JANUARY 20 2016
Hi Everyone
W
elcome to the first edition of Glasshouse Country & Maleny News for 2016, and I hope you all had a great festive season and are looking forward to a great year ahead. We had what I think is called a ‘staycation’ we didn’t leave the Sunshine Coast, well actually we barely drove more than about 10km from home, and it was fantastic! We have many great local spots for picnics, walking and relaxing, so it was nice to make the most of them. Now we are back at work and already our focus is on the next public holiday – Australia Day, and we have included plenty of things that are happening locally so there should be something for everyone to enjoy. From the Maleny Film Society’s Australian Film Festival (which is on the week-end leading up to Australia Day), to a Pineapple Ironman event at Glasshouse Sports Club, The Sports and Recreation Expo at Maleny, and of course Dunny Racing at Aussie World - ahh who would want to live in any other part of the world? Happy Australia Day – hope you enjoy yourself no matter how you choose to celebrate. Regards,

Countdown to Council elections
Fax 5439 0288 PO BOX 649, BEERWAH QLD 4519 1/13 TURNER ST, BEERWAH QLD
You may not be aware, but in March the Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) will be holding elections for every local government in Queensland … including our own Sunshine Coast Council. Now held every four years, they are legislatively earmarked for the last Saturday in March. However this year – due to Easter – ECQ have advised that the election will be held on March 19. Although a Notice of Election hasn’t been made by ECQ, after which nominations for Divisional Councillor and Mayoral candidates will be formally accepted, there are a number of people who have already put their hands up to run locally. In Division 1, Rick Baberowski (the current Councillor) is recontesting, and Rod Jones has come forward as a candidate. In Division 5, Jenny McKay is recontesting and as yet, no others have announced they are standing. In the race for Sunshine Coast Mayor, Mark Jamieson, as the current Mayor, is recontesting. Also throwing his hat into the mayoral ring is Tony Gibson. Tony is the Greens candidate – which is the first time that a part-political candidate has stood for the position of Mayor on the coast. Once the official call for the election has been made, the Sunshine Coast Council then goes into caretaker mode. After the election – depending on how close the results are, it may be weeks before

successful Councillor and Mayoral candidates are announced. In the lead up to the elections, GC&M News will bring you information on each of the candidates and what they can offer to locals and local communities. Remember – voting is not only compulsory, but a fundamental platform in our democratic system of government. You will be able to vote on the day, by pre-polling or by postal vote.
Are you planning to run for Council? If so, contact us at our office on 5438 7445 or by emailing gbrown@gcnews.com.au so we can make sure you have the chance to be heard through our pages.

Extra maintenance keeps Division 1 looking good

Have you noticed how much tidier our major roads are looking lately?
Mike Weaver 0438 671 080
That’s because almost 280,000 square metres of Sunshine Coast roadsides will receive more frequent mowing and landscaping following an agreement between Sunshine Coast Council and Transport and Main Roads. Council will maintain the landscapes in medians and verges along state-owned roads with funding from Transport and Main Roads in an extended Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Councillor Rick Baberowski said Division 1 is fortunate to have 11 new sites that will receive this extra attention, including around the Mooloolah turnoff, Landsborough turnoff, Beerwah turnoff, Glass House turnoff, and Beerburrum turnoff, which will provide a higher standard of presentation. “As the southern gateway to the Sunshine Coast region, I know how strongly the Division 1 community feels about maintaining our major roads and entry points to a high standard,” Cr Baberowski said. “Although there are still areas with weeds and long stretches of state roads outside of the agreement, the additional maintenance will allow council crews to help ensure the landscaping around major interchange points, entry statements, town centres and precincts and major road networks, is at its best.

Local community performance projects for students
By Sonia Clark
Qualified drama teacher Teula De`Gars, who has just completed her Masters in Social Change and Development, is about to launch her community cultural development programs in our local area. Aimed at high school students, her main project is entitled ‘Voices’ - a performance project. It consists of a weekly term based program which seeks to engage local young people through the creative expressions of drama, music, performance, dance and movement. Open to all high school students, the project will commence on Thursday, February 4 and will be based at the Landsborough CWA Hall (next to Morris House) with weekly sessions from 6.30pm - 8.00pm. ‘Voices’ offers opportunities for young people to feel a sense of community belonging and the chance to be heard within a nurturing setting. The program seeks to install resilience and give them the confidence to make positive changes for the future. Teula says it will also serve to raise awareness in the wider community about current social issues for young people. “Participants come together to share stories and collaboratively work with an arts worker to create a piece of professional theatre based on the shared concerns of modern youth,” she said. “The program addresses the issues of youth empowerment, youth engagement and community cohesion - all the while educating the community and seeking a kind of mutually shared understanding.”
The program will run over 10 week blocks throughout the year. Each block will be working towards a performance outcome at the completion of the term. With a view to build the capacity of the young people involved, Teula will facilitate with the participants, four performances throughout the year. The aim will be to tie in these performances with events such as Youth Week and Mental Health Week. “Working through the creative field of theatre we explore who we are as individuals and the complex world around us,” she said. Teula has been teaching drama for over nine years throughout the Coast and at regional centres such as Townsville and Kingaroy. Working at the Beerwah Flexi School sparked her passion for community development work and she became inspired to undertake further study to combine her theatre background with community development. Recently moving into the Landsborough area, Teula is passionate about bringing her skills to assist and empower the local community. The idea for the ‘Voices’ program was based on a community asset map that Teula did based on Beerwah and surrounding areas during her Master of Social Change and development degree. Through her business ‘Rehearsal for Real Life’ Teula will also run a children’s theatre program for primary aged school children which will also be offered in 10 week blocks. Featuring drama fun, games, drama skills and performance, this course is suitable for children in Years 3-6 at
primary school. These programs will be held at the Landsborough School of Arts Hall on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4.00pm – 5.30pm and will also feature a performance outcome. For more details contact Teula at Rehearsal for Real Life on 0423 199 005 or check out her Facebook page http;//www.facebook.com/ rehearsalforreallife.

Works will start this week on the Steve Irwin Way and Reed Street intersection at Glass House Mountains, fixing a significant safety hazard.
Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey announced the site for the $2.7 million project would be established on Monday, January 18. “Major works are expected to start following the holiday period in late January 2016, to minimise the impact on holiday traffic,” Mr Bailey said. “The project will deliver a number of safety improvements for motorists and pedestrians, with the installation of traffic signals at the intersection. “Motorists will benefit from increased efficiency and safer turning movements. “A signalised intersection, and a new left turn slip lane from Reed Street onto Steve Irwin Way will help ease congestion, particularly during morning
and afternoon peak times and assist with traffic flow. Mr Bailey said the right-turn lanes on Steve Irwin Way would also be extended to provide new leftturn movements. “These works will also play a vital role to improve safety by separating motorway and local traffic,” he said. “Upgraded signalised pedestrian crossings and road lighting will also improve safety for pedestrians crossing the Steve Irwin Way and Reed Street intersection,” he said. “With about 14,500 vehicles travelling through this intersection daily, providing a safer road network for motorists is a high priority.” RoadTek will be delivering the upgrade on behalf of Transport and Main Roads. For more information about the project, visit www.tmr.qld.gov.au and search for ‘Steve Irwin Way and Reed Street intersection upgrade’.

The big push by utilities across Australia to hit solar households with higher network charges is underpinned by the claim that rooftop solar does little to reduce peak demand. There is increasing evidence that that is not the case. Peak demand has been pushed in some states to the evening, after the sun comes down, but what is often not displayed is what the peak would have looked like without rooftop solar. In short, it would have occurred earlier in the day, and at a much higher peak. This is critical, because networks super-sized their grid in anticipation of big rises in peak demand. The combination of energy efficiency and rooftop solar and declining industrial demand has junked those forecasts. But we’re still paying for the investment. Yet still, the network wants solar households to be hit with higher network fees, another example of where the benefits of rooftop solar are not factored in.

Festival of Australian Film This year the Maleny Film Society will be screening three films as part of the festival Force of Destiny on Friday evening, January 22 at 7.15pm, followed by a 3.00pm matinee show of 'Women He’s Undressed' and 'The Dressmaker' evening show on Saturday, January 23 at 7.15pm at the Maleny Community Centre, 23 Maple Street. The opening night film at this year’s Maleny Festival of Australian Film is Paul Cox’s 'Force of Destiny', a love story starring David Wenham, a sculptor and Shahana Goswami, a marine biologist. Paralleling Cox’s own life it demonstrates the potential of the human spirit for survival. Saturday matinee brings 'Women He’s Undressed' by film maker Gillian Armstrong, exploring the life of three times Oscar winner Australian costume designer Orry Kelly. Darren Gilshenan plays Kelly who narrates his story in this theoretical drama. Staying with the costume theme is Jocelyn Moorhouse’s comedy drama 'The Dressmaker' with quintessential Australian landscapes and accents in this film set in 1950s Australia. Starring Kate Winslet as Tilly, the talented dressmaker whose return home after 20 years is met with suspicion by the locals. Her dressmaking skills are especially appreciated by the local cross-dressing policeman (Hugo Weaving). Introductions from Matthew Toomey (ABC 4QR) and short films from Griffith University students and Black Screen Australia will also be featured. Special thanks to our local sponsors who help make this special event possible. Dinner at 6.00pm is catered by Wild Rocket @ Misty’s on Friday night and Spaghetti Junction

on Saturday night. Festival passes are available online or at the door; individual tickets at the door. Check the website www.malenyfilmsociety. info for details.
Love of film runs deep Matthew Toomey developed a love for cinema after landing a job in a video store as a 17-year-old. In 1998, he started reviewing movies for a community radio station and created a website (The Film Pie) to help share those reviews. For the past 10 years, Matthew has been the film critic on the 612 ABC breakfast program hosted by Spencer Howson (currently Brisbane's highest rated breakfast radio show). He also reviews for regional ABC radio outlets based in Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Rockhampton and Mt Isa. In addition to critiquing movies, Matthew has also had the chance to interview an array of actors and filmmakers including Hugh Jackman, Matt Damon, George Clooney and Kenneth Branagh, and he’ll be visiting Maleny as the AFF’s guest speaker on Friday, January 22. Mathew will be opening the 2016 AFF film festival. Festival passes are available on-line and at the door. Individual tickets available at the Maleny Information Centre and at the door. Singers support firies
Carols at Twilight provided the backdrop for a presentation of much-needed funds to the Maleny and District Rural Fire Brigade (RFB) on Friday, December 18, at a special presentation made at Maleny RSL. Patron of the Maleny Singers and Member for Glasshouse Andrew Powell presented a cheque for $2,500 to the Rural Fire Brigades Nick Grech and Jarrod Ashcrofton on behalf of the Maleny Singers. Margaret Taylor, Musical Director of Maleny Singers said they were thrilled to be able to assist the local volunteer fire service who does so much for our community. It’s a great example of the whole community working together to support each other, she said. Funds raised were from the proceeds from two concerts of Bizet’s opera ‘Carmen’, highlights of which were performed on November 7 and 8 at the Maleny Community Centre.
Andrew Powell, with Rural Fire Brigade Officers Nick Grech and Jarrod Ashcrofton “Carmen was a great success,” said Margaret, “but we could not have achieved this success without the hard work of so many people. “We were very fortunate to have David Gee who came all the way from Armidale, as our conductor and The Maleny Performing Arts Orchestra did a wonderful job playing for the performances,” she said. “Most of all though, it’s the support of the local community that made Carmen so successful.” An additional $1,000 was raised by the Rural Fire Brigade volunteers through raffles and afternoon tea sales, making a total of $3,500 raised to support our unsung heroes.
Community groups share in more than $300,000 Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle is pleased to announce more than $1.25 million in government funding has been injected to the Caloundra Electorate community. Glasshouse County recipients include Glasshouse Christian College, the Landsborough Cricket Club and Suncoast Hinterland BMX Club who have all been granted a share in the funding. The Christian College will receive $300,000 for construction of an undercover sports area, seating area, two sports stores and site works. The Landsborough Cricket Club will receive
$6,969.00 for the purchasing of equipment including a scarifier, pitch cover and cylinder mower. And the Suncoast Hinterland BMX Club will be able to conduct volunteer education workshops and purchase resources with the $7,500.00 they will receive. “Every single cent of this funding will go towards much-needed improvements and I look forward to seeing the final product,” said Mr McArdle. “Congratulations to everyone involved in their successful applications.”

upgraded a main walking trail. Councillor Jenny McKay said this new Butterfly Walk trail snakes through the top of the iconic reserve, from the boardwalk to the toilet block, to provide better access and allow more people to enjoy its natural beauty,” Cr McKay said. “People who visited the reserve during construction commented how natural the stone trail looks. “It looks just like subtropical rainforest track and fits in with the surroundings very well, but is constructed using materials that will last a long time,” she said. The improved trail follows the installation of a new shelter at the reserve earlier last year.

Health Check
Do you ever suffer from muscle cramps? with Landsborough Health & Wellness
Do you workout on a regular basis? Your muscles are supported by fascia. Between tightness in the muscle and tightness in the fascia you can feel out of balance, tense and/or sore. A Bowen treatment is especially useful for athletes who feel sore after a workout. Bowen releases the tension held in the fascia which then releases tension for the muscle, bringing relief, as well as strengthening and revitalising your muscular system ready for the next workout. Su offers Deep Fascial Connectics Bowen Therapy which applies firm pressure to the fascia between the muscle and the bone stretching and releasing toxins that build up in damaged or overworked parts of the body. Fascia is a specific type of connective tissue that forms a three dimensional web surrounding every tissue in the body. Fascia is the body organiser embracing all nerves, bones, arteries, veins and muscles. Good fascial function will create good flow in your muscles, nerves and organs leading to awesome well-being. Su is available at Landsborough Health & Wellness Centre on Thursdays. Call 5314 1231 to book a treatment.

TMD / TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction)
with McCloy Dental TMD is a chronic pain condition that affects the jaw joint, and its associated structures (such as the neck and chewing muscles). It affects more women than men at a rate of 4:1. Sufferers of TMD are more likely than people without pain to have suffered trauma, grind and clench their teeth, suffer from other forms of chronic pain disorder (such as migraine, tension headache, irritable bowel, fibromyalgia), and have non-painful TMJ symptoms such as jaw noise and limitation of mandibular opening. The most common forms of TMJ pain are arthralgia (or pain in the joint itself) and myofascial pain (muscle pain). Pain that is coming from the joint may be related to a disc displacement disorder (from a bad trauma to the head area, or a click or intermittent locking. It can also be related to degenerative, psoriatic or rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune or congenital disorders. Myofascial pain or muscle pain is something that about 70% of the population experiences. It can be localised to the head and neck region or can be more widespread. In general the management of myofascial pain involves stress management, regular exercise, good posture and body mechanics, healthy diet, and adequate restorative sleep.

Why you have Heel Pain Imagine if you had a sore shoulder but kept swimming anyway? Imagine if you had a toothache, but kept eating your apple? Do you think the problem will go away if you keep using what hurts?

Refugee art exhibition at the Upfront Club
Local artist Natty Be is holding a fundraising event for children in detention during her solo art exhibition at the Upfront Club on Thursday, January 21. The exhibition is entitled ‘Rising Tide’, and proceeds from the sale of her paintings and raffles will be donated to the fundraising efforts to provide needed items for children in detention. “Currently there are hundreds of refugee children in detention centres. I may be only one person, but I can bring something positive into the lives of others - by being the change that I wish to see in the world. I have chosen to contribute my energy now to the positive ‘Rising Tide’ of peace and hope,” she said The night kicks off at 6.30pm, featuring the soulful, light-hearted music from the talented Lee Hardisty and Leon Tussie. McHappy Day generosity
Glasshouse Country locals have collectively raised $3,487 as part of this year's McHappy Day which raised a total of $3.6 million across the country, making it the most successful day in Ronald McDonald House Charities history. Funds raised from the day will be used across the range of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) programs including Ronald McDonald House, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and the Ronald McDonald Learning Program, to name a few. While McHappy Day is now over, RMHC needs ongoing support so that it can continue helping families with seriously ill children. To find out more or to donate visit www.rmhc.org.au

2015 Property Market Wrap Up By Ursula Starkovsky, First National Real Estate 2015 was a pretty good year for all matters related to real estate in our area. Properties sold in relative short times if they were priced correctly and all townships enjoyed marginally increased median prices with only Landsborough showing a slight decrease. In all three townships – Glass House, Beerwah and Landsborough – land subdivisions were released and this influenced the number of sales, as builders tend to market their homes as ‘Home and Land Packages’ and this gets picked up as home sales, even though only the land component is sold. This explains the larger number of sales in those communities. The median price is not influenced by this because it is calculated less the very low and the very high price, showing only the middle ranges.

Mooloolah Community Centre, a gem of the hinterland
The Management Committee and dedicated volunteer team behind the Mooloolah Valley Community Centre doesn’t ask for much in return, except that the locals continue supporting the charitable, not-for-profit organisation located at 43 Bray Road, Mooloolah Valley. Now in its seventh year of operation, the centre offers a variety of dedicated initiatives including emergency relief, counselling, Justice of the Peace services, a monthly community barbecue, mini-markets, community garden, room hire and arguably one of the best op-shops on the Sunshine Coast. MVCC secretary Anita Verwayen said more than 50 volunteers dedicate their time to the centre. “Both the management committee and the volunteers are committed to providing programs and services which benefit the local community, living within the 4553 postcode area,” she said. “The value of these volunteers is immeasurable in terms of the hours given to the community at no cost.” One of the big highlights of the year is the annual community Christmas party that attracts up to 250 people and this year's event was held on Friday, December 4. This event is supported by a grant from the Sunshine Coast Council, White’s IGA Mooloolah and local businesses in the Mooloolah area. “Everyone pitches in on barbecue days, with everything from food preparation, setting up the site and cleaning up afterwards, and manning the Op Shop which remains open on the night,” Mrs Verwayen said. “It’s a fun night and the children have a ball.” Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle said he was impressed by the commitment of the Mooloolah Valley Community Association to the centre. “To say the centre is one of the pillars of support to the local community is an understatement,” Mr McArdle said. “I offer my sincere congratulations to the entire team behind this spirited group and call on the local community to back them 100%.” Mrs Verwayen called on people to become members of the association, which is only $5.00 per year for singles or $10.00 a year for families. The money is ploughed back into the community. “The Community Centre can only function successfully if the local community supports its aims, programs and services,” she said.

Fast facts about the great services on offer:
What will 2016 bring?
Some analysts of course predict doom and gloom, others go over the top and predict another bubble … truth is, nobody can predict the market. It will depend on bank’s lending practices, the sentiments in the economy – both global and domestic – and one of the major influences will be job availability in our area. During the past year I have offered some of my listings to the Sydney and Melbourne markets. The comments I received back were great but one question always was “great property, great price but are there any jobs?” This leads me to believe that our prosperity will depend on the job market and I am optimistic that with the major developments on the Coast, the Hinterland will be a beneficiary. Not everybody wants to live on a 200m2 block of land in Kawana.
• Community Garden: Operates Saturdays from 2.00pm to 5.00pm and a cuppa is always available to those who want to come and socialise or do some serious gardening. • Justice of Peace Service: Operates Tuesdays and Thursdays 9.30am to 12.00noon at the centre. • Welfare team: Emergency relief is available for people who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in financial hardship. Assistance is in the form of IGA Vouchers, Telstra and petrol vouchers, clothing and household goods from the Op Shop. • Counselling: Two qualified psychologists visit the centre on Mondays and Fridays between 9.00am and 5.00pm. Community members who are in need of help can access the service via a referral from their local GP, each visit is bulk billed.

Sing for health
Men, have you thought about the health benefits of singing? Singers use diaphragm breathing which has huge advantages for your body’s aerobic system. More oxygenated blood flows through the arteries to allow greater oxygen uptake by your vital organs. Your brain is not the least of those organs and singing helps it by exercising it in remembering words and melodies. Add to that, the psychological and social gains of harmonising with others, and you can see that singing really ought to be part of your fitness program. Here's how you can do it. The Sunshine Statesmen Barbershop Chorus will present a six-week voice training program for men at their Buderim rehearsal rooms. The Wednesday night training will be hosted by the chorus members and led by musical director Brian Martin from Maleny. You will enjoy the barbershop style of singing with its four part harmony and well-known songs. Whether you are tenor, lead, baritone or bass there will be a part suited to your voice. Brian's musical skill and his easy going enjoyment-centred approach will give you lots of fun and many tips and techniques to take away. No previous experience is necessary and you do not need to be able to read music. The course, which is free, begins with an introductory night at 7.00pm on February 10at The Buderim Uniting Church Hall corner Gloucester and King Streets. You Said It Re: Cyclists Harassed (GC&M News December 16 edition)
Your complaint about motorists tooting on the Peachester hill is valid. However, it’s not just cyclists who get the horn blared at them. There are a couple of drivers who have fun behind anything on wheels doing less than 80km and to hell with the speed limit. I suspect the horn is all they got for Christmas. You mentioned flashing lights back and front of cycles. These make cyclists 98% more visible and should be compulsory. Any cyclist who rides up and down the Peachester hill with its ultra narrow winding road and blind corners needs a brain scan. And any cyclist riding that stretch of road who owns flashing lights (never mind the camera) and leaves these at home, is a statistic waiting to happen. Neil Cedarton
Re: Gwen Malcom’s submission ‘You said it’(GC&M News December 22 edition)
It is great to see a fellow Glass House resident passionate about our local natural wonders. There are many different people who enjoy our local area, including bush walkers, mountain bike riders, hikers and campers, as well as those who are 4WD enthusiasts. While it is tempting to take the easy path of ‘Lock everyone out’ it has been proven time and time again not to be very effective. It often rallies many eco vandals to rebel, resulting in being in a worse off position. I personally believe education and smart management is a more sustainable solution. It is important to understand a road legal 4WD, used correctly, cannot cause the damage reflected by the photo presented. The vast majority of the 4WD community are weekend travellers, campers and naturists. The minority of eco vandals out there need to be held accountable. Facebook and other social media outlets are full of various name and shame groups fighting this issue head on. Through education and community support I think all bush lovers can rally together to stamp out needless damage to the tracks. Jamie Hazelden Glass House Mountains

Re: Cyclists harassed
I just want to make a comment about this. My house mate drives and I'm a passenger in the car. We have a camera in the car and may I say cyclists ride out on the road and make it very unsafe for us motorists that use the roads every day. The police should check this out on the Peachester and Bald Knob Roads as most days we have cyclists putting both their own and car driver’s lives in danger. We have to be one metre away from them when we are passing. And we have to look out for bike riders but you all make it so hard for us when you’re riding in our driving lane and wobbling all over the road. Sorry you were harassed by tooting drivers but when bike riders are all over the road it's their only way to warn cyclists, that are breaking the law, that we are approaching. Please take care and ride only in the lane that cyclists need to be in. Julianne Peachester
Scooter ramp or path
As a resident of Glasshouse Views - McKenzie on Peachester Road, Beerwah, I believe that there is a need for a mobility scooter ramp or path. Although senior in age, myself and many other fellow residents are very active. We still live relatively independent lives and frequently go shopping by mobility scooter to Beerwah Village Shopping Centre. The problem is that we cannot safely access the new development area in the east end of the Village ( IGA, Target, Specsavers etc.) as the kerb beyond Bargain Max lacks a ramp or path connecting the two areas, and driving down the kerb presents a safety risk for us. With all the beautification and development in Beerwah and the village, it is likely that this issue could have been overlooked. Help us seniors stay active and adventurous for as long as we are able! Arthur Westwood Glasshouse Views - McKenzie

3 homes to avoid for first time buyers Everybody has tips and tricks about what to look for in a first home, but what about the properties you should absolutely avoid? We’ve put together a short list of homes that you maybe shouldn’t take on as your first. 1. The Budget Buster This is the house that has everything you had on your wish list (plus some stuff you didn’t know you wanted), but it is above your budget. It’s tempting to just sneak across that budget line, but don’t be fooled. This can end up being a catastrophe. You aren’t just budgeting for the house itself: you are budgeting for all the potential problems that may 18

crop up as you move in. Perhaps your fridge suddenly breaks down or the door begins swelling in the rain and needs a revarnish. First homes are not dream homes 99 per cent of the time. Make sure you know what you can afford within the bound of your first home buyer loan and don’t spend over it. 2. The Shiny One Sometimes beauty is only skin deep – sellers can put in a small amount of work to squeeze a lot more money out of you. You might even compromise on some major issues because you like the fresh lick of paint or new curtains so much.
Always make sure you get a building inspection done. They won’t miss the telltale signs of rot or water damage carefully covered up by new skirting or fresh wallpaper. 3. The Last One on the Market You’re tired. It’s been months of looking, and everything has either been too far away from work or too expensive. When you encounter a lack of househunting willpower, just take a break, have a rest and continue when your resolve has returned. Better to wait than to buy the last turkey in the shop.

Rick Baberowski Division 1 Councillor Sunshine Coast Council Australia Day - be part of it!
Australia Day always reminds me to think about what I'm doing to be an active part of our great community of communities (admittedly that's definitely easier when you're a councillor). I like that, as a community, we organise all sorts of pretty relaxed celebratory events right across the Sunshine Coast varying from a thong challenge in Maroochydore to a flag-raising ceremony at Kings Beach, Caloundra. Or, if you fancy a greener hinterland adventure, you can join the Australia Day celebrations in Glasshouse Country or Maleny. Wherever you go have a great day!
Better local landscapes
Council is supporting the Skilling Queenslanders program run by the Department of Education and Training. Delivering employment opportunities to the long term unemployed, underemployed and people with a disability, program participants develop career skills while helping to build and maintain council assets in local communities. Projects include landscape refurbishment work at the corner of Bellvista Boulevard and Caloundra Road, and at Woodgrove Estate, Beerwah.
Weeds, fences and revegetation - apply now for help!
Expressions of Interest are now open for Landholder Environment Grants. If you are a private rural landholder within the Sunshine Coast Local Government Area and would like to undertake an on-ground project on your property to protect and enhance the natural assets and biodiversity of the region then these grants could assist. Submit an Expression of Interest online to have a council conservation officer visit your property to discuss the project in more detail. Expressions of interest close 5.00pm Monday, February 22. For further information visit council’s website or contact a grants officer on grants@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au or 5420 8616.
Awards for Conservation and Light Rail Planning
Your council’s progressive thinking has not gone unnoticed over recent weeks, with the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors awarding council the 2015 Group Wildlife Conservation Award, in recognition of environmental programs we deliver including the Koala Conservation Plan, Environmental Land Acquisition Program, Volunteer and environmental grants program. The Planning Institute of Australia also awarded council the national Policies, Programs and Concepts – large scale award for the Light Rail Shaping our Future report, and the state award in the Best Planning Ideas—Large Regional or Urban Project category: a great endorsement for the light rail / integrated transport project which, in my view, is critical to shaping a sustainable future for our region. Well done to everybody involved!

Mark McArdle State Member for Caloundra Community Centre gem of the Hinterland
Firstly I’d like to welcome everyone to the start of 2016. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and spent some much-needed time with family. For some, taking a break is a chance to holiday in your own backyard but to also reconnect with your local community. Here in the Hinterland a gem of a place to do this is the Mooloolah Valley Community Centre at 43 Bray Road, Mooloolah Valley. Did you know the centre has been operating for an impressive seven years? That’s thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers which currently stands at 50. There’s some great initiatives on offer including counselling, Justice of the Peace services, a monthly community barbecue, mini-markets, room hire and arguably one of the best op-shops on the Sunshine Coast. The community garden operates Saturdays from 2.00pm – 5.00pm and a cuppa is always available to those who want to come and socialise or do some serious gardening. Emergency relief is available for people, who through no fault of their own, find themselves in financial hardship. Assistance is in the form of IGA vouchers, Telstra and petrol vouchers, clothing and household goods from the Op Shop. Two qualified Psychologists also visit the centre for counselling on Mondays and Fridays between 9.00am and 5.00pm. Community members who are in need of help can access the service via a referral from their local GP, and each visit is bulk billed. If you have ever thought of supporting a local organisation you can become members of the association, which is just $5.00 per year for singles or $10.00 a year for families. Can I say well done to all the team at the centre and please keep up the good work. Visit www.mooloolahcommunitycentre.org
Memorial Hall gets a boost
I’m very pleased to share Landsborough’s 90-year-old School of Arts Memorial Hall has received a cash injection of $32,000 from the State Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund. The money is part of a five stage repair project that will preserve the historic Hall for future generations to enjoy. This is the second stage of the program and will involve structural repairs to roof gutters and downpipes and also structural engineering works inside. Keep up the great work Linda, Shirley and all the team.

JANUARY 20 2016
Is your New Year's resolution to take better care of yourself? One way for women aged over 40 years to do just that is to book in for a free breast screen every two years. The free BreastScreen Queensland Sunshine Coast’s mobile service is in Beerwah during February. BreastScreen Health Promotion Officer Kelly Hart said the service had appointments available, including some late afternoon appointments. “We like to encourage eligible women to make a New Year’s resolution to have their first breastscreen,” Ms Hart said. “One in eight Queensland women will develop breast cancer at some stage in their life. As there is currently no means of preventing breast cancer, the focus in reducing deaths from this disease has been on finding breast cancer as early as possible. “After your first appointment you will be sent a reminder when you are due for a rescreen every two years,” she said. Ms Hart said even with a great amount of publicity about breast cancer, there were still a lot of women who had not made having a breast screen a regular part of their health regime. “The risk of breast cancer increases with age. All women aged 50-74 years are strongly encouraged to make an appointment,” she said. “There is no need for women to put off having a breast screen any longer. It’s quick, simple, convenient and free. A doctor’s referral is not required.” The BreastScreen Queensland Sunshine Coast mobile service is located at the Beerwah Community Hall, Peachester Road from February 1 to 5. Call 13 20 50 to make an appointment or for further information.

Join up & Sign on Get your body moving By Lea Parkes Did you make one of those New Year’s resolutions about getting you or the kids to be more active, improve fitness levels and overall health? Let’s face it many of us do, or think about what a good idea it would be to do it. However unless you get started, and work out a plan for how you are going to make it happen, then it is unlikely to happen. So over the next few pages we bring you just some of the local options to help make these things a reality. With many of the local sports clubs about to hold their sign on days, it is time to move it along and start working towards your goals. And some of the clubs also offer a 'Come and Try' or information session so you can find out a bit more before you make the final decision. And if you have absolutely no idea why not head along to the 2016 Sport, Recreation and Service Club Expo at Maleny on Australia Day from 7.30am where you can get an idea of the many sporting clubs available on the Range. Entry is free and there are also a range of games and activities on offer on the day.
Six ways to start 2016 as the healthiest, happiest you with Katie Clift from Cancer Council Queensland The hot cross buns have hit the shelves and most of us have already abandoned our New Year’s resolutions as we return to work and the bedlam begins again. Do not despair friends! Cancer Council Queensland has devised a list of six tips to help you prioritise your health and happiness this year. 1. Disconnect – Schedule time in your day to turn off the smartphone, move away from the TV and shut down your computer. Stepping away from technology allows more time to cook your favourite healthy meal, hit the gym, or simply slow down to enjoy the moment. 2. Prioritise play – Put fun on the agenda! Whether it’s having lunch with a friend, taking your dog for a walk, watching a movie or enjoying a homecooked meal: take time every day to invest in activities that boost your overall wellbeing. 3. Plan ahead – It might seem counter-intuitive, but making time to plan your goals for 2016 is one of the best ways to reduce and manage your stress levels. Use a large wall calendar to schedule major events, or invest in some personal time to keep a journal and diarise activities so they don’t overwhelm you. 4. Exercise – Get active on most, preferably all, days of the week. Just five hours of moderate intensity physical activity or two and a half hours of vigorous intensity exercise per week, plus muscle strengthening activities, can get you healthy and happy fast. 5. Shop well – Starting the New Year with a new attitude to food should be a priority. Maintaining a healthy weight and enjoying a balanced diet can significantly reduce your risks of chronic disease and can also improve your overall mental health. Enjoy a wide variety of nutritious foods from the Australian Dietary Guideline’s five recommended food groups every day (plenty of vegetables, fruit, grain foods, lean meats and poultry, milk, yoghurt, cheese and/or their alternatives), and drink plenty of water. 6. Book a screen – Take the time to put your health first. When was the last time you checked your skin, booked a breast screen, scheduled an appointment with your GP or participated in bowel cancer screening? Find out what cancer screening you’re eligible for, and plan now to participate where necessary in 2016. Living a healthier and happier life doesn’t require a major overhaul of your habits – it’s about small steps to improve short and long term health, improving your life expectancy and taking time to enjoy every day along the way. More information about Cancer Council Queensland is available at cancerqld.org.au or 13 11 20.

Babies, Kids &
Parents
Back to school
with Doctor Bob from the Parenting Centre, Maleny With the start of another school year upon us, it's a great time to reflect on how parents can best support their children around school issues. One of the most awe-inspiring things about human beings is that we are all different. Every one of us is unique - we are the only one who can provide our voice and our perspective to the world. It’s a beautiful thing that each child is totally different. Unfortunately, schools are forced to try to teach 25-30 children at one time. Most school teachers I know are amazingly creative and work extremely hard to provide the best experience they can for as many of the children in their class as possible. Still, they are left with a very challenging task, and it requires them to adopt a ‘one size fits all’ model. Children who are very focused and very compliant tend to be rewarded. Children who have a more diffuse focus, and are less obedient, tend to be punished or given the message there is something wrong with them. Actually, just because a child doesn't ‘fit’ at school doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them. It doesn't mean there is anything ‘wrong’ with the school. It’s just that one size, one approach, actually doesn't fit all. As parents, we don't want our children to feel there is anything wrong with them if things don't go well at school. Even though there are social pressures on us as parents to have our children ‘do well’ at school academically and not be a ‘problem’ for the teachers, the best thing we can do for our children is celebrate them exactly as they are. If school doesn't work for them, for whatever reason, it doesn't mean they are not smart, and it doesn't mean they are not ‘good’. The challenge is working with the school, or the individual teacher, to try to meet your child's needs. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But your advocacy and support for your child means everything. You are still the most important person in your child's emotional world. If we can embrace the fact that a child who earns straight A's and is school captain is no more valuable than a child who is unsuccessful academically or struggles because he or she is not compliant, we can focus on celebrating the unique and perfect individual our child is. And that's the best way to ‘grow’ children into adults with a strong self-esteem and sense of self worth.
Parenting Course at Maleny
Teaches skills and supports families in building more peaceful and loving relationships. P.E.T. is an internationally acclaimed course designed to teach communication and relationship skills. Parents learn to respond empathetically to children and connect before they correct. They learn ways to get their needs met without using coercion and control. They learn how to build self-esteem, responsibility and resilience in children and resolve family conflicts easily. Gain more cooperation from kids, create more harmonious relationships, raise responsible resilient kids, and resolve conflicts easily. The course starts on Wednesday, February 3 and runs for eight weeks from 9.00am to 12.00noon at the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre. The cost of the workbook is $33.00. To find out more, contact Wendy McManus at Caloundra & Hinterland Family Support Program on 0423 716 705 or email wendy@calcomm.org.au
WIN WIN WIN
It’s Back to School time, which can be a minefield of emotions for both parents and children alike. Dr Bob Jacobs, from the Parenting Centre has written a book that might help families navigate these and other challenges. ‘Perfect Parents, Perfect Children’ is about celebrating the inherent perfection in ourselves and in our children. Through personal stories of the families Dr Bob has worked with, this book demonstrates that we do not need to 'control' or 'tame' our children, and suggests ideas of how to eliminate power-struggles and put the joy back into parenting. Thanks to Dr Bob, we have five copies of his book to give away to our readers. To win, be one of our Facebook likers, share this competition post and comment ‘shared’ below. Competition will be drawn 4.00pm Monday, February 1 and winners notified via Facebook. Prize must be collected from the GC&M News office.

Dine In
Take Out
with Sonia Clark
Great eats and treats to find locally!
Sacred Tree Café For our first Dine in Take out of the year, Lea and I met for breakfast at Sacred Tree Café in Landsborough. Both of us have previously visited the cafe on various occasions, and the space with its colourful indoor decor and expansive outdoor setting, always seems to inspire a general feeling of relaxation and wellbeing. Mother and daughter owners - Julie and Sarah are always available for a friendly chat, and visiting this time, we had a chance to discuss some of the tasty and tempting new menu items on offer. Good coffee always starts the day right, and happily this is an area that the ladies always do well. Breakfast is served from 7.00am - 11.30am (Sunday - all day) and after a bit of deliberation, Lea and I decided to try the new Avo Smash.
This consists of smashed avocado on toasted sourdough with crumbled feta and (in an interesting but subtly tasty touch) house smoked cherry tomatoes ($9.95). In the spirit of investigative journalism, Lea and I also thought we'd sample the new French Toast breakfast option which replaces the previously offered pancakes. With two thick slices of bread soaked in cinnamon egg mix, cooked until browned and served with maple syrup and ice cream ($13.95), between Lea and myself it went pretty quick! In a more Americanised touch, bacon can be added for an additional $4.00. Checking out the lunch menu (served 11.30pm 3.00pm) while we were waiting for our order, we saw that the majority of the options were new.
There were some tasty sounding new dishes such as the Middle Eastern Chicken (more like a tasting platter that could be easily shared by meat eaters and vegetarians $16.50) and the Pumpkin and Beetroot Salad ($13.95). One of the nice things about the cafe is that it offers a larger than usual vegetarian/vegan focus which could suit those wanting occasional meat free options, or more choices to cater for different dietary preferences. The menu definitely caters to both vegetarian and hard core carnivores alike. Everything is prepared in house and the food is tasty and wholesome and you just feel good afterwards – which to me is a winning formula. Australia Day = beach + cricket
Aussie Day Glasshouse Country way – with pineapples
What could be better than kicking back under a shady Pandanus at Queensland’s best beach, listening to some great music and enjoying some cricket on Australia Day? The Caloundra Cricket Club is hosting a Beach Party this Australia Day at Kings Beach. The club is raising funds for their new indoor training facility, due to be constructed before the start of the next season. The club is grabbing a prime shady spot at Kings Beach and is inviting all cricket (and beach) lovers to join them for what promises to be a great day out for the whole family. A mini cricket field will be set up in Lions Park and cricket lovers of all shapes and sizes will be invited to put their names down for a game. There’ll be a catching competition and a range of prizes on offer for the best cricket highlights on the day. The Brisbane Heat will supply one of their mobile cricket nets and a speed gun so any budding Mitchell Starcs out there will be able to test their heat. The club will also play host to a Triple J hottest 100 party for those who prefer to sit in the shade by the beach. A bar will operate throughout the day and great food will be available. Two screens will be set up to watch the Australia vs. India international T20 later in the evening. The Australia Day Beach Party is free to attend and all are welcome. The event will kick off from 11.00am and finishes at the end of the T20 match.

There will be plenty of spectacular cars on show as well as a swap meet, Dyno competition and loads of entertainment, raffles, live music and food and beverages to enjoy. Entry is $2.00, and the entertainment will include a family funday ‘Pineapple Challenge’. This will feature pineapple ironman/ironwoman contests, pineapple chuck and other fun events, with judging starting from 9.30am. There will be market stalls and jumping castle all
day with a barbecue on the field from 9.30am. The club’s canteen will be open from 8.30am and licensed bar will be open from 10.00am. Kids can have their face painted from 9.30am 11.30am, and local band ‘Empty Seats’ will play from 1.30pm. The day will also feature raffles and prize money up for grabs. Hinterland Aussie Day will be held at the Showgrounds on Tuesday, January 26 and promises to be a great family day out - kicking off around 7.00am with the famous Big Breakfast from the Apex Club of Maleny. The Maleny Singers will then welcome our newest citizens and showcase their talent by accompanying the traditional Flag Raising event and New Citizen's Ceremony. The fun will then begin with a packed program of family friendly activities that will run in conjunction with the 2016 Sport, Recreation and Service Club Expo. Free entry for all to the Aussie Day Expo, means enjoying exciting and interactive community displays and family games, on the oval until 12.00noon. The day will feature games for the kids (of all ages), an Obstacle-a-thon, Gumboot Throwing, an Aussie Day Thong Relay and heaps more. There will be food and refreshments on offer, and displays from the Hinterland’s many and varied community clubs and groups to ensure this will be a wonderful morning out. From woodworking to landcare, netball to polo, service clubs and emergency services - more than 50 groups will be on show. There will be a wide array of district clubs and organisations proudly showcasing their activities. As well as a family day out, the Expo is a great way to find out more about what’s on offer in our beautiful Hinterland. The clubs provide information about themselves, giving people who may not know much about what they do, the chance to get involved. The Aussie Day Expo provides an opportunity for community organisations to show just what they do, and how worthwhile it can be to join any sport, recreation or service club to get the most out of your leisure time and get involved in your local community. The business community has once again generously donated products, vouchers and passes as prizes in the popular Expo Passport Draw. All visitors can be in the running to win fantastic prizes simply by collecting stamps from each display on their ‘Expo Passport’ which will be drawn on the day at 11.30am. Bring the whole family and enjoy this great Hinterland Event on Australia Day 2016! Proudly sponsored by Maleny Sports and Recreation Club, Maleny Credit Union and Hinterland Times. For more details see their Facebook page - Hinterland Aussie Day Sport, Recreation & Service Club Expo. Maleny-Stanley River Road, Maleny. 7.00am - 12.00noon.

Banksia robur This is an interesting specimen plant for the garden. It grows naturally in the freshwater wetlands and does not mind having wet feet although it also does well in drier situations once established. This spreading shrub will grow 2-3m tall and wide. The large leaves are stiff and leathery with toothed margins. The new growth is colourful, in shades of red, maroon or brown with a dense felt-like covering of brown hairs. The compact flower brushes are the point of interest. The buds are an intense bluegreen, open to greenish-yellow and then fade to rusty brown. The 20cm flower brushes can appear at any time of the year, and at any stage there are likely to be brushes at all of the different stages, making for an interesting display. This, as with other banksias, is a major source of nectar for many of the native wildlife including birds, bees, and possums.

By Chris Bell Christmas Day was a double celebration at Glasshouse Country Uniting Church as we were honoured with a visit from Bishop Kora Tabora and his wife Kila from Gabagaba Village in Papua New Guinea. Although members of the congregation had not met the Bishop and his wife before, it was an exciting reunion with their travelling companions Willie and Elizabeth Asigau. The PNG visitors are pictured with Bev Holyer, Rob Critchley, Ruth Wright, Paia Ingram, John Ingram, and Chris and Martin Bell, who had previously been home hosted in Gabagaba Village.

Glasshouse Country Ministers Fellowship Margaret Niethe - Glasshouse Country Uniting Church Have you ever been on a journey that you do not know how or when it might end? Do you know that you are on a journey? In the journey of life none of us know when or where that journey might end, when there will be a turn in the road of life that takes a curve too fast, and you didn’t see the end of the road. Life is full of ups and downs and when we are living them there are some of us who get angry and complain; some of us that coast down this road never noticing the roadside; the joys and the sunshine that lights our way, the good that walks with you and beside you. For many of us we never see the special moments until it’s too late. We forget to take time to smell the roses. In a world that seems to sap our energy, where do you look for the peace and understanding that will carry you through the journey? Yes, there are many ways to seek peace and for many of us we just keep on

looking, trying the latest remedy or fad, thinking this might be the one. Take a moment; look around at the place where you live, the beauty in the creation all around. The God that created the universe and all that is in it, created you; gave you life and it’s yours to live to the fullest, perusing the journey, living life in ways that create good and purposeful energy. So, as you seek your answers for the journey you are on, take a look at the Scriptures, for our God does not grow weary, He renews our strength when we seek to know Him. I invite you to read (Isaiah 40:28-31). As you run the race of life I pray that you will be aware of the road as it turns.

Sport A huge thank you
To all our Little Athletics parent helpers and volunteers on December 12, Laura Vobr and Rhiarn Tranter paired up and competed in the McDonald’s Little Athletics State Relay Championships at SAF (QEII) Stadium. Through tough competition, an outstanding effort by the girls secured third place, each bringing home a Bronze state medallion for the Under 13 Girls Discus. Laura and Rhiarn would like to thank all those dedicated parents, grandparents, volunteers and committee members, who without delay provide their spare time and assistance every Friday night and throughout our entire carnival season.
From on-field and on-track assistance, food preparation, car-pooling, general encouragement and guidance, plus those extra training sessions with ‘Uncle Neil’, Glasshouse Little Athletics would not be able to operate, and our fellow athlete’s goals and achievements would seem entirely unreachable. So, to all of those awesome people out there, we thank you and appreciate everything you do. You Rock!
San Taekwondo year ends with a wet fight Contributed by Norm Taylor
More than 40 students, their parents and instructors from Maleny, Beerwah and Kenilworth branches of the San Taekwondo Club came together at the San Training Centre,Beerwah for the final grading tests for the year. Gradings test technical skill, fitness and self-defence ability through performing a series of drills, sparring and breaking timber. One milestone this time was the promotion of Aaron Lerch to his black belt. Aaron is the first student to have been promoted from beginning to black belt through the Beerwah branch after more than three years of training. Following the grading, everyone joined in for some games, food, drinks and fun for the end of year celebration, which culminated in a huge water-bomb fight. The little kids pounded each other – and the instructors, while parents watched from the sidelines. The end of year trophies were awarded, with the club
spirit trophies going to Jodi Chapman at Beerwah, Chloe Lanham at Maleny and 5-year-old Bonnie Paulger at the Kenilworth branch. The overall most improved trophy was awarded to Josh Collins and the student of the year was awarded to Emma Hall. Classes have run throughout the school holidays at Beerwah while Maleny and Kenilworth had a break. Come along to the Maleny Sport & Recreation Expo on Australia Day to talk to us and watch a demonstration by our crew. San would like to thank the continued support of 2015 sponsors Hinterland Sports and Karom Salts. For more information visit www.santkd.com

Beerwah Ladies Golf Contributed by Sue Williamson
The very hot weather conditions on Thursday did not deter 55 very courageous lady golfers, from battling it out on the beautiful Beerwah course, for the first game of the new year. The event was a Single Stableford competition which was, very generously, sponsored by lady members Bridget John and Glenys Parry. The year commenced with some very impressive scores achieved. Division 1 winner, on a count back from Hope Hannah, was Karen Gannon with a score of 37 points. The Division 2 winner was Vice Captain, Lyn Steele, with 38 points and runner up was Ruth Parish with 35 points. Pin shots went to Carolyn Hale on the second, a near hole in one on the fifth by Lyn Steele, Captain Lea Garner on the 16th and Cathy Stone on the 18th. The ball rundown went to 32 Stableford points. Next week’s competition will be a Single Par, so until then stay hydrated and happy golfing.

Just for Laughs
It Costs No More To Hire A Proven Professional
What a dreamer After a long process of interviewing many applicants for an engineering job, the Human Resources Officer was reaching the end of the last job interview, and he asks a young engineer fresh out of QUT. "And what starting salary are you looking for?" The engineer replies, "in the region of $125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package received as well." The interviewer at this stage has heard it all, but
responds, "well, what would you say to a package of five weeks holiday, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every two years, say, a red Corvette?" The engineer sits up straight and says excitedly, "Wow! Are you kidding?" The interviewer replies, "yeah, but you started it." Submitted by Shane, Glass House

Week beginning 20/01/2016 30
CAPRICORN December 23 – January 19 The competitive spirit is strong this week and by Friday the Moon, in Cancer, is opposite your sign, denoting that partners will bring to you considerable influence over the next couple of days. As you try to hold your own ideas, the Full moon on Sunday sees competitive arguments. AQUARIUS January 20 – February 19 Pent up feelings need expression. But that is best achieved by swimming in the ocean, under the Moon sign of Cancer for Friday and Saturday. Venus now goes into Capricorn so you pull back from the social scene for more quiet private time. Mercury goes direct, freeing your mind. PISCES February 20 – March 20 Bold and independent action comes with freedom and independence, so this is an excellent week for promoting yourself and your agenda. Romantic interests are favoured because you can express yourself creatively under the full Moon in Leo on Sunday. Problems are solved! ARIES March 21 – April 20 The full Moon is going to light up your relations with loved ones, children and friends. It should be a good week as Venus enters Capricorn, and that is excellent for business alliances. Mercury goes direct next week, clearing up old misunderstandings and setting stalled plans back on track.
TAURUS April 21 – May 21 The Moon moves through the signs of Cancer and Leo so that the full Moon, at the weekend, suggests that devoting time to your home and family provides you with a secure base, from which to make a fresh start. There will be afternoons spent with friends and neighbours enjoying their company. GEMINI May 22 – June 21 This weekend sees the full Moon stimulating your travel and communication zones. Networking and trip plans buzz around your brain for new ideas. Some talk about going to New Zealand ensuring best dollar conversion, makes it less expensive for a holiday. Feelings replace logic. CANCER June 22 – July 22 Communication goes from one extreme to the other. Some are withholding information while others divulge secrets and bring hidden information to light. Friday sees the Moon in your sign and that can get you caught up in tensions, emanating from various sources. Focus on budget. LEO July 23 – August 22 The full Moon on Sunday will be in your sign so you will assess your needs in relation to which entertainment suits you best. The evenings seem to hold a desire to see the newest band play, or a special new film release. Partners are all hyped up, ready to go. Health is improving.
VIRGO August 23 – September 22 There is an itchy trigger finger when it comes to shooting off a volley of words between friends as you focus on a worthy goal. Under a full Moon challenge, over the weekend, there is need to draw the line between too much work, and not enough social life. Sort out routines now. LIBRA September 23 – October 22 A serious and revised decision is being made regarding your home, plus a family matter that affects your security. Maybe it is your living space that someone is invading. The Leo full Moon on Sunday makes you think of seeing a lot more entertainment now. You rise pre-dawn! SCORPIO October 23 – November 22 Relationships may be strained under the full Moon weekend with the stressful aspects of a full Moon in Leo. With Venus entering Capricorn, your thoughts turn to material matters. You see there are limitations and rules on how to invest as the market goes through a perplexing upheaval. SAGITTARIUS November 23 – December 23 You will be interested in the fact that the Sun has entered Aquarius, so the weeks ahead open interesting neighbourhood activities. There is complicated matter surrounding money, perhaps relating to airfare deals. Venus entering Capricorn the following week means travel deals.
