Hi Everyone

or high school students, the long awaited goal of finishing school is seen as something pretty exciting and there is much anticipation surrounding all details of the formals / graduations. And while having the right dress, shoes, hair and handbag are pretty important, it seems that how you arrive at the event also really makes a statement about who you are. In my day the ultimate thing was to get a group and each kick in some cash and go in a limo (very boring by today’s standards). Setting the standard quite high are our front page cover boys. Not bad arriving on a Fire Truck with the sirens going and lights flashing – now that’s definitely making a statement.

How about on the back of a Harley Davidson motorbike – not bad for a girl in a long dress, or in a hot rod, a sports car, a vintage car, a hotted up Kingswood, a semi trailer (truck) or my personal favourite, sitting on a lounge in the back of a ute. What I think is really great is that this is one element of the big event that isn’t about who paid out the most money, but it was all about coming up with something quirky and a little bit different. Congratulations on finishing high school, I wonder how long it will be until this year’s graduands realise just how good their school days were? Regards,

Khaki action Australia Zoo was a sea of khaki on Steve Irwin Day last Thursday, November 15. Actor John Waters, Olympic swimming goldmedalist Melanie Schlanger and singing sensation Darren Percival joined Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin in officially launching the sixth annual celebration. Steve Irwin Day is a celebration of the life and legacy of the original Wildlife Warrior, Steve Irwin. The day aims to celebrate the things Steve loved most – family, wildlife conservation and fun – while teaching others how they can ‘Khaki It’. “Steve had such a passion for doing his best to protect the planet, and he lived his life fighting to save wildlife and wild places,” Terri said. “It is my hope that people will be inspired by Steve to do their best to make a positive difference.” Special guests John Waters, Melanie Schlanger and Darren Percival added their handprints to the

Steve Irwin Day at Beerwah school Beerwah State School student leadership team celebrated Steve Irwin day with a Wildlife Warriors camp out in the school grounds. The students set up their camp before a representative from Australia Zoo, Mr Peter Dwan presented some interesting facts and photographs about the Wildlife Warrior program. The students were amazed at the costs involved in running the animal hospital. Afterwards students enjoyed a great program

involving a barbeque, nocturnal animal walk, star gazing, damper on a stick and singing around the campfire. In the morning, dressed in Khaki the students set up a donation billy at the campfire. As students and teachers arrived, they threw their donations of coins into the billy to the loud encouragement of the student leaders who thanked them for helping the Wildlife Warriors program. In all the125 students, families and teachers raised a total of $261.00. The school student leadership team had a great time camping out and thank everyone for supporting the Wildlife Warriors at Australia Zoo. What’s planned for Beerwah Council’s draft planning strategy – out now for public comment – includes the following predictions for some of the key growth indicators for Beerwah and surrounds. • Population: 2011 – 4446; 2031 – 8280 • Local jobs: 2011 – 2496; 2031 – 4993 • Land zoned as urban: 374 hectares • Number of single dwelling: 2011 – 1158; 2031 – 1830 • Number of multiple dwellings: 2011 – 276; 2031 – 1127 The figures show that Council expects the population of Beerwah to almost double over the next 20 years. Most of that growth will come from multiple dwellings (units and townhouses) – with a 308 per cent increase in their numbers, whereas the single dwellings (houses) will only increase by 58 per cent. This form of development is generally called ‘infill’ – which is the redevelopment of existing low density housing into higher density living, rather than expansion of low density estates into new areas. In fact, comparing the planning map for the township in the draft strategy to the one in the 2004 Caloundra City Plan, shows that the land area available for low density housing has been reduced. The comparison also shows that a large area of previously zoned low density housing is now available for redevelopment as medium density.

There is also an area around Arcadia Drive which has been rezoned to allow for dual occupancy (i.e. duplex development) on the existing residential housing blocks. Beerwah has been identified as a Major Regional Centre – giving it the same status as the other similarly identified centres of Noosaville, Nambour, Sippy Downs, Kawana, Caloundra and the yet-to-be constructed Caloundra South. The Beerwah Local Plan Code (Section 7.2.2) establishes that the vision for Beerwah is for it to be ‘progressively developed as the Major Regional Centre for the southern Sunshine Coast hinterland providing a broad range of higher order uses and activities capable of servicing the local community as well as surrounding towns, villages, rural residential and rural areas.’ It’s nice to know that Beerwah will be given the same considerations as these other areas when Council is sharing around community facilities (such as large playgrounds, pathways and cycleways), public transport services, maintenance of public parks, and supporting community groups, festivals and events. The document also identifies Beerwah as a main industrial area and an Identified Growth Area (IGA) which, subject to further investigation, may accommodate long-term employment growth. It is unclear what this ‘long-term employment growth’ may relate to. The figures show that the jobs in the town will double over the next 20 years (from 2496 to 4993), but comparing the planning maps from 2004 and from the draft plan, shows that there is no increase in the commercial business centre area.

Wild weekend One exception is the rezoning of a large area of land along Steve Irwin Way, from the Beerwah bypass fly-over road down to Coochin Creek and across to the railway line. The land was zoned as low density housing, but since the State Government purchased it as part of the bypass project, it’s now been changed to a ‘specialised centre zone’ category. This allows for large floor space retail businesses, such as hardware stores, shopping centres, adult stores, parking stations, and also crematoriums. The Priority Infrastructure Planning section (Section 4) shows there are no new road projects, no new cycleway projects and one new pathway project planned from now until 2031. The pathway project identified for the betterment of the area is the one connecting the pathway on Old Landsborough Road to Australia Zoo. Unfortunately, the large residential area directly across Steve Irwin Way (Sidney Drive area) won’t be able to utilise the pathway for them to walk /

Local business National recycling week By Lea Parkes gone one better - one of their creative volunteers week was National Recycling week and so enters 'Hall of Fame' Last has made upcycled handbags. I took a look around at the interesting recycling Hahn Environmental Services based at Landsborough and Narangba took out a Hall of Fame Award at the Sunshine Coast Business Awards on Saturday night. After receiving previous awards in past years such as the Innovation, Environmental Industries Large Business and Enterprise of the Year Winner, this locally based business is set to grow and hopefully employ more staff in the future. Director Allan Lear thanked his staff, the sponsors and the Sunshine Coast Council for recognising the hard work all Sunshine Coast businesses are doing in trying to help the local economy which in turn drives local employment. He said “It is important for businesses to support each other in locally based projects so that more people can stay living where they work."

More recently Aldi at Beerwah have introduced their battery recycling and once a month the Beerwah Lions Club do their aluminium can collection morning. However what has got me really intrigued at the moment is the concept of upcycling – when an item is used to create something better. These casual handbags are created from good fabric from a donated garment that isn’t suitable for sale. At Total Microsystems in Beerwah the business owner Daniel Moodie and Tara Smithyman are using upcycled paper bags when they sell computer accessories to their clients. The bags are made overseas from Indian newspaper . At Beerwah Recycle Market where their total focus is on recycling, recreating, and reusing, it is hard to just pick out one project to focus on – but as we are just heading into the festive season I thought we should focus on Christmas. In the workshop the fellas are working on a Santa who will be in a sleigh made from an old bed head and a rocking horse – now that’s clever.

Former Peachester local and well known local bus driver Ken Chamberlain passed away Sunday night after a short battle with Cancer. Ken and his wife Syliva lived in Julian Street Peachester for nearly 17 years up until 2010 when they decided to downsize their property and move to Little Mountain.

While they might have moved out of Glasshouse Country their hearts remained loyally local with Ken continuing to work with Glasshouse Country Coaches as he had done since 1999. Sylvia said when there was talk of starting up a bus service for Maleny to Nambour about four years ago, he did all he possibly could to make sure that it would be a success and maintain this service for the commuters who used it. “He had a fantastic relationship with his passengers and became good friends with so many of them they would even come to hospital to visit him,” she said. “Even when he was a local school bus driver for so many local children around Beerwah, Peachester, and Glass House etc, he had a good relationship with them and still to this day when they see him out and about in the area they always came up and chat with him.” Sylvia said over the years they have had lots and lots of parents who just couldn't thank Ken enough for the way he looked after their children on the bus.

Ken thought and treated these children as if they were his own and said they were his ‘precious cargo of the future generation’ and they would be kept safe whilst under his care. Both Ken and Sylvia were bowlers and committee members at Glasshouse Country Bowls Club for several years too and they used to run the Wednesday night bowls for many years with plenty of fun and laughter. A service was held for Ken at Gregson and Weight on Saturday, November 17. Ken leaves behind his wife of 41 years Sylvia (who worked at Frohloffs Fruit Barn on Peachester Road for several years) and daughter Sheryl, son Shane, daughter-in-law Peta, and grandchildren, Jett, Khye, and Hunter.

The physios at LPC are concerned about 100◦-130◦ the number of parents and children seeking physiotherapy treatment for back, neck and shoulder pain caused by poor computer posture, lack of exercise and not taking regular breaks from sustained postures. Here are some healthy tips to help prevent this problem. • Adjust your workstation. Position your screen at arm’s length, slightly below eye level and directly in front of you. • Adjust your chair, making sure that your back rest supports the curve in your lower back. • Keep your feet flat on the floor. Be aware your knees, hips and elbows need to be at a comfortable angle, preferably 90°. • Take regular breaks. Limit the continuous computer use to half an hour and try to take breaks every 15 minutes. Performing Our Arts Off Mooloolah well and truly performed its arts off on Saturday, November 3 with a full line up of performers showcasing a diverse range of local talent from people of all ages. The night offered a broad variety of musical talent from piano accordion, some dancing, and established and emerging solo artists. ‘Miss Marie’ sang like an angel and ‘Sulco’ rocked the house. The vibe was fun and funky as people got creative with the funky hat and shoes theme. The creativity didn’t stop there as the audience showed their artistic talents with crayons and pencils at the butcher paper covered tables. Some created amazing artworks whilst enjoying the night, others wrote poetry, doodled or played board games.

Creativity flowed on in the kitchen with nacho’s being new to the menu, which proved very popular. So if you haven’t already experienced the phenomenon that is ‘Mooloolah Performing Our Arts Off’, come along, bring your friends and family and be part of the creative vibe next time. It started as a twinkle in the eye of three Grannies, Shirley Moore, Betty Grahm Higgs and Kate Wright. This time last year, at the Beerwah Writers Group’s Christmas party, they decided that the group should collaborate and put together a book of short stores for children. And 12 months later, through the combined efforts of 12 local authors who each wrote stories, one talented artist Davon Isackson who created the gorgeous cover, and three local youngsters Jesse, Eli and Zoey Budd who provided illustrations, the final product is just spectacular. The group is just about to pick up their second print run of 100 books from the Maleny Green Printing and is really pleased with the result of their efforts as well as the interest and enthusiasm they have received from the community. The book is also a fundraising project, with funds raised going to Zambian Outreach to assist with building a new clinic to serve 35,000 slum dwellers in Chibolya, in the Zambian capital, where there is currently no medical facility. The book contains 25 delightful stories that will capture the imagination of children of all ages and take them on a magical journey, making it a lovely Christmas gift. A flying start for Preps

School News Landsborough students remember Senior students recently conducted the 2012 Remembrance Day Service at Landsborough State School. The entire school community gathered to remember those men and women who have died or suffered in all wars, conflicts and peace operations. A major focus of Landsborough’s ceremony this year was Operation Slipper, Australia’s military contribution to efforts against international terrorism in Afghanistan. The Australian Defence Force has so far suffered 39 operational deaths in Afghanistan. During the ceremony, 39 students stood silently, each proudly holding up a photo of one of the Australian soldiers killed in

action during deployment to Afghanistan. At the same time, names and images of each of these casualties were projected onto a big screen in a memorable slideshow tribute to our troops. Seeing the 39 students standing, each one representing a life lost, was a very moving part of the service. Following this, everyone paused for a minute’s silence to respect and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Other highlights from the ceremony included a recital of the First World War poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’ and the school hall being decorated in handmade poppies which were arranged to spell out a very symbolic message – ‘Lest We Forget’.

During the end of third term children excitedly watched as the new building arrived on the back of four trucks. It was assembled onsite with the use of a crane to lift it over the existing hall. Boasting a full kitchen, store room and office, the classroom gives the Prep / Year 1 class all the space it could need. The new interactive white board and colourful furniture finish off this wonderful learning area. The new classroom is a fantastic environment to learn in, it allows us the space to engage in hands-on learning both inside and outdoors. Year 12 students at Beerwah High celebrated their graduation and last day of school at a ceremony last Friday. There were plenty of tears and not just from the students, although it was hard to tell if they were tears of joy or sorrow. Congratulations and Good Luck in the future.

One of the activities undertaken at Beerwah State School to encourage students to read has been the Premier's Reading Challenge. The challenge encourages all students to read at least 15 books and keep a checklist signed by a parent or guardian. The challenge begins in May of each year and is finalised at the beginning of September. Congratulations to all students who completed the challenge. The conversations between children at St Paul's Lutheran Primary School were a little unusual this week, as students discussed Christmas gifts with their teachers. But these gifts weren't for the students themselves; instead they are part of the Australian Lutheran World Service's ‘Gifts of Grace’ Christmas appeal.

The ‘Gifts of Grace’ program helps people in poverty in places such as Cambodia, South Sudan and Burundi. From pigs and seed vouchers to stoves, bedding for orphans, fishing kits and Farmer field school, students at St Paul’s are choosing exactly how they can give life-changing gifts to others far away. Gifts start at just $5.00, with six gifts under $12.00, making it truly accessible for even the youngest child. For each gift they choose, they receive a Gift Card to give to a friend or family member, and the chosen help is delivered to a family in a poor community. “Giving a gift that also blesses those far away? What better thing could we do at this time of the year,” said Mr Gilbert Lohe, St Paul’s Deputy Principal. Some clarification

To clear any ambiguity that some people may have regarding my horses when I did the article in GCNews, I had three horses. I do not like the word ‘rescue’ however I purchased two that were aged horses that when sold would end up in pet food. One was crippled and it took many months of treatment to enable me to ride her, the other was poor due to the fact the young fellow who had them had too many and was unable to feed them. The other horse, Rocky, had been kicked out of the stable due to his behaviour and the girl who had him was leaving the country. Her associate had said that as soon as she left, the horse was going to the knackery. A friend of mine who was also the farrier took the horse and knew I would look alter it, so gave it to me. Since the article was printed two other horses have arrived. One, a grey mare, had been saved from the pet food industry by the same farrier and was left on a free lease with other horse people in Glass House on the understanding that when they were finished with her she was given back to him. This occurred when they sold their two other horses and went travelling. The farrier asked me if I wanted the horse for one of the girls who ride with me on the same arrangement, that being a free lease hut, when she no longer wanted her, she was given back and that she be kept in my paddock where he knew she would be looked after. The other horse had been taken in by my daughter in Canberra when his racing career ended abruptly and he was about to make the trip to the pet food industry. She has had the horse for a number of years and is now intending to move to this area so sent her horse up to me. So I don’t think I have said I have saved all the horses, that is not correct, however they have

Some of the children wished to show their appreciation and started a Facebook page to raise funds to erect a shelter for the horses, due to the generosity of a local business woman the shed is forthcoming and the Facebook page removed. Not without a number of threats to the children and parents by another local. I face this same abuse most days when I go down to feed or ride. I said before when I did this I asked for nothing nor did I expect anything in return. I do this because I wish to give a little joy to those who are like me and love horses. Glasshouse Country on hold for Caloundra South

Last Monday evening at Beerwah RSL the Sunshine Coast Council presented the next stage of the Place + project for Beerwah. The presentation was on the ‘Proposed Focus Area’ of Simpson and Mawhinney Streets, Beerwah, the perception being to draw the east and west of Beerwah back together. The more people I talk to on this issue, the comments are similar. The town requires a simpler way of getting from Simpson Street to Beerwah Parade and the railway over bridge is not convenient or reliable. Beerwah east has the two licensed entertainment venues, when you visit the Draft Planning Scheme (DPS) the retention of high and medium density residential close to these venues rather than changing to commercial or light industrial to minimise the impact of noise continues to make life difficult for entertainment venues. At the presentation Cr Rick reaffirmed that Glasshouse Country is in the Caloundra South commercial catchment and the shopping centre developers will rely on our community to support and make their venture successful. The existing retail and service businesses relying on shop front trade will need to be smarter to retain the trade they have, forget about growth. In his column in last week’s GCNews I thought he was talking about a different DPS to the one our Chamber of Commerce team has been working on. The low density residential allocations are not stacking up because of fees and charges so don’t bank on anything soon. I can’t find too much Rural Residential available either. Beerwah is identified as a Major Regional Activity Centre, I am just not sure when. I hope all residents have taken the opportunity to view the DPS when in your community. You will still have another chance at the VIC in Glass House Mountains on November 28 and Mooloolah Thunderbird Café on November 29 from 2.00pm to 6.00pm in each of the locations. The Glass House Country Chamber of Commerce will be preparing submissions to council on the DPS which need to be submitted by December 14. The chamber will be happy to take on board your submission or concerns regarding DPS, your comments will assist in preparing a balanced view of your community’s desires. Christmas Challenge Supports Local Businesses Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP is challenging residents to shop locally and purchase 100 per cent of their Christmas needs from small businesses to help bolster sales and support local jobs in the lead up to the festive season. “The countdown to Christmas has well and truly begun and local businesses, particularly small businesses need our support,” Mr Powell said. “Many of the Newman Government members have a background in small business and we understand the importance of shopping locally to support business and industry. “When you shop local, your money stays local. Our small businesses in turn support the community through a multiplier effect, with one dollar spent at a local business returning five times that amount through employee wages, rates and the purchase of materials and supplies. “Small businesses also turn dollars received back into the community through school funding, social services and contributions to local non-profit agencies. “Small business is the backbone of Queensland’s four pillar economy, underpinning the vital sectors of tourism, agriculture, mining and construction.” The ‘100% Local Christmas Challenge’ encourages residents to do all of their Christmas shopping locally – a challenge that Mr Powell has also committed to. “The benefits of supporting local businesses and shopping locally cannot be underestimated,” Mr Powell said. “My family and I always try to shop locally and are doing our small part to bring more jobs into our region.” “This challenge is about strengthening and supporting our community.” Mr Powell said there are almost 412,000 small businesses in Queensland, accounting for 96 percent of all businesses in the state.

You might have noticed the new toilets at Mill Park in Beerwah aren’t open for use as yet. There have been a few delays because of the sewer connection and council has recently appointed a contractor to finalise this connection. In the meantime Council has made improvements to the original design of the toilets by introducing artistic elements into the front panels that depict the local Beerwah mallee tree. The toilets are expected to be fully functional by Friday, November 30.

Draft Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme It has been invaluable talking to people about their impression of the Draft Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme. A lot of locals have been coming to the displays just to seek reassurance about their own property, while others have talked through concerns about land supply issues with council’s planning staff. It seems that people on the whole are pleased to see that townships are not changing radically and that the region remains as a lifestyle destination through carefully preserving our regional character and containing urbanisation. Road rehabilitation in Glenview As part of a larger scope of works along Glenview Road, the existing road pavement gravel and bitumen surface between Clinton Court to Evergreen Drive is about to be rehabilitated to its original condition and width. Rehabilitation is scheduled to counter the effects of many years of wear and some minor drainage works will also be undertaken. Work is expected to be finished in early December.

I’m so pleased to be part of a council that is doing all it can to make a real difference to protect our natural environment. Council recently dedicated 15 reserves over 500 hectares of land with known koala habitat. The reserves are located from Glass House Mountains to Pomona and the majority have been purchased through the Environment Levy Program for their environmental values. Policeman Spur Nature Refuge is 10km south-west of Maleny on 40ha and is one of the 15 reserves that’s home to numerous endangered, vulnerable or near threatened plants and animals.

Counter disaster management

We had a very successful community disaster management planning meeting at the Mooloolah rural fire brigade shed, thank you to all who attended. I’d also like to acknowledge the dedicated and tireless work of the rural fire brigades – your work is appreciated.

RADF Grants

Arts grants are available now for Sunshine Coast artists seeking opportunities for professional development for up to $2,000 in funding in the current round of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). The dry spring has not affected the more hardy bromeliads. I have been expecting Aechmea nudicaulis to flower anytime now. This plant is perfect as a Christmas decoration with its red, green, and yellow tip of brilliance among the deep green foliage with the sharp spines that trim the leaves. We have so much colour at present with reds, yellows, burgundy and the green leaves trimmed with cream or pink, they may also be banded or speckled. The Aechmea nudicaulis should be in flower for several weeks and in full bloom for Christmas. Two years ago I built the form of a tree from 100mm PVC pipe and fittings, to form a trunk and several limbs, each limb was the holder for a plant. Last summer we only were gifted with two flowers, but this year we have many flowers to decorate our Bromeliad Christmas tree. This Aechmea species is one of the most widespread bromeliads in the Americas, found in almost every region, usually as an epiphyte, which made it perfect for our Christmas tree. This tough tubular plant with prominent spines bordering mottled green leaves, produces a cylindrical upright, fire-engine red and yellow flower spike present in mid-to late summer. The yellow spikes turn from yellow to a pale shade of greenish yellow, while the red envelope retains its striking red.

This plant can take relatively harsh conditions, and doesn’t have much root system when grown in soil, so is best grown as an epiphyte or over rocks, and looks spectacular when fashioned into Christmas trees. This species grows happily in a tree, a stump or a post and when the plants are placed strategically it gives the appearance of a decorated Christmas tree, with the red flowers and the yellow spikes to resemble Christmas lights. The sharp red and yellow inflorescence of the more widely grown forms never fails to attract attention from late spring to midsummer. You will enjoy the year round contribution this species will provide in your garden. Following the meeting, devoted mostly to the forthcoming Christmas party, we toured the garden, with Trish's flowers vying for attention beside Gary's huge vegetable garden. Then Gary heated up the 'barbie' and Trish presented us with a great array of home grown vegetables to go with the meat and Nessie's home baked bread. President John Innes thanked the hosts and also complimented members on the fine array of flowers on the competition table, considering the heat and lack of rain. Gymnostoma australianum With Christmas just around the corner how would you like to have a rare living fossil in your lounge room, patio or backyard? A plant whose ancestors would have seen the passing of the dinosaurs and the formation of our Great Southern land. Fossil records show the Daintree Pine has been around approximately 50 million years since the time of Gondwana. Today it is found in only a handful of small sites in the World Heritage listed Daintree National Park of FNQ. The Daintree Pine is not actually a pine at all but a primitive member of the Casuarina family. The female flowers are red to pink and they are followed by fruits resembling Casuarina cones. It is a very attractive bushy plant which maintains a lovely conical shape that provides great habitat for small nesting birds. This is Australiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s answer to a Christmas tree and it grows beautifully here in SE QLD. It grows approximately 3 to 6m high x 2m wide and prefers full sun to semi shade in a well drained situation. It makes a wonderful pot specimen for many years. It’s OK to question

I’m sure you’ve observed how new parents are always so eager and anxious for their babies to learn to talk. They cajole and coo and coax them to get out those first precious words, but inevitably, the next thing they know, they're being grilled by junior who’s discovered the allimportant ‘why?’ question. There are the science questions — ‘why is the sky blue?’ ‘Why does the wind blow?’ ‘Why is water wet?’ There are the personal questions — ‘why do I have to go to bed?’ ‘Why do I have to eat my vegetables?’ ‘Why do I have to wear a jumper?’ There are relational questions — ‘why are you crying?’ ‘Why did Grandpa or Grandma die?’ Even when a long litany of ‘why?’ questions get tedious, good parents know they need to keep answering. Children learn from asking questions. But it isn’t so much the answer to their inquiry that they’re learning. What children are really learning with these first ‘why?’ questions is to turn to the ones who love them the most, who care for them as family, for an expression of love. Questions keep parent and child engaged in an on-going, living, growing relationship. A truly worthy question generates a whole new batch of questions — and reveals some old answers. Of the 183 questions asked of Jesus in the gospels he only directly ‘answers’ three — the first about paying taxes, the second about the resurrection, and this third one about what is the greatest or ‘first’ commandment. Isn’t it liberating to know that Jesus didn’t feel the need to answer every question he was asked? Yet each one of his seemingly ‘straight forward’ answers hold the fodder for future questions. relationship alive and a question mark may just be Jesus’ biggest mark of discipleship. Having recently commemorated Remembrance Day I am sure many of us will have questions of Jesus. Why do we not have peace in our time? Why do you allow good and innocent young people to die? And that’s perfectly ok, it’s ok to question. Jesus was a master questioner. In the gospels while he directly answers only three of 183 questions posed to him, he asks 340 more questions of his inquirers. Jesus was not afraid of questions, yet Jesus was not overly concerned with answers either. Jesus knew HE was the answer, and that all the questions he asked, all the answers he gave, were part of the conversation that put him in relationship with all the people who came to him with inquiries. To be God’s child is to ask questions. The question mark may just be one of the greatest marks of Christian discipleship.

Glasshouse Country Bowls Club Contributed by Dennis Hume After eight weeks of fun and frivolity, local tradies and business people completed the Spring Business Bowls Competition at Glass House Country Bowls Club. The winning team was the Ray White Real Estate team made up of Lyn Standring, Brett Standring and Andrew Dobbie. The Summer Business Bowls Competition commences on February the 6. Nominations are being accepted now and are filling fast. Such is the enjoyment of those who take part. Contributed by Vicki Beutel In September members of our club attended the Queensland State BMX titles in Cairns from September 24 to 30. It was an awesome week and our members stepped up to the plate and advanced in the placing from last year. The track at Cairns was a very technical track, which made it difficult for most riders. There was a bit of carnage all round with some riders from other clubs taken off to hospital. Unfortunately Jenna Williams became one of these statistics and much to her dismay and ours was unable to compete, it was disappointing as Jenna had a good chance of bringing home a State Title Plate. Also Danny Yujnovich suffered injuries and joined Jenna on the sidelines, hence another opportunity lost for a plate. Ben Spratt and David Hume made it to the Semi finals but were involved in crashes on the track and missed out, but a great effort for them both as we know they had a good chance of getting into the finals and perhaps scoring one of the State plates. David Hume did go on to win a State plate in the Cruiser motos. Anyone in BMX knows you can be in the lead but it only takes another rider to make a mistake and sometimes you pay, that is the nature of the sport. Division 1 was well won by Val Turner who came in with a Nett score of 69. Runner up was Sue Williamson, also with a 69 Nett, who lost on the dreaded countback. Sue had her radar tuned in on the 18th where she took out the NTP with a chip in birdie. Janelle Balfe took out Division 2 with a score of 72 Nett, followed by our prize donor Lorraine, also on 72 Nett. In the last season which finished before the school holidays we had three teams that made it to the finals but unfortunately they were beaten. All of our five teams had an enjoyable season and are now in full swing in the current season. The junior Christmas break-up is coming up on Sunday, November 25 from 3.00pm for a sausage sizzle, games and the kid’s most popular game of water bombing their coach. Please come along and bring a plate to help with the catering. Adults The Monday night competition finished on November 12, with the finals starting on November 19. We had three teams in the Spring competition and only one is going to contest the finals. Congratulations to the Mystics from Division 3 for coming third in their division. Good luck in the finals. Our AGM I wish to advise all members and interested parties to attend our AGM on Sunday, November 25 at the Glenview Mooloolah Tennis clubhouse from around 3.00pm. There will be a sausage sizzle and social tennis on offer after the meeting. Our main topic to discuss at this meeting is the importance of resurfacing all of our three courts before the commencement of competition in February next year. The Committee needs the support and input from its members to achieve this. Another project for the coming year is to upgrade our lighting. Over the past few years we have had trouble with the lights not working due to their age and the continued wet weather we have experienced.
