons they have done an amazing job restoring the grounds and work will now begin on planning for the 80th Annual Show in 2017. Check out pages 28 and 29 for more photos.

Rally adventure for B1 and B2 Earlier in the year, GC&M News introduced you to Bronwyn Graves and her co-driver Holly Butler who made up Team B1 and B2 for the 2016 Sh#tbox Rally that would travel from Mackay to Hobart for fun and fundraising, for the Cancer Council. Bronwyn describes the adventure as incredible. “The roads, the people we met, the sights we saw, the wonderful food / smiles at each and every town presented for us and the incredible adventure we got to experience were once in a lifetime,” she said. Due to torrential drought breaking rain on day three of the rally, the girls ended up with more water in their tent than outside, and the route had to be changed as roads had been cut. Drenched, muddy, and sleepless, yet with high, excited spirits they set off on a small detour to Cobar. “Our car handled all kinds of terrain from rocky dirt roads, to sandy dirt roads (on both of which it snow ploughed the rocks out of the way for all the other cars) to torrential drought breaking rain, mud... you name it she handled it,” said Bronwyn. Unfortunately late on day five, on their way down from Mount Hotham on rocky roads, in a whiteout to a little country town called Dargo, the car broke down and was rolled into town on a trailer. Arriving in town at 8.00pm they raced to the triage bay to see if she could be revived. The head mechanic told them the bad news due to a snapped timing belt and nowhere to get one at that time of night, Clarence the car was

condemned to the wrecking yard in Dargo. Luckily the girls were able to jump into one of their team mate’s cars to finish the last two days and made it to Hobart, albeit in a pink commodore. “We just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the local businesses such as yourself, Beerwah IGA, Scott Mountain Auto Electrics, and Lakes Hyundai, as well as all the individuals who made this trip possible. “Without your support we would never have gotten to experience this incredible adventure, or be able to contribute just over $5,500 to the total $1.54 million raised by The Sh#tbox Rally for Cancer research. So cheers once again to all those who pitched in,” said Bronwyn.

Why is a product so cheap? by Ian Hall, from All Energy HQ I just spoke to Cheryl, who answered our 104.9FM radio advert about a free solar check up. Cheryl had a solar system installed by the same national company that is offering Bosch inverters with solar panels for a very cheap price. Every TV advert break currently features this company. Cheryl said they told her that the system she purchased would cover her $300 bill. With only on an 8 cent feed-in tariff, such a statement by this solar company is absolute bulldust, as Cheryl has found out. Did Cheryl really get true value? Cheryl said that she and her husband had not made any progress with this company’s head office in Victoria. “The after sales service just does not exist. They are just not interested once they have made the sale.” So this is one of the problems locals face when dealing with non-Sunshine Coast businesses. Then ask yourself … why is a product so cheap? Within just 15 years, conventional energy production and transport (poles and wires) will have been rendered obsolete by the revolution taking place in batteries, solar power and electric cars. The startling thesis by energy disruption guru and Stanford University lecturer Tony Seba has been around for a couple of years but after originally being dismissed as crazy, is now catching serious attention from investors. There is ‘no excuse’ for any Board of a utility in Australia not to know what’s coming, he says, outlining a world with little centralised power generation, 100 percent electric vehicles and minimal private car ownership.

Neighbourly nibbles
Contributed by Natasha Odgers Laughs and chatter filled the home verandah of newcomers to Glass House Mountains, David and Valerie, when they invited their new neighbours around for Friday evening drinks and nibbles. David and Valerie recently moved from an apartment in Townsville to come and enjoy peaceful living in their new home with a nice garden in a friendly street. Valerie said they both come from the Manon, David, Valerie and James country originally and would like to feel part of a community again. “We have enjoyed meeting and chatting with people when going for walks in our street. We put invitations into everyone’s mailboxes and have been looking forward to getting to know our neighbours more,” Valerie said. One neighbour who moved in when the street was first built, said there hasn’t been much of this type of neighbourly get-togethers since the original days about 20 years ago. Most people in the street used to socialise often, or at the very minimum, know who each other was. Some people said now they don’t know many people in the street. There is a park in the street which David has his eye on for another neighbourly get-together in the future. “The park is a great space in our street for everyone to enjoy. I could easily take across our barbecue one weekend to have a shared lunch or dinner,” David said. At the end of the two-hour neighbours nibbles, people were saying how much they enjoyed seeing each other and for some, to meet for the first time. One neighbour brought along a street map for people to plot which houses they live in as another way to acquaint themselves. If you have a nice story about living in your neighbourhood, please contact GC&M News so they can share it with the rest of the community.
Support Relay for Life
Relay For Life is Cancer Council Queensland’s largest fundraising event. It is a chance for caring communities to recognise and celebrate those who have overcome cancer or are undergoing treatment, as well as the people who care for them. The event also provides an opportunity to celebrate the memory of loved ones lost to cancer. This year the Central Sunshine Coast Relay for Life will be held from Saturday-Sunday, August 6 and 7 from 2.00pm until 8.00am at the Nambour Showgrounds and the call has gone out to local businesses, organisations and community members to support this incredibly worthwhile event. Every dollar raised goes towards funding vital research, prevention and support programs. Both Maleny Credit Union and Maleny Cheese have entered a team and now they are looking for other groups to join them. Nicole Hilton from Maleny Credit Union is the local organiser and this is the first year that the Credit Union will be entering a team. Local fundraising is currently underway with street stalls, raffles and local business support helping to raise funds for the event. “So many people have been touched by cancer in our community, and everybody knows of somebody who has been affected. This is a truly life changing event that can allow great things to happen – it is also a lot of fun,” said Nicole. If you would like to enter a local team or find out more, please contact Nicole on 0404 232 770. Raffle tickets can be bought at the Maleny Credit Union (Maple Street, Maleny) and donations are tax deductable.

Greenland comes to Glasshouse Country
By Lea Parkes Peachester Hall felt a little like a summer’s day in ‘Greenland’ when the Peachester and Beerwah CWA groups met for lunch to celebrate this year’s CWA International Day. As you would expect the meal was prepared to reflect a traditional Greenland menu (with maybe a few slight adjustments). Unfortunately I missed the main meal prepared by the Peachester CWA ladies, but was lucky enough to arrive in time for dessert. This was a selection of three tasty sweets made by the Beerwah CWA ladies, and I can say the ‘Cherry Slab’ was an absolute sweet sensation. The food prepared came from a CWA recipe
book which featured some very interesting items including Wild Pot of Musk Oxen (replaced with beef) Braised Red Cabbage with marmalade jam, and hot potato salad. Acting International Officer Cath Howitt co-ordinated the educational display on Greenland along with some creative entries from the Peachester State School in the colouring in and poster competitions. An informative documentary on Greenland, along with a special guest appearance of a Siberian Husky, was an absolute highlight of the day.

Artistic roots
The Maleny Printmakers will be holding their Annual Exhibition ‘Roots’ at Vianta from May 29 - June 26, and it opens at 6.00pm on Friday, June 3. Maleny Printmakers is a small group of local printmakers, promoting the beauty and variety of what can be created in printmaking, in all its forms. Printmaking in Australia is experiencing a resurgence, and Maleny Printmakers are participating wholeheartedly in this renaissance. Six artists: Michele Deveze, Kevin Grealy, Julie Hanrahan, Kim Hodge, Jacky Lowry, and Steph McLennan are participating in the exhibition ‘Roots’. Steph, who has lived from Moree and Mundubbera, to Rabaul and Arawa, and has now settled at Montville, has experimented with a broad range of media as she travelled. She has focussed on the concept of her home Tunkullum, named for the tree growing at the gate, Macaranga tanarius, which has been a constant for four generations of her family. As she says, “this place has rooted our feet to the ground and kept us all on an even keel through life’s ups and downs.” Two of the prints in this exhibition
were created from offcuts from buildings on the property. Jacky, who grew up in the Canning River area of Western Australia, and has lived some of her life on the Nullarbor or on a yacht, studied Art in the 1990s majoring in textiles and printmaking. For her, roots symbolise stability, and a source of nourishment; underlying, anchoring foundations; origins and deeply influencing sources. She explains, “the colours, patterns and graphic contrasts in nature, plus the ever-changing patterns of reflections and ripples on the river became a foundational part of my aesthetic.” Kim has studied and worked as a graphic artist for almost 30 years. “Printmaking for me presents an opportunity to create an image in multiple (the edition) or a single image off a printing plate, not unlike image reproduction in graphic design,” she says. “The difference with printmaking is the handmade nature and mystery of not quite knowing how the image will reveal itself until the paper is lifted off the plate, quite unlike the precise nature of commercial print.” In preparing works for this exhibition she has found the opportunity to combine her love for reductive lino prints with her favourite trees – Mangroves. Julie’s linocuts are based on Australian Flora and are hand printed in limited editions. Each print is then hand painted with water colours. In this way each image is slightly different. Kevin studied for his degree in Art Education at the University of Calgary, Canada. One of his lecturers was Toshi Yoshida, a fifth generation wood-block printer in the ukiyo-e tradition, which had included giants like Hokusai and Hiroshige. He has translated the skills and techniques of a very Japanese genre of printmaking into work
that reflected his own culture and his preferred subject matter – the Glasshouse Mountains. Michele has studied art three times and has not completed a qualification! There was always too much other stuff to do. She describes her work as ‘stories without words’. The work that she has prepared for this exhibition explores ideas of roots as pathways – of exploration, of reiteration, of discovery, of habitude, of necessity. Roots may be a supporting structure, or a constraining edifice; roots may provide avenue for growth and expansion, or they may limit potential growth. Let the stories speak for themselves. Maleny Printmakers’ exhibition ‘Roots’ will be on display at Vianta Arts, 70 Simpson Street, Beerwah. Light refreshments will be served at the opening, and an a la carte menu will be available from 7.00pm – for table bookings call Vianta on 0412 312 399. VOTING RULES HAVE CHANGED?
Make your vote count this federal election Saturday 2 July At this year’s federal election, the way you vote for the Senate has changed and it’s important that you understand how to vote correctly. On the large white Senate ballot paper, you can choose to vote either above or below the line. If you choose to vote above the line, you now need to number at least 6 boxes. Put the number ‘1’ in the box for the party or group that is your first choice, a ‘2’ for your second choice and so on until you’ve numbered at least 6 boxes.
If you choose to vote below the line, you need to number at least 12 boxes, from 1 to 12, for individual candidates in the order of your choice. Voting for the House of Representatives has not changed. On the green ballot paper, you need to number every box, starting with the number ‘1’ for your first choice, ‘2’ for your second choice and so on until you have numbered every box. ‘How to vote’ instructions will be clearly displayed on your ballot paper. Don’t worry if you make a mistake — just ask for another ballot paper.
Your vote will help shape Australia.

From local outlook to global potential Throughout the country, people like Craig Buchanan have been so confident of the quality and versatility of Transportable Shade Sheds and the multitude of business opportunities available; that they have joined the Saver6.com network and become regional resellers of the products. Craig bought his first shade shed from the company over 15 years ago when he was looking for a chemical shed to service his 4,000 acre family farm. Around 10 years ago, he purchased a farm in Toowoomba which produces hay for the equine industry. With family members heavily into equine activities he was looking for portable stables and Transportable Shade Sheds had just the product. With an eventual view to take a step back from intensive farm work and create a less ‘weather reliant’ income stream, Craig decided to become a Saver6.com member. Having been a satisfied customer at Transportable Shade Sheds, he was fully aware of the benefits of the product range for so many years; it was an easy decision to choose the Transportable Shade Sheds reseller package, and late last year Craig established ‘Cover Up Toowoomba’. “The sheds are a great Australian made product that offer a lot of potential uses,” said Craig. “Given our agricultural industry base, we have had a lot of interest in transportable stables that I can pre-fab in my workshop – Shade Sheds lend themselves very well to being adapted to many stable/feed/tack room scenarios. I also see a big market in motor home and caravan covers which we hope to tap into.” With the additional online support of the Saver6.com cloud based mentoring and marketing platform, Craig has been able to concentrate on the customer service and delivery side of his business. With a heavy online and social media presence constantly maintained, Craig has been busy with numerous enquiries and has delivered over 150 quotes which have already translated into solid sales. Another advantage of the collaboration with Saver6.com is that resellers can go from local outlooks to accessing global potential – with the opportunities for expansion endless. Global Business Manager of Transportable Shade Sheds, Tyler Maclaren explains. “We want our resellers to think big and access opportunities not only locally but also globally for the products. With the support of Saver6.com, resellers have access to online marketing and mentorship that provides a globally accessed framework to inspire and motivate them to gain further business opportunities and achieve their best sales potential.” Craig is hoping to get to the point where his Saver6 small business allows him to let his farm work become more of a hobby interest, as well as having an income stream that fits around his lifestyle goals. Interest has been high for the original ‘no rust bend’ shade sheds. With all products 100% Australian made and owned, the structures are fully transportable with a ten year manufacturer warranty, galvanised steel framing and Colorbond roofing. Because of their adjustable nature, the structures can be erected in hard to reach places and unlevel pads. So if you know someone looking for Transportable Shade Shed, whether they’re from Toowoomba, Tasmania or Tennessee, get them to contact Craig on 0427 937 833 Search ‘Cover Up Toowoomba’ on Facebook or visit www.coveruptoowoomba.com.au. If you would like to find out more about opportunities in your area then contact Transportable Shade Sheds on 1300 667 433 or Saver6.com on 07 5405 3620.

Your lawyers for life
By Sonia Clark Tracy King and her team have just completed the finishing touches on the new branding and signage for her legal firm, which will now be called Beerwah Law. The new name and bold new colouring follows on from changes earlier this year to the firm. With changes in the business structure from a sole practitioner to a company, came the opportunity to also revise the name, and move towards the new corporate colours of red and white. The name Beerwah Law was chosen so that new clients could easily find a local solicitor, however the motto ‘Your lawyers for life’ has remained the same since 2012. “The motto really encapsulates what the firm is about,” explains Tracy. “As a general practice, we look after people throughout their whole lives. We commonly act for multiple generations in a family and it is a privilege to do so.” The firm has been established in Beerwah for over 30 years. Originally it was named Patrick Ebert and Co Solicitors then Ebert and Williams, Noel Williams Solicitor and King Tobin Lawyers. Now it is Beerwah Law. Tracy has been working in Beerwah at the firm since 2003 and has been practicing law since being admitted in 1993. Her years of experience include working for small, medium and large firms in Brisbane as well as fulfilling her long held ambition of becoming a Barrister in private practice. Beerwah Law is determined to continue to offer a full service practice in order to allow clients to have as many of their legal services as possible covered by their local solicitor. To find out more about the legal services offered, contact the office on 5494 6566.

Division 1 Councillor Sunshine Coast Council New term begins
One of the first tasks at the start of the new term of council is to appoint the councillors to various portfolio duties. I was very pleased to retain responsibility for transport which is one of our key issues here in Division One. Please be assured that council is doing all it can to make it easier and more cost effective for our residents and visitors to move around the Coast. As well as the hard work of council, we need State and Federal Government help to finance our big ticket items, and we will continue to advocate for more attention and funding for our key transport infrastructure needs. I’m looking forward to working with the community as we continue to pursue our transport goals. My portfolio duties in this term also include the arts and heritage which I know are of particular importance to residents of Division One. Both areas are also of huge interest to me and it will be rewarding to work with the various groups, committees and individuals who love the arts and heritage of our region.
Grants funding success I’m very pleased to announce that several Division One groups and projects have received funding in the latest round of Major Community Grants endorsed by council at our May meeting. Among them are The Sanctuary of Embracing Difference which has received a $4000.00 grant to support a one-day conference aimed at bringing together Aboriginal and migrant women through sharing stories and inspiring leadership amongst women. The 2016 Celebrate Beerwah event which will bring together the Beerwah and wider hinterland community in mid-October received $7,500.00. This event will offer broad cultural and social benefits and aims to attract around 9000 people.

Anzac Nurses: front and centre; top of mind
With Anzac Day and Mother’s Day behind us for another year, I think it is important to reflect upon the role women played in theatres of war and ensure ‘We Will Remember Them’ along with our other war heroes. The image of hundreds of brave men charging the barren shores of Gallipoli is permanently etched in our nation’s memory and is rightly commemorated every year on April 25. What many of us do not picture is an Australian nurse tending to the bleeding and battered on the decks and in confined wards of a hospital ship. At a candlelight vigil held in Anzac Square on April 22 in Brisbane last month, I heard chilling tales of what the Australian Army Nursing Service endured, and I quote from a speech given by Julie Finucane OAM RFD about the Gallipoli landing. ‘The wounded started to come on board from 9am. By nightfall there were 557 on board the Gascon. Sister Ella Tucker stayed with that ship for the next 9 months as it ferried over 8000 wounded and sick soldiers between the Gallipoli Peninsula and the hospitals on Imbros, Lemnos, Salonika, Alexandra, Malta and England.’ Sister Muriel Wakeford said: ‘We could see the wounded men lying in gullies and hoped stretcher bearers would get to them before they bled to death. By midday Gallipoli was an inferno.’ Ms Finucane went on to say that during the battle of Brooksiende in Belgium, October 1917, 3000 patients passed through No 3 Australia Casualty Clearing Station in a one hour period. With limited resources, overwhelming casualties and a desperate desire to save their sons, brothers, fathers and uncles - nurses faced a horror all of their own. The words ‘Beyond all Praise’ are etched on the walls of the Australian Service Nurses National Memorial in Canberra and for me will remain front and centre and top of mind with the words ‘Lest we Forget’.

For thousands of years, humans have relied on plants – for food, medicine, adornment, clothing, shelter, tools and even for aesthetic uses. The Aboriginal people of Australia have long known the value of this country’s unique and diverse flora, historically making tonics from plants such as Flax Lily roots to maintain their health, and using leaves, saps, roots and even bark to treat common ailments. Many local plants contain anti-bacterial or anti-inflammatory compounds. Native Hibiscus leaves cool fevers, the bark treats dysentery, and the flowers treat ear infections. Tea-tree oil treats wounds and fungal infections, and a tea made from the leaves, treats throat infections. The leaves of the Tape Vine can treat fever or diarrhoea. The heated leaves of the Peanut Tree (pictured) provide pain relief from insect bites and stings. The juice of Cunjevoi leaves treats sunburn. The fruit of the Billy Goat Plum has the world’s richest source of Vitamin C, purportedly 50 times that of oranges. A syrup made from the nectar of Wallum Banksia treats coughs and colds. Western medicine has also adopted plants for medicinal purposes. Eucalyptus oil is used commercially in mouth wash and cough suppressants. Compounds in the branches of some Acacia species may have tumour-fighting properties, and compounds from the Black Bean show promise for treatment of both cancer and HIV. More than 60 Australian plant species are now thought to be extinct, while another 1180 are threatened. Many of these may have as yet untapped pharmaceutical values. Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Project The Queensland Government is committed to the progressive priority upgrade of the North Coast Line to improve its safety, efficiency and reliability. An important part of this upgrade is the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Project (B2N project). For the project to progress, a detailed business case must be developed to identify the project’s benefits, the problems to be solved and the most appropriate way to achieve the desired outcomes. This will enable government to make an informed investment decision about the project.
Get involved The B2N Project team is seeking community input on changes to the following components of the project: • elimination of the Barrs Road level crossing near Glasshouse Mountains • elimination of the Caloundra Street level crossing in Landsborough • expansion of the Park ‘n’ Ride facilities in Landsborough The B2N Project team will hold a series community information sessions in Landsborough and Glasshouse Mountains. The information sessions will provide an opportunity for community members and stakeholders to discuss the project, ask questions and provide feedback.

Under 8s week celebrations Under 8’s week is celebrated every year in Queensland and this year is no different, except that it is the 60th anniversary.
Landsborough - fun to come
Contributed by Kylie Merola The excitement is building as Landsborough State School prepares to celebrate Under 8s Week. Each year, the school opens its gates, inviting children aged eight and under to come and revel in their youth through a wide range of fun-filled activities. Parents, grandparents and carers are also invited to join in. This year's celebrations will take place on Wednesday, June 15 from 9.00am until 10.40am. Activities will include a jumping castle, animal farm, face painting, story time, biscuit icing, art and crafts, iPods, iPads, games and so much more! All children aged eight and under, including those from local day care centres, kindergartens and playgroups, are most welcome to join in the fun. Come along and enjoy a delightful morning and add some colour to your day! The event is free to attend, however the school would appreciate RSVP's so they have an indication of numbers prior to the day. Please contact Landsborough State School on 5436 2777.
Beerburrum - a world of laughter
On Thursday, May 26 the grounds of Beerburrum State School were transformed into a hive of activity, a world of laughter, and an amazing construction sight. Under 8’s day was celebrated and shared with our Preps, Year 1’s, Year 2’s and some under eights from our community, as well as their families. Some of the activities the children (and some enthusiastic parents) enjoyed were rock painting, macaroni threading, bubble painting, and play dough just to name a few. It was a great morning and so good to see such a large number of parents and community members having so much fun! A huge thanks to all the lower school teachers, teacher aides and student teachers for the massive effort that went into making Under 8’s morning a success. Abigail creating a beautiful pasta neaklace
Peachester - sharing the fun with siblings
Last Tuesday, Peachester State School students participated in two events with both the youngest and oldest members of our community. The school hosted its annual Under 8’s Morning. This day is always a great opportunity for many younger siblings and children from the Peachester Playgroup to come along and integrate with all the students at the school. Our senior students and teachers did a great job of manning the craft stations and helping the little ones with gluing, buttering fairy-bread, and painting. The Prep 1 and 2 students did a great job of playing together with the little ones in the sand-pit, with Lego blocks and building blocks and having their faces painted. After this, the entire school visited the QCWA Peachester International Day at the Peachester Hall to view the wonderful displays about Greenland. The students contributed projects and colouring-in entries about Greenland to this annual competition run by QCWA and were keen to see their entries on display. Bianca showing her little sister Chloe how much fun school is www.gcnews.com.au
Mooloolah - brings the community together
As usual Mooloolah State School does an awesome celebration that involves many community organisations such as the local C&K Kindy, storytellers from Caloundra Library and Mooloolah Playgroup, families and children. The day started with a parade to open the event in the hall. All families and children were welcomed to the celebrations with a performance from the school band and choir and a fabulous dance from the school Spanish Dancing team. The day was filled with wonderful events and activities for the children to enjoy. They included painting, playdough, collage, dancing, face painting, relays, construction and a whole lot more. The children and students were treated to a special visit from the local fire brigade bringing their truck in and letting the children use the fire hose. We were also lucky to have a visit from our local police woman, Susan. Celebrations came to an end with a yummy sausage sizzle, which all the parents and children could enjoy after their busy morning of running, building, playing, etc. So Mooloolah State School would like to thank the local groups that participated and the families that came to celebrate our young learners.

Re: Reed Street Intersection again
Well it seems I opened a can of worms with my initial letter concerning the kerb and guttering blunders at this intersection. I was not blaming Andrew Powell in any way as he isn’t even part of this Government that gave the contract to Roadtek. My issue was with Mr Powell’s seemingly lame and insulting response (we didn’t get one from the actual Minister presumably because he doesn’t live here). I took this matter up with directly with Mr Powell and got a personal apology for his inference that residents could possibly believe his and Roadek’s statement that it didn’t know B doubles used this intersection! His apology reads in part 'I assumed (my mistake) that the engineers in TMR who designed the new configuration had done their homework on this intersection but clearly their modelling does not match reality'. He is also frustrated at the blunders and I
would like to thank him for his reply to me and his tireless work in getting the traffic signals installed. Paul Simpson Glass House Mountains
No flashing lights for Peachester
On the back of an announcement on 23 May that 100 additional schools are set to receive flashing school zone signs across Queensland, the Peachester community are asking why they weren’t included? I have been campaigning on behalf of Peachester residents who desperately want to see flashing school zone lights installed at their school. The Peachester State School is located on a busy tourist and truck traffic route and members of the school community have repeatedly asked for flashing lights to remind drivers a school zone is approaching. To say I am disappointed that 100 schools in Queensland will have the lights installed but Peachester has missed out is an understatement. With the support of the Peachester P&C I sponsored a petition in August 2015 calling on the government to make Peachester a priority and ensure they were on the list for the next round of light installation. Yet again we have been let down by this government and even when I sponsored a petition in 2015 and gathered just over 600 signatures, they have still knocked us back. In a town like Peachester, 600 signatures is a lot and really does demonstrate how important these lights are to the community. They want the assurance that their kids will be safe, and really, who can blame them. I made a very clear commitment to the Peachester community that I will continue to fight for these flashing lights and I will continue to advocate on their behalf until we see them installed. What was missing from the 2016 Federal Budget? The Federal Budget for the next year has been dominating headlines, with everybody from political pundits to first home buyers making their opinions heard on this massive driver of the future of Australia. However, while the budget has certainly been a diverse document covering all manner of factors from tax to infrastructure, there appears to have been one thing missing from the documentation: Can you guess what it is? Do you know how the Federal budget is going to affect your mortgage?Do you know how the Federal budget is going to affect your mortgage? The Ghost of Gearing Past A little while ago, there was a great 22

ruckus kicked up about the state of negative gearing for investors. Negative gearing, for those who are unaware, is the state in which a property investment ends up costing more in mortgage repayments than you receive from rents. Why would anyone do this, you may ask. Negative gearing affords investors the opportunity to write off these losses when it comes to tax time, enabling people to take full advantage of the low interest rates with a far lower level of risk to their finances. While the Treasurer Scott Morrison explicitly said that negative gearing would not be touched in the new federal budget, there was still some uncertainty as to whether an alternative would be offered instead. After all, housing affordability has been a hot button
topic for every political party lately. However, the new budget has not made mention of negative gearing, capital gains or any kind of adjustments to tax in investment housing at all. An indirect effect You may find that you are in a far lower tax bracket. However, it appears that the budget may be affecting how much you can afford to spend on real estate on a more oblique angle. There has been an increase to the threshold at which people pay the 32.5 per cent income tax rate. Rather than those earning about $80,000 paying this proportion, it has shifted to $87,000. You may find that you are in a far lower tax bracket as a result, allowing you to sink that capital
into your savings or paying off your home loan sooner. The budget is an overarching process, affecting nearly every aspect of Australian industry. If you want to make sure you are making the most of your investment capital, make sure you get the right loan with the mortgage broking experts at Smartline. To us, your budget is just as important as the federal one!

Living - Music Music Today
with Dr Michael Whiticker
Recording your music For these next few columns I’m going to assume you are a musician who’d like to record and market your music, as the two go hand in hand. That assumes of course that you want to share your music with others, and sometimes that isn’t the reason you’re recording. I’ll give you an example. Last week I was attending a weekend market in Yandina and found myself surrounded by the most extraordinary noises. There was a pipe and drum band competition underway and each of the bands was warming up in various combinations on the ovals around us. I found the experience thrilling and immediately wanted to record it in a multitrack format, so in playback I could gain a sense of the wonderful cacophony I was experiencing. Needless to say I intended the recording for personal use only. Most musicians I work with are recording their music to promote what they do as artists. A CD album of your songs remains the best way to get yourself known and no amount of live shows will go as far as an album to reach a wide audience. That said, once you have your album it is through your live shows that you will market it. People sometimes wonder if simply having songs available online is enough today, but unless you have achieved celebrity status by some other means, it is the hard slog of live performances that will sell them. An audience who has seen you perform and liked what they have heard is more likely to buy your album there and then, rather than look for you later that night online. But let’s go back a step and consider that you might have written only two or three songs and you want to record them for an album. What might you do? A group of five songwriters associated with the band Rough Red have found a good solution in that they generally consider an album as a shared project that contains songs written by each of them. So they have found a means of including their most current material (it is easier to write two songs than 12!) and they increase their likelihood of being heard as each of them brings their own audience to hear each other’s songs. It’s a win-win! If this idea strikes a chord with you why not find yourself some like-minded songwriters and start talking! (Hint: open mic and song writing sessions are a good place to start!) Do have a creative month.
Michael has a recording studio in Peachester and runs the Glasshouse Muso’s open mic sessions. If you would like to find out more contact him on 0419 026 895 or E: mwhitick@bigpond.net.au
Georgia Fall return to Beerwah Hotel By Sonia Clark
Recently nominated for New Australian Artist of the Year at the Country Music Channel (CMC) 2016 awards, Georgia Fall are set return to Beerwah Hotel on Saturday, June 11 headlining the monthly Beerwah’s Got Country night. Back by popular demand, this will be the fourth appearance of the band at this crowd friendly event. The long running monthly country music night has been a popular drawcard for both locals and visitors to Beerwah Hotel. Regular crowds of between 150-250 live music fans enjoy the high calibre of country music inspired talent. The show will showcase the band’s new line up, and members Mellissa Baker, Jason McGregor and Paul Bain are eager to reconnect with local audiences after recently moving back to Queensland. “We’ve been looking forward to and planning this one for a while. Getting back to our Queensland fans has been a priority. We’ve got a killer new show, new line up and fans can expect to see more of us!” said guitarist and vocalist Paul. With a diverse range of musical influences, the band have a modernistic take on traditional country roots, and their fresh engaging sound incorporates a toe tapping blend of sultry grooves, solid harmonies and memorable hooks. Supported by special guest Will Day; the show commences 8.00pm, with free entry and free courtesy bus (bookings 0448 123 700). Maleny Film screens Brooklyn Ireland is a country synonymous with migration and in the 1950s many Irish people immigrated to the United States looking for employment opportunities and a better life. With Nick Hornby’s adaptation of Colm Toibin’s novel and John Crowley’s direction, Brooklyn the film, doesn’t just look back wistfully at the past, but transcends the period to today’s immigrants. Multi-award winning Saoirse Ronan plays Eilis Lacey who escapes the hopelessness of Ireland by immigrating to Brooklyn. She stays at an Irish boarding house with well-meaning matron (Julie Walters) where she finds work and begins to study book-keeping. Despite the kindness of Father Flood (Jim Broadbent) and new friend Tony (Emory Cohen) homesickness pulls at her heartstrings. With the death of her beloved sister, Eilis returns home to comfort her mother and finds herself caught between her comfortable, traditional upbringing and the land of opportunity. On Saturday, June 4, there will be a Matinee (doors open at 2.30pm) and an evening showing at 7.15pm with dinner from 6.00pm catered by Spaghetti Junction at the Maleny Community Centre 23, Maple Street. The program includes a German animation film from the Gympie Heart of Gold Festival called Dustin. Members of MFS may purchase tickets online or via the Maleny Information Centre. Non-members may purchase tickets at the door. Admission is $13.00 (members $8.00). Check the website www.malenyfilmsociety.info

In the Garden
Grand Champions in sunflower competition Gardening on The Edge Glasshouse Christian College’s Agricultural Science subject only began in 2014 but since then the students have won a slew of prizes. In their first year GCC students won first, second and third prizes in their year level for the heaviest sunflower head. In 2015 students took out second and third places, and now they have taken out the Grand Champion prize for the heaviest sunflower head in the 2016 competition. The competition is run by the University of Queensland at their Gatton campus and this year more than 200 high school students participated. GCC students used their knowledge of plant anatomy, physiology and nutrition to determine the most successful fertiliser and maintenance plan. After 12 weeks of scrupulous care and attention, the students boarded the bus and travelled from Beerwah to Gatton with their giant sunflowers just squeezing in. GCC’s winning sunflower head weighed 2.023 kilograms and was an unexpected win for the team of students and their teacher, Mrs Jade King. “We didn’t think the sunflowers had grown as well as previous years and the longer heat time and extra watering made the nurturing regime more challenging this year,” she said. Mrs King said the most important factor was keeping the water up to the plants. “We set up a watering system this year to reduce some of the maintenance and we tied them securely so they wouldn’t succumb to the strong winds,” she said.
The Maleny Garden Club Inc. presents Gardening On The Edge 2016 on Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12 at the Maleny Showgrounds from 9.00am to 4.00pm. Garden Market is free entry – come and browse plant stalls, talk to the experts, camellia flower display, teas and lunches, plus the Garden Club’s produce stall. Six country gardens will also be open to the public – each quite different and unique. Come and spend a soothing day and be inspired by our delightful gardens. Tickets: all six gardens – $20.00; three gardens – $12.00; one garden – $5.00. Tickets are available at Maleny Showgrounds (and at the gardens).

Callicarpa pedunculata This fast growing, semi-deciduous shrub grows to a height of 2-4m. Left untouched it becomes rather scraggly but responds well to pruning and requires regular pruning for a bushy shape. It will grow in full sun or dappled shade and prefers a well drained loamy soil. It has attractive, oval, velvety leaves which can grow to 25cm. The clusters of white, pink and mauve flowers, which appear mostly from November through to March, are followed by clusters of small pink to purple berries up to 4mm in diameter which have a distinctive metallic lustre. The berries last well into the winter or dry season and are an important survival food for birds and other animals, though it seems they will only eat them as a last resort. In traditional medicine it is considered to have analgesic, antiphlogistic and haemostatic properties. Velvet leaf is an ideal plant to use as part of a mixed planting offering variety of texture shape and colour.

This phrase is one of my favourite scriptures found in Romans 8. I’m always fascinated to hear people ask “Why would a loving God allow all this suffering to happen?” My come-back question to this statement: Why did God create us human beings in the first place? We were created for relationship, and God loves it when we are in right relationship with Him. I have five children and when they are in right relationship with us (their parents) there are blessings or advantages that flow on from their obedience, manners, and their contribution around the home. It’s only when the relationship is out of right alignment (through disobedience) that they begin to think the whole world is against them, even their own mum and dad. Our heavenly Father wants to cover us, bless us and love us, but if we have shut ourselves out through disobedience or we allow issues to cloud our better judgment then we rob ourselves of the blessingsGCNEWS that come being in relationship Add septfrom 12 2013.ai 1 10/02/2015 5:26:35 PM with Him.

Over time we develop an attitude that separates us from God and we form our own opinion that God doesn’t like us. But remember God is slow to anger and quick to forgive, like a loving parent who wants the best for His children, and He calls us His Children. Don’t run from God, run to Him, allow Him to redeem and restore your spiritual relationship with Him. God is not mad at you, in fact He is mad about you! He promises us a future and a hope. Think on this: When you’re walking in the rain under an umbrella you’re somewhat dry, the moment you step out from the umbrella you are drenched. Stay under the umbrella (or Gods covering, +grace) and you will find blessing. Being close to God doesn’t mean we live without challenges or trials. What it does mean is you have someone greater walking with you, guiding you through the storm. God Is For You Not Against You. Read John 3:16, 1Corinthians 13 to see His measure of Love. Glasshouse Country Bowls Club
Contributed by David Hayes Monday, May 23 - Open Two Bowl Triples. There were 5 rinks of bowls played with teams from Glasshouse as well as Donnybrook, Woodford and Palmwoods. Two games of 15 ends were played. This month’s game was sponsored by one of our wonderful bowls club green sponsors ‘Brett the Painter’. The winners of the day on count back were Gordon Dyer, Clive Sinton and Brian Saunders with two wins + 11 margin. R/ up were Eileen Pearce, Lloyd Walker and Judy Walker also with two wins + 11 margin. Lucky draw for the day went to Ann White, Jan Lawson and Millie Freshwater. Wednesday, May 25 - social Bowls. Nina Connor, Jack Timm and John McSwain def Noelle Dean, Jenny Hobson and Mike Kernick 18-12. Peter Connor, Dave Clarke and Di Hume def Chris Dougan, Graham Condie and Ron Wilson 32-9. Marilyn Boulton and Dennis Hume def Joy Sauer and Doug Sweedman 32-24. In the final of the Ladies 2016 Club Championship Pairs, Wendy Platt and Chris Freshwater def Viv James and Joy Reason 29-11. Well done ladies! Thursday, May 26 - winners of the day were the triples team of Clive Sinton, Doug Sweedman and Bill James with two wins + 28 margin. R/up were Mike Kernick and Di Garland with + 13 in the second game. Saturday, May 28 - 10.00am. Men’s Fours Final. What a game of bowls! In an extra end thriller the team of David Hayes, Rodd Platt, Jimmy Tatum and Kevin Beasley def Clive Sinton, Rob Scullion, Mac Townson and Graham Richardson 21-20. Well done to both teams. Sunday, June 5 - our club is hosting the annual Police Bowls Day, the Iona Challenge. This day is sponsored by Terry and Liz Little and there will be up to $400.00 in prizes. I encourage all members to come along for a game. The cost is only $12.00 and includes hot nibbles after the game. There is no social or club championships bowls played on the weekends in June, so hopefully we get a great turn out of bowlers for this day. Put your name on the sheet in our bowls shed office. Be at our club by 12.30pm for a 1.00pm start. Hope to see you all there. Saturday, July 2 - Men Pennants kicks off. There is an ‘unavailability sheet’ in our bowls shed office. Please go cross off any dates you may be unavailable throughout the pennant season so selectors know for when they select teams each week. Also don’t forget bowls coaching every Sunday morning from 10.30am to 12.00noon. Even if you want to come down just for fun and have a roll. Both children and adults of all abilities are welcome!

Contributed by Pauline Fraley In spite of Witta Wagtails’ loss to Eumundi Miss Gems, the competition and tennis between the two teams was very enjoyable. Thank you to Christine, Claire, Janet and Sonia. The Whistlers played at Caloundra, against the Hot Chillies. It was long day, lots of deuces and rallies but we managed to play well and brought the win home. Score was 38-28 games, 5-3 sets. Team was Aki Lepper, Donna Kuskopf, Liz Mellish and Maree Hooley. The Wildcats were at home to Mooloolaba Amigos. Pauline, Annie, Stacey and Libby came out firing and walked away with the win. Score was 47-27; 7-1 sets. Great win team! Social tennis: Monday 8.00am and Saturday 1.00pm all welcome. Court bookings: 0437 295 501 or www.wittatennis.com.au. www.gcnews.com.au

Coochin House is back on the leader board at Peachester State School after winning the overall points score for the 2016 Athletics Sports Day at Skippy Park. The final points were Coochin 489 points and Stanley 405 points. The day got off to a great start for Coochin when they out-cried Stanley House in the war-cry and as the day progressed House captain Shayla J (who’s dad Jessie was also Coochin House Captain) and Ryan E-H led their team to victory. The Prep, Year 1 and 2 classes honed their skills for future sports days in fun rotations of, shot-put, sack-races, chasing games and team ball-games. The highlight of the day was the sprint races including all years and the parents and students relay races. It was great to see all children at the school participating so eagerly and having so much fun on a very warm day. Thanks to Jessica Braun’s tuckshop team, the kids cooled downed and refuelled with plenty of ice-blocks and

Fee for service Barry Farmer got into his Toyota 4 by 4 and drove to the neighbouring ranch and knocked at the door. A young boy, Neil, aged about nine, opened the door. “Is yer dad home?” Barry demanded. “No, sir, he ain't,” Neil replied. “He went into town.” “Well, then,” inquired Barry, “is yer mum here?” “No, sir, she ain't here neither. She went into town with Dad.” “How about your brother? Is he here?” “He went with mum and dad,” explained Neil patiently. Barry Farmer stood there for a few seconds, shifting from one foot to the other and muttering to himself.
“Is there anything I can do fer ya?” Neil asked politely. “I know where all the tools are, if you want to borrow one. Or maybe I could take a message fer dad.” “Well, it's difficult,” answered Barry uncomfortably, “I really wanted to talk to yer dad. It's about your brother getting my daughter pregnant.” Neil considered for a moment, “you would have to talk to Pa about that,” he finally conceded. “If it helps you any, I know that Pa charges $600.00 for the bull and $60.00 for the hog, but I really don't know how much he gets fer Howard.” Submitted by Kim, Reesville

LIBRA September 23 – October 22 A wise sense of self-reflection pays off for you this month. This is especially if you are trying to break free from the past and look to a different future. The planets do involve you with travel or overseas interests and perhaps an in-law may be involved in your affairs or your partner’s relatives. Avoid being too concerned. SCORPIO October 23 – November 22 You might find that this is the beginning of say two months to discuss your estate and tax matters with your legal eagle or accountant. It may be necessary to set up a trust fund or to look carefully at how you want to handle jointly held funds. The New Moon, being in Gemini, brings urgency to a recent financial affair. SAGITTARIUS November 23 – December 22 This is a restless week when you may find that it is hard for you and others to get on the same wavelength. Make sure that in various meetings things do not get too serious. This is a time to listen to advice and cooperate with others. Avoid going under with pressure and also avoid using strong arm tactics now. CAPRICORN December 23 – January 19 With the Gemini New Moon your emotions are searching for the proper health treatments and exercise routines that you need. So this is the week that tells you to create a fresh new start in these areas. Information from others is your best bet. You have the opportunity to face all schedules and structure them properly.
AQUARIUS January 20 – February 19 You have a strong emphasis under the Gemini New Moon sign this weekend as your creative talents will be on a high. If you are at work, you should enjoy strong executive ability. If you are at home, the accent lies with making vacation plans with your loved ones, and not forgetting your pet projects. Fiscal matters clear. PISCES February 20 – March 20 The emphasis this week, with the New Moon being in Gemini, sees you looking at your emails and correspondence and deciding to eliminate many files. Your sign joins up with three other signs such as Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius, in a mutable cross formation. Use all psychic skills to clear your problems by the end of July. ARIES March 21 – April 20 You should see a good week of correspondence and mental pursuits related to which short journeys will suit you the best. The planets of love, namely Venus and Mars, play big roles in your life now. This weekend coming sees the New Moon juggling important overseas information and the need to make decisions. TAURUS April 21 – May 21 The best success for your start up in June will be trying to increase your income and that comes perhaps by seeking good financial advice. At this weekend, the Gemini New Moon influences your financial accounts and material possessions. Make sure that you are not over indulgent which would put you in a hole!

Week beginning 01/06/2016 GEMINI May 22 – June 21 This New Moon that covers both Saturday and Sunday in your sign, puts the spotlight on you. It could be a time for an important decision regarding a relationship. Only consider one that helps your home or family. Your social life has the potential to exceed expectations and generate great excitement. CANCER June 22 – July 22 You may find that this week will put you in contact with some people who are disabled or invalids needing your attention. You achieve great success with them by an investigation and using your intuitive powers. Make sure you have your private moments as you need to escape from all the stress. Don’t overbalance! LEO July 23 – August 22 This New Moon weekend sees the sign of Gemini bringing you into its chatty, social, diversifying influence to bear on your social life. Always at this time it multiplies your connections to other people. So as the flood gates are opened, you had better be selective if you need to make a commitment now. VIRGO August 23 – September 22 The week sees you balancing your business and career undertakings but also pointing to your home and the need for your private place. Make sure there is a sense of sanctuary, otherwise excessive over reaction can put you in a big hole. There is a need, therefore, for a business goal with moderate intentions.
